Would have loved to enjoy the hot drinks in a real cup instead of paper. Really wish drinks were placed on counter with names facing the people waiting. We had no idea our drinks were ready. On my visit, it didn't feel like a place we could relax and linger. People were waiting for seating. We felt that the rotunda shape of the building made it feel so loud, almost an echo. This is a really cute and unique spot in southern CT! It's has a really fun nautical vibe inside, tons of seating and great seating outside for nice weather! There's a counter right when you walk in, but since it's so good, sometimes the line can wrap around the back of the room, but no worries it goes quick! Our breakfast sandwiches were amazing. I loved the biscuit. We tried drinks from a seasonal menu and each of us enjoy ours! They are great at accommodating, our larger party, and all of the items that we ordered things came out quickly and correctly! If they have one, you must order the tiramisu cinnamon bun!! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable in the menu and allergies. The food and coffee are both matched well in quality, quantity, and price. They also have new drink and food offerings often, and use current events like the Knicks win in their specials! Very fun and innovative. Additionally, they have gluten free and vegan options (be sure to ask about them)! I stopped by during fall and they had a yummy caramel apple ghost latte (deceased and desist). Their drinks were flavorful, not too sweet, and not too bitter. And all their syrups are made in house! This place appeared on our Yelp list as we searched for a cafe on a Saturday morning, while driving back from Milford. This is pretty much off the beaten path as it is kind of on it's own, overlooking a golf course and the sound. The place is simply lovely, an almost circular building with a lot of lighting. So, SO close to perfect!! I just moved to central Connecticut, so I've been on the hunt for my new favorite coffee shop. The Drowsy Whaler came across my TikTok FYP this week and I had time to drive down to the coast, so I thought, why not? Anyone who knows me knows that I'll go to great lengths for a good iced latte, and ever since I got my own espresso machine, I have high standards. Pretty much everywhere I've been so far has been totally disappointing. Many shops offer a breadth of flavor options that sound good in theory, but ultimately, turn out watery and acidic. No shade to rookie baristas--learning how to pull a good shot is hard--but the shot is literally the foundation of the coffee. No amount of milk and sugar can make a bad shot of espresso good. The Drowsy Whaler baristas can pull a good shot. They have a variety of fun flavor options updated seasonally. I got an iced Salty Lumberjack, from their Spooky Season menu. It came out looking so, so pretty. My one gripe is that the prettiness comes at a cost. They put the syrup in the cup first, which is fine, IF you do a good job of mixing it with the milk product before adding your espresso. Looking at my beverage and those around me, it looks like standard procedure here is not to mix the syrup into the milk before pouring the shot. While it creates a cool layered look, it's not practical to drink. No amount of shaking and swirling the cup will get syrup off the bottom. The only thing that works is to stir VIGOROUSLY with a straw, which mixes in the top layer of whipped cream and much as the syrup on the very bottom. All this to say: this is a beautiful shop in a beautiful location, and it's BUSY, because it's good! With this one simple adjustment, they would be the best in the area. read more

I'm so glad we tried it. We try biscuits and gravy whenever we find it on a menu. It was delicious!! They messed up how I wanted my egg cook and immediately replaced it. My friend's order also was wrong (they are new and we didn't mind waiting) but they threw in a cinnamon bun as a thank you. Truthfully, I never eat these. As a coffee, lover and connoisseur, I'm always intrigued about new coffee shops and trying new locations. When I found out about the Drowsy Whaler and their mobile location down by the seawall, I couldn't wait to make it over there! I was slightly discouraged by the viral factor of their popular drink, not my speed (I like to taste my espresso when I drink it versus a chock full of sugar, lol). However, I was thrilled to see the amount of attention being given to a small business in Stratford, Connecticut. By the time I was ready to drive down to the seawall, I was thrilled to learn the news that they opened a brick and mortar location. Nestled at the entrance of short beach on Dorne Drive, the Drowsy Whaler makes a statement by maximizing the restaurant space at this location for to go and dining in options. I came for the coffee... And kept coming back for more coffee and the biscuit! I happened to be hungry on my first day visiting so I asked be really helpful staff about their favorite items on the menu in which they did not hesitate to mention the biscuit bacon egg and cheese sandwich. What makes this sandwich and all of the other baked goods special is that the baked goods are actually baked IN-HOUSE fresh and are not brought in from another baker or third-party. You can taste the freshness and that biscuit is one of the most delicious things I've tasted in a really long time! I was pleased to see the baker literally bringing out fresh trays of chocolate chip cookies, scones, and other items. On the sandwich, the egg was perfect and jammy/slightly runny and the biscuit was crumbly, but moist enough to truly create the perfect breakfast bite. I'm not kidding when I tell you I went out of my way to come back the very next day for another biscuit sandwich and coffee! Although I know there are some trendy specials (which I'm sure I will try soon), I've only taste tested the standard Americano, cappuccino, latte at this point.
