The stairmasters have been broken for some time now with the first one being broken for 2-3 months. One by one they broke & now they're all broken. I understand gym equipment can break from time to time but the fact that ALL stairmasters are broken, 30% of ellipticals are broken, a handful of treadmills, & the weight machines upstairs are missing pins, broken cables, etc is just pitiful from a gym like this. VARIOUS THINGS HAVE BEEN BROKEN FOR MONTHSSSS!!! The LEAST they could do is communicate to us what is going on & what they are doing to rectify this situation. I usually do not write reviews unless necessary to make a change to the establishment. I hope this review finds its way to someone who can do something Side note: this gym also is starting to have an issue with people hogging machines while doomscrolling on their phones between sets as they are "resting". If that grind your gears, this is a heads up. Side side note: notice how management only replies to "positive reviews"; this is a critical review from an intermediate gym goer(3 years of hypertrophy training) for some context.

I went over to the front desk and told them there was a naked man in the women's locker room just sitting there, watching everyone and he responded that they are legally not allowed to remove him. Please educate me because this doesn't seem right. I told them I usually let my 11 year old daughter go to the bathroom herself and I don't feel like it's safe and yet, YMCA did nothing. I was at the YMCA because my daughter had a game. After her game, I checked the women's locker room (about an hour after I took my son to the bathroom) and the naked man was still there, sitting there and putting lotion on his body. This is not okay. Please be careful everyone, especially those with children.

I highly recommend getting signed up to use the EGym system that tracks your progress on many of the cardio and weight lifting machines on the second floor as it helps gamify the whole experience. The YMCA also uses an app where you can reserve a spot for the classes that are offered which I also recommend doing as many classes are popular and fill up. Changing rooms and bathrooms are kept very clean. Staff are generally helpful and the place welcomes people of all ages. Also with the YMCA membership you can go to other YMCA gym locations in the area which has been a convenient option for me as well. Overall definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a solid gym in the area.

Remodel FOR THE WIN! I almost don't want to leave this review because people should experience the…read moresame awe and wonder I got to yesterday at the reopening, but this place deserves all the stars. I have been a member here for 8+ years. I check in between 4-5x / week. Not only is the place IMMACULATE from literally the freshly painted ceiling to the new floors but they now offer elite equipment and body building machines from brands like Skelecore and Nautilus. They also still have a good amount of the previous hoist machines. Even with all the new equipment the place somehow feels bigger. The spacing is very well done and the flow from entry to the floor is well organized. In addition to the absolutely beautiful cleaning and maintenance, ALL machines are now in working order. There are new hip thrust machines, really nice new machines for back and chest, and the stand out is the epic leg day palace. What was once the basketball court has been converted into a literally haven of RACKS! If you have ever hit this gym during rush hour on a Tuesday you know getting a rack was sometimes a 30-45 minute wait. No more my friends! Racks on racks on racks. They also got a couple new leg presses and tons of new accessory machines. This gym has everything I personally need to hit all body parts and cardio for my split. The weights are varied. There are squat racks and platforms for training Olympic lifts as well as racks with safety cages. There are dumbbells up to 125lbs, cables, treadmills, stair masters, ellipticals and bikes. The group X room is open except during classes. I've tried a few classes here my favorite is Zumba with Maritza. I usually just check the App for the schedule. The pool area is basic and pretty much still the same except a lot cleaner now. There's a sauna and a steam room and a two lane pool. The bathrooms are as clean as you would expect a busy gym bathroom to be. And ten times cleaner than before. A lot of the staff have been here for years and years which speaks volumes. Everyone I have spoken to is friendly and helpful. Shout out to Salde and Sandra who are the best. The manager Francisco has been here since I can remember, is always kind and is very friendly. A couple years ago a better deal than I had been paying for came up and Francisco suggested I let my current membership expire or however it works and I got the yearly for a better price. He is always looking out for members and does his best to hold the ones who don't pick up after themselves accountable. Now that this place is spotless, it will mean that people who workout here MUST take care of the space better! I totally think it's possible but I'm also prepared to be that girl asking you to put your weights back pls. PARKING is easy if you don't go during peak rush hours. Overall the remodel took this gym from a 2/10 to a 10/10 but don't let me convince you until you see for yourself.

Jay in maintence is the hardest working person I have ever met, so kind and helpful. He hustles to keep the broken and malfunctioning equipment and wet area working and is much appreciate by us members. Lana has been extremely helpful as well. The renovations were extremely lackluster. Members were misled or outright lied to about what changes would be made to the gym and wet area. Construction, including jackhammering is still going on, we were told the project would take less than a month. I have videos of the noise reverberating through the wet area and breaking decibel levels for construction codes for San Francisco. The wet area is neglected to a dangerous and unhealthy level still. They claimed they "deep cleaned" it. The disabled lift for the pool and jacuzzi have bed been busted and malfunctioning or completely useless since I started there almost a year ago. They were to be replaced and were not! I have gotten stuck in the pool several times while it glitched. Once recently it broke completely. Thankfully my husband was there, and went and asked for Jay who managed to get it functioning and get me out. I wrote corporate, no answer. The entire building is not up to ADA gym codes and standards. There are loose railing, slippery dirty stairs and railings, mold growing from the spitters who can't follow basic hygiene rules even with a sign right where they usually spit under the lift chair. Then they fling water everywhere after spitting or snorting, and my wheelchair will not drive through the puddles. It is incredible dangerous. The locker room has no disabled lockers, and the one shower stall is not up to code for wheelchair users. None of the doors are up to code and have damaged my wheelchair several times. They refused to fix the broken women's locker room disabled stall's loose then broken toilet seat from September 2025 when I was first injured on it until May 2026 during the renovations. I was moderately injured the 5th time it slipped and one side fell into the toilet and I slipped off into the wall. There are uncovered screws sticking out of the wall connected to the stall next to it that have also cut me twice, and damaged my backpack. Do better, please! Communication there is dismal. No warning or planned closures, changes to schedules, etc. Yesterday the swim school was there when they are not on the schedule. Photos attached. In the summer we can barely use the pool. They have also showed up unannounced when the Potrero locations pool was closed, and allowed to hold classes without authorization displacing members. The worst part is upset members who try to swim in the lanes for the school or refuse to get out of the pool during swim class time, and they often scare the children or harass the swim school employees who are just doing their jobs! This happened yesterday, a man with flippers soaked a young child and the instructor by coming in their lane and splashing them intentionally. That area is chaos incarnate with no semblance of gym or pool etiquette.

For all the reasons below I have decided to officially continue as a member! The first thing you notice when you walk in is how clean it is. Unlike other gyms the facilities are always spotless and there are no bad odors. That is highly appreciated. The environment is extremely welcoming and the people are very friendly. Additionally they have a great variety of equipment and exercises. This makes the workouts dynamic and complete. The best part is that there are always 2 coaches per class. They are constantly monitoring your posture and ready to give you tips. This makes you feel very safe while training. The schedule flexibility is another huge plus since they offer classes Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This makes it easy to fit into any routine. Kobe has been my primary coach and he has been great. We've even had the chance to discuss my nutrition plan. However due to my schedule I've also trained with the other coaches (Lisa, Jesiah, Jeremy, Richard, and Patrick) and everyone is top-notch. Highly recommended!

I am SO glad we found Strength Camp SF on Yelp. We started with their free introductory class, and honestly, that first impression sealed the deal. The coaching, the structure, the vibe, everything just felt right. From day one, it was clear this isn't a "do your own thing and hope for the best" gym. It's intentional, well programmed, and actually cares about progress. Huge shout out to the coaches I have worked with so far- Lisa, Jeremy, Patrick, Kobe. They have all been phenomenal. Super knowledgeable, patient, and great at pushing you just enough while still making sure form and safety come first. The weekday programming is thoughtfully structured around specific lifts and muscle groups (deadlifts, squats, lower body, etc.), which makes progress feel real and measurable. And Saturdays are my absolute favorite. The weekend training sessions with Lisa and Patrick are something I genuinely look forward to. I try very hard not to miss them. Challenging, fun, and such a great way to end the week feeling strong and accomplished. One of the things I love most is the community. The people who train here are supportive, encouraging, and actually cheer each other on. It's motivating in the best way. No ego, no weird gym energy, just people showing up and doing the work together. Overall, Strength Camp SF has helped us build consistency, confidence, and real strength. I am genuinely proud of how far we have come, and while I know I still have a long way to go, I feel confident that if I stay disciplined and keep showing up, I will hit my goals. This gym makes that feel possible and honestly, enjoyable.

It honestly feels like management doesn't care about cleanliness or the experience of their members. The front desk staff (the girl working Tuesday around 10 PM and the guy who said he was her boss) were extremely unwelcoming and rude. They spoke in a very aggressive and threatening manner and were clearly misrepresenting the information in the contract. Instead of helping or explaining things professionally, they tried to intimidate and confuse the situation. This kind of behavior from staff is completely unacceptable. The management is also very misleading. Their main goal is to sell you a membership at any cost, and once you sign up, they make it extremely difficult to cancel. They keep charging your card month after month even when you try to get out of the membership. I would strongly recommend staying away from this place. There are many better, cleaner, and more honest gyms in the area.

That's when I came across the Sunset Gym this past December. I started my membership with a week long pass and eventually converted it to a monthly membership. (The payment for the week pass went into my first month of membership) Pricing wise this place is a very reasonable compared to the bigger chains (i.e Fitness SF), but admittedly you are also restricted to one location. For me though, that's not a problem as I wanted a neighborhood gym more than anything. The gym itself is great - it's old school (think OG Gold's Gym style). Downstairs has plenty of free weights and a good selection of machines. Upstairs has a dedicated Cardio area, a spot for stretching, as well as additional free-weights and an outdoor area. Staff I've interacted with so far have been wonderful. Very glad to have found a great gym close by to where I live
