I needed to have caps attached to 8X8 Douglas Fir columns in my garage so as to connect the columns with the horizontal beam above; the work was specified by an engineering order. I called Greg and he showed up on schedule to assess the job & provide an estimate. Then Danny came, on schedule, to perform the work. He did a great job and cleaned up after. I co-own a house in Pittsburg that we rent to my son. We had done a lot of remodeling a couple of years ago but there were still several items needing attention. I looked up handymen in the area and liked the reviews I saw on Greg Skeen's HUF. I'm always a bit hesitant especially when all the reviews are all 5 stars. After looking at other companies I decided to ask Greg to provide an estimate. They did this promptly and came back with an acceptable quote. I accepted and they were ready to proceed within a couple of days. I had spoken this whole time with Victoria who was very pleasant and accommodating. I traveled up to Pittsburg from the Central Valley to check out the work once completed. Unfortunatlly, I didn't inform Greg or Victoria of my plans. I was originally told they would be complete approx 3:00-5:00. When I got to the house approx 1:30, the guys were just about complete. Greg was able to send a third guy so they got done sooner. A good thing, as it allowed me to return home sooner. There were three items to the job, install a A/C unit through a stucco wall, add new electrical for this unit and add electrical in the ceiling of the living room and install a ceiling fan that we provided. All of the work was done to satisfaction and in much less time than I ever imagined. I will definitely look up Greg Skeen's Help-U-Fix for any future needs. In fact, once I find employment again, I'd like to add some fencing and a patio at my house a couple of hours south. I believe even with the added travel and room that they might still be in contention with pricing. read more

Removed old mailbox and post (using jackhammer with small shovel attachment for old concrete). Sunk new metal post in concrete and assembled and attached new mailbox. Live office person promptly returned initial call and follow-up email. Project started and completed within two hours within lower range of original quote. Greg Skeen's team is awesome! I needed a few minor fixups around the house (caulking the sink, fixing closet doors, fence repair etc). I live in a newer home and never had to get help until now as I did most of the minor fixups around the house myself. But this time I decided to get help. I also anticipate needing help in the future as I am going to be renting out my house. I got quotes from 2 other people but it seemed high. I decided to get hourly help from Greg instead and it worked out to be the cheapest ($100 to $200 cheaper). His guy Dan was very courteous and honest. I thought I had to replace the track for my closet door. But he just straightened it to save me money. He also had to run out to the store twice to get some parts, but didn't charge me for the second run since he felt it was his fault. read more

I hired Greg's team to remove the plaster in my dining room, upgrade the electrical, and install sheet rock in the same room. They also fixed the remaining plaster in the inlay in the ceiling. The dining room turned out great with very good workmanship. They were able to carefully remove my existing molding and baseboards from 1918 and re-install them without being able to tell that they were removed, which was important to me. They also cleaned up after themselves each day and removed all of their debris. Greg's electrician also let me know about some unsafe electrical issues in my attic and basement that I was unaware of and I definitely appreciated that. In addition, he went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the work that the team had done. I will definitely hire them again as I have additional projects to finish in the future. Having seen the great Yelp reviews, I contacted Greg about building a new gate for my parents' fence in Concord. Living some distance away, I expected it to be difficult to coordinate this, but Greg made it incredibly easy from start to finish. He inspected the fence and got me a reasonable estimate within a few short days, scheduled someone to do the work the following week, responded kindly to a bunch of last-minute requests/questions/additions from me and best of all, the work was done in a way that exceeded my parents' expectations. They described the quality of the gate as both 'beautiful' and 'very solid,' and found Greg's crew member extremely professional throughout the day. They could not be happier, and neither could I. I would trust Greg with any future job, and my parents would as well (which is saying quite a lot). Most importantly, now my parents can finally get the 'post-retirement dog' they've wanted for years! read more

Greg's company installed a new front door and framing for me in January. The door panels began cracking after about four months and long story short the lumber company blamed it on the installer for not sealing the top of the door. I contacted Greg, who kindly agreed to replace the door and did so very quickly at no charge to me. In talking to Adam, who did the replacement, and several other people whose opinions I also trust, I believe the lumber company was to blame in that the wood had not been cured properly. Damage from the elements would not have happened so quickly, plus my door is under an overhang with no direct contact to rain or sun. The fact that Greg did not prolong the replacement process by getting into it with the lumber company over whose fault it was speaks volumes. And as always the work was beautifully done. read more

We were referred to Greg/SLP by another contractor (window guy), and I feel so fortunate. Greg submitted a comprehensive yet reasonable bid, which we chose. His crew (friendly, responsible, hard-working, and a general pleasure to have around), let by Adam (who was fantastic) showed up first thing on the day that Greg had told us work would start. They estimated that the work would take two weeks. In spite of several substantive additions that we chose (they were not upselling, but we could see how much better our project would be with some important changes), they still finished exactly two weeks later. Every morning at 8:00 a.m. the work would start -- they were gone and cleaned up each day before we were home from work. It was better than we could have imagined. And now, two weeks later, we have a remarkable new space and toilet. We are THRILLED! When it comes time to do our kitchen, we are calling SLP. read more
