My group of 10 was visiting Austin for work. Our employer advised us to travel as economical as possible. We had a tight budget so my colleague selected Spring Hill Suites for our 3 night stay. GOOD: Part of the Marriott conglomerate for points, offers corporate/government discounts, convenient location (right on IH-35) , free breakfast BAD: Lax security protocols, only 1 of the 2 main lobby elevators worked, dated rooms, poor ventilation inside rooms (had an odor), my team (assigned rooms) was spread across 4 floors (we wanted the same floor), & no extra towels provided UGLY: Bad thick oatmeal, watery coffee, lobby dispenser water was nasty, & hotel didn't provide bottled water for elite members So, if cost is the most important consideration, stay here. It should fit your budget. If other factors matter, think long & hard about it. read more

I had an excellent 2 night stay at the SpringHill. When checking in, the supervising manager, Brianna, was so quick, friendly, and even got me a higher floor room! I couldn't have asked for a better check in process. The hotel is clean, clean sheets, room, shower etc. Very pleased with my accommodations & the service provided. Breakfast is great -- hot eggs, protein, & then the usual buffet bkfast you'd find at a hotel. Might not be a win for most but having Oatmilk as an option for my coffee is always so appreciated and under valued so thanks for having that out Will 100% stay here again on my next business trip to Austin! read more

Checking in was a Breeze ( I had called multiple times prior to this trip to line everything out) feather free pillows because of down allergies in the family. This hotel got it right. The warm reception from Jae had me feeling like VIP!!! Thank you for that Mr. Jae (Should be commended by upper management) (+1star) The room upon arrival smelled clean and IS clean. We had a short stay here to visit friends. The layout of the double full suite was great. (+1 star) The pool was colder [not heated but indoor] and the girls at least got to try it out. (They stayed in a mere 90 seconds) I thought I read it was heated... There was a birthday celebration next door to our room and the front desk staff attempted to keep them quiet after 10pm... however I had to send a message through the app 45 mins after initial warning. I know they can't control all noises but after failed attempts to get my toddlers in bed and to stay asleep through the cheers and screams from next door... I made another message with a Stern tone. The front desk staff had a talk with me the next morning and we reached a resolution that I was satisfied with. (-1/+1 star) Breakfast was pretty goodespecially with covid-19 protocols around. [Eggs, sausage, muffins, waffles, cold cereal, oatmeal, yogurt] The food/cleaning/maintenance staff all very friendly and accommodating (+2 stars) This hotel location is easy to find and surrounding area has quite a few food/entertainment options within a short drive away. If I could give a negative star I would. Arrived for a work trip. Walking in, the over saturation of air freshener tells me the place is filthy. I get my room in 202. I enter and there is a baby crib still in the room, white stuff/stains all over a silver picture frame on the wall there is a message from the housekeeper Rasa asking for a tip. Naturally the room is filthy and the carpet has large stains. A tip??? We go to room 211 which has a horrible stench upon entering. It's dark and dirty. The carpet is torn up and the bed smells musky. We go to room 111 which is by far the worst. I wouldn't take my shoes off it was filthy like a ghetto motel 6 or super 8. This is Marriott?!?! So, I sit down at the desk and panic because I am not getting in that bed. The room is hot and the thermostat says 75. The guy at desk is inconvenienced that I'm saying the AC is broken. Two maintenance men come to my room and try to fix it. They tell me the thermostat is broken and begin to dismantle the wall unit putting the parts on my bed. They say it's fixed but it's not. They leave their tools (flashlight) behind. There. I were else for me to go and I can't stay. It's substandard. I grab my luggage and leave. No apology form the guy at the desk. He thinks I should spend a week in a hot room, sweating, and I won't walk barefoot on that carpet with stains. Goodbye!! I left. This "motel" should be ashamed. Poor management. Hands down one of the worst stays ever! No wonder the recent reviews are echoing the same. Management is responding with same robotic, cooked up replies to the reviews. Good: None, Ziltch Bad: Room wasn't ready by 3pm check in time. We had to wait 20 mins to check in. Breakfast was meh! Worse: TV doesn't work They dont provide extra towels upon request even though our reservation was for more than 3 people. Adequate budget hotel in a really expensive city! Everyone knows austin has grown to be one of the most unaffordable (yet very entertaining) destinations. So finding an affordable hotel short 10-15 min drive from the action of downtown Austin is difficult. Luckily, this place suits the bill. Located right off I-35, next to a number of other hotels, this is definitely an older property. However, plenty of parking and accessibility makes it super convenient. Even better, the staff has always been very friendly and welcoming, especially in the wee hours of night. Rooms are old, but spacious enough (small sitting room / work desk and TV, plus a tiny bedroom. Adequately sized shower. AC works well. Bed is comfortable enough. And furniture, though old, is still sturdy enough to be used without causing back pain. Wifi never had an issue, speedy enough. It's never been too noisy, and the blinds definitely keep out the light. Overall, recommended budget stay. read more

Wish there was a zero star option. Booked a 4 night stay and am now checking out early due to the live roaches in my room. Night audit worker was a gem and helped with my rebooking. Day manger, Justine, was flippant, cold and dismissive, at best. As a lifetime platinum bonvoy member, I expect better behavior from hospitality companies. Infuriating experience. So frustrating that after years of BonVoy Gold Elite membership I am done. I will never stay at another Marriott property. Was the room nice? Was the staff friendly? How about the complimentary breakfast? I wouldn't know because my "non cancelable, non-changeable" reservation was canceled. Twice. A month after booking this hotel for a two night stay I received an email from a John Yazbeck, director of sales and marketing, Marriott Collection of South Austin, telling me he was sorry, but the weekend I had booked coincided with a local Formula 1 event and he would not be able to honor my reservation. Rest assured, John was sorry and even thanked me in advance for understanding. The problem is I don't understand. I let John know this was unacceptable. John let me know he understood my frustration, but nothing could be done unless I wanted to book a third night and pay a much higher rate. I was not interested in this solution. I contacted BonVoy and explained the situation. They opened a case, gave me a number and told me I'd be contacted in 4-5 days. After ten days I was still waiting and I called BonVoy. This time I was moved up the chain and spoke with a very nice man from Senior Elite Services, who agreed, canceling a "non cancelable" reservation is bad business! He put me on hold while he contacted the hotel. A few minutes later he informed me that the hotel told him several reservations had been canceled and they were getting lots of complaints. I don't doubt it! He also told me they would be honoring the reservation. He tried. Two days later the reservation was canceled again. Back to BonVoy. Not much help this time. We frequently stay at Marriott hotels but this one is not worth the visit. The staff at the desk was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean, which is why they have 2 stars. However, the picture on the wall was falling off and was secured by double sided tape (see photo). The fixtures in the shower were falling off as well (see photo). The breakfast was GROSS!!! The milk in the fridge was half frozen so only my hubby was able to have cereal. The eggs and sausage were getting cold. Breakfast was supposed to go until 9, it was only 8:15. Most Marriotts have cheese and salsa for the eggs, they did not. The only fruit was unripe orange and a few old apples. No yogurt either, oatmeal, waffles, or hard boiled eggs either. They had a few bagles and muffins left but the muffin was dried out too. So I had coffee for breakfast. read more

I found this hotel to be perfectly fine, even though some of the Yelp reviews had me leery. But beggars can't be choosers when most of Austin was booked solid (for FunFunFunFest). I was in town for a friend's bday party. I arrived just around 3pm and checked in with in minutes. The girl working the front desk was very nice. The room was perfect. It had a little living room area and kitchen-ish type area. I didn't use any of it, but was nice to have. The bedroom and bathroom area were pretty standard for a hotel. The bed was pretty comfy, though. I had trouble getting up in the morning. Much to my surprise there was a jacuzzi in my room. I wasn't going to use it, but hey, when do you get to chill out in a jacuzzi?! I checked out around 11 so missed the free breakfast, but there was to go coffee in the lobby that I helped myself to. Fairly good stay. Didn't care for the layout of the room, especially the television. It swivels to watch from the bed or from the couch but if it's swiveled to watch from the couch then it makes it hard for someone to walk by from the kitchen/work/couch area, by the corner of the bed, to the bathroom and vice versa. I found the hotel serviceable and the staff friendly when they greeted you when you walk through the lobby. Overall a good solid hotel experience, service with a smile. I liked it until I observed my bill after checking out, there's a "State Cost - Recovery Fee" of some 70-80 cents per night you stay. It's not a tax, and it's not related to the room charge. I called the front desk and asked a lady named Cathleen to remove the fee for each night I stayed as a courtesy, as I read on a previous review and was told that it's a mandatory fee that I have to pay. Cathleen stated that there's a sign at the front desk stating this and it's in the bottom paragraph of my paper bill. I don't agree with the customers footing the bill to pay a Hotel Franchise Tax that the hotel incurs courtesy of the state of Texas. I called corporate who stood by Cathleen's stance. She was not rude about it, but again as a courtesy to us don't sneak in fees that nickle and dime the customer any further. Room 604 The staff is super nice. I chatted with Foteini through chat on the app asking for a couple bags of popcorn and extra shampoo and conditioner to be left in the room, and they were in the room neatly displayed and easily found. Our profile always asks for extra pillows and towels and feather free room. And although we got the popcorn and shampoo /conditioner, we did not get the extra towels or extra pillows. I caught housekeeping in the hall the next morning and she was extremely friendly and helpful, and even held the elevator for us. We let her know we did not need service but we did need the extra pillows and she said she'd put them on the couch inside the door. When we got back to the room, we realized they still were not there so I had to call down to the front desk and ask again. The air conditioner in the room works great, no complaints there (and I like it freezing cold). I think my only complaint for this room is the bed. It did not feel like the soft and comforting pillow top that I'm used too. It took awhile to fall asleep and still woke up with a sore neck. read more

1st time in Austin. Priceline hooked me up again. The location was perfect. It was just outside of Houston between the airport and downtown. The hotel offers a shuttle service to downtown which was very convenient. However, the scheduling and the request process for the shuttle is a little confusing. I experience no issues, but then, I was pretty persistent. To experience more of the city, you'll need a car. Heck, TX is a driving state. I digress. BTW, the staff was pretty helpful. The room was nice albeit a little stinky (thus the 3 instead of the 4 star). I could've move, but apparently, it didn't bother me that much or I was just out the whole time ;-) The breakfast was ok and they do offer fruit, The pool was a great feature since Austin does get hot. This location is easy to get to off the freeway and well maintained. I have been here a few times on the weekends and the service/rooms have always been stellar. I will say that the weekends seems to have a great deal of spots teams staying here. Baseball or softball. The breakfast is always few of kids in uniform. This was the worst stay in a hotel property I have ever experienced in 35 years. While loyal to Bonvoy for work travel, the quality of the SpringHill Suites Austin South property and service was simply unacceptable: 1) had multiple live crickets in the room, which I was told is "normal" and not a reason to change rooms as it's their migration path and they live in the walls 2) Had a live cockroach in the room, which we were told we were wrong that it was prob. just a cricket despite killing it and flushing it down the toilet 3) There were stains everyone (walls, bathroom, couch, sheets) to which I was told the cleaning staff does a great job 4) the hotel offered to refund the stay, but did not do so. I talked to Bonvoy who opened a case #401672753 and the hotel apparently closed the case without a reason. I have spoken to at least 4-5 staff at the property who say they do not shoulder the responsibility. Management is never in and has not returned phone calls. This has driven me to post a public review for the first time in hopes that others don't have a similar experience and that this hotel can resolve the issues with this dilapidated, dirty, and inhospitable property. read more

It was pretty average. The front desk staff was very nice, but that is counterbalanced with an ant/spider problem on the first floor. When I mentioned it to the front desk they offered to have it taken care of immediately. That was nice, but I was kind of expecting to be compensated on the bill. The breakfast was the most shocking this at this place. It was packed every morning. Packed. I uploaded a pic. Breakfast wasn't anything special. I did find out that there was a baseball team staying there, so maybe it was just them and all their families. Oh, one other thing that was weird. The cleaning crew took everything on our beds and threw it in a pile into the closet. My friend was freaking out because he thought he lost his new earbuds. But the weirder thing is that only happened one day. Every other day, they kindly put everything back onto the made beds. But when I was there, none of these things were infuriating. This hotel is not one we'd return to. The price was good and the staff was polite; however, our room was not cleaned once during our three day stay. Whenever we mentioned it, staff was apologetic and said they would take care of it. However, no one ever followed through. The towels seemed old and thin, but the bed was comfortable. My husband and I stayed here last weekend when he returned to Austin for work, and I don't have too many complaints. But I do have them... Maybe Marriott is starting to fail me, but this SpringHill Suites wasn't very clean, and the layout of the room we stayed in, which was a King Suite, was very odd. I bumped into the corner of the bed every time I needed to enter the bathroom. Just odd that the TV is in the middle of the room and it swiveled to either side of the room, but you can't really see it from the bed. I've really never seen a room laid out that way, but it wasn't too terrible. The hotel staff on Saturday during check-in was kind and knowledgeable. However, checking out was incredibly disappointing. My husband and I checked out around 10am and we stood in front of the front desk for about 10 minutes or so, along with other guests trying to leave. The staff placed a sign on the desk saying "sorry for the inconvenience" blah blah, saying they stepped away. My husband knocked on the door behind the desk to see if anyone could assist us with checking out and no kidding, someone stepped out a second later asking what we needed. Are you kidding? The woman next to me chewed out the front desk associate, but she replied "I'm sorry you feel that way". Oh, okay. Probably the rudest response I've ever seen exchanged. It's the hotels responsibility to take care of the guest, not make them feel terrible for trying to check out on a Sunday morning. I suppose the most frustrating part of this issue was the amount of people sitting in the lobby waiting to check out and the fact that every table was full in the breakfast area. This was where we stayed when we were avoiding the direct impact of Hurricane Harvey's landfall, and I was glad that we chose this hotel because of its comfortable room, friendly staff, and reliable amenities. Although the room was a bit smaller than the other SpringHill Suites that I stayed, it was nonetheless comfortable! The soft and the bed were great, the room layout was somewhat awkward but still spacious, and the room itself was immaculately clean and felt new. Free Wi-Fi also worked reliably like charm (Faster than my home's sometimes!). The included breakfast selection was large too! Booking was easy. Rooms were spacious and clean. Not a far drive towards downtown Austin. It can get very crowded on the weekends. The continental breakfast area was crowded and there was a mess everywhere. It was so crowded with no chairs that we had to sit in the lobby which the staff accommodated to, knowing it gets busy like this on weekends. Food was ok nothing too fancy. Come early for breakfast and not between rush hour of 9 to 10 am. Crowdedness also applies to parking especially if you arrive there later at night on a Saturday. Just stayed here over the past weekend. Accidentally left behind kids sound machine. Said they would check, which I'm 100% certain it was left behind in the room, and call us back. No response. They haven't answered their phones in the last 24 hours. Can't get ahold of any employee or front desk manager. Have to assume that either their staff is lazy or their cleaning crew are thieves. Next step will be a complaint to Marriott headquarters. I'm here on business and decided to stay outside of downtown Austin to save a little money. The hotel is quite nice, very clean both in the lobby and my room. With it being a suite there's nice space to be comfortable with a full couch and little kitchenette, a good sized desk to work at and the king bed was very comfortable. The breakfast that is included in the cost was your average hotel breakfast. Nothing to get overly excited about but definitely filled in just fine. The one thing to note is it is right off of a highway so there isn't anything around walking distance wise. There's a full service Marriott across the parking lot so if you wanted to grab a meal or go to the bar there you have that option. read more

Hotel is overpriced for the lack of quality and amenities. The "suite" is poorly laid out and space is cramped. The beds are tiny! Unable to navigate through room when fold out bed is made. TV is maybe 24 inches to accommodate both sides of the suite; way too small. 2 of 3 washing machines were out of order. Limited dining options within walking distance. The free breakfast did not start until 7am on the weekend, which most people who are in town for activities are likely gone by then. Very disappointed overall for the price we paid. read more

Called to speak with a representative last night because of an emergency had to cancel my flight and trip to Austin. Rep was not accommodating at all and did not try to help me. Instead of doing what's right in customer service & refunding my night, she rudely said, I'm not sure what you want, you're going to be charged, you have no choice. I was on a field trip with two high school students, so the idea of a hotel that provided breakfast and had kitchens in the rooms sounded faaantastic - less trips out in to the real world is a wonderful thing, especially when our schedule was wake up at 5am and get back to the hotel around midnight. As you read this review remember, I was hanging out with teenagers for 5 days, so maybe my grumpiness is colored by the situation at large. Alas, the promise of a kitchen turned into a reality of a mini-fridge that took 3 days to cool my jug of tea, silverware that was actually two plastic plates and two to-go sets of plastic ware, and a tiny sink with no dish soap. This was particularly problematic, as there were no bowls so I had to heat up my oatmeal in a coffee mug which then exploded in the microwave... Why was I heating up oatmeal, you ask? Wasn't there free breakfast?, you point out. Yes, but not until 6:30am. So breakfast ended up being a daily adventure anyway. The room was clean enough, the bed and pillows comfortable enough, and the walls, while not sound proof, weren't paper thin. Would I stay there again? Worst service i have ever received in a customer service industry. I was told i did not need a card on file by the hotel, then i drive all the way from north Dallas for a wedding and arrive at 1130 pm and am told my reservation that i made WEEKS IN ADVANCE was canceled, due to no card on file. I HAD NO PHONE CALL to warn OR I WOULD HAVE PUT MY CARD ON FILE RIGHT THEN AS TO I WAS DRIVING FROM DALLAS FOR A WEDDING I WAS IN! They merely wanted to rent the room out at a higher rate for an event that was going on that weekend and didn't care about anything other than making an extra buck. If you're looking for someone to actually care about what their job is centered around (good customer service) don't come here. For the price that I paid for one night, this expirence was above and beyond. The staff was super friendly upon check in and the room was giant and extremely clean. They have an indoor pool and pretty sizable workout room and a stellar continental breakfast. I wouldn't even call this continental, I'd call it breakfast. Check out Priceline Negotiator and you might be able to score a room here for a very good rate. I paid the same amount to stay at another flea bag motel down the highway from here. We stayed here for a few nights for my sister-in-law's wedding. It was filled with other wedding parties, so maybe that is a niche market for this hotel, or maybe they have some wedding coordinators on their payroll. The rooms were quite expensive for what they were, but a little better with the wedding party discount. The room itself was just OK. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was good sized. The vanity and sink combo, however, was quite small and crowded. There was not a ton of room to navigate around the bed. There was a bar area with a small fridge, but no freezer. They offered a hot breakfast in the morning with TX shaped waffles, oatmeal, disks of "egg" and sausage and some baked goods. The dining area was way too small for the size of the hotel and every day people were spilling out into the lobby with their plates or giving up and going back to their rooms. The overnight desk was poorly staffed. We had to call several times before someone even answered. When she finally did, she was obviously put-out by having to talk to us, and was rather curt when we asked if we could have an early check-in since we made better time from Phoenix than we had thought we would. Rough night. As others have pointed out their walls are paper thin. I unfortunately also was facing the highway which made for a restless night. My recommendation would be to ask for a room away from the highway preferably at the end of the hallway to avoid noise from your neighbors. Good luck! read more

My husband had to travel to Austin on our anniversary. We were sad to have to be apart that night. I called the hotel and asked them to put a nice amenity in his room for him. They asked me my name and how long we have been married. They were so nice and sent the nicest note to his room with a plate of cookies & milk.
