The new assigned seating is in effect. Some have said it is worse than before, but having an assigned seat is far easier than wandering the aisle hoping for an aisle or window seat. It also seems to have sped up loading times. The queue prosses is about the same as before. Instead of lining up next to posts with number on them, there are boarding groups 1-6 that will be called out. The main adavantage I can see with having an earlier boarding is making sure you can get a spot for your carry-on. I have been in boarding groups 3-6 on various flights and I always found an overhead spot. There have been a couple flights I was on that were not full, but some rows were empty while middle seats were filled. The flight attendants were strict about staying in your assigned seat even if there were empty rows. On another flight two weeks later there was an empty row in the back, and the flight attendant shuffled a few people around to free up some middle seats. Maybe they are relaxing a little bit about assigned seating if there are empty ones. Loading went about as smooth as it did before the assigned seating went into effect. Service is still great and friendly, flights left and arrive on time, and I will continue to fly with Southwest. read more

For years I've only flown with southwest because of their free 2 bag policy, their customer service and their cancellation policy. They usually are always on time unless there is outrageous weather conditions which we have experienced once with flying with them. They give you a complimentary snack and drink if your flight is over an hour. They also offer WiFi options and ways to watch tv. Their bathrooms although small because it is an aircraft, are usually pretty clean. My one complaint as a loyal flyer with southwest is that they changed their bag policy. That was one thing that stood out about southwest from the others and I hope they bring it back. For the most part, they offer flights to a lot of places compared to most airlines. Please bring the old bag policy of two free checked bags! read more

I LOVE SWA!! I am too afraid to try other carriers for quick trips (you know, like Spirit and Frontier.. lol). The staff is always super nice, and on some flights, they're hilarious! I have had a few flights delayed, but I can't think of a horrible situation that was THAT bad. Ebony was super rude and even ended up ignoring us then threatening to call the cops on us? She gave us conflicting information from another worker, she started yelling at other customers for no reason. She didn't even give us the supervisor last name or allow us to talk with them? Extremely unprofessional and rude I won't be flying Southwest Airlines for Reno again. Called customer service and phone representative told us one thing, employee from southwest who was off work also agreed. Then ebony told us conflicting information and was unprofessional about it only to later find out our original info was correct and she had ignored us and threatened us for no reason. Generally, I like Southwest Airlines and I've flown them many times but the new charges for a checked bag is annoying. It was one of the nicest things about Southwest, not having to pay extra. It's 35 bucks for one bag and then the kiosk was a little balky when checked in. I had to go to a second one and wouldn't let me scan my credit card to pay for that bag and get a receipt so that it was annoying but otherwise the Gate agents are pleasant. Was one of first several passengers to board. Carried nothing but a single bag; one bag that meets UNDER seat standards, which has been easily placed under airline seats at least 20+ times before. I had upgraded my standard seat to a $59 "more legroom" seat in the aisle (2D). However, couldn't place bag under upgraded $59 "more legroom" seat because there was a bar in the middle of my under seat storage area while the passenger's area next to me had a full area plus a portion of my area without a bar. Not only that, I didn't have "more legroom" since I had to keep legs confined to a tiny area, or separated and couldn't move legs freely. Bag had to go to overhead storage: The flight attendant was rude and hateful to me, indicating I didn't need anything from my bag during the flight when I told her that if I didn't have my underseat bag accessible under the seat, I would need some things from it. She had an attitude and told me to STAND in my seat row while I was getting personal items (water, phone, etc) out of bag before it had to be placed in overhead. Suddenly, I was bashed on the head by the storage compartment door when she forcefully opened it with latch behind me to adjust or put someone else's bag in. This flight experience was bad in several ways. Southwest is the only airline that flies nonstop between these cities so I'll probably fly them again, but I will never pay extra for a Southwest "more legroom" seat again. First, I have to say that I have no choice but to fly Southwest Airlines on certain trips. On my trip from Reno, NV to Las Vegas, NV they stepped it up a bit on destroying my luggage. Rips, broken zippers, and dirty are a few of the things they do to our luggage. They are the worst. I do fly other airlines like Delta when I can, and they NEVER treat our luggage this bad. 1.3.24: Returning home after spending the holiday in my soon to be home of Idaho. Normally, you feel some turbulence flying into Reno, but tonight it went pretty smoothly. During my flight there and back, I had no issues and was able to get beverage service on each flight. Due to turbulence, there have been many times beverage service has been cancelled but of course, it's not Southwest's fault. My favorite airline to fly with is Southwest only because of the 2 bags fly free and have found it's the most cost effective way for me to travel. The majority of times, staff and flight attendants are nice and helpful. I've even had some flight attendants honor an expired drink coupon after explaining beverage service was cancelled on my last flight because of turbulence. That's really cool of them and definitely not expected. Overall, from the check-in process, to in-flight service, and collecting of luggage--I'm pretty satisfied with Southwest Airlines. read more

The first leg of the flight to Denver, went well. The flight and baggage check-in attendant was friendly and professional. We had some questions about boarding and he was able to answer them to our satisfaction. The flight attendants were friendly and attentive. We had a 2 hour layover. We ended up being delayed a little longer, due to de-icing the plane. It didn't snow a lot, but enough to need de-icing. The landing in Tampa was smooth. We claimed our luggage pretty quickly. First of all, I've been flying Southwest for over 30 years. They've always delivered a good product, on time, good crews, value priced. I just flew them twice in the past 2 weeks since they made changes this new investment firm is directing Southwest. The flight attendant had an attitude being rude to travelers which I've never seen before. Most of the passengers were sitting in the rear, the front 40% of the seating was mostly open. The FA must have told us a half dozen times you cannot move into any of the open areas. Southwest has/had a loyal customer, not easy to do these days in this industry. We flew southwest RNO-LAX, and it was a pretty good option for such a short flight. We used our points to purchase this ticket, so it ended up being pretty cheap as well. I would fly southwest again for these short non-stop flights; however, I wouldn't for cross country. Their seats are definitely getting harder than other airlines. We flew on one of their new B737-800 MAX models with their new seats, and it significantly has less cushion than other major US airlines. I was feeling uncomfortable on my 1hour flight, I couldn't imagine a 3 or 4 hour flight. Also, when I checked in for my flight, they already delayed it--24 hours in advance! And as the time to depart got closer and closer, they would delay it, then un-delay the flight over and over again (kinda weird). I looked on a flight tracker and my 2 pm flight had 5 earlier flights the same day as me, a lot of things could've have caused it to get delayed, and Southwest was trying their best to predict it, but couldn't crack the code. This would make me nervous, especially if I had a short layover in LAX. Service on board the flight was great. Our flight attendants were hilarious and were able to quickly pass out our food and drinks before we had to prepare for landing. Super efficient for a one hour flight! read more

We flew Southwest Airlines during Memorial Day weekend. The flight from Reno to Las Vegas to Burbank was unremarkable but the crew was really awesome. Burbank airport is great because you can disembark from the rear. The flight from Burbank to Reno was cool because it was non-stop but the flight attendants were a bit curt and humorless; they acted very put upon when handing out snacks and drinks, and collecting the refuse. The plane has the bare minimum seating space; no leg room to speak of and everyone was crammed liked sardines. The ac even out while we were waiting in Vegas and sat there gagging on jet fuel fumes while we sat trapped in 80 degree weather. Overall, the flight was good; I liked the fact that they served cranberry juice because I don't drink alcohol nor soda but the service could be better; oh well, you get what you pay for. We HATE this airline. The website is frequently unresponsive. The checkout process is confusing - we tried to use our credits and apparently they did not apply them even though it appeared that they did. When we called for help they refused to apply our credits. They do not care if you fly with them ever again - they have zero concern for you as a customer, as we discovered in our case. One of the passengers on my account had a last name change after the boarding passes were purchased (adoption was finalized) and my passenger was of course excited to change their name on their divers license. Before flying out, I called Southwest to make sure we follow the right steps and what to bring when we fly out to update the boarding pass (proof of name change and 2 ids). We come to the check in counter and the first issue is the woman is texting on her Apple Watch and seemed annoyed we were interrupting whatever personal conversation she had going on. We explain the situation and she flat out says that she can't do that. I explained that I called Southwest in advance and was told that it was possible and we brought everything needed. She refused to look at it and kept saying "the person you spoke to doesn't work in an airport" She told us to basically lie to TSA and give them their old id, when we got to TSA we didn't do that and explained what the Southwest service agent said, the TSA agent was frustrated and said that she could have changed the name and dumped the issues on them. We thankfully were let through. After landing in LA, we went to the Southwest desk there and had absolutely no issue updating the boarding pass for the return trip and the agent in LA was surprised that Reno Southwest gave us such a hard time and we should have asked for her supervisor to get the problem resolved, hindsight we should have but traveling is stressful as it is, we just went with the false information the Reno Southwest agent told us to do. For anyone trying to update a name on a boarding pass at Reno Southwest, yes it's possible and ask for a supervisor when that woman tells you no. read more

Because of the covid and recent family tragedy, I was about to lose a couple of hundred bucks of travel funds from an unused tickets. Traveling to Vegas, then Chicago. Got to the airport and my gate. A flight to Vegas was boarding so I went up to the desk to see if there were any seats available and when I got to Vegas perhaps I could get an earlier flight to Chicago. I was told I could get on the plane for $289 up charge but my suitcase would be on the original flight. I declined but thought, outside of the checked baggage issue, that this was bad business. Your pilot couldn't fly because he had to many hours, so we were made to leave the tarmac and go back to the gate. If you need to talk to someone, you wait on the phone for 35-45 minutes, time and time again. The recording keeps apologizing for the delay but it's obvious that if this company gave a damn about its customers, they'd hire more people to answer their phones. Obviously our calls are not important to them. Their modus operandi is to keep you holding until you get disgusted and hang up. As to service at the check-in counter, same thing. My wife waited on line today 40+ minutes with only 3 people ahead of her. By the time they got to her, she missed her flight, despite being told by several of the people on line that they needed to catch flights. Of course, they're too cheap to hire more people. They had only 2 people working the counter in the afternoon in the middle of the week. I thought Frontier was bad (It is.), but SWA cares as little for its customers as Frontier. How sad. Normally have a good experience with Southwest. However, over the Christmas weekend in 2022, they kept delaying the flight from Reno to LA. Ultimately kept delaying until finally cancelling. They didn't send any update to customers and just sent a flight credit. The delay and cancellation is not worth a flight credit, but needs to be fully refunded. Another airline was able to accommodate the destination without issue. Should not just randomly give a flight credit without regard to what the customer had to go through when the company is just saying that the flight is delayed for over 10 hours. Terrible experience in how the situation was handled. I normally fly southwest, but will likely book another airline after this experience. This review was also written after trying to wait on hold for customer service for over 3 hours on the phone. Do not recommend this airline. Jetblue was reliable. read more

You know pretty much what to expect with Southwest I use their visa miles card all the time. So a recent trip to Florida for my hubby and me was $22 for both of us round trip. I like that you can go online and looks for flexible dates and prices. Usually I have several flights time options but not this time. O dark thirty was the only flight out of Reno. Printed boarding passes the day before. Checked in with up to two free bags each. The connection was flawless in Vegas as all we had to do was walk from B11 to B15. Then onto FLL On the return trip, we weren't near a computer so we tried checking in on iPhone and had the passes texted to us. I'm not real tech savvy- but wow that was cool and easy. Southwest cancelled our flight from LAX to Reno and then booked us on an earlier flight. Problem, we could not make our connection as we took a different airline home from Maui and had a 2. hour layover before needing to catch the LAX to Reno flight. After they cancelled original flight it was not possible to make the connection so we had to cancel and pay to fly home on a different flight after we had to pay for a hotel room in LAX. We paid $265 for flight, they gave us back $63. THEY CaNCELLED our original flight - not us. read more
