Decent stay here for a week while on a work trip but definitely some opportunities to improve. Semi safe neighborhood although some homeless/vagrants in the area. Walkable distance to the university, state capitol, and downtown. Onsite restaurant and amenities were marginal. Coffee was not available in lobby in the morning unless you went to the restaurant area. Elevators seemed to work great and kept people from long waits. Front desk was friendly and handled my transaction fine. No extra ordinary treatment of Diamond Hilton Honors members such as room upgrade or personalized service. Had a king bed suite on the 9th floor. Room was semi updated and generally good condition but some age and wear/tear evident. Bathroom was small and could use an exhaust fan. Everything in the room worked reasonably fine although the tv did have glitched service or some interruptions in viewing some channels. Room was clean and relatively comfortable and quiet except for cross walk signal chirping from nearby intersection. read more

The beds are comfortable. I like the kitchen with full size fridge. The gym is inadequate. There are free weights, no equipment at all. Only one weight bench. So if there's one person in the gym you are out of luck. There's literally nothing you can really do until they are done using the one and only weight bench. It's a little sad the Holiday Inn has a better fitness center than a Hilton Property. Other than the gym this place is a good nights rest, but I need a good gym to stay in shape and healthy. The two gentlemen who greeted us were really wonderful. They explained everything we needed to know about the hotel, the food and surrounding attractions. Our bartender was wonderful as well and he suggested great barbecue places in town. The rooms are super spacious. They even have a little kitchen with a huge fridge and a microwave. But the room? Big letdown. TVs glitched constantly, the A/C wouldn't regulate (room was 65° even with the thermostat set to 71°), the shower leaked unless you cranked it shut like a pipe wrench, faucets were loose, and even the phone didn't work. Just a lot of little things that added up. As a Diamond member, I was upgraded, but the room still felt worn out. And heads up on the valet: I was quoted $54-$57 per night, but my final bill showed $70 a night plus tax. That adds up quick and wasn't what I expected. In short: A+ staff, C- experience. Not happy with this stay at all. I spend a lot of nights in Hilton hotels. 100-200 a year and am lifetime diamond. We were in town to visit my mother in the hospital nearby and I called I think around 2:30 and said hey, I know check in isn't until 4 but we finished a tad bit early any chance our room is ready and I was told yes, we have a room available for you. I said cool see you in 5 minutes and she confirmed. Upon arrival a male was at the counter said no, heck in is at 4 and we cannot check in until then. I explained I had just called and he was condescending and rude back. We had to valet our vehicle and ended up having to sit in the lobby for an hour. Eventually my wife went back and asked and now the room was ready but the guy didn't even bother telling us, he just watched us sitting there. read more

We stayed for one night in a suite. The suite was a good size and I liked the separate kitchen area. For the price and the normally high standards of double tree I was very disappointed in the bed frame that was crumbling apart onto the bed. I felt like I was in a run down motel because of this. Other reviews mentioned this and the manager responded they would look into fixing so I'm disappointed with the lack of action here. Parking is a ridiculous $50 a night and you have to do valet. Add in tip and you are really spending a lot on parking. We checked in 20 minutes early and the front desk didn't even look if our room was available. They just said "we don't do early check ins." Based on other reviews, this hotel seems very strict on policies at the expense of customer service. We just had a long plane ride with a toddler and now we have to sit in the lobby and wait for a measly 20 minutes when the room was probably ready?! WARNING!!! Do not stay at this hotel!!!! My Wife and I decided to spend Father's Day weekend in Austin. We're Gold members and a part of the "Friends and Family" program. We frequent a different Hilton brand hotel at least once a month while traveling to several states for recreation. So far we have 19 stays with well over 30 more planned for the year. We drove over 3hours from the Dallas area for this stay. Once we arrived, we attempted to park, but we were told that the ENTIRE facility is valet parking for $51 a night. The young man directed us to the parking garage across the street and said we could use that for self-parking. When we got to the garage, we were notified that it costs $20 per day to park there. We decided to go back to the and see if the disabled parking spot was open. We are both disabled U.S. Military Veterans with injuries on our lower extremities along with other severe disabilities, so after a long drive it's painful to walk even a few feet to the building. When we returned to the hotel parking lot, the disabled parking spot was open so we parked in it. This time, a different young man from valet named John walked up and told us that we can't park there unless we pay the $51. To my understanding, the hotel is not only required to provide accessible parking, but they cannot charge a disabled person for using it. I notified the front desk clerk of the issue and he walked me to the valet counter to let them know I could park there without a fee. Then John argued the point and said the manager requires them to charge for that spot. We decided to leave and have dinner while we research the validity of their policy. When we returned, I parked in the disabled spot once again. The other attendant came over to get our keys and give us a valet pass. While the young man was writing my information on the check-in sheet, John decided to stand over him in an attempt to intimidate us. I let John know that his help was not needed, as the other gentleman had the situation under control and could write my information down on his own. Apparently John thought that was funny and laughed at me while refusing to leave us alone. John stood there like a bodyguard the entire time and then followed us to the door. I notified the Assistant Manager of his actions and went to my room to finally get some rest. Once we got in the room and prepared to go to bed, we pulled the sheets back and found blood stains on the sheets where my Wife would be sleeping. I had to call down and request new bedding. When the Assistant Manager arrived with the new set of sheets, he just dropped them off and left. We had to make the bed ourselves as if we were employed by Hilton. If we had the energy, we would just drive home tonight and not even attempt to sleep in this outdated, overpriced hotel room. I should mention that we were in this room because the first room we were placed in had a broken sink, so we had to move to a different floor. I requested a call from management, but I suspect they will try to cover this situation up without notifying him. We did not put our lives on the line for this country, only to be treated like second class citizens! We are considering taking our business to a different hotel chain after the way we were treated today. There is no TV. Let me say that to grab your attention. Yes there is, BUT. It just local TV channels. I haven't been to a hotel in 30 years where it didn't have cable of some sort. Yes, you get local TV and that's it. You cannot order a pay per view movie, or anything. You cannot plug you laptop in to TV and play a movie. Nothing, absolutely nothing. So if you think you are going to take a day and spend at this hotel and kick back and maybe watch a movie or two. Think again. U less it's on a local TV channel with commercials. You ain't watching it. This is a throw back to TV in the late 80's. Now it is an updated high definition TV. But only with local antenna TV. I was blown away when me and the wife decided that on our 4 day here, we were just going to order in food, sit in bed and watch a movie together and take a break. We get all comfortable in bed with food and discover we only have local TV. And if there is a movie playing, you better hope you like it, and hope you catch it in the beginning when it starts. I still can't believe this hotel has not upgraded their technology from the 80's-90's. Other than that. It's a good hotel to stay at. Just proper to not hang out inside the room. I stayed here for a long weekend. I didn't realize it's along the "medical mile" area. When driving in, we saw one of the parking lots was converted to a tailgate area. Traffic was bad because there was also a soccer game. It was almost as if we never left Columbus! A few things to note... the streets were practically deserted - very few cars during the daytime with scooters every few blocks. One morning while having breakfast, we watched a person in a hospital gown walk down the sidewalk on the other side. They were eventually stopped (and I hope assisted) by someone in a security officer/parking attendant uniform. Google maps came in handy for finding things and were fairly accurate. The hotel lobby was fine. The restrooms in the lobby had issues. Some of the doors had a hook at the top for purses but not all of them. I looped my purse handle and tossed it onto the hook not realizing I wouldn't be able to get it unhooked! My barely 5 foot tall self had my taller friend get my purse for me. One morning there was a hotel staff member asking if people wanted to take a survey and get extra Hilton Rewards points. I did it and then was asked if I would be willing to sign up for a special program for a few hundred dollars for a trip I could use in the next year. It was kind of odd and off putting. I booked the room via my travel card portal so I didn't get Hilton Rewards points for my stay. (Just a note when booking through any third party sites.) I originally asked for a suite with a King and breakfast but when a friend said she could join me I called my travel card and got it switched to a suite with 2 Queens and breakfast. This was easy to do and ended up being $100 cheaper. The room I received did have the 2 Queens. Walking in, I was surprised to find a kitchenette area. I didn't realize the suite came with one. It had dishes, sink, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, etc. We'd brought oatmeal and snacks just in case we needed a pick-me-up so this was perfect if we needed it. The living room had desks, a couch, a tv, a chair, and a teeny tiny balcony. It was kind of worn out and sad looking but all very functional. The bedroom had a full-length mirror, a big dresser, two Queen sized beds, two nightstands, and a closet. There was less than a foot between one of the beds and the closet so it was on the difficult side to use. Conveniently, there was a door between the bedroom and the rest of the suite. The bathroom had a single sink, a shower/tub that worked, an adequate toilet, hair dryer, and lots of towels. There were, however, no towel holders other than one on the back of the bathroom door. There were metal disks on the wall where there may have been towel racks at one point. My friend would wake up early, go to the gym, go for a room, come back to shower, and then we'd have breakfast together in the hotel restaurant. She's an amateur weight lifter and said the gym was nicely equipped. We did spend some time in the pool one evening. You have to walk through the lobby and one door at the end of the restaurant to get outside. There were towels available without needing to bring our own or towels from the room. There was a basket for used towels. The breakfast buffet had no issues. The wait staff were pleasant and remembered us during our stay and asked how we were finding Texas versus Ohio. read more

The hotel was nice. The parking was a joke. I went inside 3 times trying to get a key to open the gate that was supposed to work with a "digital"key on my phone. Needless to say this didn't happen; In this chaous my keys fell out. This was a Saturday. I called Monday to see if they were in lost and found. No body would check. The lady at the front door said she couldn't check because the lost and found was in the Housekeeping closet and she couldn't open it. You are telling me tha there is no person in the entire hotel that has a key to the house keeping rom? At 7:00pm? Don't ever stay there. read more

I do feel bad leaving a 2 rating but the feedback is important. For the record, I did speak with someone at the desk regarding the mold in my bathroom but there are other issues to address: Only 1 elevator was working. I heard from other guests who stayed here previously that it's been like this for years? Anyway, there were lots of people staying here for a conference so at peak times coming and going there was quite a crowd waiting for the solo elevator. The carpet in my room was crunchy when walking on it. Made me wonder if it had gotten wet previously and now is damaged underneath. I didnt walk to walk in there without shoes on. The headboards were very worn. The fridge in my room had crumbs on the shelves when I arrived. The bathroom in my room needed major attention. The sink had mold around the overflow drain. There was Kleenex stuck in the bathroom ceiling fan. The shower head fixture plate was no longer attached to the wall. The curved shower rod caused the curtain to settle in the middle therefore allowing water to spray out of the sides all over the floor - probably the reason for the mold behind the wallpaper that was severely peeling back next to the toilet. The tub also was leaking when the faucet was off. The pool area was extremely underwhelming. An old hot tub out of service, covered with plywood. Limited seating, but there only few people were there, and there were pool towels available but it made me wonder if they were turned over often enough and how long they'd been sitting outside. This hotel is in desperate need of a remodel. I try to stick to Hilton brands but would definitely try another hotel if I'm back in Austin. read more

I booked two King rooms at this hotel through Booking.com. When I arrived, we were provided with Queen suites which I suppose worked out just fine. The rooms were MASSIVE. There was a kitchenette, full living room with sofa, humongous bathroom and nice sized bedroom. Was only here for a night and part of the morning. The best part of DoubleTree is the fresh cookies and I definitely snagged my money's worth that trip. I went down for breakfast and filled up my plate assuming it was complementary and then was handed a bill for nearly $20. The room has a big screen TV but the remote doesn't work. Not even a bottle of free water in the room. So it's pure profit not service. They should have at least coffee in the lobby. If you walk towards downtown, the street on the side is full of homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk. Im at the higher floor but I can hear machinery noise from outside. When you stay here you're paying for the location and that's it. Well the staff is friendly, too. The site I booked this hotel on claimed it was a 4-star hotel. It's 3 at best. Expect black mold in the showers, scuffed up furniture and a lingering dusty, freezer burn smell in rooms. The rooms without balconies could definitely benefit from a open window. Their wifi is super spotty. Hardly works at all. It's valet parking only. I'm rating it 2-stars as they offer warm cookies at check in. And it's close to the Texas State Capitol, St. Mary's Cathedral and a few eateries. read more

My wife, baby, and I stayed in one of their suites for one night and had a great experience. Every time we asked for those famous chocolate chip cookies, they gave one to us and they were always warm and soft. They gave us a crib for our baby. The bar downstairs let us take our drinks to our room. The suite had a living room and a small kitchen and a great view of the city. It's very close to the Texas State Capital. This is an average hotel with low light dark rooms. I usually don't mind this chain but this one struck me as older and a bit smelly. The carpet definitely doesn't help. The only feature one could appreciate would be the suite style of the room but unfortunately, the furniture and the layout is not very optimal. Undersized television, old uncomfortable sofa, and so on. The bathroom is also below average with a tub that should have been replaced ages ago by a tiled shower and a toilet in the middle of it all. Moreover, the a/c unit is actually louder than the building next door that I can hear with the windows and curtains shut. The elevators can be slow at times. Finally, the management should invest on door signs that remains on the door knob when you open your door. read more

The headboard in our room was disgusting. I can barely even describe it. It's $18 per person for a breakfast buffet that is exactly like many cheaper hotels include free. It's valet only, but they should call it "One Valet Only" because they have only one valet whose job is to service the entire hotel, and there is no way. Oh and it's $45/night for them to hold your car for ransom and never get your car for you. Many people waiting, forever. Frustrated and late for where they need to go. This hotel has very nice rooms and located very close to the Capitol. We have chosen this particular hotel a number of times because we have had important business with our legislature this session. Though the actual hotel is good the customer service is terrible! It's seems COVID remains the excuse to offer poor hospitality. Isn't it time to step it back up? We certainly understand the challenges with the pandemic but strong businesses have learned to pivot and make acceptable accommodations at this point. We booked the room this time for 4 nights- no cleaning of rooms- only with 24 hour notice. Nobody ever asked if we needed new towels, toilet paper, shampoo etc. this is simply not acceptable. There was no hair dryer in the room- this put us behind on a very stressful morning. Not 1 computer in the business center worked! 3 out of order signs and the only one that didn't have a sign didn't work either. The website showed in room service but there was t any. When you call the front desk they quickly say "oh well the website says there may be changes due to COVID" Really? The entire time I was there patrons were calling the front desk, asking for toilet paper, towels and the front desk was short and not very friendly. This should be embarrassing to your hotel. Customers deserve a decent experience. I approached staff several times and they were too busy at the front desk chatting with each other to be helpful. The only friendly employee was the manager of the restaurant. We never saw cleaning staff of course. I have stayed at other hotels who may not clean daily but their staff does come around and at least offer! This is disappointing Double Tree. Pretty building and lobby. No automatic or revolving doors which made it more difficult to get in with all of our stuff. My suite was really nice and the bed was comfy. Free warm chocolate chip cookies! (Should note they didn't warn about the walnuts in the cookies and fortunately I'm only allergic to people with bad personalities). I chose a room on the 5th floor figuring I could get a little daily exercise in by taking the steps. The staircase was concrete and oddly lit and I expected to run into a serial killer at each landing. I also tried to take the steps all the way down to the first floor and it led to a scary hallway that said an alarm would sound if I went through the door. Went back up to the 2nd floor to take the elevator down one floor. The fitness center was very small. 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals and a bike. Some weights on the other side of the room. Staying here for my first ever visit to Austin was a great choice...yay for me for cashing in my Hilton Honors points to stay at this oh-so-conveniently located hotel. The desk staff and valet folks were super nice, as was Amanda in the bar (we got coupons for two free drinks in the bar, woot!). Just be aware that this hotel has valet parking ONLY and it's $35 per night, plus tax. Kinda steep, but worth it because we never waited more than 3 minutes for our car when needed. But honestly, we were in the middle of downtown, right next to the State Capitol, so could walk to just about everywhere. And even though it was FREEZING in Austin during our stay, and walking was almost literally painful with how cold it was, the location of this hotel can't be beat. Our suite was a nice size, and had a separate living room and bedroom and kitchen. The bathroom was the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel! Full sized fridge, too, which was nice. And even though we were near the elevators, we didn't hear anything from them, nor any room neighbors...very nice! I got to check in online before we arrived, so was able to get a room on a high floor that gave us a view of the State Capitol, which we could view from our balcony from either the bedroom or living room. Solid hotel near the state captiol. Friendly staff welcomes you at the front desk and is swift upon check in and check out. I spend a lot of time at the Capitol building and it's a short walk from here to there. It's very convenient as you can ditch a rental car altogether. The valet/parking is pricey here; much like other options in downtown Austin. The rooms are decent; they are quiet and comfortable. Most rooms have a small balcony so one can open their sliding doors to let fresh air in when it's decent outside. The fitness room is better than most complete with jump boxes and different kettlebell weight options. When is the last time you saw that in a hotel gym? Never! Breakfast in the morning is free for Gold and Diamond members. It's a decent buffet with Greek yogurt, fruit and the like as well as scrambled eggs and bacon. The in hotel bar is decent. The hotel is walking distance to many restaurant options in the area. Definitely a good lodging option in Austin and will stay here again. read more

Updated review. Valet Service by Travis (EXCEPTIONALLY AMAZING), Terrell and Max was great. Matt, in the restaurant, provided great client service. Jacob and KD continued to checked in to see if things were going smoothly, given it was such a horrible start and House Keeping was responsive & friendly. i stayed here 2 different times 2 different rooms within a 7 day period. The friendliness of staff would earn a 5 star. the convenient location to capitol would earn 5 star. the price would earn a 5 star. Breakfast would earn a 5 star. If hotel would do some few minor upgrades i would give 4 star first room bed and pillows Very comfortable second room bed and pillows Extremely uncomfortable BUT 1 star issues: *parking garage and parking spaces so small extremely difficult to park a regular size suv or truck *room lighting so dim very difficult to apply makeup *kitchenette has Nothing. no soap, paper towels, ect * musty room smell *outdated carpet and furnishing *I understand with covid that certain things that used to be in rooms are not anymore. but these rooms have Nothing that a business traveler is used to. There were two others in my group and they had the exact same opinion as I did. *do not disturb signs will NOT stay on outside of door handle. this would be a simple thing to have re-made *some rooms have updated showers. other rooms old tubs with curtain. *Each in my party reserved King room. when we checked in shortly after 7pm no kings available. read more
