Up until about 3 weeks ago Spokane Eye Clinic was great. But recently there was some significant change in structure and / or ownership, and now they are bottom tier. Staff is highly disgruntled. Service is disjointed. Orders are getting lost. Scheduling is impossible. If you find any of this hard to believe, just try to get ahold of anyone on the phone. Up until am month ago I was very happy with Spokane Eye. As of today, I am switching providers and not looking back. If you have any kind of emergency needs, I feel for you and wish you luck. After I find a new provider I will update this with a recommendation, but for the time being, the only recommendation I have is literally anywhere other than the Spokane Eye Clinic. This sucks because I really like my eye doctor. Leaving Dr. Riley is going to be a bummer. read more

We love Dr Colburn and staff! Staff is responsive, informative. Dr Colburn even more so. My toddler daughter had cataract surgery and he was honest with how things went and we are looking forward to healing. He has made scheduling easy, making things work for us and working on his days off. Very much involved and we are very well informed. We had an Excellent experience today w/ Dr Colburn @ Spokane Vision Clinic. Both the nurse & the doctor took their time examining and testing both my kiddos. Additionally the doctor spent a great deal of time discussing & answering all our concerns & questions. He wasn't too pushy in either direction but rather provided us extensive knowledge about both forms of treatment and the success rate of each. We came to the appointment because we were recommended for Vision Therapy by one of our normal family vision doctors but Dr Colburn explained in detail why that may not be the best route to take, we personally picked this clinic despite us being referred to another clinic because of the detailed expertise on their website and we were hoping to seek care from the best of the best no matter the distance of travel (we come from Moses Lake). He also explained the possible need for surgery with my son but not my daughter. He described all of the details of what that would entail and the success rate and potential final outcome from surgery. We felt he genuinely respected our wishes as he could see we weren't a fan of having to have my son undergo surgery. He did a great job educating us with all the knowledge we needed to make our own decision as a parent (my mom was there with us in place of my husband) and recommended we do followup appts for my son in 6 months and 1 year for my daughter unless we see a negative progression in their symptoms or challenges within in their learning abilities that may be (or may not be) from their vision challenges (Strabismus exotropia aka wandering eye). He elaborated on the extensive cost of Vision Therapy and explained that medical coverage doesnt cover the expense because there is no proven medical studies that support the success of it but also told me if we wanted to still pursue vision therapy treatment to certainly do that if we felt it was worth the chance it could make a difference. With that said although he said surgery for my son may potentially help my sons issue there was no guarantee which is why he said we can monitor the condition. We genuinely appreciated his knowledge and willingness to educate us and didnt just soley push surgery beings that was the only treatment he could provide. Lastly his staff was all very patient, knowledgeable and respected our time. We had to schedule two separate appts one for each kiddo that were 1hr apart but they didnt proceed in that manner. Both kids were examined carefully back to back and reviewed with care. They truly took their time with us and treated each kid accordingly. we were a bit nervous coming to the appt because of a couple negative reviews I seen on Google but our experience was awesome...nothing remotely close to some of the negative Google reviews I read. Im so glad I followed my instincts to schedule with this clinic oppose to the original one we were referred to in TriCities. I felt Dr Colburn truly cared and went above and beyond to give me all the background knowledge I needed to feel comfortable navigating and making my own parental decision now and going forward. If you or your kids are having vision limitations such as my kiddos I highly recommend you schedule an appt here. While we didnt get the prognosis we were expecting I think it was better because he educated us in all the treatments we could ultimately choose to pursue how we felt best necessary. When we originally began reviewing this issue 1yr ago with one of our home vision doctors it was dismissed and mis-diagnosed. When we seen a different doctor within the clinic he recommended the vision therapy. The 1yr lapse of time really had me frantic about the situation and feeling like I was racing against time to not fail my kids need for care. But knowledge is power and this appointment really allowed my concerns to be recognized but not be full of worry. Thank you Dr Colburn & staff of Spokane Vision Clinic you really helped me relieve some stress from my worried Mama mind that I have the knowledge I need to proceed in the manners I feel necesssary. read more

Professional staff were laudable. Receptionist staff were courteous. The Eyeglasses Shop? WORSE eyeglasses over the pass 40 years. Not just one pair but two pairs are the worse bifocals ever fitted. AND -it 'only' cost $1,700 and five weeks! Sincerely, I learned to NEVER buy spectacles from an Eye Doctor's commercial practice. Seriously, NEVER purchase eyeglasses or even sunglasses at The Spokane Eye Clinic. Two pairs - both irreparably prepared wrong - neither are worth $250. I think Wal-Mart makes better glasses - I KNOW Costco does at 30% of the cost for the same frames. Yes, I regret these everyday they sit on the desk as a static display of futility. Pretty unhappy with Dr Stone and his assistant and will not be going back. While he did successfully treat my eye condition, he didn't leave the time for an eye exam which was what I was returning for. He didn't want to do it on my 1st appointment until my condition was treated. When I asked him about it he said he didn't schedule for that and it would be an additional $60 charge. When I told him I was concerned with the drifting in my left eye (which I previously had surgery on to correct) again he dismissed me saying I would have to reach out to the Dr who did the surgery, it was not his area of expertise. I understand that but, they are in the same office....no cooperation? Referral? Etc. He left the room and his assistant begrudgingly did my exam. She is not a licensed optometrist! She was obviously irritated and short with me when I asked her to repeat the steps of the exam saying 'last time, it's not going to get any better to keep switching'. I have one eye that is worse than the other and wanted to have her test that eye first. She said no! That the computer program wouldn't allow for that. I left shaking my head, you pay so much for healthcare...it's disheartening when you have to deal with people who act like you are putting them out for just doing their job. Adding this....RCW 18.53.021 License required. It is a violation of RCW 18.130.190 for any person to practice optometry in this state without first obtaining a license from the secretary of health. read more

My doctor sent in a referral so I was anxious to make an appointment with the eye clinic. But, the person I talked to said it was too early since they had just received the paper work. She said they would call me. That was over a month ago. I have not heard a word. I'll just keep waiting and maybe they will call before the new year. I've had a problem with my right eye ever since having surgery at the Spokane eye clinic. My vision is fine but something happened there and my eye is always irritated now. The doctor did not answer my questions about the symptoms I was having after the surgery. I was also sent twice to the wrong location. Went back and managers seemed concerned about my situation and referred me to a triage Doc who treated me for Blepharitis which is not the symptoms I was experiencing. I think I'm going to have to go somewhere else and have the surgery redone as I cannot live like this because I drive for a living and they are not willing to re-do the surgery at Spokane eye clinic. read more

Here I sit in their office now for 1 hr and 29 mins so far and still not seen dr. This happens EVERY time I come here. If they had not of dilated my eyes as soon as I got here I would leave. When asked about delay I'm always told 'we had an emergency'. Last nite I got vm from them telling me they overbooked and could I come in at different time. My time is also valuable. I just had cataract surgery on my 2nd eye with Dr. Day. I opted for the Symfony lens, what a difference! Very grateful to Jeff Mazza for helping me understand the benefits of the lens. Doctor Kerns is my optometrist and she's great. She's funny and obviously enjoys what she does. She's a pleasure. Unfortunately the reception staff is awful. On my first visit the older woman at the check in desk was very much apathetic and flat. I let it go as it was 8:00 AM and mornings can be rough for everyone. The check out girl, who was maybe 20, couldn't tell me what my copay was and she forgot to schedule my next appointment. I ended up having to call back, but after waiting on hold for eight minutes I hung up. I had a contact evaluation today, and when I went to the contact desk the receptionist there pointed me to the main check in area. The main check in area had me go back to the contact area. The contact area receptionist I spoke with was a sour woman of roughly 300 lbs, and was somewhat rude. She apologized for the inconvenience, but you could tell she was annoyed. On the plus side, the tech that did my contact eval was very nice. While the clinical staff is excellent, the reception staff is substandard. I'm not sure it's worth going back. read more

I have been with Spokane Eye Clinic since I was 6 years old. That is literally 20 years! I have a syndrome called Sticklers Syndrome and as a kid, your parents take care of understanding your health better than you do, right? Anyway every pair of glasses has come from there yearly. They fixed my retinal detachment a couple years ago and I knew this syndrome was no joke. I am very blessed to have this company know my chart and me and be at ease. Now the 3 stars. I am a young female just trying to scrape by and unfortunately as an adult, health insurance is difficult and eyeballs are so expensive. My cheapest pair of glasses would be $600 and there is "nothing they can do." Furthermore I had to push my latest eye exam because I am still making payments on the last one. It's like adulthood is bs or something. Sheesh. read more

Also shout out to Terri in contacts who not only helped me get contacts before my trip but also (I think Larry) adjusted my glasses! This is a long overdue review of Spokane Eye clinic. I had cataract surgery at Spokane Eye Clinic on my right eye, then the left one a few weeks later. The correction on the first was not very good and I complained about it to the surgeon. He became defensive but said he would recalculate for the second one and it is excellent. I had Shingles on the right side of my face 30 years earlier which had been reported in past visits to the surgeon. About three weeks after the right eye surgery, I developed shingles in that eye. Very painful and I would have thought avoidable. They claimed that the shingles were not related to the surgery. I find that hard to believe. They charged my insurance with a co-pay for me for treatment of the shingles even though what I paid for the cataract surgery was supposed to cover all expenses for the surgery. Of course, they were claiming that the two were not related. I was also very unhappy with how I was treated when I had the issue. My wife and I have found another Opthalmologist who is not associated with Spokane Eye Clinic and who we like very much. We will never go back to Spokane Eye Clinic. read more

I've been going to the Spokane Eye Clinic intermittently for 20 years, and ... no more. I just can't. 1. The longest appointment was nearly 6 hours from the moment I walked in the door to the moment I walked out. This was for a very standard eye exam. No special testing. They usually take so long getting me back that I end up dilated twice. (No other doctor I've seen does this.) I've never gotten out of here in less than 2.5 hours. Not once. I've nearly always been scheduled for "about an hour and a half." 2. They have consistently provided me with unworkable, unwearable prescriptions that are often bizarrely different from what my usual Dr. provides. This is likely related to the fact that their 60 dollar refraction often lasts as little as 5 minutes, and is primarily performed by a tech, not a doctor. 3. Their staff is rude, uninformed, and obfuscating if you have 'inconvenient' questions for them. 4. The doctors here will pretty much always argue with you about your symptoms. It's not a medical appointment, it's a cross examination. 5. I don't know if this is still the case, but you have to request your prescription from them at the end of the appointment if you want it. They are very often cagey about providing it. Furthermore, most eye drs will work with you if your prescription doesn't work after you get your frames and lenses, usually providing a free refraction/double checking the glasses. Not these guys! They refused to even check that the glasses I purchased elsewhere were ground to the prescription they'd given me. 6. The second-to-last straw was an absolutely horrible appointment with Dr. Kinard in which she told me that she was going to deliberately misdiagnose me for my own good. That was a mind-bender. The only reason I stayed with this clinic as long as I did is they were the only show in town for a very long time. They aren't anymore. And anyway, I now have the means to travel to Portland or Seattle for eye care if the need arises. I will never come back here. read more

Wow, was this a disappointing experience...an hour and a half for an eye exam? Give me a break.... Let me vent for a moment - when I have to take time off of work for an appointment, this really pissed me off! Time spent waiting in the lobby and in the exam room were terrible - 15 minutes in the lobby... then another 40+ minutes in the exam room waiting?!! BAD!!!! regardless of quality, I can't afford the time out of my schedule to go to this place! It took so long to get me exam completed I didn't even have time to get glasses - so another trip.... I'll be going to a different optical store with my Rx. Also, I was shocked that an optical "assistant" completed 90% of my eye exam - after a very long wait, the eye doctor came into the room for 5-6 minutes... after 30 years of seeing a variety of eye doctors, have always had the doctor do the exam - not just review and verify the assistants results. If you want a doctor to do your full eye exam, and you don't want your exam to take 1.5 hours.... this may not be the best fit for your eye exams. There are many eye doctors to choose from at this facility, so you'll want to verify - perhaps they each manage their individual practices differently - have no idea since its part of a single large eye clinic. Beautiful building, free coffee - but staff wasn't friendly checking in, and no explanation was given why my wait was soooooo long - so have to assume that's normal???? read more
