We love the Squirrel Cage! The food is freshly prepared. Amazing appetizers, specials and drinks. The employees are very friendly and helpful. I've also held some smaller group events at the Cage and Brenda; the owner has been very accommodating to what I requested of her. My office and I have held team celebrations there; as well as, just ordering lunches. We've always had great food, conversations, and a fun time. The owners, Brenda and Mike, are very generous in our local communities. They really support our local schools, communities, non-profits, kids' events, and fire & police departments. I can get behind and support any business that gives back like they do. Go to the Cage, enjoy a weekend homemade breakfast, lunch or dinner. I'm sure you'll agree with what I've said in this review. Took several minutes before anyone greeted us when we sat down. Our party of 4 ordered burgers and 1 burger was missing fried onions and 1 burger had fries when onion rings were ordered. Server was apologetic but no offer was made to make it correct. Burgers were decent. Plenty of parking out front. Good pricing on all menu items. German burger was $13 and Squirrel burgers were $12. We were surprised to walk into a bustling Monday evening! We had burgers, fries and soft drinks for two for under $20 (Monday night special menu). What a great business concept because the place was packed! The service was great and the food came out quickly and hot. Highly recommend. read more

Possibly the most un-welcoming bar on earth. The bartenders have the personality of a tree trunk!s (4) I've never seen anything like it and I've written hundreds of good **** reviews. OMG! A local Brewery (5 plus stars) recommended the burgers but the bartenders are not nice. I do NOT recommend this bar if you are passing through. It's a major disappointment and you should avoid if passing through. I've never been of fan of 'cancel' culture but it's recommended to stay away and make better choices. read more

Good mood food. We were starving and they delivered. Waitress recommended the Snow Cap which was a 1/2 lb beef patty with grilled mushrooms, fried onions, Swiss cheese, and sour cream. Met my expectations. Fries were $1.50 extra over the chips. Jalapeño bites were good. Could use with a couple more in the basket. Loved the home-made BBQ sauce. Staff were friendly and the place was clean. Other than the name of the place and some of their food items ("cage burger", "squirrel burger") which bothered me to no end, great place to stop for a hearty meal. read more

Ownership chased the amazing staff out in a cost cutting move to keep the doors open for their other failing bars in the area. Food takes an hour at the least and service is poor with the cheap 18 year olds working instead of good workers. Their new Manager Kim Kukuk will sleep with you if you are wealthy, at least that's what my friend unfortunately found out. It's best you go to Doc's from now on! read more

Waited 20 minutes to get a beer, 5 people in the bar. 7 staff walking around and not paying attention to the customers. We stopped by this bar while we were on vacation visiting a friend as well. This place was the only place opened on New Year's Day. We stayed in Sturgeon Lake, so it wasn't too fat from us. We were really hungry and did not have dinner. It was maybe 9 o' clock. They still have some food that we could order, but their whole menu wasn't available. A man in the bar recommended to order the chicken wings, so we did. Usually wings are tiny and only come with the wing or thigh. These wings were the whole wing and thigh like the ones you buy from the grocery store. It came with 8 big pieces, they were deep fried and it came with your choice of sauce on the side. We also order French fries, jalapeño poppers, and onions rings. As you can see we were pretty hungry! All of it was tasty and not too greasy. If you are ever looking for a place to eat then this place is the place to go in Willow River. read more

We were in at approximately 1pm on a Sunday for lunch. The place was very understaffed, but the bartender was working her behind off to take care of everyone. It was just her and the cook in a rather large establishment. She was nice and friendly, and I had the prime rib sandwich and it was fantastic. Others in my party had a bacon cheese burger and a chicken sandwich. Both agreed the food was great. We weren't in a hurry, and know that almost every business is under staffed. I like places named after animals because I am one (alpaca). So I was really excited about The Squirrel Cage. I am happy to report there were in fact no squirrels in cages, although on a deeper philosophical level I suppose you could say that we are all in our respective "cages", including sitting at a bar held captive by the alcohol vice or in our pens on the farm. (We alpacas like to philosophize.) But on to the good stuff: the environment in the Cage was nice, maybe even a step up from what you'd expect from a small town bar. Nice job squirrels! The food was great - I had the Snow Cap burger which had mushrooms, onions, cheese, and sour cream on it. Messy for sure, in a delectable way. Great portions and a great price. There are some craft beers on tap if that's your thing, or enjoy beer the way it was meant to be in small towns: cheap, light, and watery. Have to give a shout out to our awesome server; I didn't get her name, but she was super nice, did her job well, and complimented the little alpacas with me for not pooping on the floor. read more

Three of us stopped on Monday just before happy hour. Two of us ordered the snow cap burger and oh my :) Besides it being a half pounder...I liked the addition of sourcream on the mushroom and swiss with fried onions. We were stuffed! I picked up burgers to-go today and was not disappointed! The cage burger was cooked to perfection; juicy on the inside, with a nice crispy char. Bacon was curly and just a bit chewy, and the lettuce and tomato were fresh. And OMG! We let the waitress know we were in a hurry she said it would be 20 minutes. 45 minutes later we had to cancel order. The 'ol ball and chain and I stopped by here on the way back from staying on one of the 360 islands by Lake Vermillion. Unfortunately, there were no real squirrels present when we were there but they do have karaoke every 2nd and 4th Saturday 9PM-Close. Did I say we had great time here! Sure did! We've been here 4 or 5 times. We almost always get nice service, though it can be slow at times. They do get pretty busy so we if we're going on a Friday or Saturday night we just figure on being there for a while. It's worth the wait though - they have a large menu (everything from full dinners to sandwiches, burgers, salads, soup and appetizers) and we've always had good food, and the prices are a real bargain. read more
