Horrible customer service experience. The two employees working at the front desks at gates C3 and C8 were extremely rude and unprofessional. Our flight had already been delayed for approximately two hours, and we were simply trying to find out which gate we were being moved to. When we asked the employee at C8 for information, his response was, "You can wait in line and find out," and he said it with a dismissive attitude. What made the situation even more frustrating is that we paid for First Class tickets. I understand that flight delays happen and may be outside the employees' control, but basic courtesy and professionalism are not. We weren't asking for special treatment--we were simply asking for information about our flight. For the amount passengers pay, especially for First Class, I expected a much higher level of customer service. The way we were spoken to at both C3 and C8 was completely unacceptable and made an already frustrating delay significantly worse. read more

I paid $4,000.00 dollars for 2 Direct first class tickets back in March 2026 the night before the flight July 2026 I know you do I get a notice that my flight was cancelled due to weather then I get email with new flight information we had to be at the airport earlier for a new flight with a layout . Forgot to mention that I have a handicapped husband who can't use his hands and has a prosthetic leg. When traveling with him I get first class so we can sit together and I'm able to feed him and help him be comfortable anyway our 4 hour flight turned into a 6 hour flight with me in a middle seat 2 aisles behind him and he was sitting in a middle seat two aisles in front of me so I couldn't help him couldn't feed him so for 4 1/2 hours he sat without moving with two large people on either side of him, and he was afraid that he would hurt somebody with his prosthetic leg. Forgot to mention that I explained the situation to at check in and was told they couldn't help me but I needed to explain at the check in counter they would help us WRONG they wouldn't help us at all. Told us it's a full flight and they couldn't get any one to move for us. Coming back I got another notification that we were flying economy home luckily it was at least a direct flight, but it took me four hours to get our reservations correct and put us back into the first class like we were supposed to be and get our food ordered. Well we got into first class, not in the seats that we had asked for but we did get first class, but for some reason we didn't get any food so now he's sitting on a plane for four hours with no food. His monitor is going off. They don't seem to care I will give you a snack again not happy filled out all the proper paperwork today. Get a notice from them saying they're going to give us each $150 voucher for us to use on a going forward on another trip with them. What the hell is $150 gonna do for somebody you can't even buy a ticket anywhere a one-way ticket beware when traveling with United because I've talked to people they don't want to even help me so I am putting a grievance in to United Airlines to get some of my money back because this is ridiculous had to put a one star just to be able to put this review into Yelp, which is absolutely ridiculous because believe me I don't wanna give them any kind of stars read more

My check in went smoothly although the Gate agent kind of overloaded her announcements with too much information that I know she's just doing her job and the online check-in simplified process, though I was surprised that I needed a letter from the company. The good: Great customer service by staff, both on the ground and in the air! Special kudos to Kimberly at United gate B12 in Salt Lake City on Sept 13 2024 at 6am for her understanding, patience, explanations, and all-around positive attitude. The not-so-good: We were delayed twice during our trip. First, a tire had to be changed, then per policy a second tire had to be changed. I'm glad they found the problem while the plane was still on the ground, but to my layman's mind it seems it could have been faster to change the tire after all the passengers deplaned. Perhaps they could get training from a Nascar pit crew? Just kidding - I'd rather be safe than take a chance and I'm glad they caught the problem and fixed it. The second delay was on our return trip when another maintenance issue was discovered. Again, I'm glad they caught it, but I wondered why they hadn't caught it sooner as this was the first flight of the day and the plane had been in a hangar all night - seems like it would have been inspected when it first went into the hangar. read more

4/1/26 United wouldn't let my daughter bored her plane cause she had a few drinks and told her to wait for the next flight in 3 hours. So she ate and slept right by the gate then when the second plane was boarding 3 hours later after she just woke up they told her they weren't letting her on cause they can still smell alcohol they saw her sleeping for 3 hours while she waited. She was so upset crying so she went and bought another ticket at southwest and boarded just fine. Not knowing her carryon bag was in La since Reno had her check it in. Now 4/2 she's finally in Hawaii looking for her bag and they said it's still in La and they were cancelling her flight. Bunch of bullshit she needs to contact a lawyer because that's not ok. This airline is garbage they killed a puppy in 2017 when they wouldn't let the owners keep it under the seat and made them put it above the luggage the family could hear the puppy crying and they wouldn't let them check on it. When the plane finally landed the puppy was dead couldn't breathe. They need to be held accountable for how they treat there customers and living things. read more

We had a trip to Taipei with various COVID related requirements to fullfill in the Travel Ready Center on UA's website. All required someone to look at documents we uploaded into the Travel ready Center within the 24 hours before flight time window, test results; contact info, places we will stay in Taipei etc. RNO to SFO was easy and we got boarding passes. SFO to TPE stood at "under review" status overnight. If it didn't get approved, we would have to collect checked luggage then take them to check-in again at SFO. The ground agent at the RNO Premier line saved the day, got us approved and checked bags all the way to TPE. She was a great help. Now we can stay in air side at SFO. read more

Please if you want to have a hassle-free travel do yourself a favor and DO NOT book through United. Their customer service is terrible. They are rude and don't know more than you do despite the fact they work there. We bought airfare through Expedia. We had an error that it was not confirming our reservation so I called United and they told me to cancel that reservation and make a new one through them which I did. We received confirmation on our flights. A week before we were supposed to leave United sends an email that there is an issue with our reservation. It was never "ticketed" so we had no reservations for six people to travel from the West Coast to the East Coast. They didn't offer any sort of assistance nor were they willing to work with us on the ticket prices, despite us already having a reservation. We will never fly with them again. We also will make sure anyone we care about doesn't either so they can avoid the hassle, stress and disrespect. read more

Notified at midnight, while sleeping so as to get up at 3 am for 6:30 am flight, that our Reno flight delayed. So we miss our Japan connection! We're booked on new flights and don't arrive in Japan until 6 AM Saturday, not 2pm Friday. We miss our tour and forfeit $500 tour fee and have no place to stay Saturday night because the hotel is booked with all of our other convention attendees. Now our trip looks like: 10:45 am to SFO arrives 11:45am SFO, then to Hong Kong that Departs 1:30pm Thursday and arrives 6:45 pm Friday in Hong Kong Leave 1:05am Hong Kong that arrives Haneda 6:05am Saturday. With customs, travel to Hotel, we miss our 7am Mt Fuji tour. Only been planning this trip for 2 years and this is the best United can do? Shameful to say the least. This is our second trip since the beginning of Covid-19. It is always exciting to board a flight, and after a long time of traveling once a week, having three months gap between flights makes it surreal. The process to board the flight is a bit different. Instead of boarding by groups, you board based on your row. So much for my first class ticket! I was last to board. When you enter the plane the flight attendant hands you a sanitizing wipe (to clean you seat and your hands). Everyone has to wear a mask and the food is limited to pre-packed snack (again, so much for first class!). Overall, flying became functional and not a luxury, and #Unitedairlines does its back to accommodate its passengers. read more

I had a flight get delayed (until the next day) and there was absolutely no communication about the status of the new flight, there was a fee associated with my hotel accommodation, and the departure board was never updated. The next day united phone reps or in-person reps have no idea about what's going on and there are ZERO representatives at any gate to provide clarity. If my business didn't favor united so much I would never fly again. Bonus: the seats felt cheap and uncomfortable. UPDATE: I had my flight switched to another airline after I was told (by several people) my flight left on time the night before and that the next flight would be at 7:40 pm. I would rather not spend 14 hours in Reno airport. I've used the United Airlines service from Reno to San Francisco a short commuter hopper flight. It is only 30 minutes flight with no inflight entertainment but water is served. Check in was fast and easy and because it is a very small plane, your standard size carry aboard luggage will be gate checked. I did not know this on my flight over and because I was in a time crunch I try to fit my standard size 22 inch carry on under my seat in front of me. It did go in with some effort but was not completely stowed maybe only about 70%. The limited leg room made for a tight squeeze but it was only a 30 minute flight so no problem. read more

The GOOD: This was for a business trip to ORD where someone else was paying for my plane ticket. I had no choice than to go on the airline they booked for me, otherwise I'd stick with either AA (where I hoard the majority of my frequent flyer miles) or Southwest if it's a short local hop. Ugh. So United, you're not my airline of choice, but you were my ride, so I just hung on for dear life. THE BAD: Well, I'm barely 5'3" and the seat I was on was SO uncomfortable. I can't imagine how taller people deal with having their knees jammed up to their eyeballs. Once the tray table is down, pray that the person sitting in front of you doesn't decide to recline his seat all the way back or you're pretty much going to find yourself staring just inches away from the back of the seat. Overall, the Reno operation is OK. The people here were friendly and helpful. The boarding area is relatively comfortable and there are seats with outlets for electronics. The only downside from our most recent trips was there were problems with the breaks on our plane that came in from SanFrancisco. We had to wait for them to get a part which then made us too late to make our connection in Denver. On the plus side, United did a very good job of getting us rebooked on another flight. United's prices out of Reno were competitive with the other "legacy" airlines and their routes to where we wanted to go were more convenient. To us, it was definitely with the extra cost to fly First Class - Premier check in and boarding, free bag check, TSA rapid check in, comfy seats, free food and drink, and attentive service. Baggage return is a little slow, but that seems pretty typical of all the airlines in Reno. read more

One of the main problems with United is that they're the only airline who actually flies into rural Oregon, albeit on SkyWest planes. As a result, flights out of Reno are higher than a kite - especially if you're connecting in San Francisco. United also has a monopoly on the SF - Reno route. As a result, they charge high prices for that convenience of not dealing with going over the Sierras or Sacramento / Bay Area traffic. I can also say that none of my SF flights have been on time - they're always tardy. Connections in and out of Denver are tolerable - same with Chicago O'Hare; however, SF has a nice airport, but terrible connections. Again, always late - and United wants you there early. read more

Our flight from Maui arrived at LAX only to have our connecting flight delayed due to pilot not showing up to work. So we're stuck at the airport with no hotel rooms available and $30 food vouchers. We had to wait till 935am the following morning to get on a plane with a pilot and co pilot however they didn't have fuel to we had to wait for that. When we arrived at Reno our bags were delayed and my wife's flight from maui was delayed 12 hours which would defeat the entire purpose of our travel to Reno for a short trip. Just used United on an overseas flight from Reno to Vietnam. United has a lot of sister companies that are very excellent such as Swiss Air and Lufthansa. The flight from Reno to San Francisco was pretty much the standard flight service that you expect domestically. The United Flight from San Francisco to Tokyo had superb service but the seats were uncomfortable compared to their Star Alliance partner Lufthansa. I did enjoy the complimentary beer and the food was decent that was served. We then boarded ANA, another star alliance partner with United. The flight attendants were so lovely and kind. The plane was really outdated, really needed to be retrofitted. The positive points were the Japanese meal, which was pretty good, the complimentary alcoholic beverages and only on ANA can you get a drink called Kabuso with honey. If you are on ANA ask them for a glass of this and vodka. A new drink I devised on my 10 plus hours across the Pacific! If I could get my hands on it here, it would be the latest rage in Reno! Lol. On our return, as stated by other passengers our flight was delayed and changed, so I had to endure spending 7 hours hanging out at SFO. Jet lag mixed in with uncomfortable seats in the airport was no fun. If you fly to Japan, I would recommend taking JAL air instead. Much nicer airlines and more comfort. read more

United Airlines Just Does Not Care! My flight from Salt Lake City was supposed to have a short layover in Denver and then land in Reno at 5:30 PM. At the gate, I was told that my flight was delayed. The estimated arrival time in Denver was now going to get me there just minutes before my connecting flight was scheduled to leave. I asked the representative if there were another flight I could take that would get me there sooner. He seemed annoyed that I was bothering him and while I was waiting for his answer, he took two phone calls and spent at least 5 minutes small talking with a female employee. After 10 minutes, he told me: "There's another flight that will get you there by 11:30 PM. If that doesn't work for you, you can come back tomorrow and try again." I explained to him that I had to make it to Reno tonight as I had roughly four hours worth of extremely urgent work that I had to do there that night. He responded very un-apologetically, once again stating that there were no other options. Later they told us it was being delayed even longer; the new expected arrival time to Denver was 10 minutes after my connecting flight was scheduled to leave. In my vast experience flying with Southwest Airlines, I have seen them bend over backwards to help people who they have inconvenienced due to a late or canceled flight. Multiple times over the years a Southwest Airlines flight I have been on has waited an extra 5-10 minutes before taking off in order to allow passengers from another flight make the connection. I asked the United Airlines agent if he had any way to contact that flight to see if it were a possibility. He was offended that I had asked and told me he couldn't. About 15 minutes later, I heard an announcement for a nearby gate stating that the United Airlines flight there was going to Denver also, and it was now boarding! I immediately ran to that gate and found that it was expected to arrive soon enough that I should be able to make my connection. The plane landed in Denver ten minutes before my connecting flight was scheduled to leave. When I have flown with Southwest Airlines and a flight had been running late, or when passengers on that flight had close connections, the flight crew would announce the gate numbers for them over the intercom and allow those passengers to exit the plane first. United Airlines does neither of these things. There were several people near me on the plane who were in similar situations and one of them asked the flight attendant which gate she had to go to as our boarding passes didn't show a gate number. The attendant, just said: "You will have to check the monitors once you deplane." Once again, no effort to be even a little friendly or helpful. By the time I got off and literally ran to to the monitor showing departures, it was two minutes until the time my flight was suppose to leave. I quickly found Reno on the list, but the next flight it was showing wasn't leaving for hours. I frantically looked for an agent but there was no-one in sight! I spent 5 minutes running around the terminal before I finally found a gate that had a person behind the counter. He ignored the boarding pass I was trying to hand him and acting very annoyed and put upon asked me in a very belittling tone of voice if I had checked the monitor. He finally took my boarding pass, looked it up and told me that the plane had just barely left. I got to the so called "Customer Service" area mad as hell. The unsmiling people there looked at me with disdain and didn't once try to calm me down or apologize to me. The lady who looked my flight up just snapped at me that the flight already left and that I should have planned better!!! "Didn't you look at the monitor?" she demanded of me. I angrily told them that I couldn't believe how un-coordinated United Airlines was. They got me there in time to catch my flight only to let me miss it because of their inability and lack of desire to do a little bit extra to help people. The woman angrily snapped back at me that there was absolutely nothing they could have done. I pointed out to her that I only missed my flight by two minutes or so and that they knew I had just landed. She rudely told me that they couldn't make a flight wait, not even for two minutes. I got absolutely no apology, no sympathy, and was treated as if the entire thing were my fault. I will now have to wait in Denver for five hours and won't make it to Reno until 11:40 PM! Due to United Airlines' lack of service, I find myself sitting here at the Denver airport with hours to kill and nothing better to do than share my story so that hopefully others out there will read it and save themselves the horror of having to ever deal with United Airlines. I am not upset with United Airlines for having flight delays;I am furious with them for the way they treat their customers. They were angry at ME for being upset at them for being incompetent! If I could give negative stars I would. I'll never fly United again. My flight was at 1250pm. I got to the airport at 11:00am. It was not until near 1250pm that they started to announce that our plane wasn't even at the gate and that it was still in San Fransisco. They promised that it would be in by 2:00pm. 2pm passed by and the plane finally arrived at 2:30pm. After all the people deboarded and the luggage was taken off the plane. By the time we lifted off it was already 3pm. Everyone on this flight out of Reno was connecting somewhere in SFO. Our flight was at 4:05pm. I felt bad for some people who were connecting to far away places like Frankfurt or Boston. They all missed their flights. Everyone, including myself asked the flight attendant if they would have our connecting flights wait for us since we were only a couple minutes late from the end of boarding time. She shrugged her shoulders, lifted her hands in the air and said "I don't know." After other people asked her the same question she got snippy and said it wasn't her job and to ask the gate agent later. It turns out they did hold our particular flight and they were waiting for us. Thanks b*tch! As the captain said we were descending into SFO, it was already 3:45pm. I thought we could make our flight. But instead we circled the SFO area 2 times...and once we landed, we were on the tarmac for 20 more minutes because they couldn't get an open gate. Then once we found a gate, they couldn't operate the ramp right and get it close to the plane door. I can't see how this company is still in business. Never on time, and rude service. I'd rather fly American Airlines for a domestic carrier. Ridiculous! read more

Flying out of reno we don't get many choices. However, this is the worst of the pack. They constantly overbook their flights. The new airplanes they have have the smallest seats and leg room of any. I am a small short woman and normally have no trouble getting comfortable in airlline seat. I was cramped in their new planes. They also have the worst customer service of the industry. Their online system is terrible so you have to call and they cheap out on their phone systems which takes literally hours to do a small task due to their crappy phone reception and long wait times and they will charge you to for calling. Even if I have to $30 more, is it worth being in a space a child feels cramped in and treated terribly? Try southwest (free checked bags and no charges for flight changes!), usairways, and even delta do a better job. read more

It's unfortunate that I have to write this. It's been a disappointment using United Airlines for our (me, my wife and my 6year old son) round trip flight from Reno to Lihue with stop in SFO. The flight from SFO to LIH had a 2h 30min DELAY (flight UA1111). Then the flight back from LIH to SFO another 2h 30min DELAY plus the in-flight entertainment system did not work at all during the flight (flight UA1152). We land in SFO only to find out that the connecting flight to Reno had a 2h DELAY as well (FLIGHT UA5918). THREE FLIGHTS OUT OF FOUR HAD MORE THAN 2H DELAY. We paid three airfares to United expecting in exchange that United will honor its advertised flight times and get us on time to our destination and back. Obviously that DID NOT HAPPEN. I don't see what United could do at this point to win our business again in the future. The delays have not only impacted our vacation plans but also brought into question the safety of the aircrafts since delays were due to mechanical issues. read more

I do not normally write reviews of nationwide companies but I need to vent about the way this airline screws its customers. There is a reason Southwest Airlines is the most profitable airline flying and it is the poor customer service of airlines like United. Long story short, my Mom passed away in August and I had to book the next flight out of Reno up to Montana to take care of her arrangements etc. We bought the only tickets available which it turns out were nonrefundable (even though they cost twice as much as a regular ticket, over 700 bucks each). I ended up not using the return portion because I drove back to Reno. The airline said no problem when we called to ask about this and said I had a year to use the credit. Fast forward to a few weeks later when I tried to use the credit to book a flight from Reno back up to Montana (same flight as before, just opposite direction. Same number of miles, etc). Get this, you can only use the ticket to fly the exact same direction and flight you originally booked. You cannot apply the credit toward another flight (even if it is the same route, different direction). You cannot pay the change fee. You cannot transfer it. You are just s#$@ out of luck, and your money. I am not one to expect special treatment, even under the sucky circumstances which required me to make this trip. I just want to be fairly treated and not screwed out of my money during a time when I am vulnerable. I have literally traveled around the world on United the past ten years for work. Not again. I am done with this airline. They get to keep a couple hundred bucks of my money for doing nothing. But I will laugh when it goes belly up because it is a dinosaur whose customer service and polices are way behind what is the new norm. read more

How is that I fly planes to Boston from NY which is less than an hour and I have a plug, but on the 5 hour flight to San Fran - no plugs? You know that route is full of business travelers, so why why why fly an airplane with no plugs? The flight attendants are awesome, almost always - but the counter people suck almost half the time. Many airlines are better than UA. But mostly what ticks us off, is that our points expire, which only causes us Not to stay loyal to this Airline. Also did not enjoy the extra luggage fees. --Jer read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Our flight was cancelled and it took FOREVER for them to rebook a flight. We ended up losing an entire day in Hawaii because of it. Their staff was extremely rude, especially an employee named Brenna. When I asked for her last name she replied "Brenna is all you need to know" (so I snapped her picture instead and will forward it to United Corporate along with all the other problems we encountered). They also damaged two of our suitcases. I definitely won't fly this airline again anytime soon, they need to get their stuff together. On a positive note, when we were rebooked, we ended up taking two Alaska Airlines flights and those were wonderful. Their staff was such a breath of fresh air compared to United. Alaska will get my business in the future. read more
