    Dog friendly!
    Abi H.

Stopped by today because we have a Sports Basement membership and they offer free propane refills for members if you have a refillable canister! Super quick and easy. Just walk up to the counter and they'll exchange your empty canisters for two full ones! If you don't have a membership, they'll still refill your tanks at a very low cost. I forgot to double check the exact cost, but it was less than $10 for sure. The propane refill station is located at the same counter as gear rental. I'll definitely be coming back for rentals! They offer wagons, tents, bike racks, water sports equipment, etc. Great selection for those who can't store larger gear at home! All team members throughout the store were very friendly and ready to answer any of our questions. I had stopped right at the register when we walked in to see what kind of recycling services they offer. Right now they only accept shoes and reusable water bottles. Hopefully they'll eventually accept batteries and other recycling, it's so hard to find a place that recycles batteries nowadays. Parking in their lot is free but it's limited. There's plenty of paid street parking. If you're okay with walking a few blocks, you can park in the nearby residential for 2 hours for free as well. One thing that keeps me coming back to sports basement is that they are truly dog friendly. They have a sign at the register that says dog friendly and they even offer water bowl stations by the drinking fountains for your furry friends.

    Trying on overpriced shoes

Enormous store but a surprisingly sparse collection of hiking shoes, especially given that this region has some of the best hiking on the planet. They're not getting any awards for value. All their hiking shoes are cheaper online. This is a fun store to just walk around in. I was about to pick a pair of ski gloves marked 50% off, then I realized I have to join the club first. Club membership is only $25, but given their selection of things I really needed today, I don't see myself coming back here to take advantage of my membership. There really was no service. Didn't see any employees on the sales floor. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just pointing out a fact.

This is a review for our outstanding service that Brandon gave us today through the visit from the sport basement at Berkeley. He is one of the kindest crew during the multiple visits that we had from this location. He almost put 2 hrs to select , review , and guid us to choose a correct size for my snowboard , bonding and shoe. The value is great we had 40% off season discount , the board selection was vast and Brandon made the process easy. My husband wants new gear and bindings as well so we recommended this location to everyone Great experience and highly recommended

My boyfriend and I came here to rent e-bikes for our anniversary, and I had major deja-vu when I stepped in here. I was wondering why this Sports Basement seemed so familiar and soon realized that this used to be the old Iceland ice skating rink that I visited when I was a kid. No wonder this place is absolutely massive and still retains a few things back from its ice skating rink days! The wait time kind of takes a long time, especially on a Saturday when there are so many people coming to rent equipment for ski trips. But we got our ebikes, and they took the time to make sure that they worked for us and were properly fitted for our heights. It was so easy to rent and return! Boyfriend and I had a lot of fun biking around Berkeley for our anniversary and revisiting old haunts and exploring new places together.

He said they didn't have a sz 11 and after he checked nothing at all. He lied. And there was at least 6 more pair in the bin

The boats are maintained (and possibly built) by young people at Waterside Workshops and basic but sturdy. The hour rental ($40 total with life vests included) was plenty enough to row from one end of the lagoon to the other and back, with a quick snack break. We are not skilled rowers, and it was fine. I would check the schedule ahead of time, especially during the off season. We went late in the afternoon and were the only ones on the water. I was greeted, welcomed, and given the lay of the land of how this workshop works, by a bicycle volunteer. Biketopia is just what I need: Bike stands, coaching and the right tools. I paid for an annual membership - which is about what I could have spent at professional bicycle repair shop to accomplish what we got done and will do next time. I went to my car and brought in the Fuji endurance road bike, and was immediately to able to put it up on a free bike stand - so we could begin to see what was Up - and calling for attention. The volunteer - a veteran Berkeley cyclist - was friendly, observant and a very good coach: He observed and let me do - what I could do with relative ease - and he showed me how to do the Next Thing - right. He carefully checked the brakes, and showed me how to see exactly what was going on with the front brake . He knew how to do both the fine and gross adjustment of the brakes, and had the proper tools for each. And showed me how to adjust and fine tune the adjustment of my brakes, so I was able to do the work and have him check my adjustments. He heard and understood my report of some recent shifting issues and gear jumping. He checked and showed me how both derailleurs were shiifting and the simple adjustments we cojuld make. He offered to measure the wear of the chain. Since the chain was about 50% or 60% worn - I decided this would be a great time to replace it. The volunteer found exactly the right chain from their small inventory of new parts. He showed me how this chain's magic link worked, slighly different than the link on my current chain. Then how to install the new chain. He and i worked on the getting the derailleurs to shift just right. It took some skill I did not have - but soon I learned. Then he showed me how to check my rims for true - and how to adjust them - using their simple wheel truing apparatus and a spoke wrench and the right technique. I took good enough wheels and made them truer and better. We put the wheels back in and did a final adjustment on the brakes and derailleurs. Ready to ride for 50 mile runs - up and down the Berkeley hils - safely and smoothly. Next time I will work on improving the dish of my front wheel. This is a great place, if you want to learn how to take care of your bicycyle in a tightly packed community workshop.
