Such terrible customer service at this location. All I wanted was to exchange a T-shirt for a different size (tag is on shirt, receipt is their, shirt never worn). Was refused because I used a coupon for the purchase and their system can't handle the exchange unless I spend more money!! (Uhhuh.....how f-ed up is that! Maybe try to find an alternate solution!?!) New Sporting Life store in Hillcrest Mall! Big, bright, and packed! There is a sale going on and I think that every Asian family thinks that SL is giving away Canada Goose apparels! There are no discounts on it. No tax savings on it. Can not apply the coupon to it. But ... they drop the $700+ for it without question. SL probably sells more CG products than anywhere else! You can't miss it...located dead centre of the store. Personally, I like to layer North Face gear. The place has a huge women's section to the south of the store. A smaller men's section is around the north side. They carry all the goods to make winter bearable and keeping you style'ing! See you on the slopes! read more

I like that there's hardly any traffic here, so lots of room to browse unlike other locations, where I feel like I'm crowd surfing into the Canada goose jacket section when I'm really trying to go see the shoes. Only problem when it's not busy here, is the aggressive sales staff trying to sticker up your tags to get their sales quotas. I feel like prey being followed by a predator then get jumped on by usually two sales staff that fight to sticker up my stuff even though there wasn't any service used. Today he ran after me and kept hollering at the back of me head if I'm ready, which obviously shows he wasn't helping me cuz I had no idea he was calling out to me- before I got to the cash! Yikes. So buyers beware of this game They have a great shoe promo, by 12 pairs get one free. It's averaged out but if you have kids who go through 3-4 pairs a year it's worth the loyalty here. There are sales racks here but it's very discreetly signed so you have to look around a bit. Biggest Con is the final sales policy, online returns here and store credit is on a paper receipt and not on plastic card. Yah how secure is a paper store credit that might disintegrate ink in a month? Just read policies and hopefully you won't need it. read more

Really nice store (very high ceilings and bright), full of very expensive coats and skiing gear . I went there for the first time last week for some gym gear and they were pretty helpful and even found me exactly what I wanted (and on super sale too which I wasn't even expecting). I went for boots today and bought them and signed up for their membership because apparently if you buy 12 pairs of shoes you get #13 free. I'm not sure WHEN I'll ever do that but I guess when I start buying kids shoes it will add up. Sales staff have been helpful but that's probably because they aren't so busy. They have little stickers with their commission codes but they didn't seem too grabby or pushy... I wonder how big their quota is . I managed to get a pair of winter boots at 50% off when Walking On A Cloud across from them had it on for full price. Though if you look online there is another online store that matches the same 50% off (but it's nice trying it in store). I went to the boots section and since I didn't see it I asked the show sales person and she went to the back and got my size and style and I was delighted! I didn't want to buy online if I didn't have to because if I had to return them they charge a $10 restocking fee (which is really harsh especially for shoes and not something other stores do usually). Oh btw , anything that's on sale typically does not allow for a full refund but you only get store credit. I haven't had to use this but I hear store credit isn't on a gift card it's just a hand written note, which worries me a bit. read more

So I go in to find an item. They say they have stock but only 1. We all search the floor and can't find it. The guy goes and searches the back and can't find it. He takes my info and says he'll call around. Other stores have stock but he tell me he has to call them. He call around and tells me it can't be found. I see it online so he tells me to order from the website. I wait and no confirmation. I call in and guess what? The item is in transit, not to me, but the Mississauga warehouse. From where? The store near my house. But now it takes 3 days to get to the warehouse to be processed and then gets shipped out to me, which will take another week. This must cost them at least $30 in shipping and a week delay. Last time I ordered something, they lost it and I had to fight for a refund. That order is still pending according to UPS. Not keeping my hopes up. I should add that they offered me in store a $20 credit when I was there because I was going to buy $400 in product and was going to become a member, but couldn't follow through because they couldn't sell me the item they didn't have in stock, that they actually did have in stock. read more

Bought my wife a Christmas gift on Black Friday in NOVEMBER. The items literally don't arrive until Christmas eve after I had to call asking about them and they were the WRONG size! Had to send items back. Didn't get so much as a credit until I had to call and ask for it. The items I exchanged for them didn't fit, Ontario went into lock down, and with a new baby we didn't get a chance to return the items until later. They refused to accept the return or provide me an instore credit which I would have used the same day (and probably spend way more with the store). Instead "Tommy" the General Manager decides against using his authority and discretion to provide a refund or credit and simply accepts that they are losing a loyal customer for life (no pun intended). This store for Sporting Life is mismanaged. BUT after calling Head Office Customer Service Dept. I came to the conclusion that they don't care about the consumer. Truly, if David Russell walked this store and/or went as an Undercover consumer it would shut down the store and have a restart. Regrettably, the co-founder for the chain doesn't make it easy for anyone to communicate with him for feedback so hopefully, he reads Google Reviews. Sporting Life is not an "opening price" point store - prices are on the higher to highest side compared to their competition. They are PREMIUM & LUXURY retailer YET service levels are trending below expectations; their promotional programs (Rewards) have more Terms & Conditions to their offers I question why have a Rewards program? Store signage for merchandising is the worst for any retailer. Recently, we purchased Timberland boots that were on a in-store sale (20%) for the past 2 weeks. At the cash register, our boots were rung up at full price (no discount). We advised the cashier of the discount and was told that the discount wasn't in the system - the sale has been running for 2 weeks in this store!! We proved to the cashier that there was a sale for 20% and they provided us with a price reduction of 20% and afterward we heard the staff discuss how many customers bought Timberland boots expecting to have a discount applied at the cash register and it wasn't applied. CONSUMERS GOT OVERCHARGED! The merchandising displays on sales & discounts are terrible. If anyone from a Government Watchdog Agency investigated their display signage and these folks would be in a lot of trouble. On this topic during the same shopping experience, we experienced another awful shopping setback related to socks. Lastly, we call the Customer Service Number listed on their website. We expressed our concerns, they replied that they are Customer Service for Online only and for the In-Store experience its a different department BUT they don't have a Customer Service Number and you can only be transferred to them. Once transferred they can't help because they will explain that "we are working on this and/or that" responses, and so many other excuses. Forgetting to focus on the consumer and instead will blame the consumer for shopping store level instead of online,. WELL AFTER ALMOST 34 yrs. of shopping as a Sporting Life customer with between 4-6 annual purchases of $450++/purchase for 34 yrs. I can now say I won't be returning and will shop at your competition. I will save money, will most likely get better service as it can't get worse and when there is a pricing issue and I bring it to their attention I will be rewarded as well as not instructed to contact head office. Sporting Life forgot that in Retail is Detail! That should apply more now than ever before. Head Office excuses and allowing a long-time consumer to walk out with a bad experience is an indicator you have become a terrible retailer. read more

No star if possible! We been to different Sporting Life locations and this one is absolute crap. The Sales reps were friendly but its a totally different story at the cash counter. Wanted to use my Interac debit card to pay for for a $800 jacket. They immediately asked for my ID because they mistaken it for an international Card, and then after showing them my ID, they said cannot use the card without even trying it first. Even though my debit is a Canadian bank debit, and another customer beside us paid for with international Visa with no question asked. Then I give them my CIBC Visa, they ask for my ID again and took both my Visa and ID away for over 10 min and came said they dont accept it. Ask why cannot, the cashier just said "IDK, manager said cannot". We finally got the manager to come out and speak with us. He gave us a bullsh*t excuse saying that they only accept certain Visas, the one we happen to have is one of the Visas they dont accept. Even if they dont take certain form of payments, why ask for my ID in the first place. And I even called my bank to confirm, they told me as long as the store accepts Visa, I am able to use my Visa card. All this while they never even tried to swipe any of my cards, and 30 min gone by. read more

There is absolutely no sport in this store. This store's client is people who don't exercise. I mean who exercise while wearing big coats. The focus of this store is to sell coats. Just keep selling coats. That's it. I was looking for actual sport equipments. This store is hitting the right spot. Pretty sure that it's making lots of money. But not sure how sustainable it is. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!!! Absolutely terrible service. I would give this store 1 star for the most terrible service we have received. The reason why I am giving this store 2 stars is that of the fact that the person that was helping us with the ski helmets were nice and brisk. He gave advice and was friendly at all times. Then I went with my family to purchase a north face jacket. It was originally around $540 but it was 25% off so it was $410. We wanted to see if we could get a better deal so we talked to the manager. He said no which I could understand but we still attempted to bargain. However what was not okay was his attitude towards us was really inpatient and unmerciful. He said that north face was really lucky to get them some deal for boxing day that was 25% off. I don't find this kind of attitude okay towards any kind of customer. I also realized that the people that worked there they got a commission. Basically, the woman that first helped us placed her commission id on the price tag. The second lady that helped us was outrageous. Saying that there is actually 50% off and then placed HER commission tag over the other lady's id. After that, she just left us not doing anything. When we got the cashier there was a fight over the price between the cashier and us and multiple managers came over. The one that we spoke to (he was bald I don't know his name) was in a very uncalming attitude saying that he already spoke to us and we are wrong and didn't listen when the other lady that placed her commission tag over said it was $300. So I don't understand who is hiring these people. The person that worked at the cashier used absolutely no manners but pounding in the fact that our price ($300) is wrong at our faces. My whole family was really upset and we just bought the ski helmet and left. I have always been sympathetic to businesses that give poor service but this was absolutely outrageous. Later on in the day we went to Vaughan Mills shopping mall and went directly to the North Face shop there. We got the same jacket for $300. Yea sure my *** that 25% off was good. They swiped my card, went through, than they requested for my Photo ID cause they noticed it's international card?!!! Why didn't they ask before? My second time to this establishment and what an awkward experience, my only advise is that don't try to ask any question from the managers there, my friend and I stopped by after lunch, she had a junior ski pant which she purchased back in September but was sitting in her car because it didn't fit little Danny, we decided to go back and try to exchange it with a bigger size and while she was looking for a different style I took my daughter to look at the scooters close to the ski section, while I was holding her hand and walking I passed by this middle age man with glasses on who was complaining about other kids in the store trying to ride on scooters and making to much noises to this other gentleman with glasses and long beard. When they saw me passing by they hit quiet and after the man with the beard ( if I'm not mistaking his name sima ) turned around and said back home in my country if we see kids being loud and out of control we literally take a cherry branch tree and give them couple of good ones ! The older gentleman who I tried so hard to see his name tag because it was upside down ( Alex ) laughed and said yeah but with me I try to put them in their place with yelling silently ! The both giggled. I turned around started walking towards my friend and when I saw her I grabbed her quickly and said meet me at Starbucks. Everything and anything in this place is wrong, other than the merchandises and the visual everything else is wrong. Cashiers are a mess, not professional at all, smallest problem they page a manger to come and help them which you literally gonna be waiting for 15 minutes to overide or put in their password to look up a receipt or check something. My only advise is that to avoid this location 80% of the staff are so unprofessional, I've shopped at markville and it's Yonge st. Location also but let me tell you ! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Besides the fact that their managers are rude, their employees are completely uneducated about what they're selling. They also have zero desire to help customers find what they need - I asked if a certain location had a size that I need, they said no, later to find out that they did have the size that I need. On another note, one of the female managers from "Hard equipment" had the audacity to tell me that I was lying about when an item I requested was supposed to arrive to their store - the department manager Alex, who was the only helpful soul in that store told us that our order will be in within the same day, but the female manager below him said I "misunderstood" what he said. Well luckily Alex left a clear voicemail that would be hard to misinterpret. Consumers stay away from this location, the retail service and approach to customer service is terrible.
