I have an issue with one of my eyes and I felt well taken care of with Dr. Robertson. Very thorough exams and great explanations of changes to the eyes, prescriptions, and treatments. All the staff is amazing and very kind. A great selection of eyewear to choose from and a wonderful team to help you select and fit that perfect pair. The quality of care seems fine, but in addition to their fairly high prices on everything, I grew really tired of the constant attempts to upsell me on products/procedures I just didn't need. The doctors are very pushy with upselling, the doctor didn't even ask before he referred me to a treatment that would have cost a fortune. The office is very obviously sponsored by a treatment company and it makes appointments feel like a solicitation service, like they aren't actually there to help but to make commission. The doors during exams aren't closed and a nurse watched in on my exam that discussed semi-private information. Some Nurses are rude, nosy, and unfriendly. I have been with this practice since 2006. Office staff are professional and extremely pleasant. Both optometrists have good communication skills and are excellent providers - that is not the issue. The issue is the continuous up-selling of products and services. And, many patients aren't aware. The office REQUIRES Optos retinal images before each annual exam ($39 last year; not covered by insurance). Other offices do not. In 2021, Dr Maier had me undergo an exam (offered free) to see if I would benefit from Neurolens (prism lenses that help the eyes align). She said that eyes that do not align properly can result in headaches, eye strain, dizziness, and neck strain, but I told her I was not having any of these issues. She wanted to perform the analysis anyway. Surprise! I qualified! Neurolens is not covered by insurance and would cost roughly $800. I declined. In 2023, the office is requiring each patient to complete a Neurolens questionnaire before being taken back for the exam. In 2022, support staff performed a laser scan of my retina (in addition to the Optos retinal images) before my exam without explaining why (or if) it was necessary. The tech ushered me through their office pre-exam testing protocol. I incurred a $40 co-pay for that too. I voiced my concern regarding the up-selling to Dr Robertson. To be clear . . . Dr Maier opened and owns this practice. She is responsible for this up-selling. It is profit-generating. It is my opinion that my provider should place my personal health care NEEDS above practice profit motives. This year (2023), I am seeking eye care from a different practice. read more

I've always had good experiences here, but today I am sorely disappointed. I had a 9:45 appointment and arrived just at that time, only to find that the business had moved. That's my bad, I didn't know they had relocated a few years ago. So I called up the office and said I'll be right over. I arrived at 9:57, whereupon I was told that the doctor would not be able to see me and that I would need to reschedule. I was 12 minutes late. And I even called to tell them I would be late. But the cutoff is 10 minutes. If you're ten minutes late you're canceled. The young lady was kind enough to tell me that I would not be charged for a missed appointment. Seriously. Fortunately I can make my own hours at work. But imagine if I were an hourly worker who had to take time off for an appointment? This was not cool. read more

I called to make 2 appointments: one for myself and one for my husband, and they told me they could see one of us today (immediately) so I booked it for my husband. I made sure to give all my insurance information to the receptionist on the phone before our appointments. She didn't mention anything to me at the time and I was assured everything was fine with our insurance. Once my husband arrived and filled out the new patient paperwork, he was VERY disappointed to find out that Eyes For Life in fact does NOT take our insurance and that he wasted valuable time on a rare day off to drive out to this appointment. Why this was not conveyed to us prior to coming in is beyond me. It's very disrespectful and unprofessional to do this to patients. I pay for excellent insurance and it needs to be used. I am not interested in doing much out of pocket if we don't have to. I get the poor impression that Eyes For Life just lures people in on the premise of using insurance benefits, and expect them to just stay and pay for services out of pocket when told their insurance isn't accepted. Horrible way to do business. Obviously, we will find another optometrist. My advice is to square away and get an honest answer about your insurance while on the phone before going to the appointment. Cost is exorbitant, and you can't get around it. Add-on tests are not covered by insurance but are mandatory. (A quick aside, last time I went in was April 2020. No face masks. When I asked if Dr. Maier would be willing to wear a mask while examining me, she seemed surprised and disgruntled by this request.) My husband had an eyelash that fell into his eye during his exam. Dr. Maier charged him $50 to remove it. Because of Covid job changes. I had to switch insurance coverage recently. Eyes For Life grudgingly kept me on as a client (after 4 years of loyal patronage). However, I was not able to book an actual appointment, but was instead put on a waitlist that was only available if/when a client cancelled their appointment. Appointment timing was only available under cancelled patient time, and fell through twice. At Eyes For Life, it's all about the money, not about their patients and their needs. read more

The first thing that drew me to this clinic was how aesthetically gorgeous the office is! Secondly, the entire staff was extremely friendly, caring, and helpful. Everyone made me feel very welcome. They also have some top notch diagnostic technology. The techs and Dr. Robertson listened to my needs. Dr. Robertson was thorough and provided exceptional counseling and education regarding my eye health. Lastly, I was grateful for the opticians' patience. I already have a difficulty choosing what I want to eat for dinner, but they were very helpful and offered their opinions on which frames looked best on my facial structure while catering to what I liked. I was a bit hesitant about once again going to this business (required an expensive procedure not covered by insurance and always pushed other products and services....constantly), but my wife and I decided to give them another chance. Bad decision. The business attempted what I would call a bait and switch for extremely expensive lenses on my wife. She caught it and went with regular lenses. For some reason, the new glasses were not really covered by the insurace fully (cost us over $250), as we felt they should have been. As for my experience, the lenses provided (waited over two weeks for them) were blurry and simply did not work. I could not get my money back ("You signed a document that stated a $250 restocking fee, you see"), so went with requesting new lenses based on my old prescription. Only one week later I received a message that my new lenses were ready! Upon putting them on, they were still blurry. I now assume that new lenses were never made and they just tried to pass off the old ones that didn't work in the first place. Not wanting to get into another legalistic discussion with the office manager, I let the young lady who was helping me know I was not pleased with the lenses and would be doing business elsewhere. I let her know she was a nice person, but I would not be returning to Eys For Life. The receptionists are great, the technicians seem to be good at their jobs, but we will never go there again, and recommend others to avoid the business, too. That is, unless you enjoy the feeling that you are dealing with an business philosophy of "never give a sucker an even break". read more

Eyes for Life did a lovely job in listening carefully to my vision concerns. I was able to schedule a last minute appointment. I liked their diagnostic tools. I felt more comfortable their testing than I had at my previous optometrist. (That puff of air into your eye tho!) The parking lot is free and right across from Gordy's so you can get great Sichuan food after your eye appointment! Pro tip: make sure to ask for the budget frames and lenses if that is what you are looking for. They aren't on display yet at the office. They have a kiddo play nook on the first floor and abundant Keurig bevvies. If that matters to you :-). read more

The best. Two years ago, after Spokane Eye wrecked my vision by prescribing the wrong eye drops for my corneal transplant, I complained to my insurance company and they said they would cover Eyes For Life. Dr. Robertson was very thorough, prescribed new glasses. One arm of the temple pieces broke and they fixed it very quickly at no charge. This year, I went back for new glasses. Dr. Robertson told me that my corneal transplant was drying, and might separate from the eyeball. Prescribed glycerine rich Oasis eyedrops, a humidifier, asked me to limit computer time and to use certain eye pads that had to be heated in a microwave. So I bought my first microwave and am getting pads next week. And, they donate 20% of profits to local charities, and you get to choose which your donation goes to. What's not to like? read more

I was in Spokane for a few days and realized too late that I didn't bring enough contacts. I called around everywhere and no one had my contacts in stock. Riley at Eyes for Life went above and beyond - at first she said they didn't have mine in stock, but she kept looking and called me back to say they did had a trial package, which they gave me for no charge. Very friendly and professional staff. Seamless handling from check-in with front desk (no wait!), optometry staff, Dr. Maier and, lastly, lens/glass selection. They were so involved and friendly, all the way to selling me new glasses, I was a little concerned the friendliness was just a money grab... But then I worked with Gina on getting new lenses and glasses and there was no pressure for upsell, whatsoever. She helped me pick out a new pair of glasses and was not pushing the most expensive, etc - just what looked best and worked with my insurance. Highly recommended! read more

Way too expensive. I gave them my insurance info and it was squared away but my glasses and appointment were $300 over the price as my husbands who didn't have insurance but went to eye guys. The staff has always been friendly and speed you through the process to see the Doctor. Dr. Maier is good about explaining what is going on with my eyes so even I can understand. The office is beautiful and all the staff are professional and friendly. If you have a lot of time to spend with appointments or need a lot of education as a new contact lens wearer, you may be very happy here. My issues were about wasting my time. First, they relocated but the address was not changed on their website. The receptionist should have mentioned the address change when making my appointment. I actually drove past their current office going to the prior office. Next, rather than the one appointment I had expected, it took 3 appointments to get my contacts prescription. I was told this was needed for measuring and checking fit, even though I have worn contacts 45 years. Since I declined their new computerized scan which I had done recently at another office, they said I would need to have my eyes dilated to check my eye health and it would be done at my next appointment. My eyes were never dilated at any time in 3 visits. They promoted the more expensive daily lens and ordered trial lens which did not arrive for 30 days. After waiting a full month for my paid for lenses to arrive, I went to inquire about them and learned they had not been ordered. With a little more organization and consideration for their clients time , this could be a 5 star business.
