I've been going to Sousan now for well over a year for haircuts and have to say she does a great job every time. In the past I've been to a lot of barbershops downtown where I'd leave and feel like I've got to make my own additional cuts when I'd get home. Excellent barbershop. Sometimes it gets busy so I recommend calling and booking an appointment. It's hard to believe the barber cuts my hair so quickly and yet does a masterful job at it. As with most barber shops, this place is not open on Mondays. Susan greeted me the moment I walked through the door. I had my cut finished within fifteen minutes and it is exactly the way I like it. This is precisely what I expect of a barbershop, an accurate cut by a deft hand, done quickly and efficiently so I can get on with my day. That Susan is friendly and personable made it that much better an experience. St. Vincent Barber Shop is a bit hard to find (review my supplied photos), but look for the St. Vincent Court which faces 7th street, on the north side of that street, between Hill and Broadway. As you enter the court, look to the left. The barber shop is small and nestled between a restaurant and a print shop. Trying to find this place can be a challenge (it's in an alley in DTLA), but your time and effort will be rewarded. I know mine were. Susan is great at what she does. I came to her a day removed from arriving in the City of Angels in need of a shaved head. Though the back of my head was riddled with scars from psoriasis, she used her clippers with precision and care. Most female stylists would refuse to see me whenever my skin is flaring up, but Susan was very understanding when I explained my situation. I need to be bald, per doctor's orders. Not a strand of hair remained, which was how I wanted it. In a world where $20 is the normal asking price for a haircut, I say that the one Susan gave me was the best $12 I ever spent. Did I mention that 12 is my number? I'm confident that I will drop by St Vincent when I'm again in L.A. and feel I could lose an inch or so off my chrome. read more

I first popped into this place a few months ago, shortly after moving to DTLA. After reading many rave reviews on yelp, I decided to give it a shot and get my haircut. There is no real technique being used, it's all pretty straightforward buzz and clip. It was quick (15 mins) and easy, and it didn't look bad. It wasn't exactly what I explained I wanted, but it wasn't bad. It also was inexpensive, which everyone else seems to really love about this place. My heart wasn't set on this place to be my go-to, and after trying out a few different barbers at Bolt (same quality haircut, way overpriced), I finally found somewhere I could rely on for a great quality cut at Truth barber lounge, but for a much higher price. After continually getting my haircut at Truth, it was adding up to be a little too much ($40/$45 per visit, getting my hair cut every 2/3 weeks), so I decided to give this place another shot. 3 haircuts go by, none of them are amazing, but they look fine and they're closer to what I originally wanted the first visit, AND it's saving me half the price. Fast forward to today: I just got home from a cut with Susan. She's a very sweet lady but she seemed a little spacey today. It would explain the spot on the right side of my head which is jagged and closer shaven than the rest of my unevenly left sides. For the most part everything else looks fine but I'm not sure if there's saving this mistake. It'd be easier to fix if she left a bit of hair longer than the rest, but I can't make my hair grow out to fill out a badly cut spot. I'm going to try to go to Truth tomorrow and see what they can do lol. TL;DR You get what you pay for. A $20 cut, in less than 20 mins. The quality of this place is as average as you can get. You'll notice most people reviewing this place give it 5 stars, with price and speediness being their biggest reasonings. Other than that, I'm convinced those who give it a full 5 have no idea what an excellent haircut is or are satisfied with having a less than wonderful cut. Susan is very nice, but if you want a really great cut, you'll have to chip out the extra money for it. read more

Just went here for the first time today. I think it was fine. Was in and out in 15 minutes. Thought it was more expensive then some of the other reviewers said ($25 plus $5 tip). Not good value but convenient as it's walking distance from work. I prefer the Westerner in the outskirts of Downtown. A little bit more expensive, a much better cut, but horrendous parking especially during baseball season. read more

I was looking for a new barber because I was tired of the attitude and price at Bolt. A quick search on Yelp brought me to this place. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. After all, even if it was bad, hair grows back, right? Well, this woman is legit. I went in to her tiny shop, asked for a slicked back undercut and after I explained to her what that was, she gave me the best haircut I had in a long time. I've been back several times. I found some salons with good reviews in downtown area. I called them, but most of them were around $45-$50. That is definitely more than what I wanna pay for a haircut. First I was skeptical about this place, just because it didn't have a lot of reviews. But I decided to give it a try. The store was a little hard to find, but it really was OK. I went in and a friendly woman named Susan greeted me. I was surprised that she was Persian just like me. She was very professional, and precise. At the end, I was happy with my haircut.
