We stopped in for a quick bite after cabin looking Sunday afternoon. We ordered cheese curds and a half pepperoni onions and black olives half mushroom and sausage pizza. The cheese curds we're square but very good served with marina sauce. Both my wife and I thought the pizza was excellent- crispy crust slightly sweet pizza sauce and good toppings. Lower your standards for this one. The burgers were bland and the fries were your typical season-less potato fries. Took 40 mins to receive our food and a number of things were wrong when we got the order. Waitress was complaining about how the cook was brand new which didn't give us a lot of confidence. Maybe this is considered good food and service up here where there are hardly any restaurants, but in the Cities this would never fly. read more

This place is a throw back bar with great food. The broasted chicken is some of the best I have ever had. The "Wings of Fire" were huge, I mean almost turkey large, and delicious. Burgers, fries etc are very good and as a bonus there is an attached off sale liquor store to grab some beverages for the cabin. Good stuff! read more

(Looks like my sister-in-law beat me to the first review.) I've also been hearing tales of how wonderful their pizza is, comparing it to Red's Savoy (the family favorite in the Twin Cities). I'll admit upfront that I'm a pizza blotter. I don't like tons of grease on my pizza, but have no problem eating pizza loaded with cheese (after blotting, of course). While I think it's better than delivery pizza (Domino's/ Pizza Hut type), I wouldn't say it's something to rant about as they do. I do enjoy going there when we take trips up to the cabin though, and will continue to enjoy their pizza. I've heard they have awesome ribs on Friday nights. So when we were there on Labor Day we went into town to indulge ourselves, but when we got there at 7pm, they were completely gone. We were a little bummed out, but ended up getting their pizza again. The kids got the chicken strips basket, and the hubs (who stole a few pieces) said they weren't your typical deep-fried business. It was breaded, baked, and really good. I should add too that we often pick up ice here for our coolers (in their attached liquor store), and sometimes fill right next store at the Holiday, making it a nice one-stop place. read more

This place has just your typical bar food. Nothing special about it. Hamburgers are bland and flavorless. The fries are just deep fried potatoes that lack extreme taste. If you drive past this place keep driving. read more

We were up in northern Minnesota for a family reunion and decided to do a little road tripping for a few days. Out of 4 days of just cruising the lakes area the pizza at this roadside tavern was by far the best meal we had (and we ate at the steak house at the Black Bear casino in Cloquet as well, ehhh). This pizza did have crunchy crust and lots of cheese, making it a pizza pie style pizza. Delicious and just the way I like it. The burgers were okay, nothing special. The selection of draft beers including Summit Ale and Sam Adams Summer brew was a nice surprise as well. Side not to Mark - don't forget to change the beer lines, that old line stank is starting to creep into the Summit Ale line at least. Five stars for great food, friendly service, and beer selection essentially in the middle of nowhere! Wendy was the bar tender and only server as there were only 5 other customers in this bar the whole time they were there. Of course, everyone was friendly, which seems to be a Minnesota standard, and they were all interested in our "from Hawaii" story. Mark's Bar is also attached to a liquor store, so we got a six pack on the run. Linnenkugels Summer Shandy is not available in Hawaii by the way. The bar also had a really cool collection of old bottles and beer cans behind glass. I was really tempted to get the $.75 collection of sex toys from the vending machine in the men's bathroom, lol. I wish I had taken a picture of that! Lol. Bathrooms were clean by the way. Thanks for the great stop Wendy, we enjoyed our visit. While we are likely to be back, if you pass through McGregor Minnesota, this place is definitely worth a stop! read more

When I was growing up, every single November my dad and brothers headed north for hunting season and came home not with tales of huge deer (or many tails either) but with tales of pizza. About pizza so huge, it was hard to eat. Of pizza so good, you still tried to. Alas, my being a girl excluded me from such pizza. Thank goodness for modern times and family weekends at the cabin. I *finally* got to try this pizza they'd been touting for year. And the result? Yeah, it's ok. Maybe they hyped it a little much but I was underwhelmed. My biggest dislike was the crust, which was very crunchy and a pizza turn off for me. My hubs on the other hand likes his crust crunchy. I will say that if you like 2lbs of cheese on one pizza and you like your pizza to be crazy hot (temperature, not spice) then this is pizza for you. It reminded me of Red's Savoy, but not as good. Oh, and the bartender lady is a surly one so watch out for her. I really wanted to give it 3.5 stars, but will round up for my brothers' sake. read more

We were on our way to Mcgregor this evening for a little league game and we wanted a quick bite before the game, and the kids wanted something deep fried and tasty, so we all decided to stop at Marks because it was close to the ball field. When we arrived, it was a very laid back atmosphere and friendly customers who all had a quick smile for the kids. The waitress, who was also the bartender was very polite and quick to serve. We ordered a deep fried combo platter, it's a little pricey ($15) but the portions were large and very tasty, the kids ordered mini tacos which was also pricey ($8) and the portion was small, so that was not worth the money. I will for sure stop there again for lunch or dinner if I am ever in the area. read more

While eating with a friend at this bar yesterday, I could overhear a conversation between the bartender and a patron (whom I later found out was a worker at Mark's, who had just gotten off work and was patronizing the business). The phone rang and the bartender stated it was the owner...he spoke with the worker who just got off work and we could hear her say, "no, this isn't chicken, it's my food)... I was completely appalled as I realized the owner was accusing a co worker (who again was no longer on the clock) of stealing food from the kitchen. This should have been done behind the walls and away from patrons. Shame on the owner!!! Perhaps, the owner should make an appearance at his business instead of hiding behind (and viewing from home) over a dozen surveillance cameras he has scattered throughout the establishment. The end result was the food in the bag was nothing she received from Mark's...she purchased ice cream from Schwann's and was taking it home. The owner has no business owning a business and accusing without proof. He is a complete coward in my eyes. I refuse to go back to this establishment based on this particular incident. I also feel uncomfortable being on video surveillance without any signs posted that I'm being recorded. This is a complete disgrace. It's unfortunate because I loved the burger...it was so tasty and one of the best I've had in a long time...this was the same burger the worker being accused of made...SHAME ON THIS OWNER!!!! read more
