Favorite place in Covington to study. It's not overly noisy like many other coffee shops. Their macchiatos are the best and they make them correct (unlike Starbucks). The staff is friendly and helpful. Just wish they were open later so I can study longer! read more

St. John's has such great potential but just doesn't perform consistently on the fundamentals. The building and the location are perfect. With a little tweaking it could be amazing but the service, the product and the consistency are all lacking. The number one thing a coffee shop should do well on is coffee. I find the coffee is good one day and not so much the next. Also, they serve their coffee in Styrofoam cups. I don't know of any coffee shop that does that. The service is typically not very warm or engaging. Oftentimes the baristas seem bothered that they have to take your order. The atmosphere could easily be amazing but the layout of the tables in straight rows, the general lack of music playing softly in the background, and the lack of any comfortable chairs make it a place that is not very fun to hang out in for very long. I do a lot of work in Covington and much of my work is done with my laptop in a coffee shop. I would love for St. John's to be the kind of place where I would feel comfortable working but I find myself passing it up for other local coffee shops. read more

I sit here at St. John's and wonder what "could be". First a disclaimer, I live in Portland, OR so my expectations of what a coffee experience can be are pretty high. Everywhere I travel I ALWAYS seek out local coffee versus the chains. So here goes... Sunday morning 9:30 the pinnacle time for a great leisurely latte... The place is empty & I think I know why. The young lady behind the counter couldn't have been more disinterested. Tip #1 your employees should care. Ordered a triple latte...FOAM cup appears! NO!!!!!! I ask the indifferent server how large the ceramic cups were? "16 ounces" came the reply. Tip #2- ask your patron if they would like their coffee for here? No matter what, PLEASE NO STYROFOAM!! Ok so on to the coffee. Ridiculously hot. NO effort in making a cup that is appealing. Bitter. Again I sit here and wonder what could be. Delicious espresso, great quiche, good iced coffee, friendly service. I'd definitely go back here. This coffee shop is the exact opposite of nearly all the others in the region; it's not a chain, it's in a historic building with a nice ambiance and no drive-through, and the counter staff actually knows a thing or two about coffee. Barista seemed so annoyed that there were customers wanting to order coffee. I took one sip of my iced "latte" and threw it out.

I come here all of the time and I am never disappointed. I always get the iced chai with soy, and it's so good The atmosphere is really cool, too-- everyone comes here, but it never feels overcrowded. Love coming here to meet up with my friends and play scrabble, or just to do some schoolwork in a peaceful, endearing environment. I'm coming around to the notion that if you go into a coffee house, see an espresso machine that cost more than $5,000 but the person operating it doesn't know what they are doing, you should be able to take the machine home with you for free. I had this kind of experience at St. John's minus taking the machine home. It is really shame since everything besides the coffee was great. It's attractive and the pastries were awesome. It's nice to have an independent coffee shop in Covington. The coffee is good. The other review is right, it's not a place to hangout sitting on chairs and couches but if the straightback chairs don't bother you it's great to sit for a while. The tile floor and high ceiling make it inviting when it is hot outside (most of the time.) The sandwiches and pastry are ok. You can get a cheese or veggie quesadilla. The hazlenut cake is good. There is a computer ($) and free wi-fi, sometimes good, sometimes bad art on the wall and a nice small meeting room in the back. The staff are usually nice and attentive if low key. Great little spot in historic downtown Covington. Was just looking for a nice place to get some work done and kill some time and was very pleased to find St. John's Coffeehouse. I didn't order any food, just a macchiato, but it was quick and perfect and the service was super friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and mostly quiet, just what I was looking for. I love coming to St. Johns. The atmosphere is so great. I usually come in the early afternoon (before 2, because the barista that comes in at 2 is so loud I just can't take it) They have live bands and interesting artwork. I love getting the vegetable bagel because it is so delicious! read more

This building is such a gem and should be the most desirable place in cov to meet up with a friend or do some work/study. However, the lack of background music makes it so awkward to sit and chat when everyone can hear what you are saying. If people need to study, they can put their earphones in. PLEASE add some music during the day. Maybe that's why it is always so empty in there and no one stays to long. It's such a great place and most of the staff is always so nice. If you are looking for a place with character, St. John's Coffeehouse has it. Charming coffee house with high ceilings, cute tables and chairs and really nice staff (and customers). The coffee is pretty good. Pastries are ok (need more choices). If you go on Sunday morning, get there early as by 9am most of the bagels are sold out. read more

This was just another typical "quick coffee drop-in to kill some time while waiting for a friend" type of visit. I ordered a traditional coffee with cream and sugar, which had a nice "just like home" taste. It was the ambiance and decor that truly impressed me, as well as the amazing customer service from the barista. The prices are well within affordable as well! While the coffee itself was good(we had a frappe and an iced macchiato) the service was definitely lacking I asked the barista if you could get the macchiatos iced (not an option on the menu) and instead of waiting for me to order started making it. Great place to relax with a delicious cup of hot chocolate and a magazine. I really like the atmosphere. It is in a hundred years old building in downtown Covington. There's a lot to see in the neighborhood. Everyone working in the place seems to be friendly. All I get is the hot chocolate so I have no comments on the other stuff. Price is fair. Being from Covington I'm grateful that St. Johns is there. St. Johns is so much more then just coffee ( which I find very good). It's also about a place where a child can crawl around on the floor or for the price of a cup of coffee you can surf the internet all day without fear of being told to leave. It's a everybody kind of place, the kind of place that's not intimidating. There is also a sandwich menu that is very good, I suggest the corn beef when they run it, the corn beef is in house made and it's very special. My only two complaints is I wish there were couches or more comfortable seating, the straight back chairs are good for short stops but not so good for long study nights. I also wish they ran the sandwich menu all day instead of just for lunch. I went there in high school, college, and now as a young professional I still go there. I'm an ice coffee person and their ice coffee tastes the same as it did ten or so years ago, (excellent). I wrote this review because I found one of the other reviews, unfair, in regards to the barista to barista dig. There is so much more about St. Johns then just coffee.
