I keep trying, but the cappuccinos are still never hot! Why is that? This is the third straight time. The milk is steamed, correct? I end up having to drink it very fast! I come from out of state and love to support local coffee shops especially considering I also work in the same industry. But this girl was giving me so much attitude and dirty looks. The space inside is very cozy, and in warm weather, they have seating outside. They also have a small selection of cookies and the like as a snack to go with your coffee. Went to get coffee this morning went to shoppe when it was opening girl was extremely rude and basically told us to leave because she was still setting up after the time they were supposed to be open . I've had a bad experience here before with the staff, but enjoy their coffee and their sandwiches, but will not be back because of how rude their staff has been to me each time I have been in. read more

Allie behind the counter is great, super friendly and easy to talk to. The drinks here are amazing, had a Matcha Iced Tea, and an Americano last week and they were fabulous. The front area features tall stools and counter space for 4 by the window. The other side of the front door is a low chess tables where I've typically see kids playing or gathering. Seems popular with teenagers and younger, one group had a guitar out once and they sang a song, it was cute. I love that they serve old water in a glass dispenser, with small Mason jars. They also sell stainless steel straws at the counter for $1. Small dishes are also offered. I tried their 3 Poached eggs, tomatoes on English muffins, side of mixed berries for $9. A little heavy on the mayo but some people prefer that. Downtown Exeter always has tons of street parking, with such wonderful personality throughout. D Squared is definitely a more hip spot, the only full coffee shop in downtown besides getting a cup from a nearby eatery. read more

This is a cute little coffee shop downtown Exeter. D Squared has a handful of tables and a small breakfast counter for guests. One wall is composed of exposed brick with local art hanging on it for sale. They offer espresso drinks and small plates at D Squared. I ordered a 12oz mocha to go, which came with a coffee art design on top in a compostable cup. The mocha was delicious and creamy. While I didn't eat anything here, I saw a Benedict type breakfast going out to a table and it looked amazing! They also had a few types of homemade pies in a display case that caught my eye as I was waiting for my coffee. It got a little busy while I was at D Squared so a few people had to wait for their coffee, but the employees were apologetic while working quickly with a smile. Either way- my coffee was wonderful and the staff was very kind. If you're downtown Exeter, I'd recommend stopping in for a coffee for sure! read more

When I first walked in the warm spices they use for the drinks filled the shop. Quite intoxicating. We ordered an Americano, a latte, and two small egg sandwiches from a very nice young man. The Americano was smooth and the boyfriend's latte is the best he's had, it even came with a Christmas tree foam! Egg sandwiches were simple but delicious. The eggs were fluffy and went well with the cheese. They even added tomato which was perfectly salted. Maybe it was an off day for this place or maybe the average clientele is oblivious to terrible service as they savor the free wifi but this was a really bad experience. There was no line when we stopped in to grab a couple lattes to go. The first thing I noticed were the nearly empty bakery racks; both full of crumbs and a piece or two of stale looking pastries. We ordered and walked to the end of the bar. After a couple of minutes of chatting with my friend I looked up and noticed that the young employees were standing around chatting and not making our drinks even though there was nobody in line and no other orders. Right around that same time, a woman we assumed to be the owner (or manager) rushed in and commented on the empty bakery racks, reminding the employees that there were plenty of muffins that could get put out to sell. The employees told her it had been a very busy day and they hadn't had time to put any out. She then asked them if they had any drink orders and they both suddenly remembered our lattes. She seemed satisfied with their mildly improved speed and left the shop. After she left, one employee told the other he didn't know what he was doing (referring to making the drinks) so employee #2 stayed nearby and complained about the owner/manager's passive aggressiveness. After several more minutes, we received our drinks... needless to say, the sort-of-a-barista didn't bother to actually carry them to the end of the bar. As we headed out, I noticed the overflowing trash can and dirty dish bin. Neither latte was any good - one of them, in fact, was dropped at the nearest trash bin on Water Street. The other, 20 minutes after purchase, has barely been sipped. My friend wants her $11 back ... I'd like that 1/2 hour back :( To the owner/manager that stopped in for 3 minutes: maybe you should have stuck around to see if your employees listened to anything you told them; or at least to see if they cared in the least about the state of the cafe. It may be a good option for patrons whose coffee beverages take 20 words or more to communicate. Less needy typescan do better elsewhere. Sorry, but I am underwhelmed with my experiences at D Squared Java. I've been here twice and there won't be a third time. This little coffee shop on Water Street should be a dream come true. Instead, what I find is a pretentious cup of coffee, a cryptic menu to order from, very few baked goods, poor layout for getting served, and vacuous and inattentive kids crafting you an average cup of joe for an above average amount of money that takes an inordinately long time to get. I've never had Pour over Coffee before visiting D Squared Java, but I'm a convert now for sure. Helpful staff, a nice assortment of baked goods and one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had (and I'm a former barista, so notoriously picky about my java). My sole complaint was the music was on the loud end and seemed to be a lot of jam band stuff. One or two songs would have been okay, but hitting shuffle and turning down the volume would have helped out immensely, especially since it makes holding a conversation difficult. I go to D Squared every once in a while to grab something, and have had a great experience every time. I usually get chai tea, and it is excellent. The ambiance is really great in the place. I have never stayed in there to chill (I always get my drink to go), but I think it would be a great environment to plug away at some work on the computer or read a book. The people that work there are always really relaxed and friendly, and make you feel right at home. The prices are a little higher than other places, but that is because the quality is better than other places. So if you want a dirt cheap coffee, go get your Dunkin Donuts and don't come here. But if you want a quality beverage, come to D Squared. It is definitely the best in town. read more

I got an excellent excellent cortado here. Also bought the Ethiopian coffee which was unusually good. (Actually has floral notes--a phrase I never understood or imagined myself saying.). Somebody called this the best espresso in NH and I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case. Try it. read more
