Love this little gem of a restaurant. Seems to be laid out like an old Waffle House and is tucked next to a petrol station. A popular spot so it can get quite busy as their is not much seating. The food is quite reasonably priced, as is most of the Mexican joints around Athens, but this place takes home the gold on quality. This place is an amazing place to go to get awesome, authentic Mexican food. They do delivery too which is awesome. The place is mostly cleaned besides the bathroom. The staff are good. Everytime I go I always order a Carne Asada Torta. I try to tell the staff to not overcook the onions because when I don't they tend to overcook it. The bread they use is awesome for the Torta. Ordered 3 tacos with no onions which the cashier did not write down. When I saw the cook put some onions on one taco I told him I didn't want any and he seemed bothered and threw them away. Cashier seemed a bit bothered too told me I didn't say anything. I've worked at a taco shop, which is what I consider this place as, and have been working in the fast food industry for four years now and not once have I made a customer feel like it was their fault regardless of who made the mistake. Putting that aside, the tacos were decent. I am from California/Mexico so I know what real and authentic tacos should be, but these were okay. This place just cracks me up because of the extra cheesy decorations... Plus, it's literally right next to a gas station, which is super random. Sol is living proof that it is possible to find legit Mexican food in Georgia. Yeah, Geeeeeorgia of all places... And gosh, in Athens, too! Who knew, right? People are nice, food is good (though I'd have preferred my veggie quesadilla with a smaller grease pool...), and ummm extra star for the margaritas because I am normally NOT a fan of margaritas, but I like like like 'em here! :) Hmmm I guess the sort of letdown was the salsa - not chunky and flavorful enough for me... Very good and very quick. They are really friendly also, the only thing stopping me from give a 5 star rating is my Texas fajita was kinda skimpy on the meat. In Georgia from Ohio for the Petit LeMans, I don't know if I want to go back. Mexican food is my favorite and in Columbus they are almost all the same, blah taste, crappy inattentive service and overpriced food. This place just happened to be near our hotel. Even though it looks sketchy and is attached to a gas station you can't ignore a perfect score on yelp with over 60 reviews. This place absolutely lives up to the hype. Best authentic Mexican in Athens hands down. Amazing simple Mexican style tacos (no flour tortillas in site!). Best gorditas in town - super crisp and moist. Enchiladas were the best I have had in years! Service could not be any better. Great chips and dip. They also have a homemade green hot sauce - I fought the urge to steal a bottle! Hands down the BEST Mexican food I have EVER had (and I have very high standards when it comes to Mexican cuisine). Not only that, but it was some of the best food I have had in a very long time (since my trip to New Orleans). Wow, I new we were in for a treat when we sat down and saw two huge bottles (very clean BTW) of home made sauces sitting on the table. One was an excellent cilantro cream sauce (light green) and the other...I don't know what it was exactly but it was wicked hot and delicious. I ordered a crazy dish that was like a chipotle shrimp stroganoff dish and it was out of this world. It even reheated well the next day. My wife got an amazing goat meat burrito and my daughter had killer shrimp kabobs. I can't wait to go back! Oh and the service was really fast and Friendly! We drove from Covington to dine here. This is the best authentic Mexican we've had in Georgia. We got the combination plate to sample as much as possible. Rice and beans came out first after the chips. Great salsas! The relleno had an awesome sauce. The enchilada Verde was unique and wonderful. Great taco, tamale and flauta. Oh my, my, my, what a mighty fine tamale! I think I'm safe in saying that Sr. Sol served the best Mexican food I've tasted in Athens so far, edging out Taqueria Parilla by a marinated morsel. It's all about the marination, and the chicken in the tamale, the asada in my taco, and the shredded beef in the flauta all tasted super-yummy! Chips were A-OK, and the salsa started out tomatoey, but kinda grew on me. The red hot sauce in the squeeze bottle on the side really has a kick, so you can bring up the salsa to whatever heat you like. Yes, parking could be a problem in the Shell station parking lot. The interior diner feel didn't detract from the meal at all ~ it was refreshing to see the cooks grilling up meals right in front of you. My boss ordered in for us last week... I had the chicken fajitas. They were a little stingy with the avocado but I get that in this region they're not exactly growing on trees in your backyard. Beyond that I have no real complaints. It was pretty good but not four or five stars good - it's not a place I'd put any special effort in to visiting and I think the only reason I enjoyed it as much as I did is because I wasn't paying. Very authentic.Camerones Al Chipotle are just outstanding. In addition to the regular salsa they have a green and a chipolte salsa in bottles on the table to spice things up. The food is very authentic and very tasty the servers are young friendly and eager to please, prices are low and everything is fresh and tasty. The Broad street location is a nicer atmosphere but this location is close to my home and very clean and pleasant. Sr.Sol is my choice for best Athens Mexican Restaurant. read more

Ok so I think I owe to this place to give it a review. Me and my husband have been going here for over 5 years (back when we where just dating as college students). I love this place and at this point the wait staff knows us. We love coming here. I don't think you will find as clean and friendly a place in Athens for the price. We've never had a bad meal here! The parking situation could definitely be better; it gets so busy on the weekends that it is impossible to find a parking space. But I would HIGHLY recommend eating here.
