Although pricey, it's worth it! Let's start off with the amazing customer service I've received. I had the pleasure of meeting Brett. He is a Membership Advisor. He messaged me to see how I was doing and if I had any questions. My very first day as a member he showed me around the the gym from top to bottom, corner to corner. He even offered to take a class with me if I didn't want to take one alone. He is super friendly and funny. He continues to say hello to me BY NAME every time he sees me at the gym. That's amazing that he remembers my name considering how many people he sees and interacts with at the gym every day. Now Christopher (I believe that's his name) works at the shop at the gym where there's clothes, gym bags, and other accessories. When you become a member you get 20% off your first purchase at the shop. So...I took advantage of that! Christopher was patient with me as I looked around the shop. So many choices! Some of their brands run big...so I was happy that I was able to buy a smaller size than I normally would. Christoper helped me pick out some things and even showed me a super comfy sweatshirt. It's a men's sweatshirt...but it's the most comfortable sweatshirt I've ever worn. Comfy and warm! Brian, the manger is also super nice! I had a long conversation with him on my first day at the gym. It was so nice that he took the time out of his day to speak with me. He also greets me by name every time he sees me at the gym. As a new member you get a complimentary Pilates session. I took mine with Jacqueline. The Pilates session is in the studio and it's just you and the trainer. Jacqueline was very patient with me as I've never done Pilates before. She showed me how to use the machines. She also taught me that Pilates isn't just body movements...but it's about your mind as well. Which is very true. We even laughed! Who laughs when working out? That's what I thought. You also get a complimentary personal training session as a new member. I had the pleasure of meeting Tracy. She is wonderful! She understood me and my goals. She was patient and answered my questions. We also laughed a little. Again, who laughs when on an 10% incline and 3.5 speed on a treadmill?? That's what I thought! I felt so welcomed as a new member! Besides the "Welcome" email and "Welcome Packet" I received, I received a hand written welcome card in the mail, and another welcome card in the mail. I can truly tell the Equinox cares about their members. On to the gym... SO many machines for cardio and strength training! I've never had to wait for a machine. One of the things I like about the machines is that they have internet. I've enjoyed watching YouTube videos to get me through my workouts. You can even access Facebook, Google...and a ton of other things. You can sync LoseIt and other apps if you use apps to calorie count or to keep track of your food intake. There's also WiFi at the gym...so you can bring your iPad or other device and watch Netflix as you work out! I am guilty of this! :o) If you aren't sure how to use a strength training machine, don't be scared. During my tour of the gym, Brett mentioned there is always staff on the floor that will show you how to use them! Don't be shy...ask them! Locker rooms... I can't speak for the men's locker room, but the woman's locker room as everything you can think of. Hair dryers, straighteners, razors, tampons, mouth wash, hair gel, shaving cream, shower caps...etc. There's also a filtered water filling station and a digital scale. Everything you can ask for! Now the showers are wonderful. Kiehl's shower products are like a dream. They smell so yummy, and have me feeling refreshed. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and face wash. The showers are nice and hot! AND... eucalyptus towels!!! Smell so nice, especially after a sweaty workout! What are you waiting for?? GO workout at Equinox!

Ironically they don't care about the customer. A health club membership (Especially those on the higher end!! is for those of us who want to be healthier, improve our lifestyle, endurance, and how we feel. Its a pandemic and the company should be welcoming any and all business here versus complacency. I understand everyone's on a cell phone. My brother in law has been talking about Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym for years. "The top body…read morebuilders from all over train here!" I'm told. I mentioned for Father's Day, lets treat ourselves and work out at the Powerhouse Gym! What's great about this gym, they offer a daily rate. So we all agree to meet Saturday morning at Powerhouse Gym in Syosset. A very nice man greets us at the counter. He takes our information and scans each one of us into the system. We all start talking about "Bev Francis", Powerlifting champion of the 80s who broke more than 40 world Powerlifting records as well as the first woman to bench press over 300lbs. I'm diggin' the spot already! We're racking up the plates and ready to start our work out. A few regular members start talking to us, one guy tells me: There is equipment here from the 1970s! I'm not talking about old, junky stuff. There are certain tried and true weight lifting equipment that will never be out of fashion to use. Now I start looking at the other members. There are quite a few, just insane members that are lifting some serious weight. After working out I notice something I'm taking away from the gym: Old guys. That's right. When I was a kid in Brooklyn, my dads friends thought they were tough like Sonny Coleone. Not these guys. They were a few years older than me, but all in great shape. I watched them working out, just throwing weights around and having a good time. This isn't Planet Fitness where you have folks "resting" after each set. All of the members are a serious bunch of folks with serious goals. It was a pleasure to work out at Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym. I was visiting family in the area and needed a place to workout. I had already tried a local Planet…read moreFitness on their free day pass a few days earlier, which was fine...I suppose, but I needed something better. I'm not from NY and was not previously familiar with Bev Francis' Powerhouse Gym. What an experience! First, this place is enormous. Largest square footage of pure lifting equipment I've ever seen, and even more so, the largest variety of machines. Some contraptions so esoteric, it's not even clear what muscles they work from looking at them. The place is like the Smithsonian of weight machines. But there were a few things I discovered that I really loved and wished my own local gym had something similar. Second, this place is crowded. I was there mid-morning Saturday, and it was packed. I didn't need to wait for machines since I wasn't following a specific program, but if I had gone with a very specific set of exercises and order in mind, it would have been frustrating. The equipment condition varied depending on their age. Some was great, some seemed like they should have been retired a decade ago. Be aware that the gym caters more to elite bodybuilding than elite powerlifting. It won't make a difference for 99% of people, but as one example, there was a relative paucity of squat racks and benches for a place this large. If you are worried about being intimidated by the clientele, that may be a reasonable concern. I'm one of the biggest guys in most gyms, and I was only about average among the 100+ guys that were there. Having said that, there were only 1-2 freakishly large dudes (i.e. probable pro-bodybuilders), and the handful of people I interacted with seemed all relatively friendly. But it's not a place for beginners. Tiny annoyance: they have 2 scales which differed by 7 pounds (despite zeroing the ancient balance scale)

My son has been taking their Saturday 9am class for two months and he loves it. He is only 5 which…read moreis the youngest they start classes here but they effectively combine 45 minutes of fun and exercise with the basic fundamentals of fencing. All of the exercise and "games" in the class are fun for the kids while laying down the needed footwork required for fencing. Each class ends with 10-15 minutes of fencing against each other and the instructor - all in a very safe and constructive learning environment.

My youngest daughter is working hard to achieve her fencing goals with the help and guidance of Boris and Misha. I cannot express my gratitude enough for these fine coaches. Gym is maintained. Locker rooms are usually clean. Staff is friendly…read more However... if you are joining because you were sold on the 30 minute circuit room..,move on. People use the room as overflow from the main gym. People sit on 1 machine for 20 minutes at a time, not exercising... just scrolling their phone. Brought it up to the attendant at the desk several times and was told that I should point out to people that the room is for circuit use, as the sign clearly indicates. They said if anyone gives me a problem I could come back to the desk and they would deal with it. Okay, so first off... that's not my job. I pay to use that room as it is intended and how it was sold to me when I first came to look at the gym. Second, there are 4(!!!) attendants at the desk talking and on their phones. There is no station or presence anywhere else in the gym. When I first joined, over a year ago, staff took turns at least walking through the gym. How about you station someone in the back corner to oversee the gym and 30 min room so if there is a problem or safety concern someone doesn't have to go across the gym to get you? Simple.
