Awesome korean comfort food. The steamed egg is a kids favorite. Samgye Tang is also super yummy especially in a cold winter day!

Great food. Friendly staff. Always come back when we are looking for asian comfort food.

Such good authentic Korean food!! It's hard to find in Chicago so I'm glad there is a place to get chicken ginseng soup. The cold noodles was so flavorful and yummy. The bulgolgi was okay but would definitely come back!

We ordered Uber Eats for lunch and tried: - Seafood Pancake - Cha-O-Reum Samgye Tang - Yukgae Jang At first I was questioning the prices, but the portion size doesn't miss. Everything was essentially two servings. Surprisingly the seafood pancake was my favorite, it was absolutely packed with shrimp, octopus, and more. I wouldn't personally say the Yukgae Jang was spicy. It reminded me a bit of kimchi spice, but it was still good. Definitely give them a try, especially when it's cold outside!

I ordered delivery. The food was exceptionally delicious. The fried dumplings were nicely filled and flavorful. The BBQ beef ribs were so well seasoned. They were delicious. The Royal Rice great. Nice serving of all ingredients. The beef and rice cakes were very tastes Definitely ordering from here again.

The food here comforts you and makes you feel like you're getting a lovely home cooked meal. If you're looking for authentic Korean food, then this is the spot for you. The owners give it a cute mom and pop feel. We ordered their signature chicken soup with ginseng and herbs. It had a lovely aroma that felt like it could cure your body and soul. It was a little on the pricey side, but we did enjoy it. The grilled mackerel was extremely flavorful and a bit salty, but it paired so nicely with the white rice it came with. The steamed egg was fluffy and warm; I highly recommend getting this on the side. The banchan were tasty and a good pallet cleanser. The service wasn't bad; the lady took our order pretty quick. She got straight to the point and didn't seem as welcoming. I wish we knew if we could get a refill on the banchan, but I wasn't sure enough to ask. The ambiance is very simple; there are a lot of ginseng references in the wall. They pride themselves on using it, so I love that! It's a small restaurant on the corner, but I love the vibe it gives if you're looking for a simple comforting meal.

I had this place bookmarked and finally went with a friend and we had such a delightful meal here. I liked the banchan, especially the tofu skins. But my absolute favorite thing was the seafood pancake (haemul pajeon). My friend loved their samgyetang (the chicken soup) that I'd heard they are known for. I probably would skip the sweet beef stew soup I got (I forgot the name), but I'd definitely come back here. I also liked how crispy their mandu was, and I don't always like the mandu at other restaurants.

The food is very tasty very tender and nice portions service was excellent and the ambience of the place gives you a taste of nostalgia retro New York Overall, I would recommend this place if you see it and you think that it is a shut down warehouse trust me it is not food is priced relatively well and again services pretty speedy. The waiting staff is very patient and they do not overwhelm you constantly asking you if everything is OK until you can get your food in your mouth, but yes eat here. Come here and enjoy.

Really delicious! Took my friend out for lunch last weekend. I've been to a lot of the Korean restos in the area, but not this one. We kinda went all out...we got the chicken and ginseng soup they're known for, pan-fried mackerel, steamed eggs, and japchae (because I love it). Everything was absolutely delicious. We rolled out of there completely stuffed, but not in a gross way.

Giving this spot a 3 since we came for the Korean fried chicken but they sadly no longer have it. Their service is fairly good and the restaurant is spacious. There are a few parking spots behind the restaurant but other than that it is street parking. For food I would recommend getting at least their seafood pancake. I would say it is one of the best I've ever had. Other than that everything else was standard Korean food.

Their Samgye Tang is so good...I'm still craving it now... My friends and I ordered a seafood pancake, a stir fried squid, and one Samgye Tang for each of us. All were so amazing!!! The only thing that we were not super satisfied with was their service speed. We waited for nearly a half hour for the dishes to come. Others were good, especially their dining environment, not greasy like some other places at all.

This Korean restaurant is very clean and the food came out very fast. The food was fresh and the food was very good. Not salty and very healthful. The bibimbop veges were really good and authentic and super fresh. And I am mostly vegetarian but can eat high quality low fat beef or chicken. And the beef in the bibimbop was super low fat and very tasty and not salty but still flavored like bulgogi. There's another room for diners which can also act as a private party dining area if needed. The bathrooms were very clean also with paperless hand drying and it was odorless. They even had a bench inside that came be used to place bags or to sit. This place has great food and it's very clean and the parking on the street is free. Will definitely come back.

Service and food was so fire ! Great hang out spot to catch up w friends! it was pretty empty when we came so the ambience was very chill and cozy

Considering I am from Texas, I will admit I can be a little particular when it comes to BBQ, but this was pretty good BBQ, especially this far north. The brisket, pulled pork, rib tips, and sausage all brought something different, and the variety made the meal feel like a true sampler experience. The sides were just as good. The mac and cheese, red beans and rice, collard greens, apple slaw, and cornbread all had that comforting soul food feel and paired really well with the BBQ. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you are in Evanston and looking for good BBQ and soul food.

They will soon be expanding the space to include a bar and more tables. I am from California, so I look forward to see what they do to the place when I get back. I ordered the Etoufee Egg Rolls, Wings, and Jambalaya. My cousin ordered a burger, and his son ordered the Mac and cheese. OMG - the egg rolls were incredible. It came with a roumalade that I think they need to bottle up and sell. It's the kinda sauce you'd want to put on everything. I liked the texture and flavor of the wrap and omg the flavors tasted like they were wrapped in love. Chloe, the owner, told us that the jambalaya ones are even better. I was already ordering the jambalaya so I opted for the etouffee to get a wider variety of flavors. I ordered the wings with the lemon pepper and buffalo seasoning. The combo was a little salty, but good. That roumalade with it was bombacious! The jambalaya won my heart. It gave me the warm fuzzies because it felt like a beautiful story unfolded with every bite. So many flavors to take your tastebuds on an incredible journey. Love that the food is cooked in beef tallow. You can taste it in the fries. Quality-wise, the greens were the standout- everything else was just average. Honestly this would be a solid 4 stars instead of 3 if the seasoning was more consistent. The cornbread tasted like it came from a box. The mac and cheese was wetter than I like it. The chicken was bland in most spots, though the bites that did have seasoning were genuinely good. For the price, I'd only come back if I was really craving this kind of plate, because you just can't find soul food like this nearby. It reminded me of a typical Sunday dinner from your aunt who can definitely cook, but I wouldn't call it restaurant quality- it fills a void. Given the flavor was lacking, I'd say the plate would earn 4-stars and $25 price tag ($30 if including delivery fees) if it also came with a side of yams. Wings, yams, greens, mac, cornbread.... The yams is what would be included in the Sunday dinner anyway. Adding the yams would certainly compensate for the lack of flavor, provide more depth and give the meal some closure.

I ended up ordering the smokey joe sandwich (vegan sloppy joe sandwich), with a side of mac + cheese, and a sprecher soda. Whether I'm using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it's so convenient. I also want to praise my delivery driver for arriving at a reasonable time with my order and meeting me right in front of my residence. Grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again is very high. As for my order, my first response after my first bite of the vegan sloppy joe was, "Mmm, that is good!" If you are a foodie like me, then you know what the next few minutes--or, better yet, seconds--consisted of. Yes, I pretty much devoured that vegan sloppy joe, leaving nothing behind but what was left on my fingertips. The last time I had a vegan sloppy Joe was a few years ago in celebration of my birthday, and trust me, it wasn't as good as this one at Soul & Smoke. It could easily be confused with real meat if you aren't aware that it is vegan. I saved the side order for last, which was that delicious-looking mac and cheese. Mmm... "Oh my God!" was my initial response after my first forkful, which was lightly seasoned with a delightful taste. I must say it was the perfect side for the vegan sloppy joe. After my last bites, I had the slightest grin on my face, and the only thing on my mind was that I will definitely have it again in the future. The sprecher soda - cherry cola was the perfect complement to my meal. Introduced to me by Soul & Smoke, I am so pleased with this award-winning craft soda from Milwaukee's oldest craft brewery that I will be on the lookout for it in the future. I would gladly order from Soul & Smoke Avondale again, whether online or whenever I am in the area. With that, I am happy to share my endorsement of it with you all here on Yelp. We get there and there is a cute young girl who greets us with an apron and chef's hat on. She seats us and takes our order - she was our waitress which surprised us. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup to have before my meal. I'm glad I got a cup and not a bowl. The cup was only half full. The soup was lacking flavor so I added pepper. The woman who is GrannyMa delivered the soup. She didn't speak to us or anything the entire time while we were there which didn't feel too nice. They were sold out of the beef liver, beef shortribs and sweet potatoes. We ordered the fried chicken (menu states it takes 20-25 minutes for the chicken) and the salmon croquettes. Each dinner comes with 2 sides each so we got the macaroni and cheese, green beans, dressing and mostaccioli (slight extra charge for the mostaccioli). Fried chicken was crispy and delicious! Seasoned well. The croquettes were good also - they give you two big patties in the dinner. We weren't impressed with the green beans as you can tell they came out of a can. The dressing was only okay. The mac and cheese was pretty good but the best side was the mostaccioli - it had a layer of cheese on top and was really yummy. I wish I had gotten that as a meal, it was that good and highly recommend it. For dessert I got the peach cobbler sundae which is peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top. The cobbler sauce was very thin. I like cobbler that has alot of flaky crust but this didn't have that but it still was good enough to eat the whole thing. The young girl brought us our bill. The prices are so reasonable for what you get. Our bill was only $62 with tax for all of what we had. The place is bright with warm colors inside. We conversated with the son-in-law to GrannyMa's, he was very nice and personable. Although the young girl was sweet, I felt some kind of way of her being our waitress because clearly she is underage to be working. We were told they have a Sunday brunch from 11-3 that includes a DJ. To my friend and I, the food overall was either hit or miss. One review mention about GrannyMa engaging them in conversation - she never came over to our table except to drop off the soup and she is the owner of the restaurant. Not a good way in customer service if you ask me. Overall, okay.
