Live roach in room
Derek E.

Wish there was a zero star option. Booked a 4 night stay and am now checking out early due to the live roaches in my room. Night audit worker was a gem and helped with my rebooking. Day manger, Justine, was flippant, cold and dismissive, at best. As a lifetime platinum bonvoy member, I expect better behavior from hospitality companies. I guess roaches are accompanied with bad attitudes at this Marriott location.

We frequently stay at Marriott hotels but this one is not worth the visit. The staff at the desk was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean, which is why they have 2 stars. However, the picture on the wall was falling off and was secured by double sided tape (see photo). The fixtures in the shower were falling off as well (see photo). The breakfast was GROSS!!! The milk in the fridge was half frozen so only my hubby was able to have cereal. The eggs and sausage were getting cold. Breakfast was supposed to go until 9, it was only 8:15. Most Marriotts have cheese and salsa for the eggs, they did not. The only fruit was unripe orange and a few old apples. No yogurt either, oatmeal, waffles, or hard boiled eggs either. They had a few bagles and muffins left but the muffin was dried out too. So I had coffee for breakfast.

I found this hotel to be perfectly fine, even though some of the Yelp reviews had me leery. But beggars can't be choosers when most of Austin was booked solid (for FunFunFunFest). I was in town for a friend's bday party. I arrived just around 3pm and checked in with in minutes. The girl working the front desk was very nice. The room was perfect. It had a little living room area and kitchen-ish type area. I didn't use any of it, but was nice to have. The bedroom and bathroom area were pretty standard for a hotel. The bed was pretty comfy, though. I had trouble getting up in the morning. Much to my surprise there was a jacuzzi in my room. I wasn't going to use it, but hey, when do you get to chill out in a jacuzzi?! I checked out around 11 so missed the free breakfast, but there was to go coffee in the lobby that I helped myself to. Overall I had a pretty nice experience here!

Fairly good stay. Didn't care for the layout of the room, especially the television. It swivels to watch from the bed or from the couch but if it's swiveled to watch from the couch then it makes it hard for someone to walk by from the kitchen/work/couch area, by the corner of the bed, to the bathroom and vice versa. The bed was ok but the pillows were small and I didn't like that. Breakfast was pretty good. The staff was very friendly.

Pretty good weight room for a hotel. Service was great and they gave me a bottle of water when I checked in. My room seemed pretty modern, but the TV was kind of small. Bathroom was up to date, but the bed was a bit too soft in some places. Very quiet and the other guests were friendly. I also would have liked complimentary mouthwash, but that's no big deal. I would stay here again.

One of 3 TVs in the breakfast area.

I found the hotel serviceable and the staff friendly when they greeted you when you walk through the lobby. Overall a good solid hotel experience, service with a smile. I liked it until I observed my bill after checking out, there's a "State Cost - Recovery Fee" of some 70-80 cents per night you stay. It's not a tax, and it's not related to the room charge. I called the front desk and asked a lady named Cathleen to remove the fee for each night I stayed as a courtesy, as I read on a previous review and was told that it's a mandatory fee that I have to pay. Cathleen stated that there's a sign at the front desk stating this and it's in the bottom paragraph of my paper bill. I don't agree with the customers footing the bill to pay a Hotel Franchise Tax that the hotel incurs courtesy of the state of Texas. I called corporate who stood by Cathleen's stance. She was not rude about it, but again as a courtesy to us don't sneak in fees that nickle and dime the customer any further. Refer to uthoudad's 12/9/14 TripAdvisor review of SpringHill Suites Austin North / Parmer Lane that explains this issue. Good: -Was able to book at better rate with a AAA discount, be sure to inquire -Found an affordable $135 rate versus the normal $155 rate -Free parking -Free WiFi -Free breakfast from 6:30am-9am I think -Clean rooms, polite staff -Convenient location right off the highway -Short 10 minute drive to the airport -There is a free shuttle across the parking lot (short walk) at the regular Marriott where you can schedule a ride down town to the Residence Inn/Courtyard (on 4th St. and San Jacinto Blvd.) -Request a room that is away from the hotel so you don't hear the cars from the highway outside Bad: -I found the walls to be thin, if you aren't sound asleep you can hear anything from a hall conversation to a laugh in the next room -My room was away from the highway, but again you can here the outside vehicles, good luck if you're a light sleeper. -the State Cost - Recovery Fee is not cool.

We also dined at Nido, the hotel's restaurant, for both dinner and breakfast, and it was definitely a highlight. Located on the topmost floor, Nido offers stunning views of the river and downtown Austin. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the ambiance is elegant and ideal for a special evening. During our visit, we saw a couple of groups celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries, which shows how perfect this place is for special occasions. The pricing is on the higher side, but it matches the upscale experience and beautiful setting. For dinner, we ordered the Burrata as an appetizer and the Autumn Garden for the main course, along with an American IPA and a Jack Frost cocktail. Everything was delicious, but the Burrata truly stood out as my favorite. Breakfast was equally enjoyable--we had custom-made omelettes with veggies and avocado toast, both fresh and flavorful. Overall, The Loren Hotel, along with Nido, offers a great blend of comfort, excellent food, and a beautiful atmosphere. A perfect choice if you're looking to celebrate something special or simply treat yourself to a high-end experience.

The Friday night gathering was amazing. It was a perfect setting on the eight floor to talk, mingle, and meet new people. The evening was warm enough to go outside on the balcony/deck and have conversations and enjoy a breeze. The room itself is large with a water station and a bar. A few short tables were set up for sitting and a few tall ones for standing. They had a nice selection of drinks from beer and wine to mixed drinks. The food included lobster rolls, sliders (chicken and beef), a tray of different veggies and dips, little balls of cheese and something, and aroncini? My favorite was canapés of Mellon and prosciutto. The saltiness of the prosciutto added to the flavor of the melon. This event was 5***** I blame the architect for the room setup. Why would you put bedrooms on the side of a hotel next to traffic. The noise, honking and sirens. It finally quieted down around 11:30. Saturday was also an issue. They do provide ear plugs and sound machines, neither works for me. I was also surprised there was no lotion in the room. There was no microwave. Everything else in the room was top notch. Robes, slippers, a safe, a bar, and fridge. Overall, the noise is what created the 3*** rating. That was very disappointing.

While I mostly kept to the hotel, when I did venture out, I found that there were lots of great dining options within walking distance. My only nitpick is that the Wi-Fi was unreliable, which I've seen mentioned in a few other reviews. My first night, there was an outage throughout the entire hotel. If this stay were not reimbursed, I would have removed a star considering rooms average $500 a night and reliable internet access is expected. However, I was given 2,500 bonus points after calling the front desk when I first noticed I didn't have service. Completely unexpected but very much appreciated and yet another testament to the great service here.

We had a clean and tidy suite on the first level. Two double beds were comfy and plenty of towels. Our first night's stay was decent. Surprised to know they seem to use softened water because it made our skin feel slippery. I noticed the shower gel holder was falling out of the wall. A precarious situation of having to carefully pull the mechanism to dispense without pulling too hard. I did notify the night staff but the next day, it didn't seem like anyone came to fix it. No extra body wash or soap was provided even when I asked for some. The wall sockets with the en-suite appliances was not usable. The electrical outlets weren't working so we couldn't toast anything, use the kettle, or the coffee machine. Couldn't find one with a GFCI breaker to reset that side so gave up. Interestingly, the full-sized fridge and microwave were working ok though. The rod for one of the window curtains fell off while opening them. Because it's floor to ceiling we just left it alone. The common spaces around the property are well decorated, from the Library, Executive board room, kids corner, gym/yoga studio, and outdoor lounge space. Although, the snack/tea/coffee station with Keurig isn't filled maintained often. We had to ask the night staff to refill the water for tea and the lobby water dispenser was constantly low as well. On our second to last day, I found the hot water and still water station downstairs at Simona's. Pros: Clean, comfy, affordable stay. Enjoyed the bottomless drip coffee $5 and their signature Breakfast at Tiffany's latte. Also appreciated them letting us do late checkout and upgrade our room. Cons: Complimentary water station, Keurig / snack station, overall maintenance of room amenities could be handled better. Warning: If booking from 3rd party (BILT, Capital One Portal...) the added parking is not the same price that's on Colton's House's website. It's actually $40/day (with in/out privileges). However if booking directly through Colton House for stays, parking is 50% off at $20. Would we stay here again in the future? Most likely not. For an SLH property, we may look for another better-maintained option in the future.

A huge flaw is you need a key to get everywhere. You cannot go park and get to the lobby. You have to use a key to get from your room floor to the lobby. That's just weird.
