I can not give enough stars for the extremely excellent and enthusiastic care I received from the care team and doctor at Medical Park Tower Surgery Center! First, a big round of applause for Dr. Lee Reichel, who performed the carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand. After the appointment where we first met, I felt 1000% comfortable and confident in his skills. He was warm, humble, and explained the procedure fully so I wouldn't have any concerns. Dr. Reichel, if anyone ever asks who to see for hand surgery, they won't even be able to finish their question before I blurt out: DR. REICHEL!!! The BEST!!! Day of surgery: from the receptionist to the OR staff---thank you, each of you were so accommodating and friendly! Now, shout outs to the medical team: Ashley: in the business office, taking care of business like the pro she is! Thank you, Ashley, for making everything super smooth--from checking in to making my payment for the surgery. You're A+ :-) Madison: the pre-op nurse who treated me like we were best friends, starting with texting me to see if I could come in a few hours earlier because Dr. Reichel had a spot open up. That was perfect because getting the surgery done earlier the day in AUSTIN, TEXAS (108 degrees, y'all!) was a god send! Plus, she is super cheery and fun to text with! You are, also, A+ :-) Michelle: pre-admissions nurse---you were a hoot, you were easy going and super friendly and I appreciate the heck out of you! Thank you! You get an A+, too! :-) Peggy (OR Nurse): you came in while I was in the patient room, and helped me feel happy right away! You showed me how to wear the gown and put all my belongings in a bag for safe keeping; you had such a great sense of humor and I really enjoyed joshing around with you! You are an A++ because before surgery started (after you gently wheeled me into the surgical theatre), you asked me, "What music do you want to hear?" And I said, "My kid, Lili's, music! Flora & Fawna!" and, after figuring out how to pull it up on the speakers, that's what I got to listen to while Dr. R did his magic! Thank you! :-) Eryn (OR Nurse): You win for coolest fabric on the hat y'all nurses wear! I believe you were the one helping Dr. Reichel with the scalpels and other necessary operational tools, so thank you for being a great listener and assistant! My hand is grateful to you for your support and smiles, too! A+ for doing a superb job in being part of the actual surgery! About the surgery: I was given a local anesthetic to deaden the area of my palm and wrist, plus a blood slowing shot so I wouldn't bleed there, either. The actual surgery was a breeze---maybe 30 minutes? The cool thing was Dr. Reichel asked if I wanted to see inside my hand, so I got to witness how my hand works---also, I saw the "bruise" that was causing the carpal along with the "band" they had to sever. It looked like a small man hole (ha ha! I guess it WAS a small man hole, made by a male doctor!) and when Dr. Reichel said he was going to rinse it out, I realized it was the only time the INSIDE of my body was getting a bath. It was so much fun to have conversations during the surgery with Peggy and Dr. Reichel. I don't want to, but if I ever have to, I would definitely utilize Dr. Reichel and his team again! A+++++++++++++ PLUS! It's been two and a half days and here I am TYPING on my computer keyboard! How much more written proof do you need that Dr. Reichel is the fo shizzle?! read more

I came here for emergency surgery, and the first issue I ran into was parking. I spent over 30 minutes driving around trying to find a parking spot because the lot was full, and to make matters worse, someone was taking up two parking spaces by parking terribly. I went into Suite 109 and informed the staff. I even offered to give them the vehicle's license plate number because I felt it was a serious inconvenience, especially for a surgery center where patients need access to parking. I suggested they call a tow truck or have someone address the situation since people coming in for surgery shouldn't have to waste time searching for a place to park. The only response I received was, "Yeah, parking is bad." That made me feel completely brushed off, like no one cared or took the concern seriously. It was very disappointing and unprofessional, especially considering this is a medical facility where patients may be in pain, dealing with emergencies, or on a strict schedule for surgery. Customer service starts the moment a patient walks through the door. Concerns shouldn't be dismissed with a shrug. If staff aren't willing to address issues or at least show empathy, then perhaps it's time to invest in better customer service training. There are plenty of people who would be grateful for the opportunity to work and would take patient concerns seriously. Something needs to be done about the parking situation. Either enforce proper parking so vehicles aren't taking up two spaces, or expand parking if possible. Patients coming in for surgery already have enough to worry about--they shouldn't have to spend 30 minutes searching for a parking spot before their procedure. read more

Parking options are quite confusing and I got trapped a few times trying to do so (no way of going around when there are no open spots). Waiting room was full of bible-beating elderly ladies blasting religious rhetoric on their phones; I asked the receptionist to stop them, but she refused; next time I will simply blast songs with explicit lyrics equally as loud and we'll see who wins. They were even preaching to my husband while I was in the back. Lastly, the nurse who first took me back overshares personal information, which was not solicited, nor desired. To start with, the care I was provided was great, the doctors/nurses were great, and even though I had to lay there in the hospital bed and wait 3 hours for the doctor bc his previous surgery ran later than expected, I still had a good/successful surgery. However, after seeing all those other reviews about unexpected surprise bills people got months after their surgery worried me, but on the day of my surgery they told me how much it would be and we paid IN FULL. We were told that would be it and I made sure I asked for the reason that I saw all those other reviews. It is now almost 3 months after my surgery and today I get a surprise bill for $1,490!!! FOR WHAT??? This is insane. I'm NOT paying it. That's absolutely ridiculous they just spring surprise payments on you. I paid what I owed. This place is TERRIBLE WITH THEIR SURPRISE BILLS. I had a generally positive experience with Austin Surgeons, and the medical staff was excellent and very accommodating. However, my two-star rating stems from my experience with Mari Carmen, the benefits manager. Two days before my surgery, the benefits team contacted me to discuss fees. They informed me that my deductible hadn't been met, and I owed the deductible plus 20% of the co-insurance. One month earlier, during my initial office visit with Dr. Glover, it was determined that I had three hernias. At that time, I paid $1,300 to apply toward my deductible, but the payment hadn't been posted yet because my procedure was scheduled three weeks out. When the benefits team contacted me, I explained that I had already made the $1,300 payment with Dr. Glover's office. I was told to provide a receipt and call back, which I did. The day before my surgery, I left three messages to review my benefits and confirm the payment of the deductible, but no one returned my call. On the day of the surgery, Mari Carmen asked to see me before the procedure. I showed her the receipt from Dr. Glover's office confirming the $1,300 payment. However, she told me I still needed to pay the deductible again through their office. I explained that I shouldn't have to pay twice and that this didn't seem ethically correct. Despite this, she insisted I pay nearly $4,000 or else my procedure would be canceled. This situation was very unprofessional and left me feeling ethically wronged. I was so stressed and upset that my blood pressure spiked, and I almost walked out without having the procedure done. My advice is to give yourself plenty of time to review your benefits before any procedure. read more

I had a hand surgery procedure at this surgery center this week. This wasn't my surgeon's first choice but it was nearby and was completely in plan with my health insurance plan. The building was under construction so access was a little challenging but the scheduling office did a good job of trying to explain how to access from the back off 34th. The lobby/waiting room is small and was also under construction. But these are very temporary issues (December, 2018) that will not be an issue for most readers. Access is central and convenient. The schedulers did a good job of preparing me for the procedure and providing pre and post operative prep and care instructions. Check in was per usual. Most paperwork can be completed in advance. Front desk people were pleasant. I had an early appointment and my scheduled surgery was on time. The RN admitting nurse was pleasant and competent. He did a good job of both explaining the processes he would be performing and stopping to ask what questions I had. He did not appear to be in a hurry to get on to the next patient. When he had difficulty (I have difficult veins for IVs) getting the IV line in, he asked for help with the Nurse Anesthetist who was able to quickly establish. I appreciated his ability to ask for help rather than to keep poking and jabbing my veins! They had good procedures, good checklists. The facility was clean and well organized. The anesthetist team (I'm actually not sure who hires the anesthetist --the facility or if they follow the surgeon?) listened to my concerns and they made modifications to the plan to accommodate my wishes for "minimalistic" sedation. The post op was quick and they didn't take long to discharge. For a straightforward procedure, I would definitely go to this location again. I was completely satisfied. You won't find some of the high level of finish out, snacks and staff to patient ratio at some of the concierge medicine spots but if you are looking for a clean, competent, no-nonsense procedure that is probably covered by your insurance plan (obviously step one is to check that out), this a good option. I arrived at 6:00 a.m. and was discharged to go home at 9:30 a.m. My surgeon is with a completely different business and so I am not including a review for that part of the process in here. This review is just for the day of surgery (excluding the actual operation) experience. read more

However, the staff worked their hearts out to do the insurance company's job and so did the doctor. Instead of rescheduling, they worked well passed closing hours to ensure my care. My son recently had surgery here and our experience was pretty good. We got a phone call the day before to let us know what time that we need to be there and I also had the opportunity to register online so I don't have to fill anything out during check in. Check in was pretty straight forward, I put my son's name down and the nurse called us about 10 mins later to go through payment. By the way I received a phone call few days before the surgery to let us know how much we have to pay out of pocket so I was aware that I need to sort that out or else the surgery won't happen. I can see however, how this can be seen as insensitive and business like for some families. But they are a business and they are not there to run a charity. The waiting room is okay, it's a little bit small and it doesn't look like a hospital waiting room but we make it work. They have WiFi in the waiting area. An hour later one of the nurse called us in and take us to my son's bed. This is where he took my son's bp and other vitals and at the same time he also explained the process and provided him with hospital gown, socks and warm blanket. After that the anesthesiologist staff came over then his surgery nurse. An hour later his doctor and everyone else came back to move him to the operating room. The procedure only took about 30 mins or so but it took for another hour before we get to see him in recovery area and another hour before he's being discharged. We were given post op documents during this time too. Overall I would say everything went smoothly. The surgery area is clean and they run things efficiently though there is a lot of wait in between stages but we are OK with that. I'm deducting one star because of the waiting area and the location was kinda hard to find especially since we had to be there so early in the morning and it was still dark outside. For some reason my GPS kept taking me inside Seton Medical which is incorrect because Medical Park tower is more like next to Seton and across Bailey so I had to turn around. The building and the parking was so dimly lit from the outside and I almost missed the sign that says Medical Park Tower. The parking cost about $6 if you park about 4 hrs. read more

My mother recently was scheduled to have a procedure done here on a Friday and everything was all good and set up until the Thursday before (literally only a 24 hour window before her procedure). On Thursday, they called to inform her of what her share of the payment will be. It was a substantial amount (more than triple digits) UPFRONT before the procedure was even done - despite the fact that she had insurance. This would be understandable without insurance, but with insurance? Something seemed off. When she asked why they didn't just bill her (via mail) her portion of the costs of the procedure, they told her it was their policy to do it this way; when she had asked them (both in the phone call and via email - it's important to note that via phone they stated one price and via email was a different price) to review a copy of said policy, they adamantly refused to provide her with one, citing that it was "against company policy". Luckily, my mother's procedure wasn't anything dire, so she chose to take her health and her business elsewhere. Moral of this Experience: Be advised if you take your chances here and ask immediately upon scheduling what type of "bill" you will have to pay upfront and get it in *writing*. Seems the left hand and the right hand don't know what they are doing when it comes to "billing" with this company/facility. read more

My second one handed review (and I added the business listing, too!). Also, because there wasn't an option past "Health and Medical" for "Surgery Center" or "Outpatient Surgery Center," I'm adding that part here. The abridged version: It's a relatively new, doctor owned facility. The care I received was phenomenal, every step of the way. The registration process was a breeze, most of it being taken care of on the phone a few days before. Everything was very clean, without that "overly clean, what are they hiding" feeling (sorry, been watching a lot of Breaking Bad while out of commission). People were friendly and knowledgeable, genuinely caring and tending to my extreme nervousness and my level of pain. Anesthesia was seamless, I remember nothing from the time the sleep medicine was pushed until I woke up in the recovery area (even then, I'd been there for an hour). When I woke up, I asked for my brother and he and my sister in law were allowed to hang with me while I woke up fully. Anesthesia called me each day over the weekend to check on the nerve block they'd placed. Received a call yesterday from the facility, asking about my recovery, as well. Overall, a great first (and hopefully only) surgical experience! read more

I was told ahead of time all the appointment details and costs that were my responsibility and what my insurance covered. The procedure was explained to me and all the steps that were happening up until the actual surgery started. They also called me To follow up a little less than a week after. I had hernia surgery here on 1/13/2023. I had called days prior and was told the cost for the surgery center would be $3456.24. Self pay/cash. I arrived in the early am for surgery and was told the cost was $3655.42. WHY? What changed in a few days time? The man that checked me in and took my payment (Deran Cody/Animal Kingdom look-alike) said there were no notes about the cost that I was told a few days earlier. Why would there have to be notes? Surely they have a flat rate for the surgery room and it wouldn't INCREASE by nearly $200.00 in a few days. Deran acted as though I was haggling over a penny. To be exact, I had to pay $199.18 MORE than I expected and there wasn't a damned thing I could do about it. MEDICAL PARK TOWER SURGERY CENTER CHANGED THE COST OF MY SCHEDULED SURGERY ON THE VERY DAY OF SURGERY! ***** I advise everyone to record the call, get the full name of the person giving you the cost of your surgery room and be prepared to PROVE what you were told.***** In addition to the dishonesty of the Surgery Center, I had to use the anesthesiologist group that serves the Surgery Center. Their cost was was $1800. $400 MORE than Austin Anesthesiology. The anesthesiologist was a nice lady. However, I never heard from her until the morning of surgery. I was quite shocked when she told me she would be giving me fentanyl and I would have a breathing tube placed. It would have been nice to have this vital information beforehand. I haven't had hernia surgery before and didn't know what to expect as far as anesthesia. My blood pressure went sky high when I was told I would have to be intubated. I knew exactly what my surgeon would be doing for several months. ZERO STARS. 10/10 would NOT use again. read more

Had hernia surgery here today. Surgeon was an hour late and the girls just took over and made it a very good experience. All started with Michelle who checked me in. Then Megan the pre op gal....outstanding. Forgot about Alex who called me a couple days ahead and filled me in on what to expect. Jill, the OR nurse made my wife and I very comfortable with the procedure...outstanding. Kirsten ......recovery nurse made it all seem easy. The previous reviews have nothing to do with my excellent experience this afternoon. Not excellent because I was having cataract removed and I was nervous about it but the part that the staff at medical Park Tower played was really professional and wonderful. It's easy to see that they run a bunch of patients through that clinic. I felt special I felt that I was cared about and I felt that all the attention I needed was directly on me. The only drawback was part of the logistics of running that kind of surgery center I had to wait a couple of hours I wasn't able to eat for 12 hours. I missed my coffee. read more

I can't say enough good things about Medical Park Tower Surgery Center. I had to have my gallbladder removed. I had a surgical consult on Friday May 16 with Dr. Lindsey (who is also awesome). I was in a lot of pain so I wanted the surgery as soon as humanly possible. Luckily MPT had an opening for me Monday the 19th in the morning, which I grabbed. They did the pre-registration stuff quickly and easily and sent me off for my blood work. They made it very clear that MPT is surgeon owned and that my doctor had a financial interest in the surgery center so it was never hidden. It didn't bother me one bit, but I like that they let you know. From the moment we arrived Monday morning, I felt like I was in good hands. They were kind and friendly. I wasn't a terribly nervous patient but I know others are and I really think that they'd put anyone at ease. My mom and friend came with me and they were both treated very kindly as well, which is so important. They ran on time and didn't keep me waiting at any point. After surgery care was excellent. Kevin was the nurse who spent the most time with me in recovery and he was funny and very comforting. He told me when I had passed the test to be able to go home, but assured me that if I wanted to stay longer that I could stay as long as I wanted. I had the option of having my surgery at Seton and staying overnight, but I'm so glad that I didn't. I was home by 1:30 that afternoon and resting on my own couch. I'm so thankful that there is care like this available. read more

I called and spoke to her; she informed me my bill was not really overdue; it had been sent to another patient-so, another person gets my itemized bill, a HIPAA violation. I called and asked to speak with management; the ofc manager was out for several days; when she returned my call, I explained the situation; she said she would research the situation and get back to me. Its 2 weeks later, I'm still waiting for her reply. I feel this is a poorly managed business; I will never return to the center for anything. read more

I had an epidural injection for pain at this location on February 26, 2014. Dr. Esther Yaniv did the procedure. I was informed it was a Dr owned business. The check in was quick and easy. The wait was less than 20 minutes. I was very apprehensive and my nurse was so understanding and listened to my concerns. Every staff member that I came into contact with was kind and patient-focused. They kept me informed of what was going on. They constantly checked on how I was doing. Horrible, small waiting room. They schedule you 1 1/2 hours before surgery, even though all you have to do is sign two sheets of paper. Total disrespect of patients in scheduling procedures. If you have a choice, go elsewhere. The staff is fine, I guess (God forbid if you have a question about anything related to billing , they will intimate that they don't want to do the surgery then...now I know why).. It is the billing process that is horrible. I prepaid for the facility according to procedure and insurance coverage. So far, so good. Two months after the procedure I receive a phone call about another bill. I never received anything in the mail. Apparently, they didn't pay attention to the paperwork and had an address (from God knows where!) that was several years old. The "new bill" almost doubled the cost of the surgery. Nothing unexpected happened during the procedure at all. I asked for an itemized bill to be mailed.. two weeks later, I only receive a "coupon" to mail back with payment.. I call to ask for an itemized bill again.. I request email and give them my email address.. Well, they couldn't get that right either and sent it to a different address than the one I gave. Be prepared...they WILL surprise bill you (aka "back billing"). And of course, if you don't pay, they will send you to collections and put it on your credit report. The procedure was fine, but pre-op was in a cattle call huge room with flimsy curtains with no privacy while discussing procedure 3 feet from someone else. Was amazed at how inefficient this process can be, and how me standing next to my wife a crowded waiting room seemed to concern the lady checking us in. We were called the day before and were told to be there a hour before our appt, only to be left waiting in the reception area for that hour. We were presented papers to confirm from another patient, so this had to be sorted out. We had also filled out the history online, but that seems to have gone missing. A request to look in the system was met with, well, distain. Not the stress free experience you want when getting surgery. Will say that once we got back, Rosie added a few stars, the staff in the back is excellent! read more

II had cataract and lens replacement surgery conducted at the MPT Surgery Center and they did an excellent job. My wife has several medical problems so I have a lot of experience dealing with medical facilities. The MPT Surgery Center people and facility are as good as it gets. Granted the waiting room is kind of small but the medical facilities were clean and had plenty of room. All of the staff members from the pre-admission nurse to the recovery nurse and the guy that called to follow up the day after the surgery were friendly and professional. The procedures started when scheduled and were completed timely but I never felt like they rushed the process. I highly recommend the Medical Park Tower Surgery Center. read more

Absolute nightmare. From the time you check in to the time they kick you out the door, you are nothing but a number, waiting to be rotated out for the next victim in the shortest time possible. In the beginning of January we received a "Refund" check from Medical Park Tower. When reviewing this refund check, there were no details whatsoever. There was no reference to a visit, claim, etc. We have a young child who had surgery at a different surgical center down the street so we assumed this was for that procedure. We deposited the check. A couple days later I decided to contact the number on the refund check to inquire about this refund. I was informed that they are in fact not the surgery center I believed they were and that the check was sent to us in error. I asked how they had my husband's information and was informed that my husband was scheduled for a procedure there but did not follow through with that appointment. I was then told that the refund check was for another patient whose identifier was one digit off from my husbands. I asked more questions regarding this "scheduled procedure that never occurred" and was informed of the date, time, doctor, DOB of my husband, etc.... needless to say, HIPAA laws were never in play with the company. I was then asked to return the check. I informed the person I was speaking to (Juliette, I believe), that we accidentally cashed the check and were more than willing to refund them the money. My husband's only request was that they email or mail us an invoice number or notification regarding the refund so that we had record of it. The refund was a decent amount of money and we did not feel comfortable just sending a personal check in the mail or providing a credit card number. I then received contact from the Office Manager, Amanda Wyse, who told me they could not provide a reference number because there is "nothing to reference" seeing as my husband was never seen. I informed her that they must have something to reference because they sent us a check and I was sure they have a record of it somewhere in their system (Oh, and remember, this check was sent in error due to an identifier being off by a digit). Anyway, she requested to call me back. I received a voicemail from Ms. Wyse who stated that we can come in to pay or send a money order but there is no invoice to send. She also stated that "they" would like to handle this at the "facility level" rather than the "corporate level". This is where things went further south. Ms. Wyse believed she had hung up the phone but unfortunately, she did not. I now have a voicemail of her speaking to someone else in the office about all of "this" and that this is "our fault for cashing a check that doesn't belong to them anyway". Wait! Who sent us the check in error? Oh, and violated HIPAA? Needless to say, I called back and left Ms. Wyse a voicemail informing her that we would actually prefer to handle this at the "corporate level" now and I requested she call me back and provide me with the contact information. Ms. Wyse ended up calling back and stated that she spoke with her CEO, Thomas Harvey, and that he agreed we should handle this with them and that I can do this with her or speak with him. I requested a call from him. We are now 3 weeks out from that date and neither myself nor my husband have received any calls from Mr. Harvey. I called a couple of weeks ago and spoke with Ms. Wyse who informed me that they sent via certified mail a letter to my husband. I asked her what address she sent it to and her response, "to the one you provided me". That is a false statement seeing as I had never provided her with an address. It turns out this letter was sent to our old address where we have not lived since 2015. This is also the address where the refund check was sent to initially. I updated the address with her on this call and she agreed to send a new letter. I also provided her with my email address as she said she would also email me a copy. I then received a call back shortly after in which Ms. Wyse stated her CEO would not allow her to email me the letter due to HIPAA (now it matters). I provided her with my husband's email. Again, to date, we have not received any calls nor any written correspondence. Approximately 2 weeks ago, my husband went to the direct website, medicalparksc.com, to their "contact us" page and sent an email request, requesting contact. Again, crickets. At this point, it appears clear that us returning the money to them is not extremely important, and I would like to note that now a days there are not very many honest people out there who would go to the extent we have to attempt to return the money to them. At this time, I am just more concerned with this facilities behavior, HIPAA violations and business practices. read more
