We left the room to get lunch, and provided the nurses station with my mother's number to contact us when he returned. After no call for an hour, we decided to return to check on the status of things and Kayla, a nurse in the ER on day shift informed us as she was coming out of the door that we weren't aloud back, with no explanation as to why. This came as a surprise because she was the nurse in charge of my brother's care when we left. When seeing me she didn't even inform me of the floor my brother was transferred to. Rich, the charge nurse for day shift in the ER, answered when I used the phone that is in the waiting room to connect with staff. I began to explained that we left a few snacks and a beverage in the room because we'd been informed we'd be able to return. On the second sentence I stated "We also left" and he interrupted my sentence stating "The information given to you about your brother returning was incorrect and that it isn't my fault. The food was thrown away because we needed the room. You should've taken it with you if you wanted it. I have patients to tend to so I won't repeat myself. You need to leave". He immediately hung up the phone after this instead of using that phone call to actively listen, hold his team accountable for giving incorrect information, and inform me of what floor my brother was transfers to. I called again, not to cause trouble, but to simple ask if our clothing, shoes and a charger that were left in the room were thrown away as well because I didn't get the chance to on the first call. This call was ignored by the nursing staff. Security was sent out instead to escort us out and they did not have our clothes, shoes or charger in hand. So we explained the situation to them. After a few minutes of speaking with security, they went to the back and returned with a belongings bag that contained our belongings. Instead of apologizing for his actions when the belongings were returned to us by the security guard, he still did NOTHING to rectify his behavior. If Rich actively listened rather than dismissing us, the confusion could have been solved and he would've recognized immediately that we were simply requesting what wasn't thrown away in the room. We were calm, which didn't seem to matter to Rich because he still treated us as if we were belligerent. We understand the ER can be stressful for employees but this was no way to handle a very sick patients' family who is already in distress and remaining calm when the issue that was caused was due to incorrect information provided by their team. I am the one who recommended brother visit Lakeview for my his symptoms because I believe they do a thorough job. However, after today's experience of a lack of empathy, integrity and effective communication from the ER staff our minds have been forever changed when it comes to this ER.

Worst urgent care clinic for veterans and active duty members,…read more I went in with my tricare referral number and they did not want to see me b/c they said it had to be faxed when I have gone to this location for the past year and a half. And NOT once have I had to have my referral faxed over, it was automatically in the system and then everything would carry on as normal but that wasn't the case and they also violated HIPPA by having me speak about what I needed to be seen for in front of patients in the waiting area. The short chubby lady who is supposedly the head nurse was RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL to not only me but also my medical advisor and it was pretty clear that no help was going to be provided. I have never been treated so poorly before in a medical facility.

On the first visit, they diagnosed her with a ruptured eardrum but only prescribed codeine -- a medication that wasn't available at any pharmacy within 20 miles. No alternatives were offered. Her pain worsened to the point we had to return to the ER on the day of our flight home. During the second visit, the doctor incorrectly told her she did not have a ruptured eardrum -- despite her having visible blood and fluid draining from her ear the entire trip. She was left crying in a dirty waiting room for hours, was not given a bed, an IV, or any real pain relief until right before we left. The conditions of the hospital were absolutely filthy, with dead flies on the floor and dirty surfaces everywhere. When she got home to Idaho, a real doctor confirmed she had a ruptured eardrum, severe ear infection, and upper respiratory infection -- all things this hospital either missed or ignored. The staff made the entire process significantly easier to manage. While I was aware of what to expect during recovery, their efforts to ensure my comfort were truly commendable. Dr. Gurtner is an excellent physician, and I appreciate her straightforward approach to my condition. She ensured I was well-informed about the procedure, although, of course, no preparation can fully account for the postoperative period. The staff at SMH East consistently provides healthcare services of the highest quality. I have been a patient at these two hospitals since the 1970s, and the standard of care has remained consistently excellent, regardless of the name change.

As soon as they wheeled me in, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. You couldn't even walk through the hallways because they were completely full of stretchers and beds with patients lying in them. Not the waiting room. The hallways. People were bleeding, passed out, sleeping, and waiting for care. It looked like something straight out of The Walking Dead. I've never seen anything like it. I understand emergency rooms get busy. One of the staff members told me they had just received a large influx of patients within the last 30 minutes. I can understand that. What I can't understand is the quality of care. One staff member came to talk to me, and I asked for a cup of ice. She said, "Okay, I'll be right back." I never saw her again. I sat in that exact same spot for over 30 minutes. It's not like I had been moved and she couldn't find me. She simply never came back. Then it was time to draw my blood and start an IV. Before he even touched me, I told him I have rolling veins and that I'm a difficult stick. I specifically asked him not to fish with the needle. I told him that if he had to fish, I'd rather someone else try. He joked, "I ain't got no bait," trying to be funny. Then he proceeded to do exactly what I asked him not to do. He kept fishing around in my vein with the needle. Usually, if my vein rolls, people stop, remove the needle, and try again or get someone else. He didn't. He just kept digging around. After several minutes, I told him to stop because I didn't want him doing it anymore. He kept saying, "If you don't want me to do something, I won't do it," but by that point, the damage was already done. I grabbed my things, called an Uber, and left. I'm not saying every Ochsner facility is like this because I honestly don't know. I'm talking about the Metairie Emergency Room. Between the overcrowded hallways, the lack of communication, and the way I was treated, this was one of the worst healthcare experiences I've ever had. No one seeking emergency care should have to go through what I experienced.
