My husband and I went to the Spotted Deer Cafe in beautiful, rural Fair Oaks, not far off from I-10, on a Friday afternoon around 4:20. Unfortunately, the times listed on their Yelp business page were incorrect, and we were 20 minutes late getting there. I see that since we visited, the Yelp! site has been updated with the correct business hours. So we made another trip on Saturday afternoon for a couple of cups of coffee and some sweet treats. My husband had a peppermint mocha cappuccino, and I had a mocha cappuccino. They were tasty cups of coffee but not very hot. My husband had a coffee cake muffin, and I had one of their mixed berry pop tarts. I really enjoyed the pop tart. I thought maybe this was a new business, but when I asked how long they had been open, the young gentleman behind the counter said they had been open for 4 1/2 years. The strip mall where this quaint little shop is open is beautifully set in Fair Oaks. It was clean and inviting, and the baristas were nice. What a nice, relaxing, coffee shop "away from the fray." This sweet spot was "discovered" through the Yelp Elite event and when I saw it was essentially across the freeway from where I live, I got excited! Spotted Deer Coffee Company is tucked away in Fair Oaks - the corner store in a cute little "plaza" of 3 other small shops (will have to come back to the ice cream shop at the end!). When we came in, the sweet barista greeted me and my little one (she's 2.5yo and insisted on riding in Mama's car to go to the store, lol). They had a lovely menu, but I went with my tried and true, chai tea latte with nonfat milk The barista recommended a hot chocolate with whip cream for my little lady - who was immediately on board I caught site of the most epic looking pop tart I'd ever seen - and had to have it! However, their gooey cinnamon roll looked delicious too - so I'll be back to try that one next time. After we paid, we went an sat at one of the tables and my girl spotted a nice little shelf of kiddie books across the shop. How perfect!! A Mickey and Minnie book was immediately brought back to the table and we "read" until our drinks came. The chai tea was good, but I tend to like my creamier - and not as "spicy." Nonetheless, I sucked it down happily My little one loved her hot chocolate - and because she couldn't finish it (she never finishes her drink), I got to sample that as well - soooo very good! If I come back, I'm definitely going to get that with some biscotti cookies...mmmmmm. I have to say, the giant pop tart definitely looked better than it tasted. The actual dough/crust was rather bland - even with the frosting and sprinkles on it. It probably could've used some more butter in it The mixed berry center was fantastic though! I won't be getting it again, but I'm glad I tried it!! Cozy coffee spot in a residential area of Fair Oaks ranch. They were pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. I saw someone who must've been a regular walk in and immediately walk put with two cups of coffee so he must've called his order in - very nice. The place is small but there is lots of seating, including outside on a day that isn't wet and cold. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I will occasionally partake, especially in cold weather. I liked that it was served not extremely hot to the point where I needed to wait 10 minutes for it to cool down. I had a Cafe au Lait with raspberry syrup. My husband had a cold brew. What we liked best was the cinnamon roll, served warm. Unfortunately this place isn't in our neck of the woods so it isn't likely we'll come again but I did enjoy visiting! read more

I don't say this lightly, but the pumpkin spice dirty chai here is potentially the best "coffee" I've ever had. I was in the area for work and needed a pick me up so decided to try spotted deer coffee. I walked in and asked the barista what she recommended from the seasonal drink menu. She advised me that they make their own pumpkin spice, so she recommended either a PSL, or a dirty chai with pumpkin. I opted for the dirty chai and man I'm glad I did. The first sip tasted like a dessert, with the familiar espresso pick me up I needed. I was torn between wanting to chug my drink or to savor it. Seriously so, so good. I also ordered a bacon egg and cheese bagel. They offer everything, Asiago, plain, or cinnamon raisin bagels. The sandwich was pretty solid, and I appreciate a coffee shop that offers some protein offerings well. The inside was cute and cozy, and they offer outside seating as well. Nastiest matcha ever like i live close by and i ran out of matcha in my own house so i walked out to buy a strawberry matcha latte here. Omgg girl i was so disappointed bc first of all it was a very light green color, didnt have a matcha taste. The two lattes I've had there were decent, as well the kolache my husband and I tried. I spied some other customers enjoying some sandwiches that looked pretty tasty too, so I definitely want to come back and sample more of their menu. They have quite a few breakfast and lunch items. I've been trying to find some good espresso beans from a local coffee shop for a good pull from my machine. Every other place I've tried, I feel like I either get old beans or beans that just don't keep well and don't result in that beautiful crema that you desire in an espresso. At first I thought maybe it was user error on my part as I am no coffee expert, but after failure time and time again, I decided to try the beans from the spotted dear! No pictures this time but I tried the Lavender Matcha iced tea and I'm learning to like matcha so I'm not a fair judge but the lavender did add a nice sweet flavor to it. The drive to get there was lovely, the decor was lovely, the staff was lovely, the smells were lovely, the menu was lovely, the food was lovely, the drink were lovely... everything was lovely! The young woman behind the counter was... you guessed it... lovely! She was very helpful and bubbly and friendly and really knew her stuff. Spotted Dear CC was always on my "I'll eventually get to this when I have a day off" list because it's all the way in Fair Oaks Ranch. Well, last night they slid into my DM's on instagram and invited me over to hang out. Since today is a holiday, I took them up on their offer and made the 10+ mile drive. Worth it. First off the area is gorgeous, so you're in for a sight seeing trip just getting there. Second, it's nestled in a shopping center that looks like is just kinda dropped in a residential area. Very quiet, very low key. The interior is lovely, with perfectly written menus hanging with a variety of coffees, teas, and lemonades for sale, including other options like CBD, flavors, and milk substitutes (a large selection of them, probably the most alternative milks I've seen offered at any place) Gabby, the owner, instantly knew who I was when I walked in (I felt so special!) and I ordered a noisette (the French version of a cortado, ty coffee wikipedia for informing me) and a blueberry scone. Spotted Deer makes their pastries fresh in-house and you can taste it. The scone was super fluffy and soft (I'm used to scones being akin to rocks!) but this was just . . . warm and gooey with blueberry goodness. The noisette had the right amount of bite. The milk definitely cut some of the bitterness and acidity, making every sip super pleasing. I sat and admired the shop for a bit before ordering some stuff to-go. I got a taro milk tea (blended, Gabby's suggestion) and it's really sweet in a milkshake way! I also got a bag of Colombian coffee, which she happily ground for me--gotta take care of my coffee club at work--and finally, a butter pecan cookie. The pecan part reminded me of Mexican Wedding Cookies, but these are big and the frosting is still soft and squishy, it doesn't harden like royal icing. Meaning it gets all over your fingers in the best way. I'm so glad Gabby invited me over to sample some of Spotted Deer's menu, and it's definitely worth setting aside some special time to make the trip. However, if this is your neighborhood/stomping ground, I genuinely hope this is a regular spot on your coffee rotation, cause it's amazing. read more

This place was so freaking good that we had to come back for more. Every single bakery item we've had: muffins, scones, etc are INSANELY good! It's a bit of a drive for us to get here but man, it's worth every single minute and every penny of gas to get here.
