I was researching for go karting teams around the Bay Area and SSi was mentioned several times so I decided to give them a try. The team is a family run operation with Jason being the head coach (also a semi-pro racer) and Maria handling all the logistics. I booked an arrive & drive session for their 100cc kart at Sonoma Raceway and the entire experience far exceeded my expectations. The kart was in immaculate condition and fine tuned specifically to my build; I met with them a week in advance to do measurements to ensure proper fitment, which was a first for me. Jason and his crew were giving me solid advice throughout the day, answered all my questions, and even gave in-depth guidance on taking the next steps with purchasing my own kart. I'm adding to my review of SSI Racing School. I now give the school 10 out of 10 +1 for their Time Attack competition which just finished up with Round 5 in San Jose. Fantastic facility to hone your driving skills! For the serious racers: Jason gave me valuable pointers that got me to multiple podium finishes and a shot at the championship this season racing in the NASA BMW spec series! For novice, this is a must before actually going to the track by familiarizing yourself with race track and car controls on the simulator. You will learn way more when you are actually driving at the track afterwards. Kid you not, I really learned how to race on PC racing games back in the 90s with primitive graphics. So I can't imagine how much you can learn on the sim at SSI! read more

A great way to gain seat time. The simulator feels very similar to a real car. The instructor, Jason, is patient, precise and has a really nice way of teaching,motivating and instructing. He gives a lot of valuable pointers that translate to real fast laptimes on the track. Unless you have a feel for the simulator , its hard to explain how precise it feels to a real car. I went there specifically to practice heel-toe but ended up learning a lot more like threshold braking, rate of steering input , etc. I would recommend you all to give it a try irrespective of your skill level as it is actual seat time and training at 1/10 of the cost compared to doing it in a real car.(Yes, you cannot substitute a real car for a sim, but its a great way to start off) read more

My six year old was interested in karting and I was looking around for a karting facility with an instructor. Not only was it hard to find an instructor, none of the karting facilities allowed kids younger than eight on karts. That's when Jason Shadd and I connected. SSI Racing has a mobile simulator setup running Assetto Corsa where anyone from a novice to an experienced racer can learn and train. He made adjustments to the simulator settings and the physical setup so that the brakes, pedals, and steering wheel are reachable and the seating comfortable for a young child. The sim itself has dozens of tracks and cars to choose from and configure according to your goal and expertise. Jason is not only technically astute in racing terms, he has the ability to break down the steps, explain them clearly and work upon a program incrementally. You can learn all about finding the proper racing line, braking and handling, controlling the entry into and hitting the apex during the simulator sessions. And all this while being extremely patient and making the experience fun and enjoyable. TL;DR: I highly recommend SSi Racing School to all developing kart and car racing drivers. Their simulator program is a great way to get quality seat time cheaply and safely, learn the fundamentals and improve things such as smoothness of inputs, proper braking, car control, different racing lines and much more. This review is about SSi Racing School's simulator program only. First, about the simulator itself: it's accurate and realistic. Which means that you can use it to gain actual driving skills, learn tracks and car control. Once I got used to it, driving wasn't any different from how I'd drive on a real track. Same errors lead to same consequences as in real life, smoothness of inputs is equally rewarded, etc. You can be nitpicky about the specific equipment, but the bottom line is that Jason's simulator works just fine so that you can focus on the actual point of the program: driving school and coaching. Big note about "getting used to". Don't let the first try fool you because you WILL miss the "butt feel of the car". However that feeling disappears very soon, and then you can focus on actual driving. It's just a matter of practice. Second, about Jason's work as a coach. This is the biggest value of the program. In general, having any skilled racing driver next to you in a sim is EXTREMELY useful: you get instant feedback, access to data and ability to iterate on your work 100x faster than in a real car. What I really like about Jason's approach in particular, is that he focuses on fundamental skills and helps you become capable of analyzing tracks and driving behavior yourself, at any track, in any car. SSi Racing School has helped me immensely with learning a racetrack before a real life event, and with my driving skills & knowledge. I really admire the professional level coaching, especially through the radio setup.
