It says not only does the business excel in their chosen industry, but it also means that when you, the client, arrive or make contact, you feel a genuine care and interest in your needs. It also says "We know what we're doing and we will only keep improving. When I say I am protective of my eyebrows, that is to say that when I can't see Brooke (longest was a 3.5 MONTH trip) I don't touch a damn brow. Anyone else tries? Hard no. She is excellent, doesn't make you feel insecure when your upper eye area looks like a bear, and is QUICK so that it's over in a timely fashion. Supporting a hard working local in her endeavors feels good too. Chic interior, awesome location, great price- on the inexpensive/reasonable side. I normally don't write reviews but I feel that this time it is necessary to write a review to share the horrible experience I've had with this particular stylist (SAMM ALEX). I was looking for a new salon since I am new to Bellingham area and came across Samm Alex's work on Instagram. I was impressed with her work and went ahead and booked an online appointment for Saturday, (2/9). A few days before my appointment (2/5), I received a text message from Sam stating she would have to reschedule my appointment because they were having a salon party for clients that day and she shouldn't have been scheduled to work. She seemed very apologetic and I was very understanding, we rescheduled my appointment for 2/7 at 4:30 pm. The day before my appointment she texted me to let me know they had cancelled the salon client party and she would be able to see me on Saturday 2/9. Since I work Monday- Friday from 8-5pm, I agreed to change the appointment back to Saturday because it would work better for my work schedule. She asked me if I could send her pics of how my hair looked currently and how I wanted my hair to look. I sent her the pictures and I asked for a price range and that was the last conversation we had. I had already confirmed Saturday worked for me so I didn't feel like I had to text her again to remind her of our appointment. On Saturday afternoon, I arrived to the salon and it looked closed, the door was locked and I knocked, there was one salon worker who let me in and told me the salon was closed and no one had scheduled appointments that day. I explained to her I had been texting with Sam and she had rescheduled me back to Saturday since the salon client party was cancelled. I even read the text messages out loud. The salon worker (I did not get her name) looked for my appointment in the system and couldn't find it. She called Samm and couldn't reach her, I texted her and couldn't reach her. The salon worker even called the salon owner to let her know what was happening and she couldn't reach her either. I decided to wait half hour. The salon worker offered to reschedule me with a different stylist or a different day with Samm. I politely declined and told her I would wait to hear back from Samm, and I left. About an hour later I was already home and received a text from Samm apologizing stating there had been a miscommunication that she should have reached out again to confirm the appointment. She offered to reschedule and give me half off for my service. She seemed very sincere in her apology and I decided to give her another shot. We rescheduled for Thurs 2/14. This was my last opportunity to get my hair done as I was planning to leave out of town the next day and visit my family so I was crossing my fingers this day would work and no more rescheduling. The morning of my appointment she texted me requesting to reschedule my appointment ONCE AGAIN because her car was stuck at her condo parking lot and all her neighbors besides one had been stuck for 4 days! At this point, I told her it was my last opportunity to get my hair done and I was actually trying to get it done that day before the weekend because I was planning to leave out of town the next day. She offered to wait for her fiance to get off work at 5pm and she would use his car and arrive at the salon at 6pm. At that point I felt bad for making her drive so late with the bad snowy weather, and my hair process would be about 4 hrs so she would be driving back home at around 10 pm, I declined to do my hair that late for her safety and mine and told her if we didn't leave out town due to weather I would be available on Friday 2/15 to get my hair done. She agreed and stated she would wait to hear from me the next day to see if I stayed in town. I texted her the next day to let her know that we didn't end up leaving out of town and I was available all weekend or a different weekend if necessary, and guess what... She NEVER bothered to text me back! I am very disappointed as I have never met her in person and she did not leave a good impression. I was trying to be understanding because of how horrible the weather was that week, but after reading SEVERAL other reviews, it seems that she has a reputation for canceling appointments on clients, and to me that is so disrespectful! It was such a waste of my time going back and forth with her and rescheduling and changing my schedule around only to be told that I had to reschedule again and again. She may do good work but her work ethic is lacking and unprofessional. I will not recommend this stylist to anyone! Time to look for a new salon, wish me luck! read more

I've been going to Samantha at Spruced since they opened. When I first began seeing her I was dying my hair from my natural blonde/brown (level 8) to a very dark brown/black for the past 3-4 years. She did a great job maintaining the color as my roots would come through. About 6 months ago I came in wanting a complete change -- going back to my natural. Samantha walked me through my options on how we could proceed and we agreed to a full lift and then bayalage until the color matched my roots which are quite ashy in color. When I walked out of the salon that day, I felt like a new person! The color was significantly lighter without being brassy and I received so many compliments! I went on a two week vacation shortly after that and the color held up very well - everyone I met was very surprised to hear that just a few weeks earlier I had almost black hair. We've been continuing to lighten by bayalaging and it's amazing how well and thoughtful Sam is to ensure any grow out compliments the coloring as opposed to being obvious grow out. Of course, going through a huge change like this can really stress our hair. Sam recommended I try the Moroccan Oil conditioning mask and oil with each was and it has been a life saver. On days when I start to feel a little warm; I'm now using the Davines purple conditioner which is both moisturizing and the best 'purple' I've ever used. Spruce itself has a welcoming layout and I really like the energy and vibe of the salon. They did a great job and I really like the location with the big windows and the amount of natural light that comes in. Overall: definitely see Sam for any hair work. I'd be lost without her. Her chair side manner is excellent (great at reading my mood for 'silent says' or for 'I want your life story' days) and she really cares that you walk out loving your hair and continue loving it each morning you wake up. read more

Angelena is the only stylist I've ever told to just do whatever they want to my hair. I totally trust her style and professional opinion. I'm not one to use a blow dryer or other tools, but she listened to that and my hair always looks great with just air drying. New salon is in a great location, lots of free parking, and is super cute and clean. Love the products they use too, it smells great! read more

Bad, definitely DO NOT see Samm, Samantha, Sam. Whatever her name. She terribly messed up my hair. I THOUGHT she was good as I had been seeing her. I was loyal but she NEVER REMEMBERED ME. Every time I had to remind her what she did. I let it go as it is so hard to find someone to do a good job. Shouldn't have stuck with her. I tried to be a good client and get to know her and help her but she didn't listen. I give up. My hair looks bad. No one should go through this. Listen to my advice. I have been going to Angelena for over a year to get my hair cut and colored. She always does a wonderful job! I had been getting my hair highlighted for years when I went to her. I told her I wanted to be light blonde for my wedding, but have it look natural. She suggested that I try balayage instead, and now I will never go back! She got my naturally dark blonde hair looking natural and beachy for my wedding. She does a great job giving me what I want and making my hair look good. read more

I've never been to Spruced but today I made an online lash appointment with Amanda and then had to cancel right away when I noticed I had it booked on a day I had to work. Shortly after I emailed them to cancel, Amanda texted me to make sure the cancellation wasn't a system error and went above and beyond to ensure my appointment wasn't mistakenly cancelled and let me know her availability if I wanted to reschedule. She also said she was open to work with my work schedule and I could schedule an early or late appt. if needed. I really appreciated this level of follow-up, especially as a new client who has yet to even meet Amanda. You guys, I am so sad. After years and years of having a terrible stylist, I finally decided it was time to break up and find someone new. I Google'd "hair salons near me" and Spruced was #1. With a month until my wedding, I ended up getting an appointment set with Angelena and she was freakin' amazing. She did a perfectly balayage and I was hooked. I only got my hair done ONE other time by her (bangs in November--I am in love with them) and then I find out she doesn't work there anymore. I'm seriously depressed.
