We had issues with West Valley School District and felt our only choice was private school or homeschooling. I am so glad we chose to try VCS. Resilience is reinforced through small everyday actions that instill perseverance and enable children to push through life's difficulties. The five C's of twenty-first century skills include critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and character. I see this every day with my children and their peers. On field trips, facilitators of the tours have commented on observing these traits too - a testament to the quality of their education. Things that should be highlighted: - In the grades, first through eight, the students travel in a cohort with the same teacher. This builds rapport, year after year, and better understanding of how the child learns best. - It's tech free. No computers, no tablets, no movies. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Kids have their hands on realia. Not screens. - Updates. Parents receive updates from their teachers, snippets of what's happening in the classroom. - It comes with a wholesome community. Friendly, welcoming, and inclusive with plenty of coordinated opportunities to socialize with others, if your family is socially inclined. - The kids are outdoors every single day with plenty of recess time and weekly hikes. They were literally starving him after accepting the bottles we handed to the staff at every drop off, only a month later telling us that they can't make bottles from scratch, even though at start, we were told an exception would be made for my son as he wasn't on solid foods yet. They ignored my sons basic needs, pure negligence and poor judgment!

The math teacher my daughter had returned some of her graded assignments without uploading the…read moregrades. She then proceeded to assign my daughter some makeup assignments for her mistake. I sent the principal a very heated email inquiring as to why my daughter was having to stay up late doing these makeup assignments. The principal, Annie Marshall, sent me an email gaslighting me and my daughter accusing my daughter of not doing the work but ultimately admitted that she had no idea what happened. She pulled my daughter out of class and brought her into the office, and instead of asking her what happened or apologizing to her for what happened, told my daughter that it was her fault and she probably didn't do the assignments and that the teacher probably didn't lose the assignments. I attempted to contact the chairman of the school board, Dustin Seacrest, but the number they give only goes to the school. Found him on Facebook and sent a message with no reply. My daughter also played volleyball here and they kept her on the bench. I emailed the school asking about why she wasn't getting any playing time and the effect that was having on her confidence and self-worth. I received an email from a generic school email address that gave no reason for it. I sent a follow-up email asking for an actual reason and how their actions weren't very Christian like. If anybody would like proof of any of this I have all emails. I can't tell you where to send your kids, but based on my experience as well as my daughter's experiences, I cannot recommend this school at this time.

I was originally admitted to the University of Washington BASW program, but because the program is…read morehybrid and my employer could not accommodate the required in-person classes, I began looking for a fully online BASW. That led me to Eastern Washington University. While the Online BASW program itself is appealing, my admissions experience was unfortunately one of the most difficult I have encountered. After being admitted to EWU, I applied to the BASW program. From that point on, it often felt like the different departments were not communicating with one another. I was told multiple times that my official transcripts had not been received, even though another department had already confirmed they had been received. I found myself repeatedly providing screenshots of emails and confirming information that had already been given to me by EWU staff. The process felt disorganized, and I often had the impression that one department did not know what another department was doing. As a prospective transfer student trying to make an important educational decision, it was frustrating to spend so much time following up on information that should have already been available internally. There were positive experiences along the way. Al A. was knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely helpful. Denise A. was also courteous and assisted me with the admissions process. I appreciate the time they took to answer my questions. Unfortunately, those positive interactions were overshadowed by the overall lack of coordination. I never felt confident that my application was moving forward, and because my transcript evaluation continued to be delayed, I ultimately had to withdraw my application to avoid losing my place at another university. I believe EWU has a strong Online BASW program with great potential, but the admissions process would benefit greatly from better communication between departments, more consistent information, and a stronger focus on supporting prospective students. I hope my feedback helps improve the experience for future applicants.
