Home. That's the one word to describe my experience at 519 W Melrose Street. My now wife and I signed our lease in July 2020 as some of the first tenants from when SRE converted this building from condos into rental units. We originally did our tour and it checked all our boxes: a private balcony, central heat/AC (which is all electric), modern appliances, in-unit washer/dryer, a private parking garage for our car, and close to all the action and the CTA. We loved the apartment, so we went through the leasing process. The signing was straightforward and easy using Docusign. From there, we got the keys and started moving in. Immediately after move-in, the SRE Management team did some fantastic upgrades to ensure 519 W Melrose is a place to call home. Originally, we got Xfinity internet, but received an email saying we will now have Google Fiber internet included in rent! So we used this new internet for the remainder of our time here. The internet worked great and was fast (500 mbps up/down), with minor hiccups during heavy rain and storms. Soon after that, the management team upgraded the call box and building keys to be fobs, which allowed easier entry into the complex. Additionally, they redid the entire carpeting of the hallways, which made the complex look much nicer. These upgrades showed that management truly cares about the building and their tenants. In our five years of living there, we only had about three or four maintenance requests for minor items. For each request, the maintenance team responded immediately and they were always out the next morning to fix the issues. The maintenance team was always super friendly and I enjoyed seeing them - huge shoutout to Amanda for running the requests, and Christian, Neil, and the rest of the amazing maintenance team for being great to work with and talk to. For the five years living there, SRE never raised rent an unreasonable amount - each year it did increase nominally, but moved according to the market rate. We were blessed to find an affordable apartment that checked all of our boxes. Our neighbors were okay - some seem to care about others, some seem to just be annoyed with everything or don't take care of things. Typical for a big city complex. We didn't make much of an effort to meet anyone in our building; however, with the encounters in the public spaces, everyone seemed friendly. Given that the building does not have concrete separating units, occasionally, you could hear your neighbors through the walls/floors. It was never an issue though, even when some of the neighbors are louder at times. Again, just something you get used to living in a large city, and nothing against the complex overall. I've lived in many different apartments and houses over the years, and this apartment was the only place I have had the feeling of "home" since living with my parents as a kid. It is incredibly bittersweet to leave our home at 519 W Melrose, but we started to outgrow our little apartment, as our small family is now growing. If you are reading this review to see if you should sign here, do not hesitate. 519 W Melrose has been the best place I've lived, and SRE has been the best management and maintenance team I have ever rented from. Truly the best experience I've had with rental management--ever. They're on top of maintenance, quick to respond and pleasant to speak with, they have virtually free internet (1 Gig Google Fiber, and it flies). The apartments are updated with stainless appliances, the utilities cost less considering they run all electric (one delivery fee instead of two with natural gas), and best of all they allow dogs. NO breed or weight restrictions. This was incredibly helpful considering I have a Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull), and anybody with any dog on the "aggressive" list understands how difficult it is to find accommodations for our little friends. Honestly don't have any intention of leaving until I decide to purchase. (I apologize for the run-on sentences, but I'm not going back to change them now.) Highly, highly recommend. read more

I can't state this enough: they are so quick to respond, so helpful, and flexible when possible. SRE Holdings handled COVID-19 in a way that made me feel safe and understood as a tenant. They offered everyone 10% off their rent for MONTHS even before the Shelter In Place was first set, and had the handles and railings disinfected multiple times a day. They also allowed me to break my lease when I lost my job due to COVID and had to move out of state. I stayed in my unit for 13 months and would have stayed under normal circumstances. I loved that they do not have breed or size restrictions for dogs, which allowed me to adopt my puppy while living there. We lived in Rockwell Commons for 1 year and had pleasure staying there. If we had any issues or concerns of anything they responded very fast. Once a simple noise kept bothering me from the roof (we lived on a top floor) and you know what, they found that weird noise and fixed it. On the next day. I was impressed. But the most important for me personally is that they are pet friendly and kept fair objective policy toward pets. When we moved out they evaluated our apartment clear objectively. The laundry is always fixed, in winter it always clean, the management cares. So recommend! read more

This is the best properties company I have ever rented from. I recently moved but rented at Rockwell Commons for 5 years with my husband. The property was always kept up (snow clearing on side walks first thing, landscaping, painted doors and fences). They were also extremely responsive. We didn't have many issues, but once emailed about one of the washers not filling with water. They had someone come out and fix it first thing the next day. I also left my keys at home one time and called them. They were there within 15 minutes to let me in and even waited a moment to ensure my keys were inside. They are super polite, organized, and all around great landlords and just seem like genuine people. read more

During COVID they have handled it very professionally, they made discounts in rent for the first months and if any urgent maintenance was needed they will always make sure to wear a mask and maintain distance. We just signed on for our sixth year with SRE, and we could not be happier renting with them. The building is maintained very well, and they are incredibly responsive and prompt! The maintenance team, in particular, is AMAZING! They are beyond friendly, courteous, and get things done! For example, last year we had the apartment painted and not only did they do a fantastic job, but they also did it in no time! SRE purchased our building on Melrose in January 2020. As a former condo owner who stayed, I've witnessed the vast improvements they've made including landscaping, parking lot repairs, security/safety features and replacing the elevator. In my unit, they made a handful of minor repairs, I hadn't gotten around to fixing myself, within a hour or two. They've been extremely forthcoming and responsive. I LOVE living at 550 Sheridan Square! We've been here more than 10 years, yet it seems like yesterday when we moved in. It's like being on vacation 365 days a year because the lake is right across the street. The building is well taken care of, free laundry, very pleasant managers/ employees. Very happy I choose to live here in the Fall of 2012. Located at 6341-6343 N. Wayne near Loyola. Management responds to concerns and issues immediately. Manager on site and makes for a safe and cooperative environment. Helped put a garden in the back and the building definitely has evolved over the past few years to become a home. Neighbors care about the building, the plants and the overall safety. Rent is extremely reasonable for Chicago. Windows were replaced this Spring. Made a huge difference. Hard wood floors, storage, green grass, gardens and laundry in the building. Tree lined street and parking available behind the building. The neighborhood has improved immensely. I love love love living in Rockwell Commons and SRE Holdings is a wonderful property management group. Any time there is an issue (which they are few and far between) maintenance is very quick to respond and my troubles are always resolved within the same day. They give ample notice of when they will need access to your unit for regular maintenance things, and they leave my space perfectly kept- I wouldn't even know if they came in or not. I can't say enough good things, I hear horror stories from friends about their property management / landlords being awful, but I have found a gem here in Lincoln Square with my apartment and such a great property management group. Aside from the management group, my neighbors in the building are all wonderful as well. People say hi to each other! This is my first time living on my own and they have exceeded my expectations of how a tenant should be cared for. They've set the bar so high! My rent is reasonable, my apartment is honestly so cute and although it is a studio I feel like I have so much space. They are also pet friendly here which is a huge plus for me. I love living in this space so much I renewed my lease for another year and will probably stay here for as long as I can :) Other little positives that mean a lot to me: they plowed the walkway / sidewalks around the building very shortly after it snowed a ton, they take care of the little flower pots outside of the main entrance, there is laundry on site with a good amount of washers and dryers available to use. This is long over due. I lived at the 493 Sheridan Rd building in Evanston for over 5 years. The only reason I left was because they decided to rehab the building. I can not say enough wonderful things about this company. If you plan on living at this location you are in for a treat. Victor is the maintenance person and he is amazing. He can fix anything and is nice as can be. Really the whole staff is incredible especially Jeff! They are professional, quick to accommodate any maintenance issues, and clean up after they are finished. I have lived in many places and this by far is the best maintained place. SRE Holdings had to deal with two sublets in our apartment just 1.5 months after starting our lease due to two roommates receiving job offers in different cities. They even fixed our bathroom shower on a Saturday night shortly after we sent them an email explaining the issue. We are renting in Evanston on the lake. SRE Holdings is straightforward to work with and has been very responsive. Lease signing and maintenance requests are done quickly on-line (and people come quickly to the unit to fix things). I can't say enough great things about this management company! I just renewed my lease for another year because I've had such a fantastic experience not only with the quality of the apartment, but the staff at SRE. When I was first apartment shopping, they made the process SO easy and answered all of my questions thoroughly. It was an easy choice to sign a lease. I live in a studio, but it's still very spacious, and the price is seriously unbeatable-especially for the area. There's also free laundry in the building, which has been a game-changer. If I ever have any issues, I can submit a maintenance request and it's usually completed that same day. At one point, I even locked myself out of my apartment late one evening, and Jeff drove almost an hour with a spare to let me back in. The maintenance team always clears off the sidewalks and courtyard when it snows in the winter. Even when we had over 10 inches this year, they were out shoveling and making sure all tenants could get around the area with ease.
