24 2026...I'm a frequent shopper at this store and have always had a great experience. NOT TODAY. I had problems with 2 employees today and your response will determine if I continue to shop there. I needed a 2.5 barbell plate and pulled it off the rack with a sign clearly advertising $5.99. The plate does not have bar code on it. I bring it to the cashier (Keoni, according to the sales slip), and she looks it up in the computer and rings it at $48.99. I advise that the sign shows $5.99. She calls for assistant Manager, who takes the plate and I show her the sign. She tells me that she must "call corporate" to check price. I again point to the very clear sign showing 5.99. She disappears into an office with weight plate. Now, 2 other people are in front of me. While waiting, I see that on the computer screen is a TWENTY FIVE pound plate with the price showing $48.99. I advise Keoni that my plate is 2.5 pounds and she entered the wrong product in her look up. She does not apologize and I suggest that she go tell the asst manager of her error. She does not. Finally, a nice young man comes over to the front registers and I show him Keoni's error. She never admits she made a mistake. I show her on the plate where is clearly is stamped thart this is a 2.5 pound plate...and advise her that she did not enter the correct weight of the plate. She tells me to "quit whinning"..! Finally, the young man gets her to ring the item up at the correct price of 5.99 Several customer service failures: Keoni: entered the wrong item in the computer never admitted her error to the assistant manager Told me to "shop whinning" Never apologized to me Ass't Manager Knowing that Keoni is new, never verified that Keoni had entered the correct item in the look up Never looked up the item herself As we both were looking at the very clear sign showing the price, she should of "honored" the price show on the sign Went into the office and I never saw her again I want to talk (no voice mail) to the store manager...Please have him call me read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this store. It was packed with merchandise which is impossible to find in our inflation nation anymore. The shoe staff were incredibly helpful and they had everything I needed at a good price. Much better than going to Amazon and having to guess how items will fit. Best Big 5 I have been to. read more

The fact that there are no bathrooms for the customers in the store is a huge no. My husband and I have spent money there over the last several years purchasing gear for our kids for football and/or soccer. We like the selection, but today, I literally ended up peeing my pants a bit because I couldn't hold it and one of the two employees there wouldn't let me use their bathroom. That is disgusting. It's a location not inside a mall where one can go to a public bathroom. I understand not letting someone off the street use it but I was there to purchase a few things except couldn't focus when my mind was on "I need to use the bathroom." Unacceptable. I placed my items down on my way out. Rude customer service lacking empathy. Zero stars isn't an option so it's the only reason why I'm giving it one star. read more

Poor customer service. The cashier there was nice but the manager was not too good. I ask for a Nevada Fishing license and the manager was there. He first asked me if I ever had a Nevada fishing license before and I told him that I had a California one, he asked me again in a bad mood the same question again. The he asked for my social security card( in a rude mode), then I told him that I had a nevada driver license and he asked me again for a social security card on a bad mood again. I just kept walking and ignored him. As I was walking he was still throwing words at me as that Nevada was very different from California. Bad way of a manager to show workers how to deal with customers. BTW, I just went to Walmart to get it, and it was alot easier than with this guys. read more

Poor poor customer service, won't return! The store put out product with the wrong prices and refused to honor it, I work in retail for a long time and I know that if the store prices something wrong they are required I honor it, the store manager refused to do so and just stood there and wouldn't say anything. Absolutely unacceptable customer service!!! read more

This store is generally cheaper than the other options in Carson for specific things. We were there to let the 11 yr old spend his birthday money. He's obsessed with soccer. He got a kick trainer for his birthday and it broke on the first day. The salesman that was sorta hovering and eavesdropping - popped out when we discussed the kick trainer and said "We don't have much soccer stuff. All there is are soccer balls." Then, to my shock, he recommended the competitor in town. Weird. So we went to the soccer section and whaddya know, kick trainer is there (along with many other options for a soccer kid). Before we found it another sales associate came over and said that there is "nothing really for soccer. We are out of shin guards and there's only a few balls. While he discouraged us from looking - I found it!! Wow. The inventory was pretty light, but not as light as the associates thought it was I guess. We asked about a couple of other things (I know what you are thinking - WHY?) in hopes that we would save time without searching. Sales Associate #1 told us they "haven't had live bait in months. I can't even remember the last time we did." Again, he recommended Sportsman's Warehouse. The only reason we would come back here is that they are priced below many other places. He did get most of what we came for - but not because of the employees. We'd have bought everything elsewhere if we had listened to them. Not a huge deal but hygiene was a definite challenge for Associate #1 as well. It was off putting when he smiled. read more

There's plenty of parking. It's also bigger than most of the Big 5's. The prices are reasonable and everyone was friendly. The women's snow gear was a lot smaller than the men and children. But it is just the beginning and they should get more. read more

My husband and I were skeptical about coming to big 5 sporting goods. We've always been under the impression that they were highly priced. We were wrong and now wished we came to visit them a long time ago. They had everything we were looking for for our snow play day and our skiing adventure. My daughter even found a nice pair of Nike shoes for under $50! All of the employees here were very helpful and so willing to go out of their way to help look for our sizes. We left with satisfaction and are adding another must stop shopping store to our list when we vacation in the mainland. read more

Best store for the whole family of toys. Best camping gear and fishing stuff. Kinda of stuff you need to live with to survive. This big 5 is the very best. Southgate is a very easy spot. Carson City is fun. read more

I used to go to Big5 in a couple other cities I have lived in and they were petty good. Carson City store should just close. Went in for a pair of decent casual shoes today. 2 sales reps were just hanging out chatting with each other. Neither greeted me or asked to be of assistance. After about 10 minutes I found a pair I wanted. I approached the pair of dweebs who still hadn't said a word to me and showed the display shoe and asked for my size. One of the shaved apes looked at a shelf with the brand I wanted and said "We dont have your size." That was it. No "sorry", no " let s see if another store has it and we can get it for you"... nothing. And without any further sound uttered from the missing link, he went right back to his other store employee undoubtedly to grunt about their discovery of fire. Not ever going back. Oh, I found my shoes at another local store for less and with a buy one get one half off. read more

I have never encountered more incompetent and useless salespeople in my life. The 3 of them there today must share a single brain cell.

They keep this place pretty stocked but boy are they really expensive. All the sizes seemed to be extra small to large but nothing in extra large. When it came to snow gear I think they had left up the prices to as much as $80 for some snow pants which h were outrageous to me but I don't buy a lot of snow gear so maybe that's the going price. My boots seemed pretty expensive too but they worked really well and I can see myself wearing them for years to come. Next time I will come to the snow more prepared so I don't get blasted like this again because they saw me coming from a mile away. read more

I can't believe I'm about to give Big 5 a terrible review! No, really I am. I've been going to Big 5 for my sporting good needs since I was a child and the one thing that Big 5 is great for is it's cheap, quality sports equipment. So please know that I love this company in that respect, but lately it's become impossible for me to shop here due to the TERRIBLE employees. And I mean TERRIBLE. The first trip I made in about a month ago when I bought some MMA gear. Asking for some quick assistance was like asking the girl for the cure to the common cold: impossible and highly inappropriate. OMG. So okay, I brushed it off, bought my merchandise, and scooted out of there with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. But hey, maybe this young girl just wasn't having a good day, maybe she just hated her job, or maybe she just had no clue what it meant to provide kind customer service. Who the heck knows! A month later I decided I didn't really need the MMA gloves and made my way into Big 5 to make my return. I walked straight through the doors and was immediately greeted with a very monotoned, "Hi" from a girl standing by the checkout. I walked a couple steps forward to the register area expecting her to come assist me, instead she continued standing against the checkout like moving was some horrible disease she was desperately trying to avoid. Then she said, in the snottiest voice I've heard since high school, "I'm over HERE." OH MY GOD. WTH. I was so pissed! I almost spoke up right in front of her manager, but since this was the second girl that was so unbelievably rude, I sort of assumed that was the kind of employee he --liked-- to hire! Honestly, I'm glad I ended up returning my MMA gloves because it doesn't make me all cozy inside to know that my money is going to a store that doesn't even know the first thing about deserving business (customers). So F* that. I won't be shopping here anymore. Seriously, I will go to the Reno or Minden store just to make a point. And that's my advice, GO ELSEWHERE. Especially if you want your money to be in support of something good. Support stores that deserve to stay open, that hire and pay for good employees, that only need to say a warm hello and a kind "oh, I'm actually over here." Would that be SO hard?! read more

Staff was very rude and did not want to help us get a size for some soccer cleats for our daughter. Employee said he would look for the size and never came back. My husband found him and asked if they had the size and he said no even though he never even went to look. We saw another employee walk by and we asked about a price for a shoe and she was very rude and rolled her eyes as she walked away like we were dumb. No wonder they are hiring for a manager. Someone needs to control these people. read more
