This is a beautiful, well-maintained paved trail featuring labeled desert plants and thoughtful decor throughout. The highlight for me was the mini slot canyon. It's such a unique and photogenic spot! It's a fantastic place for pictures and a peaceful stroll. While nearby Pioneer Park offers more climbing and adventure, this trail is perfect if you're with older family members or anyone who appreciates desert landscaping without the rugged terrain. The views are stunning and truly showcase the natural beauty of the area.

We stopped by while visiting the area with my mom and children. This place is absolutely gorgeous! It is easy to navigate through on the paved paths. There is so much to see and enjoy. They have restrooms and water stations, swings and benches, and covered areas to escape the sun when it's hot. Would definitely go here again.

This place is so fun to check out during Halloween time or Christmas! For Halloween different companies set up their own decorations and have cute lights up. Christmas time has allll the Christmas lights and decorations and is the best date night with some cocoa! They also have multiple swings you can sit and relax on.

A beautiful garden...in the desert...and it's free! We spent an hour or so here and had a lovely time. There are so many plants and animal exhibits to look at and plenty of seating for stops along the way. My husband enjoyed the faux slot canyon but I think my favorite thing was walking around looking at the different species of plants and flowers and just enjoying the peacefulness of the area. This is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area and it is nearby to a lot of other attractions so it's very convenient. Parking can get tight but there are clean bathrooms and even a covered area for picnics. Oh and did I mention it's dog friendly?

This place is awesome!!! It's pet friendly. A place where you can do your morning walk. A place where you can just walk through with your kids. You can bring your favorite coffee here at this location and enjoy the sunset or sunrise:) There's a small area where you can view fishes through glass. The tanks are not clear but still informative and cool in the same time Very good atmosphere very clean this is a must go to place.

Beautiful! I must do while in St. George. Gives you the feel of Zion on a small scale. We had a group of 10 age range from 7 to 52. We all had a blast. Being able to explore and free to climb wherever was amazing. Our teens immediately took off climbing, laughing, and waving at us from the highest points. Our littles felt so big being able to climb and lead the way. The photos alone were worth it. So beautiful. We stayed for hours and honestly if we didn't get hungry probably would have stayed longer! Hiking shoes definitely made a difference just made it easier and safer to climb. :)

Christmas lights are cute. It was a nice add to our short trip. Great for the family. A food truck with hot cocoa would have been nice

A very pleasant walk above St. George with desert plants all around and wonderful views of the city below. There are signs informing you about the history of the area as well as labels of the plants you are looking at. As of this review they are currently doing a scarecrow walk for Halloween where groups and organizations have put together homemade scarecrows. Even during the day, seeing the Halloween decorations were a treat but this is a place you want to go to any time of the year.

Garden Footprint Five-acre garden that's only been opened since 2015 and features thousands of native plants, a stocked stream and a few other goodies to enjoy. The Good: *Free parking and admission *Dog-friendly trails *The garden is immaculate and really well-kept. *The location is simply stunning adjacent to Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. *Be sure to check out the amazing views of the St George down below you and the hills. *Very peaceful place to come meditate and commune w/ nature. *Restrooms The Meh: *It's in Utah?? J/k (kinda) There's really not much to hate about this place. TLDR: Must-see if you're visiting St George and love nature.

09.04.21 Utah's premier desert garden showcasing water-efficient landscapes

Water efficient landscapes I love gardens. Plants and flowers are such pretty subjects for photo taking. This desert garden showcases the beauty of water-efficient landscapes. The garden uses 70% less water than something similar to a turf landscape. During our visit in September the weather was 95° so there were hardly any flowers and mostly just desert plants in bloom like agaves and yuccas, native plants and, of course, cactus species. There is a map towards the main entrance and also brochures by the bathrooms. You can also enter the garden from the sidewalk on Skyline Dr. There is a cool feature in the middle of the garden, a replica of the slot canyon. This is a nice tribute to Southern Utah's natural landscape. Make sure you walk through it... Dinosaurs! oh wow, really? In St George? Well, there is a variety of fossil tracks made by dinosaurs some 200 million years ago. We followed the tracks stamped into the concrete and found some fossils. Best of all, the garden is FREE! Take your time and enjoy the 5-acre landscaping and the stream stocked with native fish species. Private parking lot. Review #2380

Only 5 stars? This place deserves 6! Red Hills Desert Garden is the best public/private project I have ever visited. It is a collaboration of the Washington County Water Conservancy District, the City of St. George, and the Virgin River Program. The designers of this five-acre garden deserve medals. First of all it's free. Lastly, it's priceless.

Beautiful botanical garden! Very worthy of a visit. The surrounding rock scape is great for climbing on; provides excellent vistas. Very nicely lit up and decorated for Christmas. That alone is worth a separate visit at dusk or after dark.

Red Hills Desert Garden is another fun FREE place to visit while staying in Saint George. We rolled into town late afternoon. But there was still plenty of time to visit this free botanical garden AND watch the sunset at Pioneer Park next door. This is a well maintained garden with nice concrete paths. Even though there's no gate or docents this place was pristine and completely safe even after dark.. Not only do they encourage kids playing, it's part of their mission statement. In contrast, California basically bans any "risk" activity including anything that encorporates kids having fun..

Ask the Community - Red Hills Desert Garden

I know there probably isn’t any public transportation from Vegas, but are there any private bus services that will take you there and wait an hour or so for return trip? I found you can get a Lyft, but is there anything cheaper?

There is a St George shuttle which goes to Harry Reid airport.

We didn't really know where to start when we arrived, and there wasn't much direction, so we ended up just climbing the first rock formation we saw. Honestly, if it weren't for a group of people ahead of us, we probably wouldn't have had any idea where to go. I was hoping to make it to the arch, but the climb felt a little too steep and slippery, especially with kids. We were carrying our three-year-old and keeping a close eye on our six-year-old, who was feeling a bit more adventurous than we were comfortable with in that terrain. We didn't make it very far in and mostly just stopped to take a quick photo so we could say we visited. It was also pretty hot, with the sun beating down the whole time, which made it harder to explore and enjoy the park fully. That said, the park itself is really nice, and you can tell there's a lot to see if you're prepared and know where you're going. I'd recommend going earlier in the day, bringing plenty of water, and maybe looking up a map or trail guide ahead of time, especially if you're visiting with young kids. Overall, it's a cool place, but we didn't get to experience it as much as we had hoped. Definitely worth another try with better planning!

Unfortunately I DID have a pretty nasty experience with their customer service. I'm from out of state and called to ask about booking a wedding reception. I had heard really good things about the location and spoke with a friend who said that Tonaquint had recently stopped hosting receptions there due to previous guests not adequately cleaning up, but if we called and asked for Julie, and explained that we would be clean, they might make an exception. This is where it got uncomfortable. I called and explained my situation being from out of state, trying to plan a reception, and that we had been referred by a previous reception party (who presumably had a good experience/was clean), and asked if we might be able to work something out. She curtly responded, "Well that's a policy we made, so no." I was a little surprised at how abrupt she was but asked, "Okay, well... Like I said, I'm from out of state so do you know of any locations that look similar to Tonaquint? I know my fiancé really liked that location when she'd been there before, so I'd like to try and find something similar?" "Umm... No. I don't. Why don't you try calling a wedding planner if you have questions like that because we don't do that kind or thing?" *Uncomfortable pause* "Uh, okay. Well, do you have any in the area you could recommend? Ones that you worked with from when you did receptions [which was only 4-6 months ago at the time of writing this review, Julie being the person we were specifically referred the reception party point of contact] and would recommend?" "No. I don't know any. I don't do that. Why don't you just Google one?" --I want to add here that at every point she spoke, she was extremely curt, and even felt sarcastic; the tone was really unprofessional and condescending. "Okay, well I guess I'll try that." "Yup. Congrats on getting engaged almost I guess? Bye." Julie then hung up the phone. I was with the friend at the time of making the call and as soon as the line went dead she turned to me and said, "Oh my gosh!! She was so RUDE!" which frankly helped validate my experience. -- So, in all, honestly don't let this taint your perception of the facilities/gardens as a whole. --Like I said, I heard they are fantastic, willbut probably go walk through at some point, but have never personally been there myself so I cant review that side of things either way. Just be careful if you need to contact the gardens personally as it may not be the most professional or helpful experience.

There are two types of plots, one that donates all harvested food to local food banks and the other are personal plots that one can do as they wish with the food harvested so long as they follow the guidelines of the garden. There was a shed inside the fenced garden area that I walked in and checked out. The shed has tools available to volunteers. Water will be provided by the City of St. George via a spigot at each plot and the cost for a plot ranges from $30 - $40 and the fee can be waived if you volunteer so much time each year. Each person is responsible for planting their own crop by March 1st of each year and it's their responsibility to keep their plot area weeded and looking neat. I noticed a lot of empty plots and a lot that were full of life. The hours on the sign said sunrise to sunset and the gate was wide open on my visit giving me the the chance to walk around see the different plots and what was growing. Such a neat thing they have going on here!
