Exactly what I expected. I found the chew things I needed for our trip. We got a pigs ear, back thing, and a long log thing. We didn't actually chew on any of them on our trip, but we had them. Check hours before going as they are closed early. We lucked out and it was open. Good thing we went early. I recommend this pet store, it has everything you need and more novelty things. read more

I have a love and hate relationship with this store but for now we depend on it, even as unreliable as they can be!!! My puppy has a genetic condition, and he is on a soft food diet. It's a battle to make sure that every week the store orders the extra box as requested. I've had numerous issues with this store and them not following with that they said they would do I've had to drive to Tahoe city and even incline because of "miscommunication" on their behalf. Reviewing the self service dog washing station. I was camping and needed to bathe my 7 lb pup before heading out of town. There are two stations and are mostly designed for large dogs, but they can raise the floor of one side of the bath to accommodate tiny dogs. The bath/sink was clean, but they only had one type of shampoo and one conditioner. Other places have several to choose from, so it seemed limited. Also, they only had two brushes to use, and neither was great for my dog's fur type. So, the supplies are limited, but if you need a place to wash your pup while in the area, it is fine. read more

Pet washing for the 65-lb and 54-lb girls. They have the type of station I love - narrow and deep - so that my short self can actually reach them as they hug themselves to the far wall of the washing station. They don't mind baths at all, but why make it easy for me, LOL? The service was excellent and all the employees were extremely friendly. When we walked in there was an employee to explain how it works, and that there'd be a small wait as the 2 stations were currently in use. No problem, our dogs love to sniff out what's being sold in "their" store. Didn't wait long...but kind of glad we were next because the other station was there long before we arrived, and still there after we left. It was a husky and s/he was blowing coat like crazy, so it took the owner a LONG time to work with the dog. Anyway, we were able to take our time, there was plenty of shampoo, and even a brush, and then plenty of towels. Wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

Today I went to pet Station and spoke to the manager about a Canidae chicken dry dogfood bag which I discovered too late was rancid . Our two large breeds have been severely ill for a week and a half so I wanted the manager to know that this specific food bag was not right. I asked for a replacement bag but the manager answered she will not give me a bag for free. For free ??!! I will now have to shop from Amazon instead. read more

This place is soooo infuriatingly over priced it's not even justifiable by the fact that it's in a resort community. I just went, ready to suck it up, knowing that we'll run out of dog food by tomorrow evening. I was prepared to pay three or four, or more, dollars more for a smaller bag of food to tide us over until the end of the week, but it was more than triple what we pay anywhere else. I looked at a bag--couldn't really tell the size from the angle I was standing-- priced at a shade less than $20, and assumed assuming it was a 15 LB bag. Nope. A 5 LB bag of a brand of food that I pay $41 per 33 LB bag down the hill. How do they live with themselves? I don't know about all these people who gush all over this ripoff place. Maybe they don't live in an area with decent alternatives, but the ability to parrot a manufacturer's marketing info and make it sound "authoritative" does not make a sales person "very knowledgeable." Nor does "greeting my dog." They work in a pet food store for god's sake! It's a pretty low bar for employment if all they have to do is greet a dog and tell the owner how cute it is. I just walked out empty handed. I guess my monthly trip to Reno will happen a few days earlier than I'd planned. I will not step foot in this place ever again. The dogs will get leftover steak and potatoes first. read more

So I came in today while on this side of the lake from south shore & since I brought my Fur baby with me I thought why not go in & check out the goods! So I was looking for oral care for my dog did find 3 different types & bought them all hints the 1 star but, I was looking for a Zuke treat also I asked a clerk & she shrugged me off & said she didn't know! Hmm great customer service! As if that wasn't enough then Jessica was my cashier rings me up doesn't say anything I mention I shop @ the pet station on the other side & will my phone number help she says it's just for food! I've been coming here since we bought a house here in Truckee (3 years or so.) They are located in a little shopping strip (right by Zano's - yum!) I love it because I can buy my huskies' hard-to-find dog food here - Eagle Pack. Not the easiest stuff to find! And it's less expensive than the 2 places I can get it back in the Bay Area (where we live.) Plus they stock all the flavors of dry and canned. A lot of places will just stock 2 or 3 flavors. They offer a lot of natural treats and all at reasonable prices. I can still get my Greenies cheaper online (but their Greenies are still cheaper than other places) but they have a lot of other treats/bone choices. They have a whole fish section which I don't go into but it's pretty big. Also several cat-related aisles that I don't go in either. And they have a grooming service there (self serve and by them I believe.) I also saw a flyer in there for a home services (pet sitting and walking) so they really are a full service place. It is owned by a local couple and I always see one of them in there. They are very friendly. And always offer to help me carry my giant bags of dog food out! :) They have a 2nd location in South Lake Tahoe as well. Both locations are open 7 days a week which is nice. They have huge selection of organic, natural foods and treats for dogs and have a frequent buyer program. Rebekah, who I think is the manager, is incredible. Her knowledge base about animals is huge and she has been able to answer any and all questions I've had regarding my dog's health needs. She has taught me a lot! I also purchased a rabbit from pet station. Before taking him home the staff taught me all I needed to know and more about rabbits and I felt fully prepared for the challenge of owning one. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I bought a harness here and the staff went above and beyond both with helping me find a harness in my budget and fitting it to my dog. On another occasion I came to find an alternative to raw hides and the staff was very helpful in helping me find "Pig Earz" which are much better for a dog's digestive system than traditional raw hide. She took the time to look over my dog and ask me questions and I felt VERY comfortable leaving my dog in her hands. Only 2 hours later my dog was ready and she looked perfect. I think we need to show people like me and many others in our community who cannot wear a cloth mask over their faces a little more tolerance and love. I've been a regular customer for years since the new owners renovated the space (formerly rented and occupied by Mickey's Pet Stop) and opened the Pet Station. (Mickey's later reopened as Mickey's School of Grooming in a new location in the Gateway center) The store is clean and the staff super friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of natural, organic and grain free dog and cat food at very competitive prices. Lots of dog toys and fish stuff to. It is a joy to be able to support a local business and not take a ding to the pocketbook. Their grooming is wonderful as well! For $15 you can use the self service dog wash area. They even have a frequent wash punch card to get the price down even more. Or, you can opt for full grooming for very reasonable prices! Nancy is wonderful! She took the time beforehand to listen to what I wanted done, as well as my dog's skin issues, sensitivities, etc. My dog is a good boy, but he can be a bit of a handful at times. He is an escape artist extraordinaire, has sensitive skin, grows a dense undercoat which mats incessantly, considers baths to be punishment, and thinks the blow dryer and nail clippers are attack weapons. I may have wished her 'good luck' when I dropped him off, asking her to do the best she could. Two hours later, he was finished (keep in mind he has always had to stay most of the day to be air dried in the crate because he won't let anyone near him with the dryer). Nancy had managed to remove all of the undercoat, and he had let her blow dry him! My 11 year old pup felt so good he was prancing around like a puppy! I cannot recommend Nancy enough! I also have many friends and neighbors who love her as well, so she comes highly recommended! read more

Ok, so I had a TERRIBLE experience at the Truckee Pet Station in which I had FULLY intended to write a scathing review regarding this experience....however, after I cooled down a bit from the Shock, I thought about what it means to be a small business owner, especially in a small town, and decided to call the owner and have a calm conversation, informing him of what had happened, and give him the opportunity to Educate his staff.... He was WONDERFUL, a real professional, who listened to my complaint and concerns and gave me some insight into his concerns as well, he took care of me as a customer and because of that I WILL patronize one of his other stores when the need arises again, granted, this won't be necessary until next spring...if you saw my dog you would understand why.... ;- ) read more

Nancy the groomer did a wonderful job grooming my Aussie!!!! I met her while we were both out walking our dogs, which was perfect since I had been looking for a groomer. I had a bad experience elsewhere so I was cautious about where to go. Nancy was very at ease with me and my dog, she showed me pictures of other Aussies she had done and we talked about what I liked and wanted. 10 minutes before my dog was ready she gave me a call so I would know when my dog was done. When I picked up my dog she looked beautiful! Nicely trimmed up, fluffy, soft, and she smelled nice. The best part was when I picked up my dog, she was just finishing up on the table when I walked in, and my dog had a big "happy dog" expression on her face. Now my dog is prancing around the house - I think she knows she look pretty. I'm pleased with Nancy, highly recommend. I could go elsewhere to buy dogfood, treats, etc., but, having been elsewhere before, WHY would I try to save a nickel just to receive worse customer service and treatment?? I have never received even a harsh look from anyone that works there in Truckee. They not only go out of their way to help you find something, they smile and are genuinely friendly! Yes, some days just SUCK!! But, could/would you smile and be nice even after some putz brings his dogs in for a nail treatment and one of them takes a dump all down two aisles??? Well, it happened to them today with my dogs! The girls NEVER even frowned! I freaked out and did my best to clean up the situation but, 10 stars to these girls!!! They handled this like pro's. So let me start by saying I absolutely love this place. Anything that my dogs need they are on top of it, have natural remedies and great advice. My husband and I have been customers here for many years and have never had a problem with employees. UNTIL the other day! I have 3 dogs which require 2 different dog foods each bag 40 lbs I am not the frailest lady but I definately cannot carry 2, 40lb dog food bags. So i politely asked an employee for assistance as I do everytime I come in, much to my supirse he( come to find out his name is NOLAND TROWE) said NO he was BUSY AND COULD NOT HELP ME in a very cocky manner with an attitude I have never had the discomort of knowing. I didnt even know what to say!! Saying NO to customers is the incorrect answer. Totally put off by this guy. i dont know what his problem is but he is definately not worthy of working in such a great place. read more

I have shopped a lot of pet stores in my lifetime and in plenty of places all over the world. I can recommend this store as on the the cleanest, most professional, and most helpful that I have ever been in. If the staff doesn't know about something they offer to find out. They won't tell you something just to make a sale. Their prices are cheaper than Reno, Carson City or just about anyplace else I have checked out. I am on a fixed budget so prices are very important to me and they seem to be to the owners of the store as well. I have taken my dogs here to be groomed and nails cut and they love going back which is something I cannot say for all pet groomers in Truckee. As to the claims of Deborah B., all I can say is that I have NEVER heard anyone in Pet Station say anything bad about Mickey's. And in fact have heard the employees actively recommend other pet stores in the area if they can't satisfy the customer. Not only are the stores open 7 days a week but now they have one in Tahoe City on West Lake Blvd. so I don't have to drive all the way to Truckee. Yeh!!!!! read more

This is an amazing pet store! Our dog eats raw food only and they have such a wide variety of products for his diet. From bulk food bins of dried turkey, duck and chicken necks and other treats to frozen food meals. We live in the bay and it's hard to find just one brand in a store, I mostly order online.
