Wonderful time. We popped in for a drink after walking by around 4:30- 5pm, the bartender was friendly and waitstaff were great in answering questions when we wanted to order food. Hubby and I shared the fish and chips and they were delicious, crispy and fresh, much better than we had eaten at another pub a few days before! Historic pub close to Parliament. Charming atmosphere, decent service. However, they served me a flat pint, and the fish and chips was terrible. Looked like a frozen fish patty (rectangular). Super pricey fish and chips! $87 in pounds for 3 fish and chip plates and 3 pints of beer...Ouch. I guess we should have known better since this spot sits in a prime tourist location and it was packed with mostly American tourists. Lol. Even though it was super busy, we only waited around 10 min for a table. When in London eat as the Brits so we all ordered fish and chips. A nice large sized piece of battered crispy fish (flaky and mild like a cod), a heaping mound of hot crispy chips (fries) all with a side of green peas. The only thing that was lacking in our food was salt but we noticed across the board that English food is not as salty as what we're used to in the US. Those fries would have been banging if had they've been a little salty. The service was ok, we waited a while before catching our server's attention to order. Visited this pub while we were visiting London. Great fish and chips and nice beer selections. Lots of other menu choices. The wait can be a bit long depending on the time of day. If you're looking for the fish and chip thing, pretty much anywhere in this area will taste and cost similar, so you might as well go for the ambiance. This place is right across the street from Big Ben, making it Uber Convenient for the quick tourist meal. Diners seemed all touristy but locals standing at the bar. It was crowded and we had to wait with a beeper it's ode but it was only 5-10 minutes. Yes, many on tap are room temp., which is normal here so no loss of stars for that. read more

Very busy tavern as it is close to all the top attractions in London. Tables are small so I don't really recommend it if you have a large group. We ordered the fish and chips, the scampi and chips and potato skins. The fish and chips outshined all other items we ordered. It is a little overpriced £14, but based on location it's what I expected. At least the portion size was generous. It's a little weird that they seat you but you have to go order from the bar. The food was prompt and hot as you know it didn't linger under a heat lamp before it came to your table. For me the most interesting was seeing the food delivered to the severs via a dumb waiter as I watched them pull hot plates out of a little cabinet near the bar. If you want tavern style experience in London this the place I enjoyed. After a debate at the House of Lords, we were looking for a coffee shop to sit down and carry on the discussion. But neither coffee shop in the vicinity (Nero & Treats) has seating space, which was why we finally ended up in a pub. It was fairly comfortable and drinks were standard pricing. (We didn't try any food). Cosy interiors, but the biting cold and rain outside didn't help. Downstairs to the loo, which seems to have a lot of walk ins just to use it, so its not the cleanest. Staff at the bar who served us our drinks, were quick and efficient. read more

Got a gentle ribbing from the bartender for ordering a half. Later I got another half. The badger beers here were so bland I couldn't commit to a while pint of any of them. Why are their pub beers so lame when their bottles beers are so very tasty? We enjoyed some food here....that at least tastes a bit more interesting than the beer! It's too bad this place isn't better, because it certainly has many gifts. First off the location is amazing, with views of Parliament out the windows and just outside. It's surprisingly calm considering it's in tourist central. I've never found it too overwhelmed with out-of-towners. Always a bit of space available to tip a pint. The interior is cozily appointed: nice fixtures, plush rugs, dark wood. The only thing - and this kills me because I'm all for saving the environment - is the energy efficient bulbs make this place feel sterile and cold, like a hospital operating theater or interview room at police headquarters. Maybe they could invest in some lampshades? The staff was all right. Neither great nor bad. The selection of beer is the same. If you need a pint, you could do worse getting one here, but you'll hardly find some new and unexpected craft beer here. read more

Good pub at a great location. Bartenders are friendly and willing to help you find a beer you'll like. We even had one bartender confiscate one of our beers a few gulps in because it looked too cloudy to him. He promptly replaced it with a fresh full pint! My wife and I returned a second time a couple days later from Waterloo. This time we sat upstairs for lunch. Service was friendly up there albeit a little slow. Stumbled onto this spot during my sightseeing travels in London this fall. Stopped by Big Ben and Parliment and went in for lunch. It is a cozy, old style pub with plenty of ales flowing. Had my first English pub ale, a light Badger pint to start. (Can't really get used to luke warm beer of any kind, but it was good) Ordered the Fish and chips with peas. It was the best i have ever had back home in the US. The fish was tasty and flaky. the batter was crispy. Great flavor. Did not go wrong with this choice. Definitely go after the lunch rush and before the end of the work day. this place fills up fast and you will have to wait. read more

Hate to do this, but easily the worst fish and chips I have ever ordered. Both my wife and I ordered this and did not eat the fish. Bones through the fish combined with a soft and greasy fish made this terrible. When the manager asked us how the meal was, we said the fish was not satisfactory. His response was astonishing....."we rely on our suppliers and can't control the quality from our suppliers." He did not offer a break on the bill either.....just apologies. A very busy location because of Big Ben & Westminster Abbey. The quarters are a bit cramped on the second floor where we ate, but cozy, with a very traditional vibe. The wait staff were congenial for the most part, but inattentive. The food was average, the fish & chips was quite greasy and mostly batter, but not unenjoyable. I was confused by the menu offering black coffee but consequently being told it was an americano. Unsurprisingly, it was a bit of a tourist trap, and quite expensive. Reading existing reviews, not much has changed in the past years. The exterior is appealing which stopped me from entering the first time, being afraid of horrendous prices, but I finally went there with my parents in September. The inside has got a great atmosphere, especially upstairs where you can observe the unique ceiling and overlook the ground floor; however it gets easily crammed when many tables are occupied. The menu goes a bit beyond the usual pub grub such that there are some lighter alternatives to choose from together with a few starters and sides. Real ale is on offer alongside Hofbräu from Munich. The food is good and not that expensive given it is located in an area extremely popular with tourists with the Houses of Parliaments and the Clock Tower are just across the road and the London Eye just across Westminster Bridge. Good food for a better price than you'll find in other parts of town near other attractions. We ate up stairs in a quaint cramped little room with green seating. The tables use little green stools as chairs. The girls who took our order and seated us were very nice and attentive . I ordered the seasonal ale which was o.k., and the fish n chips. They were cheap with the chips and only gave me but one piece of fish. It was good, but again, not great. My son had an apple drink with gas that was good. He also had the Classic hamburger which was disappointing. They didn't even ask him how he wanted it cooked. All burgers are cooked well done there. My daughter had an apple juice that was great. She also ordered the salmon and prawn pie, which she enjoyed. My niece had a Guinness which she enjoyed a lot and the bangers and mash. She reported that her plate was tasty and satisfying. All the plates came with peas that tasted like wax. Why the English don't steam their veggies is a mystery. My wife had a Coke and a bowl of chicken curry that came with rice and bread. It was fantastic. I ended up paying about $30 per person which for London was cheap. We all left happily satisfied. read more

There seems to be a bit of a food island around the House of Commons. Not much selection when you need to eat right away. Came here after going to Westminster Abby. We were able to get a table pretty quickly. You place your order at the bar, the food came out quickly. I have as able to check off my London Steak Pie on my food to eat list. It was fantastic. Stopped in for late breakfast/early lunch on our way to the Abbey and Big Ben. Was lucky and found a table fairly quick. You order at the bar. We got the fish n chips and the appetizer size of the meat pie. The appetizer portion of the meat pie could be a meal, and for 4.75GBP it was a bargain. It was tasty. The fish n chips were good too. I have visited it twice and wasn't blown away. It's definitely conveniently situated near Big Ben and it means that it's very crowded. The amount of people there was huge, we didn't wait very long for food but if you don't like crowds you should steer clear of this place.
