Was looking for a nice dinner while we were in the area for Great Sand Dunes National Park. The Friar's Fork not only had good food reviews, but also for it's unique background. Developed in the old St. Thomas Episcopal Church, they did a good job of creating an Italian restaurant while still holding true to it's history. You'll see it all around while you dine, from the retained architecture to the pews you sit on to enjoy your meal. Simple menu, but everything we ordered was so tasty. Their Spaghetti and Meatballs was hearty and filling, and their Italian Roast was delicious. I was even impressed by their Seasonal Salad - I feel like salads are usually treated as a side and can be rather plain, but this one was filled with different veggies and protein that really brought it to the next level. Drinks were decent. I got the Bar Nun, which was toted as a twist on the classic Long Island. I do wish they had elaborated a bit more on it because while I like Long Islands, this didn't quite do it for me. Their Pope Mobile was a good choice, though. Easy to find street parking. Prices were decent. Overall, this was a surprisingly good stop. You don't always find the best food when you're in a gateway city, but the Friar's Fork definitely delivered for an enjoyable meal.

We were looking for a nice dinner spot while visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park, and The Friar's Fork was such a pleasant surprise. Located in the old St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the setting is absolutely beautiful -- they've done an amazing job of creating a cozy Italian restaurant while preserving the building's original charm. We came in as a large group and ended up ordering nearly everything on the menu -- and everything was delicious. The Eggplant Pasta was my absolute favorite -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I also loved that you could ask for a bowl of roasted garlic to enjoy with the bread served alongside the pastas -- such a simple but amazing touch. The service was phenomenal. We were running late, so I called ahead to let them know, and even though it was right around kitchen closing time, they were so accommodating. They seated us immediately, made sure we could order everything we wanted, and never once made us feel rushed. Drinks were solid, the vibe was warm and inviting, and the food exceeded expectations -- especially for a small gateway town. The Friar's Fork is such a gem and truly worth the stop if you're in the area.

I entered via the red door from the patio for The Sanctuary bar. The inside is 1980's style furniture with accents from the former Episcopal church. The menu offered classic Italian dishes with a good wine list. Reasonable prices. I was served by Ruby R. She was friendly. I started with a glass of Marquez Rioja. I got an appetizer of Fiocchi & Pear, which is small pear filled pasta purses with shaved parmesan cheese. A light choice. I got the Lamb Shank Osso Buco served over tomato infused polenta. The lamb was fork tender and was not salty. I added a side of butter roasted garlic and a 2nd glass of Rioja. My dessert was 3 mini cannoli's. The add a 3% credit card surcharge. A nice Italian meal.

Trip 1 great drinks in a lovely setting.

I thought I reviewed this wonderful place on our first visit but I guess not. Love the ambiance of the restaurant and also the Santuary. Service both times was excellent. They let you go at your own pace. Full bar and the tender concocts great drinks. I enjoy the Sidecar and the wife likes their Sazerac. Next the delicious appetizers. The first trip we tried the Fiocchi stuffed with pear and ricotta with fresh parm on top. We loved it so much, we got it again on the second trip. Yum Yum Yum. Trip 2 we also tried the Arincini, gouda and rice balls with sauce. Yum. For entrees trip 1, the wife got the Duck confit with mushroom ravioli. There was enough ravioli for a whole meal. She said the duck was some of the best she's eaten. I got the holy trinity to try several things. Really good fettuccine alfredo. The chicken parm was a little different but still good. Grilled chicken on top rather than breaded. Lasagna okay. Entrees for trip 2, the wife got the lamb osso bucco. Another delicious dish. She raved. I got the chicken marsala. The dish was spaghetti with a few mushrooms, covered in a sauce and topped with grilled chicken. The dish was good but didn't taste like marsala dishes that I have had. This sauce was almost like a light brown gravy. Maybe different part of Italy style dish. Trip 2 we did not have dessert but trip 1 we tried their Tiramisu. It was like cake ice cream. YUM!! We are in CO for a few more months, so we will be back. I still want to try the chicken milanese and the wife wants to try the Italian Roast. And once Society Hall opens again, this is a great place for dinner before a show!! Just down the street.

Great place to dine to celebrate my son getting his Master's degree in Counseling! Housed in a historic old church with super friendly staff, food was excellent!

UPDATE....The Friar's Fork in Alamosa has blocked me because I gave an honest review of my experience. This is probably why they maintain a 4.7 rating. They only have 12 ratings since 2022. Take that for what you will. ‍ This morning my husband and I went to one in our town. We had a horrible experience. I posted a very honest and what I thought was a kind review and they ended up blocking me. Do you think I was too harsh? I know we all have crap days in the kitchen but I was bumfuzzled at our meal. Below is what I posted: This is a review of one of our local restaurants. It's completely honest and a long read. We usually eat breakfast at home because there isn't a good breakfast place in our town, in our opinion. But we have been seeing the advertisements on Facebook for The Friar's Fork. Benedicts are my favorite breakfast/brunch dishes because they are so sumptuous, easy and wonderfully flavorful. I was excited that The Friar's Fork was doing a Benedict breakfast. However, I was extremely disappointed. We were greeted by a friendly young woman and seated. She was also our waitress. She was absolutely wonderful. We were the only people in the restaurant the whole time we were there. The restaurant is very clean and lovely. The two owners were walking around as were 4 other employees. We ordered our meal. I ordered the crab cake Benedict and my husband ordered the green chile Benedict along with mimosas for each of us and a Diet Pepsi for me. When we received our plates, which the head chef/owner delivered to our table, we were hopefully but concerned. The best part of the Benedict is the oozing, runny, delectable egg. Ours were both pretty much hard boiled. My husband's English muffins was not toasted, the sausage was a premade Jimmy Dean type and a premade hash brown and very possibly green chile sauce from a jar. It was basically inedible. But since we were paying $15 per person he ultimately ate part of it. He didn't touch his severally over cooked eggs. I didn't have an English muffin but my crab cake was very likely a premade crab cake that was purchased with tasteless hollandaise sauce on top. The egg was inedible because it was so overcooked. I ate one crab cake. My bacon was a weird texture and I didn't eat much of it. 10 minutes or more after receiving our food the owner/head chef came over and asked if there was something wrong with our food because she could probably see we weren't eating it. As she approached the table she saw the eggs were very overcooked and said so. She offered to replace the dish but we declined. Nothing other than the premade hash brown cake was worth eating. Ultimately we ordered a cocktail each that were very good. They were the only good things we consumed there this morning. We really truly expected deliciousness from a James Beard nominee. If I hadn't eaten a fantastic James Beard restaurants in the past, I would assume James Beard awards were a joke. I really would love to support our local restaurants but being that we've never had a good meal here (this was our 3rd time) we will not go back. We paid $85 for the worst brunch we've ever experienced.

The Friar's Fork was recommended by some lovely people we met earlier in the day and so, we decided to stop in for dinner. The history of this place was super interesting and learning that the chef was very talented had our hopes up. Our waitstaff was very friendly, made us feel right at home, and even asked for feedback regarding one of their cocktails. The dishes were all gorgeous - see the pics. We started out well - the bread was amazing. All the ingredients also looked great. But, with every dish, there was def something missing. We struggled, at first, to our our finger on it, but landed later with the flavors not being melded together. They felt assembled versus cooked together, if that makes sense. Incredibly disappointed. Maybe it was an off night?

I ordered the surf and turf Burrito and it had 2 shrimp in it and a few crumbles of carna asada. The rest of the burrito was full of beans and rice. My friend ordered the 3 taco plate and they brought out what looked like a child's plate. Tiny street tacos for $14. Seriously. Thats a joke. My friend asked to order additional food and the waitress took 15 minutes to comeback to take his additional order. At that time he decided to not order anything else. We got charged for a $25 Chile relleno burrito plate when we ordered a $15 dollar burrito not a plate. . We go to pay and I checked the bill, my $12 drink I didn't even touch was on the bill and another item that we did not order was on our bill. $22 of additional items we didn't order was placed on the bill. Had the waitress remove it and we left. The place looks like it could be fun but they literally did everything possible to have us never come back again. Definitely not ever going there again.

The restaurant wasn't fooling around when it comes to garlic. You could smell the enticing aroma of it as soon as you walk through the door. The ambience was quaint. It is connected to a hotel which I'd check out if I were traveling through here again. We arrived at the restaurant around 530pm. The happy hour menu had both drinks and some dinner items on it. My companion ordered the Spaghetti & Meatballs from the happy hour menu. We were told the portion is the same as from the regular menu. It was $14. ($18 on regular menu.) It was a generous portion with three large meatballs. I opted for the Picatta Pasta at $12 and added four shrimp for an extra $6. They gave me five so I'm not sure if the chef made a mistake or was just feeling generous. I'll say the latter! The dish had tomatoes, capers, lemon, and white wine. The only thing I'd add to my taste would be pine nuts! We both totally enjoyed our meals including the bread! I forced myself to leave a little for lunch the next day and it was even better then! Comments I heard from around the dinner were equally enthusiastic about their meals, especially those who ordered the mussels. We're in town for a week and I don't usually go back to the same restaurant twice when I'm visiting a new location but my companion and I are definitely going back again before we leave.
