Cecilia with her cat after cleaning up my hair

First time as a walk-In and took care of me right away. Cecilia it's amazing and quite lovely with her cat " lonely" Definitely will come back.

What is ironic is the lengths hipsters will go to to recreate what they imagine a real barber shop might have been like in the 1930s, only to charge $35 for a men's haircut that is sloppy and devoid of any real craftsmanship--and people pay for it! Echo barber has one chair (as most old school barbers did) and a second generation barber who was trained by her father. Her father was trained as old school barbers used to be trained: the apprentice method. A barber in Chihuahua promised to take him on if he would first work as a shoeshine boy. I learned all this while the barber gave me skillful 8 dollar haircut. You read that right: 8 bucks. A remarkable feat in the age of the 4 dollar coffee, to be sure. Not to mention a complimentary straight razor shave on your neck and Mexican Coke to quench your thirst. It should be noted too that in 1935 the price of a haircut was 36¢. With inflation that would be $6 today.

The place is poorly decorated. It's very cramped and cluttered. The radio plays some station in spanish that's between stations and makes static when the clippers are running. All this is funny and has nothing to do with the haircut. All Juan's tools are regularly sterilized, cleaned and organized. The razor's always super sharp. The hair cut will take a while as he carefully eliminates every stray. I'm not a fan of long hair cuts but he is not slow, he's just detailed. The time is well worth it. He speaks English and Spanish and is quiet and nice. You'll get exactly what you want. Currently, he's only charging $8 per cut and it's way better than any cut I've ever gotten at Rudy's, Floyd's or Supercuts.

He was also open about where my hair needed more growth before making cuts so I knew what areas would still be a challenge afterwards. Bring photos of your cuts you've loved. Kei uses them to dial in your style with precision. The bonus? The setting itself. You're sitting in a vintage Kochs Chicago barber chair that swivels toward their original hair wash stations, all housed in a historic 1920s building steps from the Eastern Columbia bldg in DTLA's Historic Core. I have a fairly simple understanding of hairstyles and proper hair maintenance. The barber Javin asked me questions about my usual hairstyle and went through suggestions regarding trimming technique. Ultimately, I went with low fade with and a touch up on the top. He mentioned my two hair whorls and overall head shape provided some considerations on what he thought would look natural, which I appreciated. In the end, the fade was perfect. Afterwards I went in for quick shampoo and conditioner which targeted my dandruff. While the location is somewhat out of the way for me, I can definitely rely on their dedication and handiwork.

I'd been getting the same high fade for a decade and wanted to try the longer wave thing everyone's doing. The first barber I asked for it butchered it, mostly because he'd never done a long cut in his life. Gianni took one look, diagnosed what was actually going on up there, and got me to a halfway cut. A couple months later, the cut grew in as he planned and he took me from 80 to 100%, right in time for my vow renewal. His profile calls him the brushback king and I couldn't agree more. Fair warning: he's meticulous, so plan on real time in the chair. You get what you pay for! Also book ahead. At least a month, in my experience. Gianni's popular and I've never once seen anyone get off the waitlist. The shop itself is worth the trip on its own. Great furniture, plants everywhere, and a back patio you can sit on if you're early or just want to hang. Vibes and the place is always clean. Their systems are top notch too. Plenty of notice before your appointment, everything organized, they offer you a drink when you sit down, and they use good products from the wash through the styling. The host is always so nice, everyone there is personable, and the music's great. One heads up: no parking lot. Street parking can be iffy if you catch a bad day, but there's usually at least one spot within a block. Go see Gianni!

Valerie was my manicurist and she took her time giving me the full works on my very easy hands and toes because they were pretty short already but she was meticulous with everything. She did a great job. I liked the whole thing but as I look at some of the reviews the one thing I never hear anyone mention about is the price and at $150 for a Mani pedi some may say it's expensive, sheesh, I'm saying it.
