I have been coming here for years, whether for grooming, a fun treat/toy stop, or excellent food advice. Arlene is incredibly knowledgeable about quality dog foods and also what will work best with your dog's allergies. She truly cares about quality; no food/toy/any item in the store is from China. Her prices are very reasonable, making it easy to make the choice to shop local. Arlene's staff groomed my boy Bosco gently and without stress, even when he was close to crossing the rainbow bridge. He had that super thick husky coat and her staff were able to get it out and make him feel like a puppy again. Now she is grooming my boy Bowie who is crazy high energy and has significant separation anxiety. Bowie had some horrible experiences with crating before he came into my life and Arlene thoughtfully offers an express grooming service so he doesn't have to spend any time in the crate. To top all of it off, Arlene is also very community oriented and just a great person. She has supported our local movement to build the Truckee Dog Park and even hosted our Santa Paws event this past year (we'll be doing it again, don't worry)! Her son even passed out treats during the event (such a gentleman!). I started shopping at Spoiled Petz (formerly Scraps Dog Bakery) to support a local business; I go back because Arlene genuinely cares about my pup, is incredibly knowledgeable about healthy options and stands by that conviction with what she stocks in the store, is knowledgeable and accommodating of different personalities/fears/needs in grooming, is supportive of the community, and through the years has become a friend. read more

I live in incline Village, but make the trip to Truckee to use her exclusively for our beautiful golden retriever. He is so dog quality, and I have no problem with her working on Winston. I have changed my original review. Arlene got back to me as soon as she saw my review. Apparently the system had scheduled an appointment for us but the message failed to send. I was able to schedule an appointment directly (not using the automated system) and we were able to get our Golden in after the weekend. We have used Spoiled Petz for years for our dogs. We get our Golden Retrievers groomed twice a year, once for the winter and once in the spring. The last time we had the dogs groomed, the groomer was curt and rude, however, we had good luck in previous years and didn't hold a grudge. I called on Wednesday morning, November 27th to make an appointment and the recording stated that it would be faster to text for an appointment so I immediately did so. I thought that I might hear back from them in the evening but since Thursday was Thanksgiving, I figured they were all out for the holiday. However, it is not Friday evening and I still have not heard back. I hate to have to go to Reno but it looks like we will have to do this from now on. The groomers here in Truckee must all have all the clients they need because Spoiled Petz is not the only groomer who doesn't answer or return calls. read more

I've taken my dog here a couple times before... The last two times I've taken my dog here he has come home and gotten incredibly sick the same day and it has lasted a couple days. Gnarly diarrhea and a loss of appetite. He must have gotten exposed to something or eaten something while at their shop. Because both times it was the exact same symptoms and the same type of diarrhea. Also, the haircut they gave him this last time was super choppy and uneven. The haircut quality would have gotten 3 stars. But my dog getting socks gets the lowest score available. read more

Great grooming!! We were moving out of the Bay Area and our groomer got Covid so we were in a pickle because it had been way past our normal grooming timeframe. We have been coming here since they moved from the downtown location, to the very easy to get to west end location, across the street from Sears. We were having issues with our new 1 year old English Lab. She started having trouble staying regular and would have horrible episodes of watery stool. Arlene is very knowledgeable, and we ended up switching to a grain free. Molly no longer has stomach issues or bathroom issues. We had always thought that because it was a small, boutique looking store from the outside, that they wouldn't have much or they would be expensive, boy we were wrong. The food we buy is the same price as when we got it at Petco and Petsmart down in Reno. It is full of stuff, everything we need for our dog and our cat. Lots of goodies and cool treats too. We even took our dog to the self dog wash there. It is $15 but made washing her after a day out at the lake easy. It is actually like a dog spa, it includes everything you would need and you have choices of what kind of shampoo, sprays, ear drops brushes, combs, more stuff than I can remember. Something for every different kind of dog and includes a rolled up towel with dog bone on it....too cute! Molly always loves going there. She recognizes where we are as soon as we drive up. It is a must go to place for locals and visitors. read more

Scraps is such a great place for your 4 legged family member. Grooming is BY FAR the BEST in the area and they carry top of the line food, treats, and gear! I'm a local and have a 4lb Maltese, sadly she has been cut with the last 2 groomers (Pet Station is the worst! NOT HAPPY with how they dealt with my little girl like it was not their fault, it was hers.. WHAT? She isn't a Chihuahua, she is a timid little sweet pooch... I would hope I'm taking her to a caring pro).... :-(.. Broke my heart.. She limped for 3 weeks.. I was thrilled when I was referred to Kayla! She is a total sincere animal lover. You walk in for their spa experience and she caresses your pooch towards her heart. Pets their ears while talking to you about grooming details. My dogs went crazy with the dog treats I brought back from this store! Seriously they ran up to me and were just jumping like crazy to get them! I definitely recommend this place, they had a huge selection of treats to choose from and lots of dog toys, dog food and pretty much all the accessories you need for your dog. We took our Old English here for a trim and bath. We were very pleased with the results, particularly considering how tough it is to comb out an OES with it's double coat. He was done about three hours after dropping him off which is quite good. Prices are very reasonable, particularly compared to bay area prices - low enough to give the groomer a nice tip for excellent service. read more

We took our Maine Coon cat in for his first grooming (he is 9 years old...) because his fur was so matted there was no way we could brush them out. Monica was amazing! So skilled and patient. Oliver (the cat) was of course skittish about the whole thing, but he did great, thanks to Monica's expertise. We will definitely take him back in 6 months to keep the mats under control. We took our dog in for an appointment and 3 1/2 hours later he was still sitting in the crate. When we arrived to check to see if he were ready, we were told he would be 20 minutes. He had been there for all that time and nothing had been done. It was a total rush job and the end result was the proof! We will never recommend this grooming establishment again. read more

Unfortunately, the last 2 times I have brought my dogs to Scraps/Spoiled Petz my girlfriend and I have been BEYOND disappointed. This last time it literally brought my girlfriend to tears. Back in February we brought our two small dogs in to get groomed at 12pm. We called around 4pm to see if they were close to being ready and we were told that they were still being groomed. We didn't receive a call until after 6pm saying the dogs would ready in 25 minutes. The shop had already been closed for over an hour by the time I got there and when arriving at the front door I saw one of my pups running around the store with another dog. I waited for the groomer to come out to let me in and she let me know she was finishing up with my other dog. After waiting for 15 more minutes she brought my other dog out and he had only been bathed! I was then charged for TWO full grooms! Besides all of the above, we decided to give Scraps/Spoiled Petz another chance, as we like to support local businesses and our previous experiences prior to the last had been unremarkable. So, this Saturday we dropped our one dog off at the shop, as he still needed a haircut. My girlfriend let the woman on the phone know when booking the appointment that this would be the first time our dogs had been separated in 2 years and that our pup was a very timid rescue and wanted to make sure he would not be waiting to be groomed for hours. The woman on the phone said this would not be a problem. I dropped our pup off at 11:30am and was reassured that he would be ready within 3 hours. We received a call at 2pm saying our dog was ready to pick up. At 2:20pm we arrived at the shop. The young girl at the front desk went back to grab him (took 5 minutes) and came out with the wrong dog!! It wasn't until my girlfriend said something that she realized this wasn't our dog. She then went back to the grooming room (another 5 minutes) and came out with our dog, who was still wet and had not been clipped and was shaking. The groomer then came out after my girlfriend asked the young girl in the front what was going on and she said that she got the dogs confused and they didn't mean to call us. WOW. The groomer said that he would be ready in 40 minutes and that we should get tea next door. Reluctantly, we left the shop and got in the car and that is when we decided that we didn't want to leave our dog with these people. So, I went back in and took our dog. Mind you...what had my dog been doing for the 2.5 hours that he was there!? I am not a "yelper" but felt the need to write this review because I would want to know the type of experience my animal and I are going to get if going to this shop. It is also upsetting because there are not a lot of options in Truckee and now I feel that there is no choice but to go Reno. read more

Wonderful experience. Friendly, reasonable grooming prices and my dog received an excellent cut. They made room for our pet as he was uncomfortable with the heat and were very thorough and professional. Great things to buy and my dog received the best cut he has had. Will be back. I'd post a negative if I could. I took my babies there for a nail trim. They wouldn't let me go to beck with them. I'm never up for that but they were recommended so I trusted them. Then I heard my boy wince. I asked if he's ok. They said yes. I asked to see him to comfort him. They said no because it's because it woukd make him more nervous. I explained that i never let them go without me. Dispite my instincts, I let it go because he can be whiny ans was done by then. But then I heard my girl, who never cries, cry. I demanded to see her while proceeded to the back. She was bleeding. Her ears were down, which only happens when she's hurt and/or scared. They said she was fine. She was not. Go to Tahoe Intergated Vetinary Care. They're great! And you can be there to comfort your furry loved ones. read more

I just absolutely LOVE scraps. I was recommended to try it out from my local veterinarian after asking about what kind of food I should feed my puppy. So, I brought in my 3 month old pup and let them know my situation. They literally sent me home with 10 bags of sample dog food for her to try out. This is what mainly got me to patronize their business but since then I find more and more great things about them! Their staff is great and very knowledgeable. I always go in there with different questions about my dogs nutrition and they always seem to have to right answer. Love their GOOD quality foods. From raw to wet to dry, they have it all, and they have all the good stuff! They have very competitive prices for their food. I look online and find that I can buy it cheaper at scraps. The toys they stock are great too. Most of them are stuffing free and last a fairly long time for my now 50 pound pup. They also offer some great discounts.. 10% off if you buy 12 cans of food. Buy 12 bags of dog food, get one free.. etc. Also, don't forget to greet the stores cat, Polly. He is a sweetheart and will follow you around the store and he gives kisses, too! I find myself coming in here at least once a week now, and HIGHLY recommend giving them a try. read more

Scraps is the best dog store in Truckee! Although the shop may seem small, the owner is FULL of knowledge. I came in looking for a remedy for my dog's bad breath and she recommeded a great spray/toy combo. When I asked about another products, she was quick to tell me it wasn't as effective on her dogs, and that she tries to only stock things that actually work and are healthy. I love their assortment of food and treats, my dog is always so excited to go in. And as I said, they only carry things that are good for dogs (grain free and such). Their baked treats are also amazing, I bought my puppy the ice cream cone and she loved it. Every time I go in, the owner is very very friendly and helpful and is great at asking questions. She gave me a few sample bags of food so I can see what food my dog likes before buying one of the huge bags. Its the little things like that that make loyal customers. read more
