This one is full of photographs, clothing and furniture from families that moved into the area in the 1800's. The building is not a repurposed house, according to one of the museum staff, it was built with the intention of being a museum. I always wonder about old museums-what would have been in a museum in the 1800's since all the things they were using every day were modern then. Anyway, this one has lots of relics of yesteryear and plenty of folks who are eager to tell you all about the things you're looking at.

Apparently there are a few airshows that they hold throughout the year and at that time they have tons more planes. The lady told us that we had just missed that about a month earlier. But they still had a couple of the planes that flew in still there. They have a few you can walk up inside sit in the seat, etc. Lots of information if you're an aviation buff a couple of cool things we were told as the uniform there was from the top gun movie that was donated. All and all a nice little stop if you're close by or if you fly into the airport nearby, check their hours and give them a visit and donate.

Onboard the Candy Dropper airplane is the history of a truly humanitarian pilot that broke some rules to enhance the lives of others! The two small pilot trainers are a bit of history that we'd never seen before, sadly one will be leaving the museum shortly. There's a small gift shop inside the hangar with souvenirs and memorabilia. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Most of the furnishings are replicas, but they've done a nice job to set the stage for what would have been a typical pioneer home. (There are a few original pieces which the tour guide will point out to the group.) The LDS church owns the property and staffs it with volunteer service missionaries to tell the story and history of the people. They've got the tour down to a science with storytelling and traffic flow done well. Plan about an hour for a tour-it's not self guided, so it would be harder to duck in and sneak out if you want to be on your way.

Back in one corner of one room is an inconspicuous table with chairs. One may push it off as inconsequential until they are told that it is the table that Butch Cassidy and his family once sat around. Learn the exciting history of Utah's Cotton Mission and how the area came to be known as "Dixie", the pioneer struggle of creating a community out of nothing, how the firstcomers had to live out of their wagons and even went up to the red hill above town to live in caves which, incidentally, are still there in Saint George's Pioneer Park just above town to the north under the big "DIXIE" painted rock. There is a treasure trove of local native American artifacts. I have visited the museum many times and have always found my time spent there to be well worth it.
