One of the best and most unique tea rooms I've ever been to. Every room has a unique theme with stylish decor to create the mood of being in England at high tea. I've found the food service to be too slow (it once took almost two hours to prepare a piece of toast and poached egg), so personally recommend planning to come for the scones and tea. The scones are absolutely delectable with clotted cream and a lemon spread on the side. I like the classic ones, but there is plain, specialty, and savory (three choices) offered each day. You get two so can mix and match! The tea menu is EXTENSIVE with pages and pages of teas. For a flat rate, you can have as much tea as your stomach can hold!! They have plenty of decaf options too. This place books up fast, especially around the holidays! Plan to linger here a few hours with a loved one and really soak up all the joy of the experience. I do love a cute place with a theme that is serious. I had the Mr Darcy tea that had notes of cherry and dark chocolate, because I do love Mr Darcy! My husband and I visited together for the first time today but I've been to this tea room four times over the past few years whenever we're come to Louisiana. I just love this place! Food sometimes takes awhile but in my opinion, it's way worth it. Today we had the shepherds pie which is served in a nice, hot ramekin. It comes with a little pitcher of gravy and a wonderful green salad. Scone is included. These scones are the real deal and come with clotted cream and an excellent lemon curd. I've come here just for scones and tea before because both of them are that good! Today we met and had a wonderful conversation with the owner. She's a lovely person, and talking with her was like being with family. I hope to be back to visit again and as long as I get to go to Covington I won't be eating anywhere else. What a sweet spot! I was very excited for this tea experience. Myself and my husband booked the garden table for my first tea experience & our 3rd wedding anniversary. The venue is absolutely stunning, We loved that aspect. No one came to our table for 40 minutes in which my husband had to go ask for someone to wait on us. The server we had was very nice, informative, & prompt with providing proper service. Our tea was phenomenal! It was quite hot so we had a pot of hot tea and a glass of cold. Now for food we ordered the Easter high tea. Our sandwiches were fantastic, the scones were unfortunately very hard & over baked, the chocolate covered strawberries were previously frozen & were translucent (gone bad). My review is regarding the customer service of this business not the quality. I'd be happy to leave a review about the quality itself but have been trying for about two weeks to contact the business to purchase a gift card to no avail. I've called numerous times but always received a recording to leave a message, which I finally did. However, I never received a return call. I called a couple more times but no answer. I emailed the business with this information. They apologized and asked for my number and indicated I'd be called that day. That was on March 27 but still no call. At this point it seems the $150 I was going to spend will be better spent elsewhere. I don't want the person to whom I intended to gift the card to get the same service. I'm new to the area and wanted to go to a cute, fun place to celebrate my birthday! I learned about The English Tea Room before moving to the town. I absolutely love tea and going to have tea service is high on my list of little pleasures. I owned a small tea bar at one point in my life and know my teas well, but I enjoy going to other places to explore. The English Tea Room didn't let me down! The tea room is so dang cute. An old house decorated to the max with everything possible related to England and tea. The only downside I see is when busy, it's very crowded. I was squeezing around everywhere and many people. It's worth it to me as a customer, but I mention it as a kudo to the employees who work in that environment! I imagine it can get a little frustrating for them at times carrying food with tea cups and pots. Remember to be nice and give them a good tip! Our server was great and so nice. I think her name is Kelly. She really took care of us even though it was extremely busy. She even walked out with us to take our picture outside saying we should get a pic by the phone booth. She made us several different pots of tea and surprised me with a mini cup cake with a candle for my birthday at the end. I'm mad at myself for forgetting to ask her name. I think I might have heard someone say it, but I am not sure. Everyone we encountered who worked there was nice and the service was great, I would like to go back on a day that's less busy, so I could enjoy walking around more in the tea house. A small cheese, nut, and pepper jelly platter and cup of soup which can be split between 2 people. At first, when I heard it was Tomato Basil, while I love it, I was disappointed because it's common. This was scrumptious soup! My partner agreed. Some of the best Tomato Basil soup I've had in a long time. And we had unlimited tea! The Coronation Chicken Salad was delicious as well! The menu has some other unique dishes (here in The States) that I also want to try on another visit. Now for the tea! An extensive menu! They offer every kind of tea! The Pu'erh choices were limited (I think 2) which was a bit disappointing but I imagine not that many people walk in with the idea of getting it. I happen to be a fan and everyone should be, but based on my experience, not that many people are familiar with it. They have MANY black, green, rooibos, and herbal teas. I can't seem to remember how many white teas but I'd guess less since they are usually pricier. I actually prefer Black, some Herbal (even though it's not actually tea), and Rooibos. I think we both wound up getting all Black teas because the menu is fantastic! We did get a couple of specialty but I believe they were still both mainly Black blends. If you don't want caffeine, their Roibos menu is extensive and red leaf tea (naturally decaffeinated) is yummy. I personally want some caffeine unless I'm drinking a bunch at night. They also have Fruit Tea (more like herbal usually having no actual tea leaf), Chai, Oolong, and one Mate. We had Mr. Darcy, Royal Bengal Tiger, The Abbey Blend, and Midnight in Paris (also a favorite movie!). They were all delicious! I could talk for hours about tea, so I will leave it here. You will find something you like!! I loved spending my birthday at The English Tea Room. It's a treasure and if you are visiting or live nearby and haven't been, put it on your to do list! Sorry to say.... they have a new cook. I was highly disappointed when I ordered my usual Earl of Sandwich. The sandwich is barely had any ingredients in between the the bread. It was basically just bread with a sliver of egg salad, chicken salad etc. I also ordered a side of fruit that never came with my to go order. The famous tomato basil soup has been changed. Not for the better. Could not even manage two teaspoonfuls. English tea room is usually my favorite place to go. This new Cook needs to learn the basics or perhaps they can hire the one before him. I would usually give English tea room a full five stars but as of today... I see no reason to repeat this unpleasant experience. It's been a great disappointment and has changed my perception of one of my favorite places in Covington. I have been a l loyal customer since the tea room first opened it's doors. If you're looking to just drink tea this was a great place to do just that-but anything else from that was such a bummer. It took over an hour to get food--and It took me three times asking over the span of 60 minutes to just get yogurt for my daughter. Every time I had asked they kept saying they were making it. I started to joke that they must be churning the yogurt from scratch but then I started to get a little bit irritated cause an hour to just get yogurt?? I'm okay waiting for long periods of time but it's kind of hard to explain to a one year old why there isn't any food after an hour. I've been to other restaurants and when I say the dish is for the baby specifically they've been great in getting it immediately-here they did not. Be aware there wasn't much AC in the Alice in wonderland area--so we were hot on top of hungry. The food (when it finally came out) was subpar and dry. It was just a poor experience and I expected better service for what we were paying for. I hope to try a different tea house since I do love them, but I will not be coming back to this one since it wasn't anything special. read more

However, the table wasn't set and we had to keep reminding the server that we needed utensils. The tea and food came out very slowly. They were busy but the speed was truly ridiculous. The food was awful. I ordered the Earl of Sandwich. The sandwiches were on stale bread with barely any filling. My daughter ordered the Buckingham Bake. It was a brick without the bacon on top. The crumpet was unrecognizable as a crumpet. The two other guest ordered the Nippers Tea. As usual, the scones were little hockey pucks. I've been making scones for over 40 years and have eaten them in other Tea Rooms out of town. None were dense like these scones. Please, someone give the chef a Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood cookbook. Their scone and crumpet recipes are wonderful as well as their other baked goods. Maybe the chef can also find some desserts to serve. The store bought stuff is obvious. Today it appeared that they were under staffed and the servers were not experienced or trained. I've been here several times over the past 6 years. This place is amazing! It's one of my favorite spots. I've been here 7-10 times. Their tea selection is endless and the food options are also great. The strawberry fields salad is delicious and their cheese board is as well. They always have a variety of cheeses which makes it super fun. The Eggs Benedict has not been our favorite. Wonderful English style tearoom with 200 different teas, which while it may seem overwhelming, you simply need to decide on the type and flavor you prefer. Reservations are highly recommended as the indoor and outdoor tables fill up quickly. However, they are quite accommodating and will seat you if at all possible. The food was exquisite with both savory and sweet scones, egg dishes, crumpets, jam, curd, clotted cream, and a pleasing selection of tea varieties. And the location was in a lovely shaded mixed commercial and residential neighborhood of Covington. I can't speak to the interior as it was crowded and booked, and we were only inside for few seconds. But our outside white-clothed table was well furnished with white and raw sugar cubes and fresh flowers. Finally, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and attentive. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived to the time we left. If if weren't nearly an hour from home we easily would become regulars.
