Cute local small family owned and run bakery. All the locals hang out here. Wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth and grab a few things to go with our coffee in the morning. I loved the flavors, things were sweet but not overly sweet. The blueberry muffin was moist and packed with blueberries. The raspberry pie was delicious the crust was perfect. The pretzel is huge and freshly baked, was still warm when I got it. I love gingerbread cookies and these were soft and tasty! All the employees were very friendly and helpful. I will admit the local customers do not give off friendly vibes, but it didn't bother me. If you're in the area I strongly recommend you visit this local gem! read more

After my first visit, I'm disappointed I didn't step in sooner! I really appreciate that they allow you to use your own mugs for coffee. The space reminded me so much of the from-scratch bakery of my childhood. It seems like a popular hang out for the kids who go to PEA. The lady behind the counter was so sweet and helpful. I ordered a slice of their pizza to go (spinach and feta). It was absolutely delicious! The coffee was also great. I will be back next time I'm in Exeter and look forward to trying something new. read more

Service at the counter is a bit slower to outlanders who do not get the same treatment as the locals and regulars who make up a majority of the business. I love St. Anthony's! The staff is extra friendly and caring, and the breakfast food and drinks are delicious. It's also very affordable. We went for coffee and a bite to eat on a Saturday morning at 10:30 am. There was literally 5 things in their bakery case. I had a blueberry scone that was as dry as a bone, with no flavor. My daughter had a egg sandwich with flubbery bacon. The coffee was in a canister, self serve and very weak. Inside was pretty tacky looking. Kind of dirty, with stuffed animals stuck behind some of the tables and on the a windowsill. I would no go back again. read more

I am so happy I discovered St. Anthony's in Exeter. I ordered 30 cupcakes and several dozen cookies. Their customer service was great, the baked goods are pretty and delicious and reasonably priced. I cannot wait to try their sandwiches and salads. I am really impressed! read more

I love this place! I'm sort of a bakery snob. Real, high quality bakery food will not be sickeningly sweet. The food here is always fresh and the breads are awesome. I try to go on Saturdays (fits my schedule best) about early mid-morning. Any later than that and they tend to run out of the frosted cinnamon rolls that I so crave! At about 9AM they pull the giant pretzels out of the oven. I've never had a disappointing pastry there. Anthony is super polite (though some of the young women who work there could take some cues from him in that regard) and friendly, even if he is not a Red Sox fan. If you like the Panera style bakery, this is not for you. If you know what real bakery food is and should taste like, you will love this place. Parking can be a bit of a challenge because of the location, but only because of the awkward design of the road. We've never NOT been able to find parking. read more

The men's group at our church received a donation of baked goods from here during a recent event. It's technically known now as St. Anthony's Bakery but the sign out front still says Baker's Peel. It's located next to a barber shop on the west end of downtown next to the Thursday farmer's market. I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses that support local non-profits. I stopped in on a Tuesday about 11:00 a.m. The place was packed with coffee drinkers and a couple of early lunch folks. They serve coffee, baked goods and sandwiches as best I can tell. Their selection of baked goods is pretty small BUT..... what they do have is delicious and fresh. They had some seasonal pumpkin cookies that were great. I got a fresh baguette for dinner, still warm from the oven. The owner is a young guy with lots of personality, chatting it up with a number of local regulars (Yankees fans I think...) He was taking a special order for some bread to be picked up the next morning, pumpernickel with a hard crust and extra seeds. The other girl behind the counter greeted me quickly and answered all my questions. Their cinnamon bun with a light orange cream cheese topping is evidently a longtime standard and is very tasty. As I said, I think the place would be well served to go deeper in their selection but what they do have is done very well. Parking is on-street although I did see a pretty big lot behind their building. It's the kind of place that contributes well to the downtown flair of Exeter. I could not find a website. read more

Finally, a REAL bakery. For those of you who dont know what a REAL bakery is - this is IT. I come from a place that is full of little local bakeries, just like this one. Sure, they may not have a plethora of baked goods - and thats most likely because they dont have the huge turnover. Whats the point of baking a ton of stuff if if you dont have the volume? I am a bit partial to this bakery because the owner is from Brooklyn, as am I. And yes, as another Yelper pointed out - Yankees fans. (um, big deal, was it THAT important to point out? Geez.) Little place with a few tables, that in my mind get sunshine in the morning. If not, I apologize, but it's warm and cozy, usually a few people reading newspapers, steady takeout, the standard green mountain coffee, very good pastries, sandwiches and bread (typically pricey, too). They'd get 5 stars except their cake baker left a few years ago and I still can't find any place that makes as kicka*s of a birthday cake, and as many varieties, as she once did. Bakeries are a rare commodity so when I find a good one, I tend to return again and again. This little gem serves your standard baked goods along with breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I've only had the breakfast sandwiches. They taste as if you had prepared them at home. Compare them against anything Dunkin's is making and you'll see what I mean. I've tried a few of their baked items and they are very good. They serve up a delicious apple strudel which is fantastic, although it has more of a pie crust as a base than real strudel. I am new to town and have found a little haven at St. Anthony's, which provides the perfect excuse for a walk in to town. St. Anthony's is a fantastic little bakery--their staff is friendly and eager to help, the atmosphere is quaint, the coffee is hot and the pastries are delicious. I have tried the almond croissant, chocolate croissant, apple turnover, raspberry turnover and sfogliatelle; each was fantastic, flaky and fresh. They seem to rotate out the selection, offering changing options, which is refreshing for a regular. In summary, St. Anthony's is an awesome little shop that will turn all of the doubters to converts. Try it! read more

We had good quality sandwiches, italian and Thanksgiving (turkey with cranberry). The breads were fresh and homemade, white for the turkey, and a bun for the italian sandwich, although somewhat plain. We didn't try the pastry, but it was nice that they had a good selection of drinks, everything from sodas, to good quality bottled iced teas to San Pellegrino Italian sodas. I recently went to St. Anthony's Bakery to meet a friend and have coffee. I ordered scrambled eggs and a ham and cheese croissant and coffee. Wow, wow and WOW to each item! The coffee is dark, rich and strong, the eggs were perfect and the ham and cheese croissant was pure and simply fabulous. I have also had their chocolate croissants, which are divine, their almond croissants--delicious, and their elephant ears--out of this world!!! I plan on visiting at least once a week to try new items there. If you have never tried St. A's, then do yourself a huge favor and GO! Waited in line for breakfast sandwiches- saw the woman cooking crack raw eggs into the hot plate (which she balanced on various things to get it level) and without washing her hands, pick up an avocado and slice it, and arrange it on a plate. In New Hampshire for the first time and we have gone here every day for lunch since we have been here. The sandwiches are amazing! I get the thanksgiving all year on their house made rolls and it's seriously the best sandwich I've ever had. I give thanks to Saint Anthony's Bakery for its Thanksgiving All Year Long sandwich on store baked 7 Grain Bread. I love this sandwich but never found perfection until this one. The homemade dressing made it unforgettable and the bread held up when I ate the second half of the sandwich the next day! I am looking forward to my next visit and resisting temptation so I can try another sandwich which I am sure will also be awesome! St Anthony's is by far the best place to eat breakfast and lunch in Exeter, NH. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the people who work there are very warm and welcoming. For breakfast, the bakery makes the most wonderful almond croissants. Just the right size! Same with the very fresh muffins. The blueberry muffin is out of this world. Again, just the right size!
