My Husband and I just got back from a 2 night stay at the Inn. That's all I can say is WOW!!! If you have never been, you are missing out. The Inn is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. Su and Andy, the owners, were wonderful. They went over a map and circled points of interest. Now let me get to the Breakfasts. ANOTHER WOW!!! Host & Hostess were very kind , made us feel very at home . The breakfast was excellent with assortment of pastry items , stuffed berry baked French toast and maple sausage . We loved having breakfast and coffee on the front porch . The Inn is beautiful Victorian era , super clean . Our bed had crisp sheets with very comfy bedding . A cozy location that is slightly hidden off the road (the website mentions white fences to mark the entrance, but in reality these fences are obscured by greenery), the grounds are very pretty once you find them. Andy seems to be the frontman of Tanglewood, as he pleasantly greeted us and gave us the ins and outs of the Inn. Looking forward to exploring the area further. read more

Beautiful location and quaint atmosphere. The house is adorable. The bed was really comfortable and nice clean sheets! Andy and Sue are the owners of the property. My wife and I stayed at the Inn at Tanglewood on Monday, 08/04/14 through Wednesday, 08/06/14. The Inn's driveway was a bit difficult to find at first. By the time we saw the sign we were past the driveway. The driveway was also partially hidden by some large bushes making it even more difficult to spot. As we drove down the unpaved driveway we were a little disappointed in the landscaping. It appeared unkept and the bushes were over grown. In reading past reviews, the owner's claim that the landscaping is "Characteristic of many 19th century homes here in York Harbor." I have been coming to York Beach, ME for probably just as long as the owners have and can say their grounds are not characteristic of many 19th century homes there. For example, while driving down the driveway the sides of our car scraped the overgrown bushes on either side of the driveway, two rhododendron on either side of their garage were so huge and unmanicured that the garage door was mostly covered, and while sitting on the porch for breakfast, I saw a vine that was so out of control it tore a down spout from the gutter right off the roof. Furthermore, I think that it can be expected that a four star bed and breakfast have a paved driveway. The exterior of the Inn was tired and in need of some TLC too. If you have a room on the second floor just look out the window and see for yourself. When we entered the Inn we were met by Andy, the owner. He was very friendly and helpful. He gave us a tour of the Inn and brought us to our room, #2, on the second floor. The room was good size and had a TV, window A/C unit, magazines, two chairs, and a bathroom. The bathroom had a shower and was very small. The sink was actually in the room. The bed was queen size and very soft. I prefer a firmer mattress but my wife loved it. The room decoration was nice but the fake flowers were unnecessary. All they do is attract dust and cob webs. The Inn was very quiet each night and the Inn Keepers were thoughtful about security. The first morning, for breakfast, we had a banana bread, French toast, type casserole, breakfast sausage, yogurt, fresh fruit, OJ, coffee, breads and watermelon and strawberry juice. Breakfast was really good but the sausage I had was under cooked. Andy's wife, Su, was present at breakfast and was pleasant company. They also leave home made cookies, granola, chocolates, tea and coffee out all day for guests. Before we left for the day, Su and Andy were very helpful and asked us if we needed anything. The next morning we had a scrambled egg dish with peppers and onions with a spicy sauce on top and a side of Canadian bacon. We ate outside on the deck but it was hard to enjoy the grounds because of the over grown landscaping as I mentioned earlier. I expect a four star rated B&B to be intimate and personable AND have well manicured grounds. If the Inn keepers can't do this then they shouldn't be Inn keepers or expect a lower star rating. As a business owner one must be open to constructive criticism from guests' reviews. As I read Sue and Andy's past responses from guest reviews, on Trip Advisor, I did not get this feeling from them. It seems that they take offense to guest comments and are closed minded about them. I even read other past guest reviews that state similar observations, as mine, about the grounds. As a customer, I expect certain things therefore if they are not right when I am there, I do not complain, unless it's severe. You will, however, see it in my reviews. If you can't get it right don't try and twist it by saying "They didn't complain while they were here." On a side note, for the record, we never saw any deer or other wildlife on the grounds. Overall it was a good stay. Andy and Su were great but I have to wonder about their sincereity, the Inn was nice and quiet and the location, near the beach, is great but because of the points I listed it just wasn't 4 stars for me and I think I am being generous by giving the Inn three stars.. read more

A welcoming inn run by a friendly and helpful couple. My room was spacious and had a comfortable bed, but the decor was a bit tired. Breakfast was OK, but barely warm when I came down at 9:30. Andy, you have a big voice, it carries. Thank you both for a pleasant stay. read more

My husband & I stayed at the Inn at Tanglewood last weekend. It was our first time at a B&B and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The decor at the inn was eclectic & interesting. We stayed in one of the larger suites, which was charming & spacious. Although the house is most definitely "vintage" everything was kept immaculately clean. Andy was extremely helpful in suggesting restaurants, activities, and even the best routes to take on our little excursions. Su keeps a lower public profile, but they are both clearly instrumental in keeping their B&B running smoothly. We never imagined there was so much to do in & around the York area, and look forward to returning to Inn at Tanglewood. Next time we think we may stay in the room that was formerly a library! read more

The Inn at Tanglewood Hall is a delight from the moment you arrive until second you leave. Inn keepers Su and Andy go out of their way to make sure your visit to York Maine is a spectacular experience. We have stayed with them three times. Each visit feels like a visit home. Upon arrival we are greeted with enthusiasm and warmth. The home is meticulously kept. Our rooms were warm, cozy and very comfortable. We stayed in three different rooms during this visit. Our favorite is the York Harbor Suite. Every morning we awake to the smell of a delicious breakfast which we enjoyed on the large front porch while dining with other guests and watching birds flicker in the surrounding trees and greenery. We can't say enough good things about this inn and the hosts. If you are looking for a place to stay in southern Maine with great convenience to the beach, Portland and Portsmouth this is your place. We already booked the York Harbor Suite for eight nights next year. We can't wait to visit Andy and Su again. read more

After having such an enjoyable honeymoon at the inn a few months ago, my husband and I decided to spend valentines weekend at the inn. While the inn is charming, we had a different experience this time. The inn was full and my husband felt rushed at breakfast, with the owners wanting to take his plate away right after finishing. The major incident that occured, however, was our being treated rudely by the wife, Su. We were having cocoa in the dining room and there was a jar of valentine cookies for guests. After we each had a cookie, Su came in while I was getting more and snapped that she only made a small amount and if we wanted more cookies, she would bring us another kind, as she wanted to save the valentines cookies for other guests. We were the only guests in the house at the time and I couldn't believe she had scolded me like a child for wanting another cookie! If she was so concerned about running out, she should have made more. My husband and I were mortified. We were repeat customers who paid a considerable amount of money to stay there and we were being told we couldn't have another cookie?? By the way, when we returned from dinner, we checked the cookie jar and there were still cookies in it! To Andy and especially Su, you just lost a customer. We will never come back to your inn. read more

We called to see if there was any possibility of renting a room for one night over Memorial Day weekend, knowing that the policy was a two night minimum. I was about to explain that I would gladly pay the two night price but stay only one, when the woman in the phone snapped, "Absolutely not...certainly not over Memorial Day weekend." We're so disappointed to find this level of rudeness in such a beautiful inn. We see from other reviews and from a friend who is a neighbor in York Harbor that this is not unusual. So sad for such a gorgeous property. read more

The inn has a blowsy but charming appearance outside: at night LED lights twinkle in the garden like fairies over the plantings and fountains. The porch furniture (hammock and rockers) was very comfortable and usable which allowed one to enjoy the evening and garden lights. Interior spaces were appropriately late-Victorian. Our room was comfortable and my daughter and I liked the decor. Guest amenities such coffees, teas, cookies, treats, and juice were much appreciated and the interior public spaces were comfortable and inviting. However, I got the impression the hosts would be more comfortable if people didn't use them. Also, after being given a friendly tour on our arrival, we were discouraged from eating breakfast inside when that was what we wanted to do. Andy was always willing to help, but Su was remarkably aloof for an innkeeper the few times we saw her. This was also the first time in our years of B&B experience where the hostess chose to bang on the door before 11 o'clock to ask if we were "ok", i.e., ready to get out. In fact our bags were packed and we were ready to go, but neither arriving nor leaving were we ever offered assistance with our luggage. Su was there- silently- for the key, and I expected a "Did you enjoy your stay?" but she demonstrated no interest in how it went at all. read more
