I came here to see SWING! as one of my date nights. I am trying to attend more off broadway shows. The staff upon checking in were both very friendly and kind. They don't really have a concession stand with drinks - just some bottles of water and some little chocolate snacks such as M&Ms (thought this would be helpful for those that get excited about concession stands). The venue is smaller. I sat in the center, second row and was definitely worth it to purchase these tickets but if you purchase other seats towards the back, I don't think you could get a terrible seat here. The stage is smaller and you would be able to see well. I read some of the other reviews on Yelp and I could see what they were writing. My experience was great. I was a little disappointed because I really thought I would see some more professional swing dancing (my partner was very disappointed about this). Needless to say, the performers had beautiful voices, story line was well done, and set looked really nice. The live music was an added bonus. I think I went to the opening night or SWING and defintelynsome time to purrrrrrfect some of the scenes but all in all, it can only get better! I enjoyed it!! The show, Wicked Frozen, was cute and funny. But none of the actors were major standouts. It was a bit on the risque side, which didn't particularly bother me. However, there was no warning before the show and no signs informing patrons. Most of the audience was families with little kids and it is definitely not a show for little kids! The seats were just folding chairs and they were too close together. Also, there were some vertical support beams and several of the seats were squished against the beams. All in all, it was not a wonderful experience. read more

Tiny theater. Really cold inside during the winter. I (as well as other patrons) had to wear our winter coats through the ENTIRE performance! Not sure about the temperature during the summer - haven't been there during that time of the year. The fold-up chairs are extremely uncomfortable! There are 2 bathroom stalls near the entrance. They should have an air freshener in each bathroom, because one female stunk up one of the bathrooms so badly!!! The stench lingered out of the bathroom to the lobby area. They don't have a concession stand and only allow bottled water for people to bring inside (not sure if they permit people to bring snacks to eat during the show). Came here to watch a musical about star wars and it is a cosy little theatre with no frills. I sat in the 2nd row, right in the center and honestly had a great time. I'm not sure if there's heating in the theatre since I was wearing my coat the entire time. My only complaint is the bathroom situation - only 2 bathrooms available and the line is ridiculous before/ after the show. read more

I've been a fan of off-broadway productions since high school - when the Roundabout Theater Company came on the scene in NYC. St. Luke's reminds me of those early days. TDF tix for Baghdaddy put us in the front row of this intimate "church basement" house -- for an immersion comedy/dance/musical experience. This is a fun show about a serious topic. At St. Luke's you are part of the show because of the intimate space. The "12 step" meeting metaphor of this confessional about who started the Iraq war is a perfect foil for the absurdity of war and the dissembling so typical of government bureaucracy. As many critics have said -- this is a play on "Dr. Strangelove" for the 21st century. Our boys enjoyed the experience and the 16 year old could not stop asking "the next question" about war and governments for days -- provoked quite brilliantly by a tight script and credible performances. read more

I came here with a friend to see the Jackie Mason Musical on a Monday night. It's the basement of the St. Luke's church and can hold 100-150 people. This brings me back when I took theatre appreciation class at Rutgers. The waiting area has the wet mildew smell so we walked to Starbucks to kill time. I was very surprised that we were allow to bring our drinks to our seats. We were also able to sit anywhere we wanted. Sadly, not many were in the audience. But, the show must go on! I would come back to check out what other show this place has to offer. read more

I came here with my boyfriend and his ouf of town parents to see "Sistas", as they got $26 tickets on Groupon. We were sitting about 10 rows back (there are 12 rows total), and I could see the stage just fine. I am very short, and the theater was not super crowded. I imagine I may have a different review if someone tall was right in front of me, but my experience was fine. The theater definitely has a church basement feel (because that is what it is), and has a DIY quality to it. A lot of people showed up late, and were ushered to empty seats towards the aisles, so it wasn't too disruptive. The announcement for Sistas encouraged people to react and/or sing along, so it was all together a casual vibe and pretty fun. The show was good and it was easy to get in and out of the theater. A good night out for $26 for sure. read more

Terrible.. I have done several off Broadway theaters. They are usually intimate but well done. This one is terrible- please see the picture of my view to understand- it's not set up well. Additionally, the seat I paid for the same price as someone 8 rows in front of me. Shame on the theater- I'm a fairly tall woman and I'm not in the last row- I can only imagine. You want to charge more for the front? I totally understand, but back where I was there was no line of sight at all-- stagger the seating or charge less for the seats. read more

Was here recently to see My Big Fat Italian Wedding and also the Funeral. Although I preferred the Wedding both were well written. The theater is very small and intimate. I prefer it like this. They could serve beer or have a small bar, thats my only complaint if any. I definitely recommend the theater and both shows. Also don't forget to fill out the form for free tickets. I myself won 2 tickets by doing this. Also the price was fair for Off Broadway. read more

This theatre is a very small intimate space. Auditorium where we saw Ruthless! The Musical is downstairs. I am very ill now so I can't really tell if the temperature of the auditorium is cold or if it was just me so I can't comment on that. But I do suggest bringing a sweater, in case. I guess the one good thing about being in a small intimate theater is how close everyone is to the stage. The seats at least had enough room between people which lately is my pet peeve of most theatres. At least I wasn't elbow to elbow with my neighbour. That's a good thing. It's not the most modern, most up-to-date theatre. Don't expect to be wowed by the decor. Do expect to chuckle at Ruthless! The Musical. read more

This past weekend I went to see, "Going Once, Laughing Twice!" I really wanted to give it more stars; I'm a huge fan of the arts, but I was sadly disappointed by the experience. The theatre itself is small and intimate. My friend and I sat towards the back. The play was interactive. The actual concept was a great idea-- having an auction and the audience members are the ones bidding. Here were the problems, though: -I didn't know where to focus my attention. I think it's cool to have different things going at once, but it was almost as if the actors were talking over each other, and I couldn't concentrate on one thing. -Only interactive if you're lucky. For the entire show, we only had 1 person interact with us and that was when we first walked into the theater. -Bidding wars got out of hand. I know it's fake money, but I was getting annoyed that people just kept putting their #s up when they clearly did not have enough money to bid. Plus, because I was in the back, I pretty much didn't have a chance to win anything. Had those issues not occurred, the show had potential. I laughed a lot at the actor who wanted to buy everything. I also thought it was really funny when they chose the sweet old man as the winner of Heidi Ho's "provocative performance." Maybe had we sat closer the experience would've been different, but the theatre isn't that big for it to have been an issue. Theatre itself was fine. Would go back for a different show. read more

This was my first official Off-Broadway experience and there was no better way to experience it than to go see my friend perform her hit one -woman show They Call Me Q. They Call Me Q is a highly entertaining story about a girl trying to find her identity as an Indian woman with traditional parents and also as a girl from the BX. She draws you into her story as she plays 13 different characters who had a great impact on her life. Last night was the first time I've seen her show Off-Broadway but it won't be the last. Needless to say, if you like to be entertained, you owe it to yourselves to go see this show. read more

Very entertaining characters with scripted and some improv during audience interactions. Ok for kids, fun, and entertaining. A little short lasting only about 90 minutes but well received, and ok for kids with only a few curses but nothing extravagent. Very good show, I enjoyed it. read more

A few weeks ago my friend had tickets to see the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe in the form of a children's story in the basement. The show was quite good for kids, as an adult it was less interesting however it does say "for children" The space itself is not so bad for off-Broadway, the seating capacity is approximately 120 or so.The chairs were a bit uncomfortable as standard folding chairs and the stage is simple without any props. It looks like the space is rented for multiple shows so i suppose each show brings their own props, i would return to see another show. Tip: Arrive early, you are allowed to sit anywhere you like read more

FRIENDS THE MUSICAL PARODY: Do Not Take Mom With You I thought overall, the show was funny & clever but DO NOT go with your mother (like me) for the following reasons: 1.) Wildly inappropriate - I was surprised at how dirty it was considering the actual show wasnt like that. Sitting next to my mom - there were many cringe worthy songs. 2.) If you actually WANT to SEE this play - as people who are 7ft tall will sit directly in front of you and block your entire view. I pretty much only listened. There should be a disclosure that all seats are level and there is a possibility of an obstructed view. My sister went to the Box Office to discuss our seat locations, she said there was nothing she was willing to do as "we waited too long". Uhhh ok! Cue eyeroll. 3.) If you actually WANT to HEAR this play - as the six 40 year old women 2 rows in front of us were drunk and talked THE ENTIRE TIME. People shushed them - it did nothing. read more

Intimate theatre located on 46th Street right off eighth avenue. Small plays with big performances, cast and music of SISTAS were fantastic. Be sure to get there before the show begins as a courtesy to the performers. Parking lot located right across the street for around $30 to 8pm on Sunday. Plenty of restaurants located on the same block if you want a bite to eat after the show. read more

This small venue just off Bway has numerous shows on rotating basis. Most shows play from once a week to three shows a week. Check their boards to see which show is on for the time slot. Staff at the box office is very helpful. Highly recommended visiting this theater. Some of the productions have been there for years. I prefer sitting towards the back as I can see over the front rows. read more

This is not a review for friends the musical, because that was pretty pleasant (with the exception of the weird old man playing Chandler, seriously there was nobody who would look like a better fit in those auditions??) but the staff was so unprofessional. They kept jumping in and out of the tech booth climbing over the back rail, shaking my seat and distracting me from the show. They also had ushers talking behind the last row, and the doors were constantly opening and closing. Even better, one usher was laughing about how people couldn't find the bathroom. That's not really funny, maybe make a better sign. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Went with my special needs students (ages 6-7) here on a trip and we were not accommodated in the least. One of my students is in a wheelchair and there was no wheelchair access for her at all. We were told someone was going to come up to help us and that never happened. My co-teacher and myself had to carry the student and her chair down a flight of stairs. After we get to the bottom, we're told the bathroom is back up the stairs (of course it is!) and rather than helping at all, both the front desk person and the usher just stare at us. Finally a wardrobe/tech person says they have a bathroom behind the stage that we can use. Ok thank you, someone helpful. We rush to bring the student to the tiny bathroom in the back, squeeze ourselves in there and help her onto the toilet. We're in for maybe 5 minutes when the same tech person comes and asks us if we're done because "now we're late to start the show". How rude can you be? By this point I was beyond frustrated. Bottom line: I will not be returning and I definitely will be letting my coworkers know to not book trips here again. read more

I saw The Jackie Mason Musical on June 15 with a friend. The theater was really quaint and comfortable and the show was so delightful that i was planning on bringing my husband for our 10th anniversary. The show since moved to another theater, but when I called St. Luke's, they told me the show was closed and hung up on me. Geez! What was that about? Fortunately, I researched the show and found out myself that it had moved. This is a show with a beautiful new musical score - I just want to hear it again. read more

I'm reviewing the lion the witch and the wardrobe, at saint Luke's theater, 46th street, nyc. this is story telling : 2 actors during the whole show. The young lady is now susan, the next second she's the witch by putting on a crown on her head. you won't see snow, the centaur, the wardrobe, the lamp etc. The show is not for children for the simple reason that they will get bored. great actors but the show needs a full cast to be enjoyed and the stage should have lots of backgrounds : the castle, the snow, the sea, etc. read more

Horrible experience at NYC St. Luke's Theater. DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE environment. I took my 4 year old twins to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There was no assigned seating. We arrived early and sat down in the front row. Shortly thereafter an obese elderly woman came up to me and claimed she had "six seats" in the front row. I did not move from our seats since we arrived first and the seats were available at the time. This disturbed woman then proceeded to forcible grabbed my 4 year old son's arm and shoved him out of his seat causing him to hit his head on the metal frame of the adjacent seat. I immediately complained to the management but they responded by minimizing and dismissing the incident and actively discouraged me from calling the police "because this is a children's show." St. Luke's Theatre is chaotic, poorly managed and has no security thus is a totally unsafe venue for families and children. The following morning my child had bruises on his arms and a sore shoulder due to being assaulted at St. Luke's Theatre. The management took no responsibility for addressing this. read more
