Bucky and I made the drive to the HEB Plus and found the truck. Interestingly enough, they operate kinda like a drive-thru, but they accept walk-ups, too. Immediately after I pulled up, they saw Bucky and offered him a pup cup. I didn't even have to ask! The cooed and fawned over him as they saw him enjoy it in my back seat. For myself, I got the cortado and I asked for a recommendation. She suggested a Tres Leches cold brew with cinnamon. Right on - I went ahead and ordered it. The cortado was ver nice, with minimal paper cup flavor. It was smooth with a roasted flavor, and a nice, creamy viscosity. A pretty good, respectable cortado. The Tres Leches cold brew reminds me of merienda with my family in Brownsville, despite us usually not having cold coffee - haha. But the flavors were delicious. The coffee was strong, but still had that "flavored latte" taste I tend to enjoy on a hot day. That tres leches foam is truly a delight. If I lived closer, I'd probably be here every day they're open. However, now that I know that they're really good, I may have to make some frequent stops.

I brought Bucky with me, too, and he was a popular little man. Apparently they have specials whenever the Spurs win a playoff game, hence the extra long lines that day. That's super cool that they support our team and show such local pride that way! Anyhoodle, instead of ordering a cortado and a signature latte, I decided to just order the peanut butter mocha with banana cold foam. What a dream. If you're into decadent coffee drinks that are more like desserts/treats, you need to try this version of a chunky monkey. As always, the staff are some of the nicest people you'll ever come across. They're good folks who make good coffee - what more can you ask for?

Staff seemed a little confused by my coffee order and the drink was just okay - they did not really have any particular seasonal menu or standout flavors, very basic coffees and not well made. I would say coffee is NOT the highlight here. But my daughter loved her pan dulce and it seemed decently fresh. Their cooked food, breakfast plates, and churros seem to be the main draw here. I was genuinely surprised how many people were inside first thing in the morning, eating churros. I might go back to try those but I will get my coffee fix elsewhere. I was so pleased to see many people stop by to celebrate with them. The trailer is so cute. Their whole aesthetic is so nostalgic. They have a red retro fridge in the trailer and their merch gives high school varsity vibes. They sell shirts, sweaters, stickers, etc, and of course, their coffee and matcha. Most trailers and trucks will serve your drink in a to-go cup but when I ordered my cortado they offered to serve it in a ceramic cup! How cool is that? It made my experience much more enjoyable, because cortados tend to pick up that paper cup flavor. Their espresso-based drinks are as delicious as I remember, and I also ordered an iced Pooh Bear. It's just as tasty iced as it is hot. I can't wait for Calico Coffee to thrive in their new location. If this is around your stomping grounds, do yourself a favor and come visit. I had arrived a little after they opened, and right away there was already a respectable line. Right Hand Coffee appears to be a favorite among the college crowd. I think I was the oldest person there, including the folks running the truck. Due to the line there was a bit of a wait but it wasn't terrible. They have two tent-like covers and two sets of tables and chairs, and even though the tents didn't provide shade, the shadows they cast did, keeping my pup and I cool. I ordered the cortado, a PBJ Latte (an August special), and a pup cup. The cortado was very good. It didn't have that paper cup flavor, By the time I brought it home, it had fully combined, so there was no foam to sip through, which made me happy. It was a very smooth, mild cortado. The PBJ latte was very good, and I hope that ends up a permanent menu item because I would absolutely make the trip back just for it. The coffee itself had peanut butter flavor, and the cold foam had a raspberry jam flavor. Mix them together and it reminds me of my favorite after school snack with a glass of milk. The logo is also cute - a greyhound is a nice mascot (though perhaps not quite as indicative as to how fast they get drinks out... but again, the lines are a testament to how good their drinks are). I hope I can make the time to swing by again during August. I'll be dreaming of that PBJ latte.
