These are definitely my favorite Montreal bagels…read more As a NYC native, I think I am qualified to judge bagels. NYC bagels are definitely the best but these bagels are right up there as well. The biggest difference has to be the hint of sweet that comes from the honey. I did really like that hint of sweetness in my bagel. I was especially enamored with the poppy ones, the aroma and flavor of those were really punchy. The onion and garlic were also very aromatic. I also enjoyed these bagels as the natives do, ripping and dunking them in the cream cheese. The Tre Selle containers of cream cheese were lighter and less dense than the Philadelphia cream cheese I normally get with my bagels. Supposedly it's not a dense because it has less preservatives. I tried the bagel crisps and other items but the bagels are definitely the draw. I ended up grabbing a dozen for my trip back to the states. Fairmount doesn't have as many locations as the main competitor in the area and these is no where to eat in. This is strictly a grab your bagels to go, the ambiance is compact once inside.

I would say that the "Le Joe Bagel" was a little sweet for us since it had fig in it. The spicy everything bagel was good and the jalapeno cream cheese had a good kick to it too. But my favorite was the maple apple bagel since it was just simple and nice. The bagel itself looks smaller than a New York bagel but it's more dense and gives a good pretzel feel to it. They also have indoor seating as well which is very convienent and ideal. These bagels themselves are typical of Montreal, a hint of sweet and a well wrapped spiced bagel. Combine these bagels with a Tre Selle cream cheese, which is not as dense or full of preservatives, and it's pure bliss for any bagel lover. I did find these bagels to be sturdier than the competition, the exterior chew definitely a little more of a workout for the jaw, but I'd still give St Viateur another retry the next time I visit Montreal.

Located in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, the St Viateur bagel factory has been in the same place for decades. This brand along with Fairmount, are the two best known bagel shops in the city. As you walk in, you can see the workers churning fresh bagels at all times of the day. I got the cinnamon raisin bagel, which was not freshly baked, whereas my husband got the sesame bagel, right off the line and it was warm and delicious....the best thing is to get whatever is fresh off the line and that will make anyone happy.....fresh and warm..... Cream cheese can be bought right there, but there's no place to eat it, so grab a bench nearby or a coffee at one of the nearby coffee shops and enjoy your St Viateur bagel.

I was intrigued, and since I can always go for some carbs I decided to head in and check this place out. Unlike most bakeries I visited, Boulangerie Guillaume has a much more modern look, and is larger than a standard bakery. Walking in, I was immediately greeted by stairs which led up to the main production area. All of the bakes were arranged on the back-wall perimeter of the space separated from the pedestrians by a glass wall. The color scheme was mostly black to contrast the bright yellow of the bags and signage. The arrangement of the bakes, combined with the color scheme and modern aesthetics, resulted in a stunning, visually striking presentation. I wasn't too hungry, but I can always go for some sweets and their date square looked good. I went with that, along with a cappuccino. The square was delicious - the dates were high quality, and the crust underneath was moist while maintaining its integrity. The cappuccino was also good, a great complement to the bake. Service was efficient, and overall I had a great experience at Boulangerie Guillaume. I definitely want to return to explore more of their menu - I noticed they had some savory items so perhaps for some lunch. Definitely one of the best bakeries I visited in Montreal.

I decided to try Snowdon Deli during the holidays on my way to Quebec City, since it's a short detour off A15. Interior is pretty standard, diner style. Service was excellent, everyone treated my family very well. I had the smoked meat sandwich with medium fat, while my parents shared a smoked meat platter, also with medium fat. Now it's been a while since I've had legit smoked meat from Montreal, but man, it was delicious. Portions were very generous as well, and for the platter you can refill the bread for free if you wish. Will definitely return here!
