It's an oasis of green trees, bushes, and grasses dotted with the most beautiful variety of flowers. There's classic statuary, stone walls, an artists cabin, scattered chairs and benches, the stately old home and, of course, marvelous views of the calm Salmon Falls River. If you look closely, you might spot a heron or several turtles coming out of the mud, marching slowly toward the tidal waters as the river's edge fills back in. You can even access Vaughan Woods from a footpath, if you'd like to get a hike in. Of course, you can always bring a blanket, a picnic, and just enjoy the gorgeousness that surrounds you. Bathroom situation: in season there's a wee house-type structure that opens into a single, large bathroom. It appears to be cleaned and stocked regularly.

The Red Barn was the first venue we looked at. We knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony, outdoor space for cocktail hour, and a beautiful, big room. The Red Barn checked all the boxes. We put down our deposit the very next day as we knew this was a venue we did not want to sleep on! Planning was SO easy and straightforward. As soon as we booked, we got set up with the amazing Alex, who was going to be our day of coordinator. She was communicative, helpful, and patient. She responded quickly to every annoying query I had, she kept us updated with our timeline of planning, and she was understanding when oopsie- we missed the tasting we were supposed to go to. She graciously set us up at the next one with no questions or drama. The planning process was very smooth due to Alex's expertise. The rehearsal was stress free and straightforward. The day of our wedding was more than we could ask for. Literally everything went to plan due to Alex being so on top of everything. She was kind to the many personalities in both of our families and felt more like a friend to us by the end of night. I cannot say enough good things about the Red Barn as a venue for a wedding. It is absolutely gorgeous, I feel like we did not need too many decorations as the venue itself is stunning. The food was delicious! During cocktail hour, it felt like there were so many servers with so much food, on top of the stunning cheese and fruit display. The kitchen was also very helpful and sensitive to the allergies in our group- one being my husband who had a nut allergy. The drinks and bartenders were fabulous- we told Alex that our group drank a lot of espresso martinis and the bartenders were ready when we started ordering them. AND they were delicious to boot. The staff was fabulous! All of the servers were professional and personable. The price for everything and the many options for food and drink were well suited to many budgets. I could gush for many more paragraphs about how amazing this venue is. Alex and the crew have made the Red Barn into a well-oiled machine. I cannot say anything bad about our experience and I know I can attribute that to them. Our guests are still talking about our venue months later. If you want to have the most amazing wedding day at a beautiful venue with wonderful people, do yourself a favor and book the Red Barn. You will not regret it. We were able to custom tailor the menu to be exactly what we wanted to serve, and it was all made on-site from fresh ingredients - something that is not easy to find at event venues. My family is Italian, from New York and hard to please when it comes to food, and they were all raving about every single dish that was served. Donna's assistance leading up to the event in coordinating with vendors and her hands-on presence during event night made the process seamless. I didn't have a wedding planner / day-of coordinator, and ended up not needing one - she made everything happen perfectly, even making sure our elderly guests had easy access to their seats. Took a drive up this past weekend for the Disney After Dark Burlesque show. It's a classic old…read moreschool theatre tucked in the downtown area of Dover. The facility and property has been well maintained. The new ownership and staff working were very outgoing and kind and helpful. I think the lady serving the liquor was part of the ownership or management. Very nice and welcoming. They are going to be showing Hocus Pocus, classic 90s Halloween film this season. Along w Rocky Horror Picture show and other classics from the golden era of film. Horror movies like Halloween or Friday the 13th would be great as well. It's a great and perfect throwback to yesteryear with the layout and how they do things. The owner said they do trivia and Cuban dance lessons among other fun events there. It's really a great find and I wish more towns had these small local joints where it's intimate and fun and a great experience. The burlesque show was awesome. All the woman were attractive and the show was great. My first ever. Looking forward to my next visit at the Strand. A great spot when in Dover to visit.
