This is a weak 3-star review. Why? Slow. 65 minutes for two burgers, two beers and one order of onion rings. Inadequate performance for workers on a strict lunch period. Well done burger was well done. Medium rare burger was medium. Hot food served hot. Cold food served cold. Slow. Not busy at lunchtime. Not at all busy. Two waitresses. A tad inattentive. Beer was empty for ~15 minutes before she noticed and inquired if a wanted another. Plenty of time to deliver silverware, napkins and condiments before the food arrived, but that was a missed opportunity. When the food arrived, I retrieved everything myself. Have I mentioned inattentive or slow? Burgers and onion rings were served very hot, thank you. Ingredients were fine, but the usual Sysco or GFS stuff. Will I visit again? Probably not. Duffy's is a bit cheaper and understands us stiffs that are on a tight schedule. read more

Came here with a friend and overall it's a great place for burgers and to watch any sporting event. I had a great time. Place is cozy, dive-bar like, and has great service. I didn't stay for a meal nor did I have a cocktail!! I didn't feel like I was welcomed in that establishment!!!! I walked in and felt like a foreigner in a different world!! Bartender wasn't trying to serve me. I waited almost ten minutes for a server but I got looks instead. Bad experience for me and the atmosphere was so bad that I felt like I really needed to get out of there and fast. I was the only person of color in this place!! Visited during lent on a Friday and ordered the walleye dinner. Very glad I did, it was a huge piece of hand battered fish. On the other hand, the cod is pre-battered and frozen like fish sticks. You know anywhere with tots is automatically getting four stars from me. Stables is a great neighborhood bar with an eclectic crowd that'll never judge you upon entry. If you're into sports, they have plenty of TVs and free Wi-Fi as well. Drinks are priced decently, but don't come here for craft beer, as they're a Miller/Molson/Budweiser kind of place. Stables has a surprisingly large food menu with a variety of fried appetizers ranging from $3 to $7 (including my coveted tater tots!). You'll also find burgers, salads and homemade soup on their menu. Carryout is also available. The real draw is Thursday night trivia which starts at 8pm and runs for a couple hours. This weekly event will almost always draw a full house, so get there early. Trivia is free to play and instructions are stated every session, so don't worry if you've never been before. If you win, you'll walk away with a free Stables gift card. If you're looking for a friendly bar with welcoming staff and patrons, give Stables a visit. Poor customer service....My coworkers and I are healthcare workers in the area and we occasionally order soups and other items from them. I have been told on 2 occasions that we can't order as many as we do (we ordered 9) because they have customers that come in specially for the soup (the same reason we come in) #1 I thought the object was to sell the soup #2 we are customers as well! If they didn't want to sell to us the should not have taken the order! We will gladly spend money with someone else! I've noticed the majority of the customers are white and we are African American and they look at us really strange when we come in I'd really hate to think it's a race issue! This is a bar first and foremost, and I lost sight of this before I went there yesterday. Stables did seem like a neighborhood bar, and what I mean by that is there were a lot of regulars. The bar was dimly lit and very loud. For dinner, I ordered the chicken breast and it came with a salad and steamed vegetables. The salad was okay but it was lettuce, tomato and onions, and they gave me a Kraft dressing pouch. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but the steamed vegetable were slimy because they were frozen. Overall, I should have order more traditional bar food like a burger. The drinks...This is why everyone should go to Stables. When we went they had a Coors Light special of $2.50 a pint. The waitress said that domestic are between 2.50-3.75 and craft is 4.50-5. Awesome! I will be walking to this bar for all of the Lions games. In any other city, this would be a 3 star establishment. But in the depressingly sterile, soulless, big-box landscape of Livonia, Stables fills a void. It's not memorable or unique or even that great. But it's your classic, comfortable, approachable local dive. Bucket specials, trivia nights, greasy bar food, keno, creepy old men. It is what it is, and it does it well. And when you can't bring yourself to order that $13 specialty (sugar water) margarita from Chili's or Applebee's or whatever... Head to Stables and spend that $13 on two domestics and a well shot instead. read more

This is a small bar and very dark inside, but definitely a place where regulars would be known by name. One of the main reasons I go back is for the great Potato skins and Corn Beef on Rye. Free Refills on pop. Free Popcorn. Their service was alittle slow since one waitress (Jenny) was in charge of the whole bar of about 150 customers. But she appoligized and served us our food arrived within 20 minutes. The Food was hot and delicious and the drinks Ice Cold, She deserved a great tip for effort. They offer Happy Hour Monday - Friday 4:00pm - 7:00pm Discounts only on Drinks. They offer: Darts, Video games, Keno, Rip-Off Tickets and Internet Jukebox (Optional-Fee extra) On Thursdays they have Motorcity Trivia where you can win Up to $30, No cost to play. Don't call it a dive. A couple years ago I made that mistake in a chat with one of the owners, when I called it "one of my favorite dive bars". She didn't agree. And that description is probably inaccurate, anyway. It's a locals bar, not a dive. Good, cheap food and drinks (it was a couple bucks for a really solid long island ice tea, last I checked), and a nice quiet atmosphere. Pub trivia, darts and the rest of the basics for a good neighborhood bar. Pleasant enough local bar. Had a nice crowd but not too busy on a Friday afternoon. Food was a little above average and I enjoyed the homemade "frip" chips, homemade chips served with sour cream, and chives and an order of fried pickles. You could definitely do worse if you are looking for a burger and a beer with good service. There was one thing that got my inner pet peeve dog to raise his proverbial hackles. I had a mushroom Swiss burger and ordered it medium. It came pseudo-incinerated well done, as does nearly every burger I order it seems. I understand the desire for places to want to cook a burger thoroughly for safety reasons but it was dry and even with a pretty generous pile of melted Swiss and grilled onions being swept down my gullet with a river of ice cold Labatt's it was killing my enjoyment of the burger. This goes out to the universe and not just to the Stables but seriously stop asking me how I want my burger if you are going to cook it to ubiquitously over done. Wow, review going down one star since our last time there. Met hubby for a date night/ couple drinks here this past weekend and interior seemed even dingier than our last visit the music was SCREAMING loud even though it was only 3:30 in the afternoon. My husband had bottled bud light which is impossible to mess up but my diet and Captain drinks were watered down so much that I could not even taste any alcohol in it. We looked at the menu thinking we might have a bit of bar food but decided against it remembering our last experience with a meal there. Probably my favorite "dive" type bar nearby Livonia. I usually frequent nicer bars with better beer selections, but I find myself here quite frequently. Generally when I am back in town in Livonia, this is usually my go-to bar to meet up with friends. The crowd goes across all generations. There will be tables with 20 somethings, next to tables with middle aged people. Any age group can show up and feel welcome. The food menu is OK. Its what you would expect for a small hole in the wall type bar. We've always enjoyed it, and the prices are very reasonable. The beer selection is limited, and mostly domestics on draft. However, the prices are cheap, and its easy to split a pitcher with friends. I've had fun at Karaoke nights with my friends, although it can get kind of loud. Its usually fun on Saturday nights. They'll usually have games on TVs which are all over the bar, but I wouldn't say its a sports bar, or a place people go to watch a game. It is good at accommodating those who do want to watch it. The server has always been great, and I've found all of the staff to be very friendly, prompt and polite. If you are looking for a cheap, nice place to meet with friends, this is a great local establishment to go to. read more

After recently being introduced to Stables, I never knew how much of a staple it is for people over on the West-Side of Detroit. The only reason I found out about it because it was the sponsor of a softball team I play on... however, little did I know that it was a gem in so many peoples' eyes. Its a bar. Its got cheesy service... but the best part about it is the fact that they are always right there on the spot with a refill, a new pitcher of beer, and they have some tasty food that will make everything better. Our waitress was awesome and quick, checked the table super often and the drinks and good came out quickly. It's run of the mill fried foods but very reasonably priced. This place is pretty cool. If you come here make sure you try one of their moist towelettes. They're known for them which is why it's the first picture on this page. Very moist and you really feel like your hands are clean afterwards. Also, I didn't have them myself, but I heard that their Van De Kamp's fish fillets are even better than the ones at the supermarket. As basic a neighborhood bar as you'll ever find, and that's a good thing. Every town should (and probably does) have one of these. Good food, cold drinks, lots of TVs, exactly what you want for service (they leave you alone but are never inattentive). I'm sure you could pick just about anything on the menu and it would be good enough. I had the reuben and the beef vegetable soup (which was 4-star quality). I'll bet they have a trivia night, show whatever that week's "big game" is on every TV, and the usual rotation of specials (wing night, dirt cheap ground round, etc...). It may not be a place where "everybody knows your name", but you'll know exactly who and what they are as soon as you walk through the door. read more

My friends and I LOVE stables. It's our go to bar, especially with it being so close to home. The service is always friendly, fast, and accurate! We like to go here on the weekends, order some beers, have some food, play darts, pull tabs, and some music on the digital jukebox. The food is so good, especially their good ol' bar burger.
