For Sunday breakfast I stopped by Trackside Cafe. At 10am, a decent line had formed waiting for tables. My friend and I opted for counter seating, which had immediate availability. I ordered the loaded sausage omeletee ($14.99). This came with choice of home fries or beans (I opted for the home fries) and toast (I opted for rye). This arrived w/in 5 minutes of ordering. The portion size seemed reasonable, and everything tasted simple, savory, and homely. I would ask for nothing more at a quiet neighborhood diner (and one attached to a convenience store, at that). Service proved pleasant, with coffee proactively topped up. The waitress offered to fill up a to-go cup of coffee at no extra cost as I settled the bill . As an aside, one of the parties waiting for a table came straight from the Sig store & range. I imagine that events or competitions there would lead to a surge of patrons. read more

Holy pancake! Just had breakfast here for the first time with my husband. Food was delicious and service was very attentive and friendly. As someone has previously mentioned, the pancakes are generously sized. I enjoyed a half order of "The Exeter." A classic greasy spoon diner. I do agree with a previous reviewer the place could use a fresh coat of paint, but that didn't especially bother me. We'd likely come again. read more

This is hands down the best food/restaurant in Exeter New Hampshire! It is a tiny cafe in the back of a corner convenience store but man this place had the best food! It is an older restaurant and it has a real long counter you can sit at in addition to a few tables in the back. Everything they serve is made fresh by one cook in the kitchen. I had the biscuits and gravy with two eggs and sausage, it was so good! Fresh homemade biscuits were so good! 10/10. My date had a Omelette, I don't remember which one but he loved it! He also got a his English muffin grilled which was delicious! I tried a bite, never had it that way before! I have been missing out! The service was great! Very friendly waitress who gave us a to go cup of coffee when we closed out our bill. This is a local favorite and an amazing small business that you must try if you're in the area! This is an old fashioned diner with a long counter and some tables in the back. The hostess and the waitress are just wonderful people and greeted us with a smile and served us well. We had the vegetable scramble which was good and I'd rate it four stars but we had the breakfast burrito and it was dry and I'd rate it two stars. But what got me was the place. It's just dirty. The walls are dirty. The floor is dirty. It just needs to be cleaned and painted. I don't like eating in a dirty restaurant and with a food only being mediocre. It was only the wonderful waitress and hostess that would ever bring me back. read more

This place is a great spot. We went there on a Sunday morning and there was a small wait. They do a great job keeping you updated on the timing. We were visiting the area from the NYC area and looking for a good breakfast spot. It was a small quaint diner in the back of a convenience store. The food was very good (definitely home cooking !) for the price and the staff and service were phenomenal. The pancakes were HUGE! A little bullying with your breakfast? While meeting four others at this café I arrived to find three already waiting but not at a table rather in the hallway to the bathroom. One of the ladies was pinched by a man going into the bathroom and almost again by him on his way out. I then asked the hostess/cashier if we could please go sit at the table her reply was wait till I get to you and don't bother me. After a few seconds went by she looked over at me and accused me of looking at her, when I told her I was not she started screaming to the whole cafe she knew I was looking at her. This was very unsettling and frightening. Our waitress was nice the food was ok, atmosphere a bit dingy. But the reception was alarming and unprofessional.. There are many nice places to eat in the little town of Exeter where you can be greeted with a smile and a pleasant hello. Bullying is not acceptable! read more

The Trackside Cafe is a full service breakfast and lunch place located inside the back of Gerry's Variety, right next to the Exeter Amtrak station. The menu offerings include eggs, omelettes, pancakes, sandwiches, salads, soups, and grilled items. Coke products (by the can) and Donahue Bros Coffee are offered here. Daily specials are offered and the prices here are pretty reasonable. Tollhouse (choc chips & walnut pancakes) and chili cheese dogs were some specials offered. The atmosphere is a bit noisy due to many conversations going on and echoing. Amtrak trains can be seen rolling in and out of the station through the window. It took a few moments to be waited on, but I was offered coffee ($1.25) and I ordered immediately. I had the special Sausage, Pepper, Onion & Provolone Omelette ($5.75) served with home fries & toast (I had raisin). The folded omelette was pretty good, stuffed with tasty fillings (cut sausage patties) and the provolone cheese in the omelette was a plus! However, the homefries were okay, which were deep fried potatoes. The buttered raisin toast went well with the omelette. The service was very attentive and efficient. I was offered refills and topoffs on the hot coffee even after I received my check (note: the board indicates a 2 refill limit on coffee, but the staff kept the mugs full anyways). You won't find a better diner in NH. This tiny restaurant in the back of a convenience store packs a big punch. Locally owned and managed by a talented husband and wife team. Everything is fresh and delicious. We drive 45 minutes just so my husband can have the best hash in the state. Lots of choices beyond breakfast including burgers and salads. During this unique COVID-19 time, they are very conscious about safe social distancing and sanitization of the tables after guests leave. My server, Lisa, was outstanding - very polite, upbeat, and always aware of when the coffee needed a refill. She and her cohort, Tammy, work extremely well together. This place is really great!! The food is really good, the coffee is nice, and the staff are SUPER friendly!! Not to mention, it is cheap and well-kept. It is pretty tucked away, truly one of those hidden gems. Please keep in mind, their portions are really huge, like, seriously large (but tasty!). I've only been here once so far, for breakfast, but I definitely plan on coming back for more, both for breakfast and for lunch! Gerry's Trackside is about as unpretentious as it gets. It's located at the back of a small convenience store, so it's a hole the wall in the back of another hole in the wall. "It's dingy," my sister said, after a safari to the bathroom. But what it lacks in ambiance, it more than makes up for in waitstaff - one wonderful blonde waitress in particular who knows how to give as good as she gets, which is perfect for the trio of which I am a part. She's also efficient as hell - I never see the bottom of either my water glass or my coffee cup. The food is as basic as it gets, but good and plentiful and reasonably priced. The coffee's okay - nothing to write home about, but it, too, is plentiful and hot. I got what I always get - sausage (patties) with scrambled eggs, home fries (it's that or baked beans - no hash browns option), and a grilled English muffin. There are jam packets as well as butter pats on the table, which is also a plus for me. It's nothing fancy, which is just perfect, as far as I'm concerned. There's a ton of parking, but very limited seating, so get there early! And it's cash only, which to me, is probably the only drawback to this place, because I rarely remember to keep cash on me. read more
