Great prices on tons of bags

There used to be a place on Market St in SF, way up by Zuni and Safeway, that sold all kinds of backcountry gear at ridiculously low prices: Young's on Telegraph is the East Bay's current manifestation of that SF windfall...albeit way smaller. Deep selection of Patagonia, Osprey, North Face, Marmot items at ridiculously low prices. I got an $80 pair of rain pants for under $50. Their Osprey packs are priced around $160 for a 50L bag...easily $40 less expensive than REI or SportsBasement. They have lots of gadgetry too...pocket knives, camping stoves, sunglasses, backcountry first aid supplies, rope, etc. No real shoe dept...which was why I went there...and yet I made other purchases that delighted me. Five stars for sleeping bags, backpacks and myriad little items at prices that deserve stars of their own.

My younger brother, coworker, and I went to young's to shop for backpacks for a trip we are taking in August. I had never been to the shop before, and was very pleased with their selection and amazing customer service! We each bought a backpack a piece and I got an arterex wind breaker as well. Prices were amazing and customer service was 10/10. I will never go to REI again for backpacking gear! Support a small local business and check this place out! I will be back thank you very much!

My original intention to visit this store was to find a replacement for my 4 year old North Face backpack. The back pad had worn out and damaged the back side of my clothes. I entered the store and the owner, a humble old Japanese Korean man, greeted me at the entrance. I explained my situation and instead of suggesting of buying a new pack, he suggested that I simply put duck tape to the worn pad. Later on, I noticed there were discounts on my favorite brand, Patagonia. I bought a Patagonia Synchilla sweater which was priced at $99, but the owner brought the price down to $75. What a deal! On top of that, the owner gave me a mountain ring ( not sure if it's called that) and a piece of duck tape to apply to the worn pad of my bag. This was hella cool. This was the kind of business that's dying out ,due to online shopping, that created a good relationship between a seller and buyer. Unfortunately the owner said he might close down due to the online shopping after 40 years of operating. Shop at this place!!

I came in needing a full "head-to-toe" setup for winter sports, and Brandon provided the kind of elite, professional service that is rare to find. His technical knowledge of snowboards, skis, and bindings is extensive; he doesn't just know the specs, he understands how the gear actually performs on the mountain. What really stood out, however, was his approach. He took the time to listen to my specific needs and concerns, making me feel both seen and heard throughout the process. I walked out (after 2.5 hours that flew by) not only with the right equipment but with the confidence I needed to get back out there. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, I'd recommend Brandon C. to anyone. He's a true professional who knows his craft inside and out. Thank you again Brandon C and SB and NIN.

The reality is that rude, dismissive customer service drives people away. Customers can tolerate mistakes. Customers can tolerate policy issues. What people do not tolerate is being treated as though they are an inconvenience when they walk into a store prepared to spend money. I spent nearly 50 minutes looking for replacement shoes after following the instructions given by your staff. I returned to the counter and was met with an attitude that made the entire experience feel unnecessarily unpleasant. That kind of interaction leaves a much bigger impression than any return policy ever could. You should seriously consider the long-term impact of allowing employees to interact with customers in this way. One negative interaction may seem small in the moment, but over time those experiences absolutely cost business. People remember how they were treated. I can say with certainty that experiences like this make customers question where they want to spend their money in the future. If I have to choose between dealing with rude and dismissive interactions versus shopping somewhere that values customer service and basic professionalism, the decision becomes very easy. I think your management team should understand that poor customer interactions do not simply create one unhappy customer -- they create people who share those experiences with family, friends, coworkers, and others making decisions about where to shop.

I've gotten accustomed to skiing in pain over my 40+ years of skiing, and previous boot fittings never quite yielded the results i wanted. I have odd shaped feet - like a cartoon duck. narrow in the back and wide and square at the toes. high volume boots never quite fit right as they would still be narrow at the toes, but then way too loose in the back with a lot of heel lift. thermal liners never seemed to solve any of my problems. punches seemed to help, but never remove the problem. enter Paul. this man is a gift sent from the goddess Skadi. He assured me my feet weren't that far out of band, and proceeded to tweak the best fitting boot i've ever used. I can go a full day charging with minimal discomfort. i dont have to undo the buckles every lift ride up. i wanted to wait out the season before i gave a review as I wanted to see how well the results held up over several days, but the 5 stars is well warranted. i've decided to try learning telemark this season, and finding any boot has been extremely difficult. there are not many models, and even fewer stock of said models, whether used or new. but once i find a boot, you can be sure i'll be bringing it to Paul (who claims to have never fitted a telemark boot, but i'm going to convince him to give it a go).
