Westmalle Tripel .... One of the most authentic and popular Trappist beers in the world

Great representation of the Belgian kitchen ! I felt " in Belgium" during dinner ! Steak was very well made the Belgian way and the fries were awesome! Nice historical overview of Belgian culture with king Philippe and queen Mathilde of Belgium proudly on the wall overlooking the Belgian culture in Peterborough! All famous and " must try " Belgian beers available and served the right way ! Big kudos ! A real little piece of Belgium in beautiful Peterborough! Vivez la Belgique ! En avant Peterborough ! .

Fantastic beer selection - all the Belgian faves and then some! Lovely spot inside with a secluded back patio. The food is delicious and worth the cost. The Brussels sprouts as well as the fries with assorted dips (curry mayo ) are top notch.

    One of our many choices..

Quite the charming bar - I love the decor, feeling like I was in a decades old European restaurant.. Full disclosure, we only drank beer here and did not sample any of their menu. We had reservations down the street and didn't want to spoil our dinner. That being said, this place is awesome if you want to try unique, imported beers. The list is endless and overwhelming, and the server was fairly new and couldn't offer much help. We simply selected blindly with menu descriptions, and none were terrible. Don't see many places like this with such huge unique selections. Great vibe to along with it, making it a great spot to sip the day away.

The Beer Menu here at St Veronus Cafe & Tap Bar might not be as huge as the one I found in Brussels. But for a business in Peterborough, I am really impressed. What should I drink?! Love the detail profile of each beers and it is easier to narrow it down to something that I would enjoy. And of course the friendly staff here really know their beers. Cochonnette ($8.85) and Vedett Extra White ($7.95) were both enjoyable. I just wish I can drink a few more but as usual with the high ABV% of Belgium beer, I have to take it easy. Belgian Frites ($8.00) though cannot compare to what I had in Belgium, so the search for the best frites is still on. The frites here itself is nice and crispy, great to munch on while drinking beer. St Veronus is a gem, not to be miss if you are into Belgium Imports.

Tried a popular pub in Peterborough called St. Veronus, a Belgian themed restaurant specializing in Belgian food and beer. The menu is very limited but offers an excellent selection of mussels and beers. They also have a small selection appetizers, mains and sandwiches. Overall the food, service and atmosphere were excellent. I tried the burger and it too was very good, fries were great. Only negative was a lack of traditional condiments for the burger and fries. Essentially they refused to give me ketchup and mustard which I didn't appreciate. They serve the fries with a mayo based dip, which was good, and a weird curry ketchup which was not so good. But to be fair this is not a burger place, it's a Belgian pub. So if you're into Belgian cuisine you'll enjoy the experience.

We went online to find a good place to eat while in Peterborough on business. Saying this place is good is an absolute disservice. The meal I posted is one of the best meals I have eaten in my life. The portions are very large, so come prepared. And the price point is fair for what you get. Ps... order the brussel sprout salad and the Limburg mussels, you'll thank me later.

I visited St Veronus when we stopped in for lunch before a meeting. The atmosphere was quite nice. Beligan pub with open windows and fresh air coming in. It was a bit windy but refreshing nonetheless after a long winter. After coming here I've decided I am the worst Belgian ever because I actually really hate mayo. A lot of the dishes are served up with mayo on it so I was pretty picky. I decided to get the King Baudouin Soup. "A savoury combination of tiger shrimp, scallops, clams and potatoes in a nutmeg cream broth." Oh my, it was quite good. I loved the fresh bread on the side as well. You only get one shrimp and one scallop but the clams and potatoes were plentiful. I got a chance to try the fries and they are delightful. Try them with the Belgian style ketchup, you will not be disappointed! If I was going to go for a larger meal I would definitely try those mussels. They have so many varieties. Great spot!

I mistakenly came upon Town Crier Pub due to some marketing miscommunication on my part. I saw a lovely lunch special sidewalk sign and thought it was for them, but it was actually for the restaurant next door! However, I was already committed, and I always loved pubbing. Opened in early 2011, it was named after the historical role of town criers who served as the primary news source in medieval times. With the general theme of Belgian and German styles, its owners believed that European beers and news were linked. Would I be crying in my beer at this pub for entering the incorrect eatery in this town!? PURCHASE(S) Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold Lager Beer 5.5% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.50CAD): Golden amber color, aromatic malty aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and malty aftertaste. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=Oks3ELRLtUfkwpMwMfZ7YQ Town Crier Burger + Add Cheese ($17.00CAD + $2.00CAD): A simple burger made with prime rib beef patty, lettuce, pickle, red onion, and tomato on a lightly-grilled bun with an added slice of cheddar cheese, it was a sizable burger and did the job, but there wasn't anything special about it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=XV6Yy6lwP5yngWkIFicroA [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 3.5 of 5.0 STARS] Substitute Onion Rings ($3.00CAD): A good side portion with many rings of generally uniform size, these were hot, lightly golden browned, semi-crunchy, and had a tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) pulled out at times. Although they were somewhat oily, they were good, and didn't come with any dipping sauce. Innis & Gunn Mangoes On The Run Fruited IPA Beer 5.0% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.00CAD): Dark strawberry color, fruity mango tropical aroma, low body, fruity hoppy mango sweet flavor, smooth finish, and slight bitter fruity mango tropical aftertaste. This was my favorite of the two for obvious reasons! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=_MZhEukjAcdC0Qfo4P2Kaw SERVICE I was happily greeted by a young host outside on the sidewalk who then directed me to a nice outdoor patio table perfect for people watching and the weather. He handed me a massive menu, supplied a glass of water, and soon enough I placed my order. My beers arrived quickly while the food took about ten minutes. He checked in often while we chatted throughout the time. It was a cool hang out for lunch - danke! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was in the area all day for the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Otherwise, there were spots along the main drag of John St. and all surrounding streets, some nearby structures, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A cozy snug layout throughout, inside had a loungey warm feeling with a focal bar with a few stools https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=LZIKI_6GFVgLIPXXkbrICA and many closed-in tables; whereas, the outside patio was less formal but equally compact. Inside was very ornate of Belgian and German styles, while outside was casual and simple. Minimal natural lighting entered inside through the few windows and door opening and of course plenty outside while dim electric ceiling and table lights filled in both areas. There were no TVs nor any background music because chatter was everywhere. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=bYpvTBTNnDqaLvrEqNtYtA ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Town Crier Pub had me laughing, talking, and people watching for a relaxing afternoon and would gladly return. The number of beers available both on tap and in bottles was insane and I loved it! The food menu was expansive. The food was fine but nothing special, and the prices were relatively comparable. But, it was the service and staff that literally reeled me in for a good time. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $50.00CAD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... This was perfect because we basically were in a private room, huge plus! We arrived on time for the happy hour and got lots of drinks, no food at all. The shots were pretty watered down or just did not taste 40% vodka at all. Also grabbed two wine bottles outside of the happy hour. Place is quite nice, very fun. Got a free shot, server was so kind as well. A great night indeed. Washroom for women is downstairs and men's washroom was beside the darts room. Would love to come here again for sure.

The food was delicious. I couldn't finish the pasta because I also ate the garlic bread that came with it. So I packed that up to go home. Just keep in mind people this is a pub. It's not a gastro pub where the food is supposed to be michelin star. So adjust your expectations. Having said that I still think the food here is decent. I haven't had any horrible food here. Service: We had a lovely black lady serving us. I didn't catch her name unfortunately. But we have been served by her before. She's perfectly nice & our service from her was great. She took our drink orders first. And then we placed our main dish orders. The food came out relatively quickly as well. We came here for lunch on a Saturday. Ambiance: The furniture has been rearranged a bit. There used to be a sofa at the back near the stairs to the washroom. Now there's a large table there. Other than that it's still the cozy pub vibe. I'm not sure why people have given recent bad review for this place. Hubby & I have been going here on & off for years & not had a bad experience.

This place is a gem on the Danforth - small, cozy, intimate, and perfect for small gatherings and private events (they routinely get booked for private events). Once a month, they host rijstaffel ("rice table") which features an elaborate selection of Indonesian dishes for sharing (need to be booked in advance). Booking process is via email. They usually respond within 1-2 business days confirming your reservation. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. There are various Dutch memorabilia decorating the walls and shelves inside the restaurant, making it feel very 'homey'. There is also a full bar with small TV screen. Food is excellent - both the Dutch and Indonesian options are traditional and delicious. They have traditional Dutch dishes such as bitterballen, krokets, borenkool, snert, and poffertjes, as well as Indonesian classics such as nasi goreng (fried rice), bakmi goreng (fried noodles), satay, gado-gado, and krupuk. The best part about this restaurant is that they can make all dishes vegan! They also tend to have specials (usually 1 drink and 1 food special that are not on the menu), so ask the waiter / waitress what the specials are for the day. Dishes that we tried: DUTCH 1) Boerenkool (Holland's most traditional dish - stewed kale and potato mash with vegan smoked sausage and gravy) - Very hearty. The vegan smoked sausage was slightly crispy on the outside. 2) Vegan Snert (Dutch pea soup with king oyster mushrooms and vegan smoked sausage, served with dark rye bread) - Perfect for winter. Soup was thick, filling, and flavourful. It was interesting to see the king oyster mushrooms made into pulled pork-like texture. The vegan smoked sausage was a bit salty. 3) Poffertjes (Dutch mini puffed pancakes with icing sugar and butter) - Light and not too heavy for dessert. It would've been better with cheese, yogurt, or berries / fresh fruits instead of butter, in my opinion. INDONESIAN 1) Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice with fried egg, sambal, seroendeng, and pickled cucumber) - Our favourite dish here! It tasted authentically Indonesian with the sweet soy sauce. Loved the fried egg on top with runny yolk, and the toasted coconut and peanuts that added a nice, flavourful crunch to every bite. 2) Gado-Gado (Indonesian salad of seasonal vegetables with tofu, hard-boiled eggs, and peanut satay sauce) - I liked that this was light (the sauce was not overdone) and the vegetables were still crunchy. The vegetables were not really what's in a typical gado-gado, but I still enjoyed it very much, that we ended up ordering 2 of this same dish to get extra veggies!
