I took my girlfriend here for our one-year because we wanted something more special than our usual date night spots for our special night. As far as special goes, the service and the grandiose of the hotel as a whole really delivered. Sure, if you look closely the Peabody will show its age, but I've never been anywhere more opulent. We came here for the experience, not just the food. But the food was great, too. In particular, the elk and scallop dishes stood out to me. My girlfriend's favorite was the beef. The ingredients were high quality, often local, and the plating was exciting. We particularly enjoyed eating the palate cleanser and chatting with Chef Keith in the kitchen. All in, I was out $575 for the experience. Local fine dining offers similarly good food for half the price. If you're only interested in the food, you'll find better value elsewhere. If you're interested in a special experience for your special occasion, it's hard to beat Chez Philippe.

The ambiance of the restaurant and entire hotel is amazing. The Peabody does it right full of elegance and refinement. The ducks are an amazing and cheerful touch as well. The food was good and the tea delicious. The experience is where it is at though. Definitely something I would do again. Memphis you charmed me and I will be back.

They had a few day old options at 50% off and many pastries, breads, sandwiches, salads and beverages to choose from. People are always nice and friendly and prices are comparable to other shops. I decided on a couple of Petit Fours since they didn't have the bread I wanted. It was a lovely day to eat there but I wanted to go home and make some tea, so I got it to go. They do have a cute dining area and a few al fresco tables. I certainly recommend this place.

LaMadelaine's in the Garden District of NOLA is a MUST when I make my way that far south, so it's no wonder I have shopped locally to get my french pastry "fix on" over the many decades LaBaquette has been available to me here. Knowing Reginald Dahl, the original owner of LaBaguette, used to make those pit stops even more special for me, as I try to support local businesses when possible. I decided recently to pick up a few things on my way home. I ended up w/a total of 4 pastries (one was day old so it was half off) one was a chocolate raspberry tart, an almond croissant, an almond creme filled custard. The sticker shock total was OVER $22.00!!! Absolutely ridiculous to think I paid that for 4 items. BUT, this is NOT the reason for the review. The choc raspberry tart was atrocious. There was no balance to the chocolate to raspberry ratio. The whisper of raspberry flavor that managed to make it into the bottom of the pastry shell wasn't even enough to make out a berry flavor at all. If there hadn't been a slight thin line of reddish color for the naked eye to perceive, I'd have thot it was all chocolate icing. Sadly, I think I'm done w/LaBaguette, I refuse to pay their expensive prices just to receive poor quality products.

Update: They are currently open on Mondays! Which was lucky for me as today is Monday and I had a few hours of free time. This is part-boutique, part-bakery. I am a macaron fanatic and the raspberry macaron was 100% the BEST macaron I've ever had. It was fresh, bursting with flavor, and crumbled so delicately. Thankfully they come in packs of two, so I have one more to enjoy later. I bought a few packs of macaroons, a delicious ice-cold mango green tea, a greeting card, two vinyl decals, and a perfect t-shirt: "Mental Health Matters", going to post that today to my college Senior. I got to chat a bit with one of the owners today, and she shared with me that she designs some of the cool decals and tees!! Very talented. Please support this local treasure. They ship, too! I'm only in town for a week, but I'll definitely be back for more treats!
