St Moritz used to be one the best bakeries in Greenwich. I am assuming it has sold to new owners from the original. I ordered an assortment of cupcakes They tasted terrible -very disappointing The frosting is clearly made with shortening, not butter, and has an unpleasant after taste. This is not the St. Moritz Bakery I remember. The attendant was very rude and the cupcakes stuffed into boxes so they became unpresentable. I will not be going back. I've lived most of my adult life in greenwich and this bakery used to be the "go to" place for special events. I'm shocked to have ordered one of the worst carrot cakes that I've ever tasted. This bakery has gone downhill. The 10" cake was for a small birthday gathering and I was embarrassed that I brought it to the celebration with my friends. The cake was supposed to be a carrot cake with cream cheese layers! It was all grainy frosting that was thicker than the layers of the cake itself. The thin layers of cake were dry and tasteless. I will not buy anything from that bakery again!! I hope you don't either! I'm glad that we have this forum to warn you not to spend your time and money going there! read more

Been going here for years for their Easter frogs, but they have really gone downhill. My son (who is a broke college student) went there to get me a 7 layer cake for my birthday. The outside was rock hard. The sponge layers were so dry, even 7 layers of buttercream could not save it. Everyone threw their slices in the garbage. I actually went there with the cake hoping they would make it right, and all they did is argue with me and tell me that is how the cake is supposed to be. BAD CAKE and BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE are unforgivable. BTW- I have had this cake in the past and was delicious. Def doing something different. Had heard great reviews of this bakery from many years ago and had to put it to the test today!! The chocolate mousse cake was said to be the best ever and I'm always up for a good chocolate mousse... The Yelp reviews I had read warned me about limited parking so when I found a parking spot I had to take it right away... Only I was a five minute walk from the bakery and there were soooo many spots much closer. So don't worry about parking. The bakery is small and cute, not much on the menu other than the baked goods so if you're looking for a coffee hit the Starbucks on your way in. The staff were nice and friendly getting ready to close for the day. Took the mousse to go so I could eat at home with a cup of tea and friends. We all shared a spoon and it was pretty good, not the best ever and I probably won't go out of my way to get it again. Don't get me wrong it was good enough to satisfy a chocolate mousse craving! If your ever in the Greenwich area of Connecticut in the future and you have a thing for sweets you owe it to yourself to stop by the St. Moritz Pastry Shop. Located on Greenwich Ave a few steps away from the 'Thataway Cafe' (see my review). The best thing about the St. Moritz, for me and my wife anyway, are their 'Rainbow Cookies'. We travel from the Bronx, NY to Greenwich, CT to get their cookies! Unlike other bakeries and pastry shop I have frequented in the past the Rainbow Cookies at the St. Moritz are always moist and packed with flavor (I swear you can taste the fresh raspberry in the cookie!). But all the other treats at the St. Moritz are equally as delicious! The toughest thing you'll find to do when your at the St. Moritz Pastry Shop is deciding what to choose from! read more

I agree with the reviewers who say St. Moritz has gone downhill. Mostly have gone there for their chocolate mousse cakes, which in the past were always sublime. I ordered one this week for a birthday celebration and asked them to write birthday sentiments on the cake, which they did. I thought the cake would have other decorations on it, such as roses, but there were none. At least the person taking my order on the phone could have asked whether I wanted them; I didn't think to ask because I thought they would be added automatically. Their chocolate mousse cakes in the past were always amazingly fresh, but not this one. What a disappointment! Their cakes don't come cheap and while I don't mind paying for quality, who wants to pay that much for a subpar cake? Come on, St. Moritz, you used to be the best bakery in town. read more

I grew up in Germany and Switzerland and there is nothing Swiss about this bakery. It's barely a bakery. I went in there, left side wall was nothing but meringue, right side was a bunch of crappy sugar cookies and some cakes that looked like they came from a factory in New Jersey. A disgrace. read more

Very buttery fresh pastries (chocolate croissants, cheese Danishes with fruit, apple turnovers).. I get them for my office every once in a while and everyone loves them and forego their diets to have one or two. I never have any left overs. St. Moritz is a fabulous bakery. If you're in the mood for a light lunch, I recommend the spinach quiche- It is yummy. I also like the streusel, because it is chock full of apples, and the crust is buttery and light. I have ordered their cookie trays and they never disappoint in flavour and decorative appearance. Most recently, I ordered a large cake. The lady who helped me was so accommodating. I wasn't sure about the number of people who woul attend, but she was very helpful with cake size and servings. They also were very accommodating and creative with my request for decorations. The party is over, everyone was delighted with our Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese frosting, but I look forward to our next party and returning to St. Moritz for their perfect treats and service. read more

Pretty good bakery and cheaper than all the rest. Many years ago it was better but still of good quality. So much to choose from all at fair prices. Like their linzer tarts! Years ago we used to get their chocolate mousse cake. Tried it again years later just last month and happy to say it is exactly the same and just as good. I don't get it. Ordered two items to try. A Napoleon and palmiers. The Napoleon was the worst I have ever tasted. Pastry cream mixed with whipped cream (so I was told) tasted a notch above a Twinkie filling. Dense without flavor. The palmiers had no caramelization and were also tasteless. Make sure you call before you go to find out if their "daily cakes" are indeed available. Website stated that their Red Velvet cake is one of their daily cakes and would be available, not true. We traveled over to the bakery from northwestern Westchester County, NY and that cake was not to be found. Fix your website St Moritz and communicate accurate info. read more

We used St. Moritz for our wedding cake - the cake was great quality for a good price. However, they dropped off the cake and took off before we had the chance to check the cake (or pay them). I don't think they specialize in wedding cakes, but they did a good job. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable service and so many decadent treats to behold. On a recent visit I was wowed by all of the gingerbread chalets and holiday sweets that were ready to be taken home. I decided against all sugary and chocolately items and chose the fresh chicken pot pie. DELICIOUS! I called Barbara several weeks before and asked if she had pictures of previous 3 tier birthday cakes and she suggested I send a picture of what I wanted for my party as she said her baker was very good and could do anything. Anyway, I emailed several pictures of cakes and specified the type of cake I wanted. She told me no problem and would get back to me. I was very excited until she sent me a picture of what the baker could do which was nothing like what I wanted. It was like she had redesigned the cake her way. I was so disappointed as i used St. Moritz in the past and was a hugh fan of the chocolate mousse cake. I then sent Barbara another picture of a simpler cake which she shot down as well. It was like she didn't want my business... I could not believe this was happening. I was appalled that Barbara even suggested I go to another Bakery as she felt I would not be happy with there service and lived in Westchester County NY. I informed her that I would write a review in regards to the horrible service received and she was not bothered one bit. I would like to say to the OWNER, Barbara is detrimental to your front line as she has poor customer service skills, does not know how to deliver a great customer experience and has no regard for your business. In addition to the non-english speaking personnel you have woking as they could not offer assistance because they could not understand me after making several calls to follow-up on my request. You have lost a valued customer because of the overall poor experience received and would not recommend your business to anyone. It appears this is not the same business..... This bakery has the finest products - from the chocolate mousse cake to the smile cookies - it's all delicious. It is crazy expensive but as a treat it is worth it. My only problem with the place is that no matter what time of day I go or how uncrowded it is or how pleasant I am, the attitude there always strikes me as snooty and cold. I always feel like they are doing me a favor by selling me things. I don't go there often so maybe they are nicer to the regulars but it does take away from the total experience. read more

I was there last week, and I spent $10 for 2 pastries. This place has gone downhill big time. I told the girl NOT to give me anything that was stale and I would take pastries that were made today. She went back to the baker and he told her the almond/raspberry tarts were fresh and the chocolate/raspberry cakes were made fresh today. I bought the tarts many times prior. They eliminated the raspberry and I specifically asked if it had the raspberry in them and she said yes. It was as stale as could be and the almond paste was awful. The glazed sugar on top tasted like it was a month old. Then the chocolate roll cake that she said was made that day had butter cream made with obviously a chocolate flavoring and not real chocolate. It was disgusting. The cake was so STALE, it tasted as if it was left out for 2 wks. At $5 a pop for each pastry, I will NEVER buy here again. STALE AWFUL PASTRIES. On the recommendation of other Yelpers, I tried the chocolate mousse cake, and I was not disappointed. The nice part was that while the cake was very rich, it wasn't too sweet. My addiction to this cake has now reached the point that I bought one for myself for my birthday because I felt like I needed another excuse to get one. I've seen so many people carrying their cake boxes on MetroNorth into the city, which tells you that the quality here is above what you can find even in the city. This once favorite bakery has really gone down hill! We stopped in to pick up a couple of Sarah Bernhardts but found that we had to get either a half or full pound so we decided to get a few little treats. The rainbow cookies were stale and tasteless, the Sfogliatelle pastry tasted rancid, the raspberry tart was just OK, and quite frankly I'm afraid to try the apple tart! I'm not a fan of Versailles only because of the snooty service, but I may be forced to go there instead. Now that I'm thinking of it, it's worthwhile to go to DiMare Bakery off Exit 5 instead. I love St. Moritz! They have really nice people there and it's always decorated with awesome chocolate scultures and pretty cookies/cakes like the Mad Tea Party cake I saw there a few days ago. The chocolate sculptures have ranged from giant bunnies to castles to a huge pirate ship! My favorite cakes are the chocolate mousse cake, the lemon tart, and the strawberry shortcake. They have a large selection of cookies and even some candy to choose from as well, my favorite of those are the Sarah Bernhardts and the jam filled chocolate dipped cookies (I have no idea what their name is). Anyway, I recommend that you stop in and try their food! read more
