Stopped in yesterday for a drink and quick bite running errands. The bartender took care of us and got our drinks and nachos quickly. We had the green Chile nachos. We got a plate of cheesy smothered chile goodness. The staff was friendly. There is an attached space with another bar and stage. Visiting friends in Alamosa over St. Patrick's Day weekend and stopped in to St Ives. What a wonderfully surprising place! Everyone was so incredibly friendly, kind and welcoming. The wait staff were very attentive to us and friendly. We had so much fun at St Ives. Being that it was St. Patrick's Day we were given green beads and t-shirts, drank green beer and ate corned beef! What great place to hang out! We will be back on our next visit up to Alamosa! read more

I was shocked to experience a holiday when so many restaurants were closed. So we stopped in here thinking it would be Irish food. No just burgers, wraps, chili. So we asked to start with chili as it was an unusually cold evening. When he came back to take our order we should have asked where our chili was, but I shouldn't have to. He brought our burgers. My mushroom Swiss burger was fine. My husband likes more rare burgers so he said his was over cooked. The chili was being dished up and we said never mind. We wanted it before the meal. I'm from Chicago, where pubs and breweries are on every corner. Let me tell you; this place puts a ton of those to shame (and it's in the middle of nowhere!) Refreshing beer, damn good food, and a great staff. Our server Kristjian was a helluva guy; witty, engaging, and accommodating. I had the BBQ ribs which were too big to finish, with a great smoky and sweet chipotle sauce. Bought myself a growler of their chile spiced lager and will need to control myself to save it till I get back to Chicago. I was passing through town during lunch. Stoped at St Ives place was empty. Greeted by the cook. The wait staff showed up a few minutes later. Service was good. Food was not great but it was good. And not expensive. I would have given four stars if not for THE IDIOT OWNER. I travel with a service dog and for the first time in years he demanded I show my card. I don't keep it on me it is in the car. Was happy to get it he said don't bother. BUT IF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT SHOWS UP YOU(me) WILL PAY ANY FINES. I should have left but the waiter got me to stay. Not an animal lover nor a people lover from what I can tell. So don't bring your service dog here. read more

Well, if they would have kept their fresh ground patties instead of moving to the processed Mickey D patties, they'd get 5 stars, but this place just sucked hardcore the last time I was there. On my first experience I ordered the double swiss burger, yes double, girl gotsta eat....and man, the 80/20 beef was thick and juicy. Sounds a bit raunchy, huh?!?! Well, it was just that thick and juicy and tasty. Now they use those paper thin, yucky, processed patties that have no flavor and taste like cardboard. What happened? New ownership? Cut backs? Disappointed. Period. The food was subpar and the service was much much worse!!! If you decide to eat here 1) Pray that the staff gets your order right because you will pay,no matter what, and the owner himself will not make things right. 2) Give yourself abundant time because the service is slow and part of your order may be wrong and/or forgotten (in our case it was both). We were meeting family to visit nearby Great Sand Dunes National Park and a party of six of us came on a week night for dinner. We waited about 50 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we got served. My niece does not like guacamole and she ordered a chicken wrap WITHOUT guacamole. When the wrap arrived, it had guacamole on it. Because I like guacamole, I traded her some of my quesadilla for her wrap. I ate part of the wrap, but the guacamole on it was terrible (it had a very strong metallic flavor). We had also ordered mozzarella sticks that never arrived. When we inquired, we were informed that they were "out of mozzarella sticks." (Information that would have been helpful when we ordered, not when we expected them to be served, AND BEFORE THEY WERE ADDED TO OUR CHECK!) Long story short, my husband spoke to the owner and articulated the issues here-- that we got the wrap with bad guacamole on it after requesting WITHOUT, and that mozzarella sticks had been ordered and added to our check, and we only were informed none were even available when we inquired!! The owner took the mozzarella sticks off the check, but he would not budge on the cost of the chicken wrap that they incorrectly prepared. Allegedly, he sent the waitress to check and see if any of it had been eaten. My niece had not touched her half and I had eaten part of the other half that I traded her my meal for. Since some of it had been eaten, he would not even discount our check. He told my husband that it was not necessary to take any measure to make things right or keep our business since we are not from there and wouldn't be back anyway! He said, "I'm probably never going to see you again, so why would I discount you?" This was inappropriate since his establishment made the mistake!! We were very nice about it, but it was unfathomable that this was his response. So.... If you're from out of town like we were, beware! This is NOT the place you want to eat. This owner clearly does not regard the business of out-of-towners!!! We have every sympathy for small business owners, especially after the last couple of years. A few of us drove in town from Dallas, Tx and ended up watching the Stars hockey game here. The gentleman serving us was named Keeni (spelling?). It was his very first day on the job and he knocked the service out of the park. We never had a dirty table or an empty glass. He was very polite. I have managed many bars/restaurants and knew right away that they made a great hire. The bartender made great drinks as well. They had live music on the patio that was awesome. . I don't write many reviews, but I had to on this visit. I would recommend this place to anyone in town or that lives here. We didn't eat, but everything I looked at coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. read more

We had a very odd experience here. We were starving and 200-300 miles from home. We were looking for a small town gem. We found this bar and grill. We didn't have much to choose from but closest to us at that moment was the best. We came in and were greeted by the cook. Love that! Don't just hide. If it's only you and a tender than come out and say hi. Kudos. The bartender came out and we got our much needed waters and a two-for-one beer. Nice. I Got a mushroom burger. The mushrooms were black and chewy. This is a sign of them being held in a steam table too long. It was okay. Pretty good. My girlfriend had a chicken sandwich. she was happy with it. She got the battered fries. They were good. Frozen from a box though. I unfortunately got the fresh cut fries. They were unlike any I have had. They were hard in the middle but seemed to be cooked looking from the outside. I knew what the problem was right away. They were either blanched too quickly or not at all. when cooking fries you have to cook them, let them cool and cook when ordered. This is what creates a soft interior and crispy exterior. I asked the bartender if they cooked them twice. She said no. I talked her ear off for ten minutes about food science. She listened and said she would speak to the chef. We finished. We gave a credit card to her. She came back and said it was declined. WHAT!? We had plenty for a $30 lunch. We called the bank and they said there was a hold on the account for a possible patriot act violation. Thanks Bush Jr. I argued for an hour to get them to open our normal and patriotic account. The reason This place got a 2 and not a 3 review is as follows. 15 minutes into our wait on the bank to fix the account the waitress came up to us. She asked if we'd be done soon. I said it might be a while. She seemed upset. I asked. "What's wrong." She told me that the manager was making her stay until we payed. Btw, we don't look like bums. I went to talk to him. He seemed more concerned with the $30 than anything else. He asked me if I had collateral... What. The gas tank needs to filled up twice to get back to Denver. We ain't goin' nowhere. "Can you let the girl go." I asked. He gave some BS excuse for keeping her to teach her a lesson. She had frustrated her in the past. WHAT!!!!!!! We are left in an awkward position waiting with this waitress? DON"T PUT YOUR CUSTOMERS IN THIS POSITION!!!!!!!! She was a great kid. She didn't deserve this. He said. "Hold on ten minutes and I'll let her go." He did. We paid after an hour or so. #*&! this manager. He was sitting at a table drinking while everyone else was working. He is an @$$hole. I would have quit if I were this lady. She said nothing bad about the owner of the business or the business itself. Great customer service on her part. 5 stars. Don't be a piece of $#!+ manager and screw your employees like this. SHAME! read more

Walked in at 11:02pm when the kitchen closed at 11pm and they didn't hesitate to still serve us! Food was awesome, great place!

I have to say, I was wary because of the low rating, but friends had already been seated here so we joined them. I was really pleasantly surprised - the service was great, and the food was both tasty and reasonably priced. To start, the food was just ok. 15 min after we sat down, it started to storm, down pour. We were seated in back. The water started to come in the back door. Moving closer to us by the min. The staff was running around trying to open the back door to get the water to run out. It was already door high. Water was dripping from the ceiling in several places. There was water running down the walls. The tv's and lights kept flickering. A man that was at the next table would not let anyone go to the bathrooms because the water was dripping from the light fixtures. He said someone walking in the water was going to get electrocuted. The water got to our table, so they moved us to another table. We got our food and started to eat. Water started to drip on our new table. We tried to move our table, but it was dripping from multiple places from the ceiling. So we had to move to another table near the front door. We moved our own food and drinks. The staff was trying to work, but lets face it, they should not have to deal with these types of issues. One customer said this was the worst he had ever seen it. WHAT??... How many times does this need to happen before the owner fixes the roof? So the bill comes, they gave us a discount... wow. Must not comp anything ever!! This is not acceptable. I think the state inspector needs to know about this problem before someone gets hurt. Not only is it an electrical hazard, but what about the integrity of the roof/ceiling? I tried the french dip and it was tasteless and rubbery -- the fries were frozen and weren't great. Service was non-existent. We did order the fried mushroom appetizers and they were decent, they were frozen as well but they at least tasted good. This place used to be one of the best bets for good food, I have no idea what happened but those days are gone. Would not waste my money there again -- I can make my own deep fried mushrooms. read more

I can't comment on their food because we were never given the chance to order anything. We walked in and sat at a table in the very front, all 3 waitresses saw us. 2 of them were standing around talking so they couldn't of been that busy. The table next to us had 4 college guys sitting it an it seemed their waitress could not pry herself away from them to even tell us she would be with us in a moment, she was at their table four or five times while we waited to be acknowledged. We thought there was hope when a different waitress started to come our direction but then she turned around and went back behind the bar to talk with the other one. We couldn't even get there attention to tell them we needed help, or menus even! Finally we got up and left walking by all 3 of them again, they didn't seem to care. Customers even noticed us leaving, one customer even apologized and said "this place seriously has gone down hill". I bet we would have gotten better service if we were young guys....pathetic read more
