Square Level Plumb has been our go to contractors since we moved here to Concord in 2014. This current job was a remodel of our master bathroom and the hallway bathroom. Greg and Valerie were responsive and reliable. Getting the initial consultation was a bit of a wait. I'm sure everyone knows that since covid started EVERYONE wants to remodel. SLP is highly sought out by our neighborhood. From the initial contact, everything has been mapped out and scheduled. My husband and I are very impressed with their work ethics. We were given a time line for all the work we requested. Everything was exactly as stated on the timeline except when covid hit our family and then one of their workers contracted covid. This was to be expected in our current state anyways. When covid hit our family, it was open communication with SLP. We protected their workers by isolating the family. It was great to know Greg was also concerned about his employees too. We put a hold on construction for only a day or two but work started again quickly. When covid hit his employee, it was difficult as his tile guy was in the height of our job. We had to stop construction immediately. Greg found a replacement tiler and the job was back on within 3 business days. Not at all disappointed with the work that was to be completed. The Project Manager, Adam, was communicative and reliable as well. We were never inconvenienced by their workers or work that needed to be done. Adam always had an open line of communication with us via text. He was easy to get a hold of if we had any issues. SLP had 3 jobs concurrently running in our neighborhood. These guys are the best -- the whole entire crew! Not only did Greg give me a highly competitive bid, but he clearly explained every step of the project, from joists and piers to screw fasteners! He also explained the different grades of lumber available as well as the pros and cons of using wood-like products, such as Trex. As for the project itself, it started on time and without delay. Some work was not needed as originally thought, so Greg was prompt to make adjustments to the estimate. A pain point of the project was of my own fault. The stained I applied had not sufficiently cured before I applied a second coat. I requested Greg's team for some help to resolve this issue and they did so promptly and without complaint of their already busy schedule (of course I paid extra for them to fix my mistake), A minor issue came up when I suggested the gap between the deck and brick patio structure be a little smaller, and Adam came up with a brilliant and elegant solution to close I've had many contractors at my house, and SLP was at all times professional and cleaned-up daily. My property company contracted with Greg to work on my rental. I'm so glad they did! I received excellent customer service/work on my water heater from both Greg and his associate Jeremy! Water heater was leaking, pipes and top of w.h. were corroded, shut off valve just spun and the exit/ventilation tube was not in the correct position for proper ventilation. It was a mess!! We are so happy to have worked with this company for our project. The owner and his skilled craftspeople made a huge impression on us. Owner's emails were promptly returned; when owner and craftspeople made appointments to come to our home, they showed up on time, TO THE MINUTE. Adam (who consulted with us and installed our molding) was professional, competent and so easy to work with. He gave great advice and never rushed us through decisions. He and his coworker stayed to touch up some of the molding. The work is impeccable and they finished well ahead of schedule. They had difficult corners and crowded rooms to work in, and yet there was absolutely no disruption to our day. They just dealt with any challenges and the house was left in better condition than when they arrived. Their team hit all the right marks; you may think these are small things or very obvious things, but we are not shown this same level of professionalism with our own banks or large corporations that we deal with daily. We recently bought a house that had been used as a rental for 20 years. We were lucky enough to inherit the original carpets, linoleum, and lovely kitchen. First on the laundry list was to get rid of the nasty carpet that covered most of the downstairs as well as the kitchen linoleum and replace it with hardwoods or something like it. I've never needed a contractor before so I turned to Yelp. Greg came over on a Saturday and was awesome. He patiently listened to everything I wanted to do, offered thoughts or suggestions, and answered questions about the kitchen (that's not in my budget yet). He even went out back to look at the deck and retaining wall that's years down the road for us. He took some measurements and a few days later sent us over a detailed estimate on everything we wanted to do. It's made it so easy for us to pace out the updates we want. We scheduled the floors and partial wall demo for just a few days later. I can't say enough great things about the floors or the experience. Not only was engineered flooring Greg picked better than we expected but the demo and install were painless. His crew was friendly, clean, and fast. Greg's prices are dead on with what I was expecting (at least for floors) and even better than I was expecting for some of the other work we want done. Greg and the crew did a great job renovating our kitchen! (See pics) This was our first foray into renovation. We are glad that we chose Greg and his group for several reasons. First of all, they were very professional in coming by to provide estimates and with the written material they provided regarding the selection sheet and construction plans regarding materials and timeline. Secondly, they finished the work on time and within budget. Thirdly, they did a great job of communicating with us during the whole process via email and text. Special shout out to Jeremy who was able to fix a problem with the tiles we selected. Not only did he find a comparable selection but it was also at a lower cost! Also, special kudos to Adam who did an amazing job refinishing our cabinets and for being honest and identifying an issue with the tiles that had been laid by another tile guy on the job. Finally, the attention to detail on the final day was pretty amazing, kind of like getting your car detailed. Everything was immaculate and functioning perfectly. We appreciated their kind spirit and their willingness to listen to our concerns during the whole process. I didn't have the best experience, but after giving my feedback to Greg, he did everything to make it right. That included sending 2 guys out the next day, fixing the items and doing a good job at it, and he was willing to refund the money I originally paid him. Below are couple of things I noted: 1. The whole process took too long. Exchanging emails, and voice mails, getting an appointment. Painfully slow. Below review was regarding the first appointment I had and Greg has since addressed this issue: I was not happy with the original appointment. I was charged 2 hours the minimum fee, but during the 2 hours, it included a lot of time discussing the items that needed repair and him "estimating a quote". It turned out the quote was not good and Greg had to come out a second time. So I felt like I paid for 2 hours but part of that time went to the company just providing an estimate. Also, for the 3 items he fixed. 2 out of 3 were not resolved. The blinds he re-installed some were still not hooked on right. I had to re-do them myself. The sink clog was still clogged. read more

These are things I probably could have done myself, but it would have taken me 9 times longer and would have resulted in a lot of extra oopses. Greg's team came out to troubleshoot a cold water problem with a faucet that the previous owner has installed. They found the issue quickly and after checking with us went and bought a like kind replacement and installed it the same day. Very efficient and responsive. Also they were very respectful of the tenant's schedule. The bill came a few weeks later but at an inflated rate. I quickly emailed Greg about it and turned out it was their new rate that took effect shortly after his team came out. So he quickly reissued the invoice with the original rate prior to the raise. All very professional and prompt. I have no question it was an honest mistake. 9 months went by then the faucet started to leak in multiple places, clearly it has nothing to do with the instllation or else it would have failed much sooner. We called Greg and he quickly got in touch with the tenant, scheduled a time and sent his team out. They concluded it was a defective faucet and promptly returned it to HD and installed a new one the same day... at no cost as this is within warranty. Greg's team showed pride in what they do, honored committments, and hold themselves to a much higher standard compared to their peers in terms of customer service and satisfaction. Given my experience with other contractors so far, his team definitely gets an A+. read more

There's a huge range of jobs between home renovation and changing a light bulb, and Greg and his team do all of them just about perfectly. I have personal knowledge of his work on four houses, as diverse as from installing a micro hood to replacing a foundation sill plate and abating termite damage to siding. There are a few people in life that are really, really important: The right partner, a best friend, a good boss, and a trustworthy, high quality contractor. Greg and his team are that rare find of a contractor and if there were 100 stars we would give them 100 stars. After several bad experiences with contractors we almost resigned ourselves to thinking that decent, professional,trustworthy and high quality contractors just don't exist anymore. Until we met Greg and his team. Here is the list of how this team executed our kitchen remodel: - First contact: Greg came to our house within a only a few days of us contacting him. He stayed for 2 hours and went over every kitchen detail with us. He did this without charging us for his time. (another contractor stayed for 1 hour and charged us $350 dollars for the "consultation", don't ever do this!) - During these 2 hours Greg did so much more than just going over our plans. He made several very valuable suggestions, that saved us money and time. - He also directed us to a different cabinet company (Granite Expo in Emeryville) that brought our cabinet prices from 25K to 12K!! What a difference that made for our budget. It allowed us to start the remodel right away and have a new kitchen before the holidays! - Proposal and timeline: Within a couple of days we had a proposal from Greg. Every question we had then and throughout the remodel was answered the same day! No long waiting for a contractor to respond. We were able to contact Greg via phone, via text or via e-mail. He always picked up his phone, he always texted and e-mailed back right away, no matter what time of the day, weekend and even on his days off! - Crew: Greg's crew was fantastic. I was working on my computer in the same room but on the other side of the partition. So I "heard" most of their work and their conversations. This crew worked non-stop, never disappeared, and consistently focused on their work. It was very impressive. They were always professional and considerate, doing everything to not impact our life, which had to go on. Our dog "bothered" them often, wanting to play with them. They were super nice to him, made friends with him and let him bother them without any complaints. We still marvel at how Greg was able to build such an impressive crew. Oh, we forgot to mention the fantastic clean-up that his crew did. Every day! - Timeline: We had a very aggressive 2 1/2 week timeline. In the past, with other contractors it was common that the timeline was not met, sometimes going from 2 weeks to 2 months. Greg's crew checked the timeline every day, to make sure that they actually had done the work that was planned for that day. They went over it with us, explaining the work in more detail. We couldn't have been more comfortable and happy, when every day, our timeline was met. - Budget: As mentioned above, Greg saved us 13K right away when directing us to an alternate cabinet company (we are writing a separate review of Granit Expo, but in brief, we are very happy that we went with them) - There was one unexpected surprise with our electrical set up which had been done decades ago and did not meet the standards anymore. That added to our budget. We asked Greg - with not much hope - if there is anything that can be changed to our budget, so we don't have to go over it. He did find something that we could change and in the end he saved us even more money by bringing the overall budget down! Wow. - Supervision of work: Greg came by almost every day and spent a significant amount of time going over the work with his crew. Any change, no matter how small was discussed with us first and it always included the crew specialist who was working on that item. We also really liked how Greg took care of his crew, bringing water or sodas, responding with much care if someone was sick, and called on their expertise, instead of just giving orders. Corporate America could learn a lot from Greg. - Greg also supervised the cabinet installation, which was a big relief for us. His expertise helped so much. - Timeline: They did it. They finished on time! Greg delivered everything he said his team was going to do, and then he somehow fit some extra work into the timeline. We were so happy that we had a new kitchen for the holidays. If you make a timeline with Greg, you can count on him delivering it. - Follow up: There were several items that needed follow up. This was not Greg's fault, it was things like a faulty new faucet. Every time we contacted Greg, he had a team member at our house the next morning! He even fixed items that were not his responsibility, and he did not charge us one penny. We have to stop here, no more space left for the review. I recently sold a house and purchased another, so needed some small projects completed at both locations. I have hired Greg for a deck repair, assembly and installation of a large cabinet for the garage, replacement of pendent lights in the kitchen, and re-strapping of a water heater that had been incorrectly strapped by the company that installed it. Valerie has been extremely responsive to all of my scheduling requests and has communicated very well throughout each project. Greg is knowledgeable and personable, and also communicates clearly about what the project entails, timing, etc. There was considerable delay in getting the deck repair started, due to the protracted process of having a professional arborist's evaluation of encroaching tree roots that Greg discovered. Scheduling the arborist's evaluation of the roots (who told me the whole 30 ft.redwood tree had to be removed!) and then complying with the city's requirement for an evaluation by their arborist twice delayed the start of the deck repair. Greg was extremely patient about the need to reschedule the start date . He and his team did a great job with the repair, and with accommodating the tree roots, since the city determined that the tree should stay. I felt each time that I was a valued customer, despite the small scope of my projects. The guys who came to do the work arrived on time, the work was done well, the charges were entirely reasonable, and the whole process was accomplished efficiently. Well, I wanted to update this review as I heard from Greg Skeen as a result of my initial review. Yelp does help folks. I was excited as I hoped he wanted to make things right, and it seemed like that may have been the case. He became part of another business Elevate Design and Build. He came out to my house and I discussed the work I needed to do and it seemed like he was going to do it, fix an oven door, replace a tile in the kitchen, but in the end, he backed out and said he didn't think he could fix the oven door, and did not address the tile. He sent me an email telling me he didn'tt rust his expertise to fix the oven door. Go Figure!!! Anyway, it didn't work out, and again my belief is that the job wasn't lucrative enough, and/or he didn't want to deal with me anymore. Anyway, good luck if you contact this business. Even though they say on their website that no job is too big or too small, I don't believe it. read more

OK, but needs management and oversight. Greg did couple jobs for us. The quality was ok, but one just left somewhat sour feeling that after done bulk of the work is done he is not interested in finishing touches and just wants his check. Anyway, we gave another job to Greg. I supplied him with all the information I had about products he has to install and manufacturer installation instructions. His people done some good job, but I was invoiced 30% more then the original quote. We didn't agree since Greg had all information he needed beforehand to come up with accurate estimate. He tried to bill me extra for a work that is clearly described in manufacturer's instructions. His negotiation tactics where very "unusual", he even intimidated me to dump the old scrap material on my front yard. We won't use Greg Skeen for our future projects and can't recommend him. read more

We bought a home that we love despite the fact that the guys who flipped it did so many things wrong. We've been going down the llst of repairs with different handymen with mixed results, ie. communication, punctuality, work done. The most recent job was to refurbish our kitchen cabinetry to accomodate the proper kit for our built in microwave. Most handymen didn't want touch it. Not the case with Greg Skeen HelpUFix. Greg came out when he said he would, was very personable and clear about what would need to be done, also providing a fair estimate. We made an appointment for the work and Adam showed up right on time, was extremely courteous, professional, and got right to work. The work was spot on, exceeding expectations. He even repaired our front door without even being asked about it. He knew he could do it quickly and did it, which was greatly appreciated.
