I absolutely love the vibes at this charming coffee shop! It's super walkable if you're in the East Rock area, and they offer free Wi-Fi, plenty of board games, and even beer and wine. They stay open late, which is great, and host tons of free local community events. While I did see a few people studying, I wouldn't say this is the best study spot. The lighting is dim, and it can get loud at times. It's more ideal for a casual hangout with friends. My partner tried one of their May specials, Cherry Blossom Latte, and loved it. Since I'm not a fan of cherry syrup, I asked to substitute with rose flavor, which was easily done. The rose flavor was subtle but still had that lovely floral note, and it was topped with rose petals--such a pretty touch! As a strong coffee drinker, their coffee is definitely on the weaker side. Wouldn't be my morning wake-up coffee but of a fun afternoon/evening drink for me! Rose, the employee, was super friendly, patient, and really accommodating with my request. Definitely a standout experience. I would definitely come back!

Love the environment and creative atmosphere of this space. The drinks are fun and trendy. The shop is cozy, comfortable and inviting. I came here on a Sunday with a friend and came back a few days later to join their Songwriters Circle. I met some really awesome people here. This is a perfect place to meet people and make friends.

I came here with a friend yesterday and per usual had an amazing experience! Spruce is one of my favorite community coffee shops. They always have creative monthly specials, offer a comfy space, provide engaging events, and do a wonderful job of drawing in the community. I ordered the April Showers Matcha, which was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to attend their events in the near future. They offer various trivia nights, live music shows, craft nights, and other fun social events. If you're looking for a unique local coffee shop, this is a must try!

I had lunch at Modern Pizza and wanted some coffee to help me digest the pizza on my drive. The vibes were great - cute interior, soft music, not too many chairs for the space. They have wifi as well, in case you're looking for a spot to work. They had some fun drinks, but I opted for the Americano. (When you want a digestif, the last thing you want is milk.) The Americano was fine. It wasn't the best coffee I've had, but coffee is very subjective.

This is a cool local coffee shop. Spacious inside with different seating arrangements (chairs, sofa's tables). Theres also outdoor seating. I enjoyed the mango and peach tea . If I lived closer to the area I would frequent this spot a lot more.

Coffee order was quickly made and done right despite very specific instructions. Great atmosphere and kind staff. I look forward to going back

    Spruce Coffee's November events

Spruce Coffee is a truly relaxing, special place: a genuine "third space" that makes people feel immediately comfortable like someone has invited you into their living room. Everyone who works there is absolutely lovely, welcoming, friendly and seems happy to be there. Spruce was founded after the much loved Gather East closed; and reopened with Gather's format under new owners/management, but with consistent hours, a much expanded menu (including light but tasty food) and a more accessible vibe. Go for the Wednesday open mics, the frequent concerts and study-buddy nights. My only mild criticism for a very new cafe that I do really love: since the format is meant for to be conducive to working, studying and conversation when there isn't an event, it can be hard to focus when playing vocal-heavy pop music, as opposed to instrumental or ambient electronic music, or maybe folk or indie music with vocals that take less prominence. Thank you Katie and AJ for contributing such a wonderful space to East Roxk

Its right on the corner of Chapel and Olive. We walked from our hotel, so parking was not an issue for us. The minute we walked in, we loved the place. We were warmy greeted and the hostess said she recognized my handsome dining partner. Well, come to find out, the hostess is the partner in this wonderful restaurant with Chef Roland. We met them both before as we had frequented a Norwalk restaurant run by them that we loved and that sadly closed down sometime ago. They opened this spot in New Haven about 1 year ago. Lovely European vibe to the whole setting and menu. Open kitchen. Delicous offerings. We ordered the eggs Benedict with a croissant in place of the English Muffin. I was so happy they were able to accomodate this request. Also a full legitimate English Breakfast! Amazing. A moctail and a pot of loose leaf black tea. All was outstanding! Outstanding! The service was top notch and we never felt rushed. They have daily themed specials in addition to their regular menu offerings. Beatiful bar area. We are so happy to have found them and will be returning often! We highly recommend!

The Ordinary is one of the oldest purpose build bars, with lovely dark gothic wood. A wacky gothic humor and excellent staff, who really care about the clients and the drinks. Good selection of gins. Outstanding cocktails on the list, at fair prices (especially happy hour). Or better yet, ask the expert staff to recommend and invent one for you. The bacon is a thick, crunchy, sugary must. Add it to your burger. And an egg. Get the shishito peppers. And the chocolate chip cookies. And if you're lucky and hungry, the coffin-full of sliders is a delicious bargain (with plenty for the next day).

First few times I went was during covid, and they were one of the few that allowed folks to just be. They resembled a real speakeasy during lockdown because you had to ring a bell and be let in. My most recent visit was with two of my long time friends on a rainy Wednesday night. We got seated by the "fireplace" and browsed the menu. I landed on a mocktail old fashion, my friend got the bee's knees and we got the big pretzel and the candied bacon. Pretzel was great, old fashion could have been better but the ambience was just what we needed. You really get a feel of old school New Haven being at Ordinary. The staff was great so I'll be back.

I was searching for something that could match up to Maison Bar Vins back home. First off can we talk about the bones of the place. The Taft building which once was a hotel now sits and houses a very charming French restaurant with a chef who could care less who you are or if your camera is permanently to your hand. I sat at the bar and the chef seated me. I opted out for their three course pre fix bar menu. Chef and owner Vincent who had trained under ICONS in the culinary world met me with this good old fashion old school attitude that today's foodie influencers could never understand. Serious poised stern energy that I love so much about old world cooking boh lore. The food was great. The playlist was upbeat, the kitchen had energy. This place should be the hardest reservation to get in New Haven.

They don't clean their upholstered seats, as it became plainly obvious on my clothes after having sat on the upholstered benches in the dining area. Now my clothes are permanently stained.
